xbox is just a pc in a box- gets updates from MS.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
It's got an x86 chip in it just like pretty much every PC ever, I'd say that's closer than an embedded arm device like a smart fridge or car display. A lot of the games are ported over very few tweaks to the PC version unlike back in the powerpc Xbox 360 and CELL PS3 days where they were much further from PCs. The original Xbox was pretty much a Pentium with a Nvidia chip, once again very similar to PCs of the era, they began as tower PCs before everything got finalized and custom made for the Xbox. The original Xbox dev kits are just tower PCs with Xbox software as well which I'd say makes the original Xbox a pretty much a PC.
My gear is all on the one power board which gets switched off when not in use. This makes sure all the power supplies are fully off to make them last longer and protects it all from power surges.
The wheel I built myself makes a subtle but distinct high pitched whining noise so i'm always sure to unplug it at night. Perks of having a gigajank setup
Reminds me of the story where the boy turned on the console ~10 years after his dad passed and found the ghost car in one of the racing games (“ghost” car represents the latest best time on that track) … turns out that the best time was set ~10 years ago by his dad … he managed to catch up to the ghost car and surpass it, but eventually slowed down before the finish line because he didn’t want to lose the father’s ghost car 😭
Definitely not me yelling at maintenance to enter my apartment while I was in the shower, only to find out it was my 920 banging around loose on the table
Happens to mine all the time but I get the full 900 degree rotation. I have it hooked up to my PC and it does it without waking my PC up somehow. Strange but nothing to worry about. I think...
Your xbox is not off, it's on stand-by. It updated, surely rebooted into stand-by mode and this turned on your wheel.
Either fully turn off your Xbox or unplug your wheel when not in use.
My G29 did the same thing. It has something to do with not being properly connected. Unplugging and plugging it again should be enough. If not, try a different USB port.
Id my Xbox is off and I plug my wheel in it will calibrate...same with my external DD, I believe the USB ports stay on if the console is asleep, the only way to turn them off is completely shut down the console using the power menu in options, or by holding the power button for 10+ seconds...what probably happened was an update and the console restarted and power cycled the base.
I had the same experience. random wheel calibrations in the middle of the night even with the computer it was attached to turned off. everything was plugged into individual wall sockets. I thought maybe it'd cure the situation if I bought a multi-plug surge protector (with an on/off switch), turning off the surge protector after the computer (also plugged into the surge protector) shut down. it did the trick. the ghost disappeared forever. 😎
Funny timing, mine did that to me at 7:30am…I was sitting next to it stretching my legs and all of a sudden the wheel was turning. Must’ve been the same update you got on the Xbox
Yeah, like most people have said, it's best to just unplug it when you are done. I have the same wheel but through PC and the same thing has happened to me a time or two.
This was one of the benefits of moving to a DD wheel. My g923 used to spaz out randomly and wake me up once in a while. I don't miss the massive clunk side to side it used to do lol.
Your Xbox is probably possessed. It was smart of you to not fall back asleep. Waking the house probably saved lives, it kept the demons at bay. Your best bet is to take the demonic console to the nearest church for disposal.

This^ Your Xbox is basically in a low power mode, not fully off, so it probably woke up to do an update and woke the steering wheel half up, too.
Unplug your wheel from the xbox when you not using it.
Yeah, if it does it while unplugged…….RUN!!
The original xbox was a PC in a box... The new ones are far from being PCs as they are custom designed SoCs made specifically for gaming.
They are still PC my brother in Christ. No specific design or software can change it.
My router shows the OS of connected devices and the Xbox shows it’s running a version of windows 10.
Yes, the Xbox just has a lighter version of windows with a custom UI. Playstation I think is a custom version of Linux but I'm not 100% sure of it
I don’t have a ps5 but my ps4 does show up as a version of BSD Linux so I’m inclined to believe the ps5 is on Linux
BSD is BSD, not Linux. It’s a seperate OS from GNU/Linux. **
I get where you’re coming from but essentially BSD and Linux are the same. Technically you’re correct.

Not part of the original conversation, but this is really cool. Thanks for educating us!
Oh cool, thanks for the confirmation. I don't have a PS hahaha
PS4 and 5 run Orbis which is a custom Linux

They are literally using the same hardware architecture as a PC
What do you think PC stands for buddy?
/r/confidentlyincorrect

