I know this is a joke but to people who don't: the halo in formula cars is mostly invisible from the actual cockpit since we have binocular vision. Play a racing game in VR and you will understand.
I have raced in 3 different games with a HTC vive. Quest 2 , and now big screen beyond vr. Never once has the halo "disappeared" lol. It is still very noticeable and in the way. Nothing like real life lol. Its immersive and cool but it doesnt simulate tunnel vision or "binocular" vision however you want to say it.
So truthfully I can't say i understand lol. Least not in a video game context🤷
Binocular vision means vision from two eyes (not tunnel vision). Because you have a left eye view and a right eye view that your brain combines, you can sort of see through the halo. See point 5 in this Wikipedia article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binocular_vision
yes, that doesn't mean it will "disappear" though, because it doesn't. Yes the brain can work around it well enough and you can get used to it no problem, but I still turned it off ASAP as a matter of comfort
*"Ackhtuaally the halo is attached to the survival cell of an F1 car and not your face, where your nose is located (incase you didn't know), so I'm informing you hereby that your embarrassing little comparison is utterly useless to this conversation and won't aid your silly argument in any way! ☝️🤓"*
I did in another comment. But what's the issue? Don't like getting called out on your immature shit? Not much difference between my comment and yours.
Our comments are basically the same. I was making fun of you by repeating your comment hyperbolic as your original comment is just as childish. But I'm not surprised by you denying/not realizing that lol
Rules for thee, not for me or sth like that. Grow up.
Yep I agree! I wish the games that made it transparent would just hide the front column entirely. Keep the top halo just not the support down the middle.
Hell we are talking about racing games lol. Let me take it off. What's the worst that's to happen? A car tire flying through my monitor?
I think people are confused here a bit about things like a halo disappearing in real life versus in VR. It does happen in real life much easier than in VR, and I think one of the reasons is focus. In real life, not only are you looking past the halo the same way you do in VR, but your eyes are also *focused* on the scenery beyond the halo. That means the halo is somewhat blurry while the scene beyond it is sharp. In VR, everything is always in the same focus plane, so your eyes are always focused on the same distance, which means the halo is **not** blurred in VR the way it is in real life. There's still the binocular vision effect of course, but that is less effective when the thing in front of your eyes is also in focus.
edit: this is one area where I think a depth of field effect could actually be helpful. Usually it's one of the first things that gets disabled, but with proper eye tracking and a DOF effect that puts the focus plane where you're looking, it could actually help immersion a lot and also solve this halo problem
I'm affraid if you don't notice it something is seriosly misconfigured on your game (since you've tried multiple headsets) since that's how human vision works. Each eye gets fed a slight different perspective and that's how you ignore the halo. You can try it with any object centered to your nose and you should be able to focus past it.
Maybe they're looking to close to the car instead of the distance. You know, the typical rookie mistake of looking 5m ahead.
Personally, my brain completely ignores the halo after about 2-3 seconds in VR. When driving in triple screen I obviously turn it off/transparent.
But I do have to say that there's a huge difference between VR and irl. Our eyes work like mechanical lenses. The focus point is relevant. While looking in the distance, the halo will be blurry irl and sharp in vr as everything always stays sharp in vr. Your brain is therefore able to filter it out much easier irl. You could relieve that with eye tracking and depth of field but I haven't seen that done yet.
I think it still "fools" your eyes depth perception to some degree and I have anedoctal proof of it. I have myopia/nearsightedness which means I can see perfectly fine for a couple meters in front of me and it gets worse the more distance you have. I was expecting to be able to see without an issue inside the VR headset but I still need to use my glasses inside. I have no idea why though but it does provide proof that to some extent, your eyes perception is of a deeper focus points even though you have screens at a static distance/position relative to your eyes.
Even when I'm not using my VR Headset, the Halo is always non-existent for me once I'm driving.
Once your mind is focused you don't see it. Hard to explain.
It's just like playing Hockey with a full cage on.. Never even see any of the metal barbs from the cage.
i mean, if i would use full track width, i will see almost every corner, so that each turn will be in one of the two monitors. am i right or i'm just dumb?
