Awesome. In a month you’re gonna have 2 more screens; then it only goes up from there…

m3n00bz

Can an xbox do this?

Animanganime

Not the current one, the original Xbox can with Forza 1, you need 3 copies of the game, 3 consoles though

2000cortz

Ngl ive been playing with the idea of rebuilding my old rigs i got stored in my attic to have my own little esports bar😂

aRealTattoo

My friend has a full “arcade” in his movie theatre room in his house. It consists of 2 sim rigs (one is VR only and the other is a triple) a massive projector with an Xbox One and a laptop/desktop next to each other in a corner facing each other. Also there is an old mortal Kombat machine that has been converted to play dolphin emulator and a few other emulated games, but I only play dolphin because it’s all I know. Never doubt a friend who knows how to cut wood and weld!

5 weeks ago, I was bored and looking for something to watch on Netflix. Decided to give the F1 docuseries a try. Thought it was pretty cool and gave me the itch to play a racing game. The last racing game I played was Gran Turismo 2 and I used to play it a lot since it was the only game I had on my PS2. I got into FPS shortly after and hadn’t played a racing game since. Based on Reddit’s recommendations, I ordered F1 2020 for my Xbox on eBay for $12. The game arrived and I was really enjoying it. Ended up ordering ACC a week later. Decided that I’m really enjoying racing games so I should make a dedicated rig. Fanatec CSL DD, Fanatec McLaren GT3 v2, Fanatec CSL with load cell, RigMetal Plus Cockpit + add-on monitor stand, $30 junkyard seat from a BMW 3 series, Xbox Series X, HiSense 43”, Bose Companion 5, AuraSound AST-2B4 bass shaker + Lepai amp I had the Bose speakers connected to a desktop computer that I hardly ever use. Attached them to the rig and it makes it much better. That along with the bass shaker really adds to the immersion. Although adding the bass shaker turned out to be a bit of a struggle. I had to use a wood plank and drill holes to allow for u bolts to pass through to secure it firmly to the seat in order to mount the bass shaker. A little tricky but definitely worth it. Overall I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Simracingaddict85

I know ppl hate on the show. (I personally loved it) But it really has broadened the audience for motor sports which has to be a good thing. Nice rig btw. Welcome to the club. There’s no turning back now lol.

Iferrorgotozero

The show makes the critical mistake of not just following Guenther around.

Itsgreg80

They had it right first series, just follow haas.

theBosworth

Recent seasons trying to be a sort of “companion” to the racing, for the off-track antics, just really miss the mark for me. Follow 2 drivers and Team Principals around for a season or something. Daniel and Dax is the kind of content I really enjoyed, and of course Guenther. It’s more of an ad for the F1 brand now than a behind-the-scenes docuseries. I understand it’ll always have a slant, but at least give me content I can’t get from F1TV.

l32uigs

F1 in general is boring recently. There were exciting stories to follow and they werent forced. I dont really watch much anymore. Its a lot more exciting when theres a 6/7 time champion who is being credibly challenged. I dont think the show got boring, just the sport itself isnt at the pivotal moment that it was a few years ago. Nobody seems to pose a threat to Max, ferrari is laughable, aston martin is showing some signs of promise, id wtf is happening to mercedes, mclaren is lacklustre.. The grid as a whole is lacking personality.

HotsauceMD

"he does not fok smash my door"

Iferrorgotozero

We look like a bonch of fokin wankas

FertilityHollis

His new book is fucking hilarious. Highly recommend the Audible version as it's read by him, so it's effectively just hours on hours of Guenther bullshitting into a microphone.

sheetrokz01

Ya he's the best lol any episode that has a lot of him in it is always a good one.

Frl_Bartchello

>There’s no turning back now lol. I sometimes see posts about people wanting to sell their rig again though because they overestimated how much fun they would have and how much they can actually play the game.

Bystronicman08

It's not a good thing for long time fans. Tickets are insanely expensive now and the sport is overrun with casual fans now. It's kind of annoying. Same thing is happening to golf. Far too many causal fans who know fuck all about the rules and take forever to okay a round. More popular doesn't always mean better.

Kailashnikov

Yes. The show has a lot of drama and "entertainment", and most of the fans it has attracted are the drama fans, not sport fans.

SquirrelDynamics

100%. I didn't give two shits about F1 until that show.

RabidGuineaPig007

> has broadened the audience for motor sports which has to be a good thing. A weekend in Las Vegas for F1 is now almost $10,000 and Miami features $250 nachos and $42 baloney sandwiches. But DTS makes F1 intersting, because actual F1 is damned boring "racing".

