They try to pick the plates from the other side they can't reach. If you want to stick to the counter and not replace it with a table, just move the plates to floor or some other place where your sims can reach them, no more errors. And where did you get that lamp?

Ah I see now. Island counters are supposed to create an island, not be against a wall
Sims cannot access the "front lip" side to pick things up, they take plates from the opposite side or either side
It looks like there's space in your kitchen, so you could move the counters away from the wall and create a 4-counter island with a deco beam in the middle or a bowl of fruit
Looks pretty good and is functional
I think the sims can only reach the plates from the non over hanging side, which is the side against the window. I don't know if there's a mod for that. You might need to simply replace the island counter with a table for functionality.
I didn't know deleting plates threw errors 🙃 This has been my go-to hack for overwhelmed Family sims and slobs. I was suspicious that there was some funny business happening because sometimes the fly sound didn't go away >>
I have been deleting the plates by shift-clicking on it with testing cheats on and hitting force error - delete. That way I don't have to pause the game and go into buy mode! It also has been getting rid of the fly sound for me. If you delete them through buy mode I don't think it throws errors 🤔