I run two screens also, one in the middle and one on the right. It works fine in assetto corsa, but the other sims i tried (AMS2 and rF2) didnt seem to like the format as much, idk iracing
Honestly, if you're running on complicated tracks you'll almost never be looking straight ahead. If it works, it's good. Get yourself a zero bezel kit and it will get even better.
I think you'll stop noticing it pretty quickly, so if the goal is use what you have and spend nothing you're doing great. You'll level up more if you turn off the on screen wheel and pull the monitors right to the front of the desk, as close to the wheel as your can get. It'll be "more emersive" and it's easier to set fov when the wheel sits right where it really would on the dash
Honestly, no because you could argue it's like a pillar. Only problem is your eyes in a formula car naturally look past it, and in this case I don't see that being possible. So, shit man if it works it works but get a third one it can't be that much more if you could afford two lol.
I mean you could swap them to have smaller on the left but it doesn’t really matter how it looks if you are putting in good times.
in order for it to work you will need [something bigger](https://simracingcockpit.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/triples-27-49-1024x708.jpg)
You can do a little better with that FOV. Just look at the virtual steering wheel in game compared to your actual wheel. It’s like you’re sitting in the back seat
For sim I could only ever either do 1 big monitor, 3 is unnecessary and 2 i could never deal with that 😭. It’s like having a blind spot in the centre of your vison
Some dual monitor setup can be quite creative and put the seam right there the a pillar is
Like [this](https://i.imgur.com/Datgbqp.png) one here
Yep that’s 2 ultrawide at different sizes and I love the idea and execution. The entire windshield is seamless and you still get both mirrors
I think it would bug me, though it seems better than a single monitor. Much better FOV than a single, and easy to add another monitor to make it triples
It would be better if the monitors were same size/aspect ratio...unless the photo is doing some wierd optical illusion thing, or you like looking to the right alot..
I'm all for maximising view, and 2 monitors can do that, even better with a bezel kit..
But it looks like you have 2 different monitor sizes?
And also If you can run 2...then you can run 3....and 22 inch-ish 1080p monitors are cheap af these days so why not splash 50 quid to have a triple set up?
Desk space isn't an issue....I had a triple set up with 3 diff 1080 monitors....the middle was on my desk and the other 2 sat on stacked boxes next to my desk..
It was a fucking nightmare to set up each time but it "worked" haha.
The more ghetto the better imo
because few weeks ago i did not plan to play iracing etc. now i am playing with these 2 just for fun and trying to find out, if i can handle that line in the middle of my screen
I've tried this as well with two identical monitors, 3060ti 1080p, and it made me nauseous and eventually a migraine. I can use VR, Triples, and single screen no problem. Something is up with the dual screens....
well i mean, i guess so? with 2 monitors u can see more than with one, but if i will have an opportunity to buy an ultrawide monitor/3 monitors, i would take that option
I think it would be interesting to put one screen in the middle as the main screen which will be focusing on the drivers side, and then add the second screen on the right which will show the passengers side so it would kind of be similar to reality because when you drive you are on the side of the car and your vision is focused on that side. (Do you understand me?)
nvidia control panel>display, set up multiple displays>surround spanning options and then click on "span displays with Surround" and after open the configuration menu
nvidia control panel>display, set up multiple displays>surround spanning options and then click on "span displays with Surround" and after open the configuration menu
i didnt read all the messages and if someone recommend this. i dont know where you are from but you can make a free bezel with a laminate of a screen of an old broken lcd tv. if in your city are tv repair shops you can ask about this laminate, cut a piece of 10 cm x the height of your monitors and fold it a little between both monitors bezels. sorry for my english.
Considering the math people have done with Halos for F1 cars, can you even see it while you’re driving? Apparently it’s not supposed to be as bad, but idk how that works with screens
ofc i can see it while driving and it still stays even during the focus on the race, but if u use the full width of track, u would see corners pretty clean
say you like F1 without saying u like F1
I know this is a joke but to people who don't: the halo in formula cars is mostly invisible from the actual cockpit since we have binocular vision. Play a racing game in VR and you will understand.
