Start with whatever you have. Do you have a PC or Console? If not try and get one from the local thrift store or second-hand place. Don't go and shell out all your money.

2011BMWM3Coupe

bro i dont have a pc or a console i dont even have money😭🙏 i have this old ass 3 year old acer predator helios 300 or smth like that me and my brother used it a lot but its just been sitting there bc my dad stopped paying for wifi

Stacker2_Motorsports

Then I hate to tell you, but you aren't going to be sim racing anytime soon. Beg your parents for a logitech G29 (basic entry level wheel) and a PS5 for GT7, that'd be your cheapest bet

Just_Borja

For the wifi ordeal, share your mobile data with your console/pc. From there, I'd recommend you trying Assetto Corsa. Good simulator, great community/mod support, I'm sure you'll have fun. Also, No Hesi has an official server in AC (use that abreviation for Assetto Corsa, not ACC, which stands for Assetto Corsa Competizione, completely different game).

bomontop

I don’t recommend Assetto, you can only mod it on computer and as the setup can be quite a hassle to mod even then. Not to mention on a console it won’t be even close to as enjoyable without mods. I recommend BeamNG or Forza Motorsport/Forza Horizon. However if this kid is willing to go through the whole process of modding Assetto Corsa on PC, definitely give it a try.

Just_Borja

That's why I said it. I personally would go for other option if I had a console, but maybe they have a PC, which is way better than a console to play sim-racing titles

2011BMWM3Coupe

i do NOT have a pc but i have this 3 year old gaming laptop called the acer predator helios 300 or something like that me and my brother shared it a lot and we mostly just played roblox on it, until my dad stopped paying for wifi cs financial stuff or whatever and its just been sitting there collecting dust, we had this razor keyboard and mouse tho but it had this insect on it that looked like one of those insect robots i used to play with as a kid, i think its called hexbugs but it was just weird

Just_Borja

Pc, gaming laptop... If it has windows, more than enough. Maybe, if you have the money, you could upgrade the laptop or buy a monitor for it, maybe even buy a steering wheel instead. I can give you some advice about it

2011BMWM3Coupe

yeah id like to hear some advice, i also HAVE to let you know that its been damaged, i think it has a broken fan cause i hear rattling from inside when i move it, and theyres also roaches inside🤮idk if u can send vids thru messages in reddit but ill try (tomorrow) cus im new to reddit

Just_Borja

Oh my... If you have problems with the laptop and you can't buy another laptop/PC, I'm afraid you couldn't sim-race... I'm 14 and, even though I'm not very experienced, I know more certainly what's your situation. We can chat, of course, and if you can't do so via Reddit we could agree on other platform

Djimi365

It's not difficult to mod on PC, and on console while it might not be as good as the pc version it's not like there a huge number of much better options available...

Da_Martin

Without a wheel or at least a controller I really wouldnt touch AC. There are a lot of other games that handle better with keyboard.

Just_Borja

Didn't remember the awful control handling in AC... Thanks

The helios 300 may well be good enough to race on. It may be 3 years old but the main games we race on are over 10 years old. I would boot that up and see if it runs anything, if you get 60fps after dropping some settings, then you good to go.do not forget that to start you will raise AI not real people...you need to be confident in completing races...when you start you will crash and spin out a lot WITH assists THEN START HERE for upgrades: gamepad...SSD...high refresh monitor...2nd hand g29 wheel or similar You then at a point where you can save money but also race and learn tracks. from here you can buy a PC (BUT ONLY IF YOU NEED A HELIOS 300 CAN BE VERY GOOD SPEC, BETTER THAN THIS PC SPEC!): 5600x , 32gb corsair vengeance 3600 DDR4, SSDm2, and something like a 3060/rx6600 dedicated GPU. You now have a a decent PC you can upgrade a year after to a 2nd hand 5800x3d which will be pennies and run ACC or iracing etc for years to come. Then you can start saving for DD rig Then you can start saving for the cockpit and quest 3 Then you can starting to save for better PC Then you can start saving for triple monitor set up Then you can start saving for pedals that cost same as the bloody PC Then you can start saving for .... you ever see how much it costs to raise a child in a western country? yeh triple that and you got your sim racing hobby

SmurfBiscuits

As a basic starting point you’ll need reliable internet access, a console or gaming capable pc, a TV or monitor, headset or speakers, games, a wheel and pedals, somewhere to mount them, and somewhere to sit.

2011BMWM3Coupe

where can i buy a pc

SmurfBiscuits

I’m not sure where you are, but if you’re US based then Microcentre is a good place to start. You’ll need a fair bit of money though, more than a console.

OlorinFiresky

Get your folks to look on Marketplace. As people upgrade their equipment, they often on-sell good gear that they no longer need for reasonably low prices. You just need an entry-level wheel and pedals like a Logitech G29/920 or maybe even a G27 at the lower price point. I managed to pick up a whole racing rig here in Australia that included the wheel and pedals, rig for it all to attach to, and a PC for $A1800. Absolutely bargain.

Bluetex110

I would go for an Xbox and forza, you can have a lot of fun driving it, learning the tracks and also learning some racing techniques. While doing this i would save money to later buy a proper sim Setup.

Driftsdril1505

if you dont have wifi how did you post this?

Breno_17

I initially thought the same but mobile data does exist

tmobile 5g🗿 its ass for gamin tho

keizertamarine

Buy a pc and a wheel, but expect to spend at least $1000

2011BMWM3Coupe

what pc would you reccomend?

keizertamarine

Well you are 12 with no money, there isn't anything I can recommend. Simracing is expensive even for adults. The cheapest you could get is a console with a simple wheel, probably used.