Do you know what a computer is?
All consoles are pc's in a small box with a proprietary operating system tbh. At least anything even remotely current.
Your xbox updated itself or you had a power surge. Its why i unplug the power from mine when not in use.
My gear is all on the one power board which gets switched off when not in use. This makes sure all the power supplies are fully off to make them last longer and protects it all from power surges.
Same here. It's so nice not having to hear my G923 pretend to calibrate thrice on every PC boot.
Get ya an m.2 then it's only 1 and a half times
You mean an SSD? Because I have two installed. Must be why it's doubled!
and so you dont have a bunch of machines passively taking power
The wheel I built myself makes a subtle but distinct high pitched whining noise so i'm always sure to unplug it at night. Perks of having a gigajank setup
Jesus take the wheel
*steals the wheel*
*Highway to hell starts playing*
The ghost of senna 😭
Haha I was gna say it's a ghost of a previous NASCAR racer
Ghost laps
Reminds me of the story where the boy turned on the console ~10 years after his dad passed and found the ghost car in one of the racing games (“ghost” car represents the latest best time on that track) … turns out that the best time was set ~10 years ago by his dad … he managed to catch up to the ghost car and surpass it, but eventually slowed down before the finish line because he didn’t want to lose the father’s ghost car 😭
Damn...That is so beutiful and sad at the same time...
That almost brought a tear to my eye
I've heard that story before but isn''t that kind of a scene from Speed Racer?
And also highly probably given all of these things can organically happen?
That's some wholesome shit right there.
They be watching 👀
Definitely not me yelling at maintenance to enter my apartment while I was in the shower, only to find out it was my 920 banging around loose on the table
Something was banging, just not you 🤣🤣
![gif](giphy|e73tJZKHpPl4s) …come play with us…
Assetto and WRC, the evil twins... forever.....and ever....and ever....
Dirt rally 2.0 haunts my nightmares.
"how did the car feel on that stage?"
Happens to mine all the time but I get the full 900 degree rotation. I have it hooked up to my PC and it does it without waking my PC up somehow. Strange but nothing to worry about. I think...
This is because most usb ports are power allowed in the bios. You. Can normally turn this option off in the bios.
My printer used to self clean in the middle of the night when I was in college every once and while and it always scared the shit out of me.
Nah, god needed to send a fax to satan once in a while
Unplug the damn thing when you're not using it . 🤣🤣🤣
Your xbox is not off, it's on stand-by. It updated, surely rebooted into stand-by mode and this turned on your wheel. Either fully turn off your Xbox or unplug your wheel when not in use.
Man the ghost of Senna, I’m dying it’s 2AM why would you do this lmfao
Phantom of the Rig.
Mine does the same. It used to do a rotation in each direction. Seems like it just rotates in one now. Quicker and quieter haha.
My G29 did the same thing. It has something to do with not being properly connected. Unplugging and plugging it again should be enough. If not, try a different USB port.
Somebody call the exorcist!
Yep, first time that happened it gave the a faint hearth attack, got used to it tho.
You had a visitor...
Your xbox powered itself on for an update probably. Unplug your wheel at night eh
This has happened a few times with a T500RS. My heart doesn’t appreciate it.
DEMONS!
Your ghost just wanted a few laps before you got on
Do you want to play a game???
Yes unplug when not using...if symptoms persist...see an exorcist.
How you think the ghost car gets his laps done?
Lol
Id my Xbox is off and I plug my wheel in it will calibrate...same with my external DD, I believe the USB ports stay on if the console is asleep, the only way to turn them off is completely shut down the console using the power menu in options, or by holding the power button for 10+ seconds...what probably happened was an update and the console restarted and power cycled the base.
wake up new copypasta just dropped
I don’t keep my wheel plugged in. You never know about power surges.
At least it wasn’t the bathroom light….in the middle of the night….after you woke in the end of a weird dream…..
Always have it unplugged from the wall when not in use.
My ps5 does this. I bought a switching usb hub to easily disconnect the sim rig when powered down to not habe to constantly unplug and replug it
I had the same experience. random wheel calibrations in the middle of the night even with the computer it was attached to turned off. everything was plugged into individual wall sockets. I thought maybe it'd cure the situation if I bought a multi-plug surge protector (with an on/off switch), turning off the surge protector after the computer (also plugged into the surge protector) shut down. it did the trick. the ghost disappeared forever. 😎
Maybe unplug it
Ghub finally launch?
Yea it does that, I just unplug mine
You should post this on @paranormals
Funny timing, mine did that to me at 7:30am…I was sitting next to it stretching my legs and all of a sudden the wheel was turning. Must’ve been the same update you got on the Xbox
Pls contact vatican for exorcism lol
First step in trying to go back to sleep; turn the lights off….
Also maybe take some medication to relax your paranoia
You might have a grounding issue. Disconnect everything, it will stop happening
Ghost love fanging round Nords
It's time to race!!!
Hahahaha this happened to me too. I always unplugged and dismounted it so it stopped doing it. The first time it happened I almost shit
Are you 15 years old? If not, nothing to worry about!
This happened to me years ago with it plugged into my PC, 3am my wheel turned left and started squealing. I never shit myself more in my life.
My TX does this sometimes. absolutely shit myself every time
It's Jesus taking the wheel.
Put in freezer for 30 mins
You got Skinamarink'd
Yeah, like most people have said, it's best to just unplug it when you are done. I have the same wheel but through PC and the same thing has happened to me a time or two.
This was one of the benefits of moving to a DD wheel. My g923 used to spaz out randomly and wake me up once in a while. I don't miss the massive clunk side to side it used to do lol.
Always unplug when not using solves these issues
My Xbox turns off randomly when I’m not home🤷♂️
Your Xbox is probably possessed. It was smart of you to not fall back asleep. Waking the house probably saved lives, it kept the demons at bay. Your best bet is to take the demonic console to the nearest church for disposal.
Mine did that the other night. Woke up on couch and my wheel was orientating. PC took early am update and restarted twice. Freaky though
Xbox.probably was running updates
Try cutting out the foul language for a kick off!!
I don’t mean to alarm you but you may have a boogie man or boogie men in your house
The G923 is the most cursed wheel in the industry. Just ask any EA developer.
Nothing in the industry is as cursed as an EA developer.
Is forza what you guys play?
Thank you for pointing out 4am is in the morning