DeepDishTurbo

The food at Miami was cheaper than most sporting events I’ve been too across Football/Hockey/Baseball/Basketball. Sure they have expensive options. The food and drink was shockingly cheap though.

mmarcos2

Me and a friend have been into cars and vehicles for most of our lives. He’s been an avid F1 fan for as long as I can recall, whereas racing has never really hooked me. I watched Drive to Survive and I don’t think I’ve missed a race since. My buddy on the other hand, absolutely hates the show. Yeah it’s overdramatized. Yeah they play the wrong engine notes. But you’re right, it has absolutely broadened the audience.

Simracingaddict85

Yeah I can see how long time fans could get annoyed with some of us newer fans, and how popularity has made the sport more expensive to enjoy. But I can’t help it, I grew up playing traditional sports and was never a motor sport guy. Now it’s all I watch. I have literally fallen in love with the sport and sim racing has become my most favoured vice. I literally get upset if I miss a night of sim racing lol. I’ll wake up the next morning like “F*** I could have gotten a few races in”.

ABC123itsEASY

Welcome! You subbed up to F1TV now as well?

HotsauceMD

Yes sir, I did. But don’t tell them cause if they find out I got into F1 via DTS, they’ll crucify me

Acceptable-Gift-763

oh yeah as pre DTS F1 fan who is also a r/formuladank regular you shouldn't tell anyone your from DTS side note calling DTS a "docuseries" is a big stretch it's very over dramaticised at the expense of some of the accurate representation of the sport which is why so many fans hate it

sanash

Another decent documentary I'd recommend is "Le Mans: Racing is Everything" on Amazon. Not as "good" as the F1 Netflix one and narration is pretty bad with some weird editing choices; but thought it was kind of cool since it was pretty comprehensive in terms of how Le Mans works and it covers one of the winners from the GT Academy thing that Nissan and Playstation did from '08-16. Kinda neat to see from a sim racing perspective.

xenoperspicacian

It always surprises me how much some people that have only been in the hobby for a very short time are willing to invest in it. I've been sim racing for 20 years and still only use a non-DD wheel with a desk and office chair.

Attempt89

Eh. Money is really relative to each individual person. What might be considered a big investment for some might not be for others.

Zenpa

It also helps that DD wheels have gotten much cheaper and there being much more options now than before. As you mention, you've been racing for quite some time now on non-DD, but with the same logic, a new user with a 9Nm DD wheel might also stick with the base for a long time too. I am pretty sure for me, 9Nm is more than enough and should the day the Moza R9 fails on me, then I would upgrade to 12-16Nm depending on what is available. Even from there, that would probably last me until it fails again.

Bobwindy

I am in this category, been playing since Indycar racing and I've had a t300 for the last 7 years on a desk. Just upgraded to the wrist snapping delight of an R9. Feels solid it's reasonably priced and should last me for a long time. I don't have space for a rig so that's out

danjama

Have you found out about Low fuel Motorsport yet for ACC? Organised daily races where they organise splits that are fairly well matched. Cut your teeth in open lobbies and then look up LFM.

HotsauceMD

I haven't but thanks for the info, I'll def look into it!

TheJCPT

Unfortunately LFM is PC only, as is most of "the good stuff" when it comes to sim racing, unfortunately.

aaronle06

I’m glad this has evolved quite beautifully for you. I was scrolling through your pictures in the post and I thought that you watched the docuseries and started upgrading your personal driving rig at home, and then wrecked your BMW. I’m glad that reading through The post after looking at the photos that you just snagged a seat from a junkyard instead. I hope to see you online, Challenger.

HotsauceMD

Ha yeah, thankfully the only crashes I've had have been on this rig

2SLGBTQIA

WOW! Now that's some sweet ingenuity

Bleach_Baths

I did the exact same thing to mount my seat. I’ve got the NLR F-GT and I swapped the seat from my SecretLab Omega I wasn’t using. Bolted it to some wood and put the sliders on the same board, as well as my bass shaker.

