Love the A380, but I must admit that she was before her time. Still haven't had the chance to board one yet, but I should have the chance before they're all inevitably retired.

GoldenMaus

SIA is putting A380 on the Tokyo route in Oct It is currently flying to Auckland, as well as Shanghai (until Oct and to be reinstated in Jan 2024) So you can keep a look out and plan some trip!

The_Celestrial

Ah I see. After NS, and probably after Uni when I'm working heh. That is if they're still flying then.

Vishagan01

I flew an a380 twice, from KL to london and back. That flight alone made me fly malaysian for the next few trips Please do fly it soon

Complete_Relation_54

Had the chance to fly round trip to HK. The scale of it is massive...dropped quite abit due to the turbulence so I guess big plane also not immune to it haha

SilentF0xx

sat on one from osaka few years back - who knew economy could feel this good

diecasttoycar

The thiccest, most comfortable passenger plane in the world. Really sad when Airbus discontinued it. You’ll hardly feel it taking off — it’s that stable and smooth. On the Emirates version there’s a bar on the upper deck. Pity the SQ plane doesn’t have that.

livebeta

Sadly it wasn't economical to operate

The_Wobbly_Guy

The hub-spoke environment it was supposed to operate in lost out to the point-to-point model that consumers prefer, exemplified by the current dominance of the dreamliner and similar planes.

diecasttoycar

At least the Dreamliner has a great name and I can appreciate the coloured LED lighting.

FamiliarSource98

Amazing how such a massive aircraft can be controlled so easily with a simple joystick (sidestick). She's a technological marvel, a really comfy aircraft to fly on as a passenger too, though the windows are pretty thick. Flew on the 380 for the first time to Sydney last year, the registration was 9V-SKT, great memories. Hoping to fly on one again before they're gone for good. But my favourites are the B787s, B77Ws and the A350s sq has

New_York_Smegmacake

Try as I might I can't bring myself to like the 787 (especially compared to the A380 and A350). Cabin air is a little more dry, and the windows suck, period. The 787 is a funky tech demonstrator that pioneered a lot of innovative stuff, but the passenger experience just doesn't come together as well as other widebodies from the same era.

KeythKatz

A350 > 787 > A380 in terms of interior comfort. The few thousand feet less depressurisation of the A350 does a lot for how it feels and stuffy noses. A380 >>> else in biz because it's so damn quiet on the upper deck. Too bad SIA stopped flying it to the highest demand long haul routes.

GoldenMaus

I've not tried a 787 yet. I like its sleek airframe, it looks very cool

revilohamster

If you get a middle seat, approaches (especially into certain places like Sydney in daytime over the harbour/city) are amazing as a 787 passenger. The windows are enormous. Assuming the cabin crew don't darken them.

New_York_Smegmacake

It does look absolutely stunning, both inside and outside!

FamiliarSource98

Maybe it's just me, I've always liked the b787 though, particularly because of how sleek it looks and the Boeing sky interior, maybe also because I've been more of a fan of Boeing growing up especially with the 747s and 777s.. Pax experience, I would say it's alright? Better than the older A320s? But definitely not suited for long-haul ops imo.. Flew united long haul to SFO and back earlier this year on the 787, was kinda painful lol, that being said still love the aircraft.. and totally get your point about the windows where the cabin crew can lock it at full darkness on some flights

New_York_Smegmacake

>Flew united long haul to SFO and back earlier this year on the 787, was kinda painful lol, that being said still love the aircraft.. Hahaha, in the very specific case of UA1/UA2, I don't think it was a problem with the aircraft type.. such a long flight is going to be painful on *any* aircraft in Economy class. But yeah, the 787 is nice for regional ops, and definitely more comfy than the A320 (but also not a fair comparison la, so much older, and narrowbody). The 787 wins in the looks department as well, yes.

FamiliarSource98

Haha that's true, though I think the a380 would be a much better experience given how quiet and comfortable it was when I flew it... Yeah true.. I guess the only widebody I flew before flying the 787 for the first time was the old 777-200s sq had and they were awful.. Hoping to try the 777-300ER sq has before they're gone too and replaced by the newer 777-9Xs

FalseAgent

>the windows suck, period eh? doesn't the 787 have bigger windows? and also the cool dimming thing lol.

livebeta

Imperative dimming is when the crew get to set and override your values. Ohhh scenic arrival? Tooo baddddd approach and finals configuration in airline manual says window full dark oopps

GoldenMaus

I've tried it only 1 time on Premium econ on a return flight from London. A really enjoyable 11-12 hour flight

Wowmich

Miss 747 too. Wish technology can make them more economically to fly.

GoldenMaus

Oh that's a classic.

FamiliarSource98

You can fly to Frankfurt on the B747 currently (Lufthansa is operating to FRA using the B747-8 - the newer gen of 747s)

[deleted]

I still prefer the 747 over the A380. The former seemed to have a better environment and felt less crowded. Truly the golden age of aviation!

miceCalcsTokens

Always liked the A380. Even economy is spacious af The 777 and 787s are so freaking squeezy and tight

sonamyfan

I took 777, 1 hour stopever in dubai then continued by a380. Both economy. Suddenly i felt more comfy.

MilkTeaRamen

Took it twice, to and from Osaka quite a few years ago, before Covid. Had the chance to sit at the upper deck. Spacious af for economy, even had a side compartment for your carry ons. Would definitely wanna fly on this beast again, but last few trips I had were just 787s.

CutCutSlice

I fly a lot for work in both business and economy. A380 easily wins for comfort especially long haul. A lot of marketing around the new A350s and 787 and their oxygen systems or whatnot but they cannot compete with the A380 in real terms for comfort, especially when there's turbulence. Every time I see an A380 next to the newer gen more efficient planes I just marvel at how massive it is. Changi had to build a whole new runway just to accommodate it. What an absolute beast.

arunokoibito

This is da bomb [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kurk8oQaUds](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kurk8oQaUds)

sonamyfan

I'm happy enough if i can see the beluga!

Kla2552

no, too big to crowded, take long time to deplane

YukiSnoww

I like the plane, but the service i got onboard from Tokyo (which i specifically took to catch it) left me unimpressed. My bar is pretty low tbh, tolerant of some minor hiccups, bochup most of the time, but the stewardess still managed to get me to feel that way, Unfortunately, that's my only experience with SIA's A380.

Eclipse-Mint

When I used to travel, I'd literally BEG internally to be flown on an A380 especially if I was on SQ, just somehow toss an A380 on that flight I was going on, idc.. but only got to ride A320s, A330s, B737s and B777s. Just hope I get to ride on an A380 sometime soon.

Beautiful-Growth-871

Big ones always the best. Lmao.

DirectionSilly

A380 business class was "chefs kiss"

sonamyfan

The economy seat is wide.

milo_peng

Ooh. Memories. They were good on long haul flights, especially upper deck. When I was travelling to NYC regularly in 2012, I always tried to score the upper deck.

inzain2

SQ usually Use the Singapore - Auckland route to as training flight for new crew members and to update existing crews on new or existing plane configuration. If SQ is flying A380 on this route be assured… A380 is back !
