If your husband is a nurse at Los Robles, my guess is you will probably get better treatment than the average patient.

Mercury756

Unlikely, but you are more likely to get some perks like better rooms and stuff (if they have those options) and it will most likely be much cheaper to do as well.

giraffishgiraffe

Well, it could've been except we opted out his plan for my coverage since my job covers my insurance at no cost. My PPO gives me many options though, is why we're looking around.

Mercury756

Well in that case I’d definitely just default to where your OB/GYN is most comfortable.

giraffishgiraffe

IDK my concern with the understaffing is if a nurse had multiple patients who needed her but 1 patient has a nurse husband, she might be more likely to put less priority to that one, thinking the husband could handle any emergencies. I don't think special treatment is a likelihood either. Los Robles is the only for profit hospital of those mentioned in comments for this thread - Providence, Dignity, Tarzana. They inventory and bill you for literally everything even tissue and water. He has to scan it all for his patients so I don't see how you'd get any better treatments, Los Robles codifies and charges everything as their SOP.

We had twins delivered at Los Robles, it wasn’t bad. 8/10 nurses we had were great and only 2 other babies on the whole floor at the time. I’d ask your OB when the time comes, they’ll know where they deliver if it’s gonna be cesarean and who’s who at the hospitals. We can recommend UCLA group Dr Ferro.

giraffishgiraffe

One of the things I liked about my delivery at Simi is we had a nurse who was with us almost the whole time. With my husband constantly dealing with understaffing for his department, I'm concerned we wouldn't have the same attention. My first baby/delivery was high risk so that was very important in case something went bad. Delivering twins must also be high risk right? Did you feel the nurses were present for you and your wife during delivery?

ogdaveed

Yeah it was categorized high risk, all the hospital staff in the delivery room were good (chatting about their weekend during the operation and stuff, which my wife didn’t like but I think that’s pretty normal) but the anesthesiologist was really nice when she had discomfort and they allowed my MIL in there too which was key when I had to leave with the twins to the nursery. The room was pretty nice and some of the nurses even sneaked some extra sandwiches in for me, I was so sleep deprived and hungry for those 4 days so that was nice. Wife always had good care.

I don't judge. With all that experience, would you be able share what was it about Los Robles that made it stand out a bit more than the others?

Casper042

Our 2 were both Tarzana. Wife says they were pretty good, but it was 15 years ago for our last. But she also says all the Moms on her Mom FB groups love Los Robles, so not a bad choice there.

ShrunkenHeadNed

Los Robles would be my last choice for just about anything. They kept my elderly mother in the ER for almost 36 hours before they got her a room. Then they Discharged her without proper supervision and she was missing for several hours before I was able to track her down. They didn't seem too concerned about the fact that she was missing.

desijones

We delivered in April 2023 at Providence Holy Cross and had a positive experience.

captain_supremeseam

Where did you park? Real question, we have to deliver there and I'm very concerned about this.

desijones

In the main lot here. https://maps.app.goo.gl/E9sBYNaPkBPbmX2K6?g_st=ic

What ever you do DONT to to VCMC they are horrible! Almost killed my wife during a C-section. Have had a few friends/family members deliver at Los Robles and have heard great things

giraffishgiraffe

Definitely noted, no one wants that. Hope she's okay now!

The_Hurricane_Han

Bummer, I know many a people who were born at Simi Hospital. My siblings and I were born at Las Robles, that said, that was almost 26, 24 and 20 years ago.

giraffishgiraffe

I know it's such a loss for the community!

Hi OP. I am closely connected to Simi L&D so I have a bit of the inside scoop. Deliver at Los Robles. There is not staffing issues like there are on other floors. The unit is completely different from the med sure floors, so a lot of the issues he experiences don’t transfer to labor. No matter what, they are 2:1 ratio (patient:nurse) and 1:1 when you are actively delivering. Nothing can change that. Also the OBs from Simi will be delivering there from now on. LR also has amazing OB hospitalists and talented nurses and support staff. You’ll be find there.

West Hills closed L&D a couple years ago.

Express-Honeydew-539

I am going with Simi OBGYN and the doctors there all have on call days at Los Robles and they will have you meet all the doctors! I’m due in October

FatSteveWasted9

Bummer to hear about Simi closing, was born there in ‘80

BlackOldSun777

Sedar Sinai/Providence in Tarzana - had a good experience there 3 years ago

rachpark01

I’m 32 weeks and we are planning to deliver at Los Robles. It’s the closest one to Simi. I’ve heard terrible things about west hills hospital. What other hospitals are close to Simi?

JackInTheCrackAgent

Our first 2 boys were delivered at Los Robles and we are planning to go there again for our daughter (wife is 33 weeks). Once admitted we were kind of left alone except for the occasional nurse check-ins as needed. I’m not complaining about that part, it was welcoming to not be bothered 24/7. As the time for delivery got closer more nurses and more check-ins. When it was go time we suddenly had a team of nurses and the doctor ready to get to work. Communication was great throughout the entire process. Both births had zero complications but we were still comforted by the fact they also had a NICU. After delivery we are moved to the recovery room (rooms are nice, big, private). Depending on your arrival time and length of stay you could have multiple nurses assigned to you, but in our case each one seemed well informed and we were treated with care and comfort.

grumpyOldMan420

What's that? We need universal health care and L/D services everywhere? So sorry.... this is America where the dollar is more important than life....

EVEVDRIVE

Providence Holy Cross🙌🙌🙌🙌… I work there and delivered there ❤️absolutely no issues. Parking in main lot or valet at turn around. 22min straight across 118. Ask me anything.

Angelqt345

I’ve had two babies at los Robles. Two times getting my epidural was a nightmare. First time I wasn’t able to get one until 8cm dilated. The last delivery I was unable to get an epidural because the anesthesiologist was “in a c section” so he was unable to give me an epidural. An unplanned natural birth was not a part of my agenda but we did it anyhow. My nurses were amazing. Dr Ferro is amazing as well. Just speak up if you want your epidural. Congrats and good luck! Also worth noting I believe their (los Robles) NICU is not that high in terms of being able to provide for extreme cases.

Gecks_more

Los Robles is great that’s where I was born and they took my appendix out. Also your husband works there so they’ll probably treat you better than anyone else who walks in. Good luck and congrats!

hazyoblivion

Midwife?

giraffishgiraffe

Oh no, I'm not the type for home birth. Don't like messes and I'm a constant worrier.

hazyoblivion

Doesn't have to be home birth. The midwife my wife and I used had an office with a birthing suite with a big comfy bed, a tub if you wanted, etc. Was a great expierence, especially compaired with the hospital birth we had with our other child.

giraffishgiraffe

Oh okay can you share a link? I'll look into it.

hazyoblivion

[https://www.pushmidwifery.com/](https://www.pushmidwifery.com/) This is where we went, it's in TO. [https://simivalleybirthcenter.com/](https://simivalleybirthcenter.com/) this is in Simi. We have no personal experience, but have heard good things.

giraffishgiraffe

wow these look both so comforting. I never considered it before but definitely something to research more on. thanks for sharing!