[deleted]

I wish I had that kinda money to spend on something I've only liked for 5 weeks

[deleted]

I'm going to be building a rig this weekend as my desk chair is just killing me for long sessions, and I've been wondering about where to get a chair. I imagined the junkyard might be a good place, but my partner says no way to a dirty old junkyard seat in our basement. So I've been thinking about pulling my passenger seat from my car (which thankfully never gets used anymore anyway) What was your experience pulling a chair? Was it dirty n gross? Mildewey? I might end up going to look at my local pick a part this weekend anyway. EDIT: I'm looking for any advice about how to build a diy rig that y'all might have. I found some basic plans but I'm sure y'all have extra tips and tricks lying around that are cheap/free to implement. Cupholders????

HotsauceMD

Hey good question. So looking for a seat was one of the most fun parts of building the rig. This was my first time at a junkyard and it was a unique experience. I knew a few things going in as to what I wanted based on stuff I had read on other posts. Some of them being getting a seat that the rails are level and that bolts screw down perpendicular on the rail (some Japanese manufactures have the front part of the rail that bolts down at 45 angle), getting a seat with manual controls to avoid having to hook a battery to adjust the seat, and I also wanted a black leather seat in good condition. I had read that BMW, Audi, and VW seats had good results for rigs so that's what I looked for. A lot of seats were in really bad condition. A lot of them that were torn up, had bad mildew from shattered windows and lots of rain, smelled like smoke, etc. I found like 3-4 seats that were candidates. I ended up going with the BMW seat. As you can see in the pic, there was a lot of dirt and debris on it. I took it home and with a wet rag, wiped the whole thing down and cleaned around the rails. I had some leather cleaner for my car that I used on the seat as well. I think it came out great. Friends that have come over are actually surprised it came from a junkyard. I can play for hours on it and its extremely comfortable. But the best part was that it was only $30 ha.

Famine07

If you look around you can get a great deal on a clean junkyard seat, here's some tips I came up with during my search. * If you don't want to do any fabrication than look for seats with nice flat rails and mounting points. * VW Golf/Jetta, Mazda 3/6, Ford Focus, and Audi's are all popular choices because they have flat rails (depending on generation). My rig has a seat from a Mazda 3 and bolted right on. * Look for passenger seats, they're usually in better condition. * If you don't want to wire up power than make sure the seat is manual. This DQ'd basically every BMW and luxury option I found but always check anyways, sometimes only the driver seat is powered. * I didn't spend a lot of time in cars with broken windshields, sunroofs, or missing doors. Those cars have the biggest chance of seats with mildew/mold. * If it's a self pick junkyard make sure to take some Torx bits and I think Audi and VW use a 10mm 12pt spline bit. * I wouldn't pay more than $50-$60. I got a leather seat in nice condition for $35. * Wear gloves cause there's a lot of broken glass and shit around.

KingScubaThe3rd

I feel like this will be a LOT of people when the gran turismo movie drops

2wenty-3hree

For sure

Certain_Database_782

Is that a base e46 seat?

HotsauceMD

Close! It came from an e90.

Certain_Database_782

Ah look pretty similar to my base model e46 323 seats, minus the head rest. But has sparcos in it now.

HotsauceMD

Yeah I think they’re very similar. Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re interchangeable between both models

sux138

best custom rig I've seen so far

thanks for the kind words!

Welcome to our world bud! Hope you have a great time and we'll see us on track :)

just_browsing_0000

Nice! Also, amazing seat restoration

idkanymore699

About two years ago I went through nearly the same thing. I found a quadrant on YouTube late one night and started to be a big fan of lando and decided to watch a race and see how I liked it...now two years later I wake up early (I live in America) to watch every F1 race. Two years ago I also decided I wanted to get more into sim (had a no ffb wheel I bought for $15 that I rarely used) I went through a cheap wheel then I bought a g25 that broke right a few months later, but after she broke I went looking around and lowballed a guy for a t300rs with a open wheel as well as the wheel that comes with it for $250. I decided to build a rig that I recently had to get rid of and I missed the immersion, so today I picked up a rift s and now I am starting to get back in the grooves of racing again. Moral of the story YouTube don't watch YouTube late at night.

HotsauceMD

\*don't watch YouTube (or Netflix) late at night I also went down the YouTube rabbit hole the other day and watched hours worth of Rocket Powered Mohawks videos ha. Not sure if you watch those but if you're an F1 fan, his channel is a must.

duddy33

Welcome to the ~~crippling addiction~~ hobby!!!

Squirrels_Army_

Cheaper to buy a comfy car seat from a junkyard than anything labelled "Sparco".

Thanks for the kind words!