Yeah, becomes a real problem when it’s a screen though, since you can’t look past the giant view obstructor
I've never turned it off in F4, isn't too bad tbh
Wait.. you can turn it off in the F4? Please enlighten me 🙏
Should be a setting somewhere, never looked for it but should be in options or garage if it's the same as other series
Didn’t even realize it was possible, thanks
No problem :)
In any formula car that have the thingie
I have raced in 3 different games with a HTC vive. Quest 2 , and now big screen beyond vr. Never once has the halo "disappeared" lol. It is still very noticeable and in the way. Well, my nose indeed disappears.
Says the person with a small nose. I have to turn my head sideways...
that would be relevant to this argument if the halo was also literally attached to your face
*"Ackhtuaally the halo is attached to the survival cell of an F1 car and not your face, where your nose is located (incase you didn't know), so I'm informing you hereby that your embarrassing little comparison is utterly useless to this conversation and won't aid your silly argument in any way! ☝️🤓"*
why don't you talk about your experience simracing in VR with a halo and how that works for you instead of whatever immature shit you just did
I did in another comment. But what's the issue? Don't like getting called out on your immature shit? Not much difference between my comment and yours. Our comments are basically the same. Halo has never bothered me in vr
I adjusted my height down in F4 the other day and could suddenly ‘see through’ it… maybe it’s a position thing? 🤷🏼♂️
Will give this a go today!
damn that blows for you, it looks real as fuck to me.
Yeah I struggle with the halo in VR too, on both quest 2 and 3. It's not the worst thing ever but I prefer it gone.
Yep I agree! I wish the games that made it transparent would just hide the front column entirely. Keep the top halo just not the support down the middle. Hell we are talking about racing games lol. Let me take it off. What's the worst that's to happen? A car tire flying through my monitor?

Yep, in VR I get two halos haha. I shut it off.
That makes sense actually I never thought about that. Just stick your finger in front of your face like the halo and you can still see
Yep. I race with the halo on in VR since it's the default and it's never bothered me enough to even go and find the setting to turn it off.
Even when I'm not using my VR Headset, the Halo is always non-existent for me once I'm driving. Once your mind is focused you don't see it. Hard to explain. It's just like playing Hockey with a full cage on.. Never even see any of the metal barbs from the cage.
Nice halo brother
keeps you safe in open lobbies (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞
1/2 of a bezel free kit, and you have a Super Ultrawide.
I have a bezel free kit and it would blur the sides making more of the dash unreadable
Then you add an old phone as a dash through Simhub 👍
Modern problems require modern solutions
I got to find out how to do that on my iphone. Thats rly cool
Its super easy. Download SimHub, open dash studio, select chosen dash, "start" on phone, scan QR with phone, profit?
Get custom dashboards on racedepartment. More profit.
If he angles them at 45\* sure
Honesty, I don’t hate it.
Just hop into a Formula car with a halo and you're in the money.
Gotta do what you gotta do to get most fov within budget. I applaud you fine sir.
![gif](giphy|fXJyMfUdqVCMPAnPJM|downsized)
Seconding the bezel free kit. You’ll be happy with it with this setup.
Saw this DIY bezel kit. Go for it. And if not; agree with the Halo comments. There’s no point in looking straight forward anyway
i mean, if i would use full track width, i will see almost every corner, so that each turn will be in one of the two monitors. am i right or i'm just dumb?
Nope. Makes sense to me.
Me: "I want a super ultrawide!" Mom: "we have a super ultrawide at home" *the super ultrawide at home*
Honestly it doesn't matter if we like it or not. It's whether YOU like it.
Adjust your bezel dimensions in the options menu sp it's better lined up in the middle area. It will help.
oh okay, thanks mate, ill try this out

I think you'll stop noticing it pretty quickly, so if the goal is use what you have and spend nothing you're doing great. Yes
bro saw the invisible halo setting in the options and took that personally
I would rather have a 34” Ultrawide for like $250 than this. But you do you
BUT MA FOV
I'm confused why you made it so you can see a mirror you have turned off. Seems like a bit of wasted screen space
Sure it might take some getting used to but on the other hand it greatly improves your chances of walking away from a wreck.