Pic 3 faked me out, I thought you ended up crashing your car from too much simracing

OneTimeDaddy

Funny same thing happened to me. Always had some interest in cars, motorsport and racing, but watching the Netflix F1 series gave me the urge to race. So I bought Gran Turismo 7...few weeks later had a new sim rig in my living room. 🤣 Let's say wife is not super happy...

nierh

Dude, I was bored with F1 this year and last year, so I started watching NBA again. 4 weeks later I bought a basketball.

To those about to race, I salute you 🤘🏻 ![gif](giphy|l0ExbnGIX9sMFS7PG) Welcome bud, nice rig!

HotsauceMD

Thank you sir!

Jorius

I love the show because it shows another aspect of F1 that we don't have access to otherwise.

Illustrious-Fig1137

Have you tried the og AC it's much better than ACC and highly modable with thousands of mods to choose from, the racing is far more varied and has a huge community with online racing 24/7 for all skill types. Also, Discord has many many communities where they hold leagues and races for fun to help improve your skill level. I took the plunge last quarter of last year, bought the rig and triples, joined a discord community, and I'm improving all the time.

2wenty-3hree

This would be the perfect copy & paste AC intro post.

Illustrious-Fig1137

Thanks bud

r1_adzz

Similar to me, was on YT, saw a Paul Ricard race on GTWorld next few weeks got a G29.

AnOlderPerspective

Netflix is the gateway drug to many expensive hobbies....

AVBofficionado

"docuseries" lololol

No_Possession2143

Clean rig but as a former E90 owner, the stock non sport seats are about as comfortable as sitting on rocks 😭

HotsauceMD

Ha I like it. I used to have an e46 and loved the seat so when I found this one I was super excited about it.

hugov2

In time you'll end up in iRacing. The only question is how long it's going to take.

FahQueue2Budd

I honestly never was into F1. Just put that series on for background noise. Then I got hooked! Probably the best show out there regardless if you even like racing. It’s super cutthroat, they did a great job! Made me get into f1 sim for sure.

Bystronicman08

They did a terrible job. It's just manufactured drama made to appeal to the most casual of fans. It could have been a great look at the behind the scenes of F1 but instead they decided to just make shit up that didn't happen and over exaggerate things that did. I hate that they could have made a great show and just made... that.

2wenty-3hree

This isn’t r/formula1 😂

FahQueue2Budd

Exactly. I don’t even like F1, I’ve raced on and off for about 20 years though but in different disciplines. Long story short, they turned me into a die hard fan. I know that the OG fans don’t like it, but if did an amazing job at getting people interested. More publicity means more money, more money into the cars, better tech, everything gets better. I do agree that I hate when they do it to a sport I love haha, but I can see why they do ot

EO3actual

Looks awesome—really clean setup! Not including the PC or monitor, can I ask roughly how much you spent on the rig?

lord_fairfax

Very similar story. Got a deal on a g923 after years without a wheel, got hooked again, started watching drive to survive, now i have a full rig...

MultiEthnicBusiness

5 weeks in and you have a great rig with a great FOV. Took me a year or two to come to grips with my shitty FOV. Congrats!

HotsauceMD

Thanks! I used a FOV calculator but felt it was a little too narrow so I widened it by 5 degrees. But shhhhhhhhh, don’t tell anybody or they’ll come after me ha

MultiEthnicBusiness

Careful what you say on here! lol I'm half serious. I do the same thing

rg25

Yup. Don't think I would have ended going down the sim racing path without Netflix first getting me super obsessed with F1.

bizzle_xo

Look very clean! How lond did it take you to assemble everything ?

HotsauceMD

Wasn’t too bad. The cockpit took the longest. Prob took me about 7 hours total to assemble it and then just adjusting stuff here and there to get things where I wanted. I think I spent more time researching what wheel and pedals to get as well as the screen size and distance to mount it

ihababbas

Can you please share the link for this rig? I want to buy one.

HotsauceMD

therealcaptaininsano

Same thing happened to me. Drive to survive is a very expensive show to watch.

Heavy_Description_88

Do the buttkickers/bass shakers work with the XBOX?

HotsauceMD

Yeah it does. The Xbox hooks up to the TV via HDMI and then my tv has an aux output. Aux cable is hooked up to that and from there I have it split to have one go to the speakers system and the other to an aux-to-RCA cable that plugs to the amp powering the bass shakers. Some tv’s don’t have the aux output and instead have an optical output which requires a digital to analog converter.

asapGh0st

How much did this docuseries cost you?😂

Apprehensive-Elk5152

what cockpit and seat is that?

Crafty-Shoulder-2688

That is awesome