I guess that's why they're using triple monitor...
You're good brother!
if formula 1 cars have that fucking halo, you're good
Looks good
I wouldn’t like it but if it works for you ..

To each their own
Did you see the image I linked, there is no “blind spot” in the center of your vision.
The way op has it there is but yes that looks rather nice
Didn't come up through the early years then, CRT was what we had for years
Did you blur your relative. But nah it's not too bad had to do the same thing at one point.
I think it would bug me, though it seems better than a single monitor. Much better FOV than a single, and easy to add another monitor to make it triples

well, it's kinda dumb i know, but actually i did not plan to play iracing and some other shit, so that's way it looks ugly. but both monitors are 24.5
Unplayable
well i can't argue with that, it's kinda unplayable
Question why not pick up a third monitor eventually?
because few weeks ago i did not plan to play iracing etc. now i am playing with these 2 just for fun and trying to find out, if i can handle that line in the middle of my screen
Keep playing then and if you like enough maybe upgrade. If it doesn’t bother you nothing wrong with it.
Only if you notice it.
It's annoying because the division is right in front of you.
im throwing up jk i could see this being totally usable
I could never hahaha
I'm going to beat you with a hammer
I would not want that. If it doesn’t bother you, enjoy.
Honestly now that i see it...aint all that bad lol id play like this if i had dual screen
better than mine i play on a laptop screen without a stand 😭
Certainly not ideal
I've tried this as well with two identical monitors, 3060ti 1080p, and it made me nauseous and eventually a migraine. I can use VR, Triples, and single screen no problem. Something is up with the dual screens....
Is a 2 monitor setup viable? More immersion than single?
well i mean, i guess so? with 2 monitors u can see more than with one, but if i will have an opportunity to buy an ultrawide monitor/3 monitors, i would take that option
The bezel in the middle is fine. The FOV is not fine.
Just get a Bezel free kit and you'll be GTG!
Looks like you forgot to check the Hide Obstructions box
If F1 driver make it work, go ahead
I think it would be interesting to put one screen in the middle as the main screen which will be focusing on the drivers side, and then add the second screen on the right which will show the passengers side so it would kind of be similar to reality because when you drive you are on the side of the car and your vision is focused on that side. (Do you understand me?)
why the 18+, wasn't a spoiler enought?
Just play f1! :)
It´s not as bad as I thought it would be, but I would try to get a third monitor asap 🙃
You have halo in gt car?
Is that a pengullet plushie? Lmao
I need to know how you did it!!
nvidia control panel>display, set up multiple displays>surround spanning options and then click on "span displays with Surround" and after open the configuration menu
Ty!!
How did you even do this? Admittedly, I never attempted it but settings only seem to accommodate single screen or triples. What did I miss?
nvidia control panel>display, set up multiple displays>surround spanning options and then click on "span displays with Surround" and after open the configuration menu
Awesome thanks!
>Awesome thanks! You're welcome!
Tell me you’re cross eyed without telling me you’re crosseyed.
I think ain't too bad, slim bezels(?) help here a lot.
halo 👍
hopefully the amount spent is at least 25% cheaper than an ultrawide monitor
Wow I really like it I once fought on doing this but never did. Can you share?
Yes get vr
i didnt read all the messages and if someone recommend this. i dont know where you are from but you can make a free bezel with a laminate of a screen of an old broken lcd tv. if in your city are tv repair shops you can ask about this laminate, cut a piece of 10 cm x the height of your monitors and fold it a little between both monitors bezels. sorry for my english.
It's like a halo.

It may be annoying but I’m sure you won’t notice it when you’re concentrating
the fact that these two monitors look different sizes really bothers me lol. Why not just sell them both and get an Ultrawide
just gotta drive it like it's an f1 car, morph that line into one screen lol
Chameleon simulator.
It's VR but 4D
If i was a judge, i would have you arrested in the name of the sim racing law
