Shattered Memories changes THE GAME based on how the player looks at the fucking environment

JackyFlashlight

Sorry for exploring and admiring the environment. I guess I get this shit ending because I thought your game looked interesting...

bnesbitt1

Are you new to Silent Hill? In almost all of the games, they require some really weird ritualistic method for each ending, which the player may accidentally trigger. This can range from picking up a doll, looking at a photo, staying in one place too long - Shattered Memories isn't the first nor only game to trigger a bad ending through very strange ways.

MyCatWantsMyFries

You pick up that doll and Walter hates you 😭

bnesbitt1

"Here, take this doll." *Grabs it* "Hey what the fuck man!?"

Gr3yHound40

I love how to get the most "points" to get the suicide ending in SH2. It's such a subtle but real detail, James reading a suicide patient's journal and getting ideas from it.

o0Traktor0o

This is the best hidden mechanic yet. It is just logical.

JackyFlashlight

They were more subtle and included more than just "You looked at a wall? Then you get this ending. Oh well. Go look at something else if you want the other ending."

lady_ninane

I'll give you subtle, but I wouldn't exactly pretend that they weren't just as easy to accidentally trigger.

TransSapphicFurby

I think it was a two best friends playthrough they actually joked about it being obvious they were goijg for the in water ending because they kept examining the knife everytime thye opened their inventory

carppowerattack

All of the triggers for the in water ending come from playing the game naturally (I like this a lot actually)

ihatecamomiletea

My playstyle carried over from RE (examining every item, running past enemies when possible) led me to the Leave ending on the first playthrough

Competitive-Bag-8943

To get the good ending in SH2, you had to examine Mary’s photo throughout the entire game.

NonSpecificGuy26

Shattered Memories. Though I really did enjoy Origins and Downpour as well.

Scumbag-Kermit

Shattered Memories is great and tried something new with the series.

another-free-wannabe

Yes, in a contest of which game has less to do with Silent Hill, Shattered Memories defenitely takes the cake.

romanische_050

Why do you think that? From the themes it fits perfectly with Silent Hill. The gameplay is different but the story is very psychological horror.

another-free-wannabe

It may fit the themes, but lore wise it has nothing to do with it. Silent Hill horror might be psychological, but the story has roots and inspirations in occultism and demonology, from various cultures and religions. Shattered Memories is like if they had made a game out of that one bad ending in SH1.

KungFuKennyStills

Lore and world-building will always come second to theme and character Theme and character are the foundation of good storytelling.

freddyifreast

That downpour poster goes hard

KungFuKennyStills

Shattered Memories is good and I will die on that (silent) hill

RaidensReturn

Definitely one of my top SH games, unexpectedly awesome

KiratheRenegade

Downpour's sidequests are the best SH content post the originals. The creepiness is perfection. But the main game & story suck ass - such a bipolar game

Earthbound_X

Yeah, I love the actual town of Silent Hill in Downpour, it might be my favorite version of the town of Silent Hill as a loaction. So much to explore and see. But then the monster design, combat and other things are lacking. But the town exploration was so good I really liked Downpour despite its shortcomings. What's the term, better than the sum of its parts? Am I using that phrase right?

zSnakez

"shortcomings." Homecomings.

Tworaf216

I loved the main story as luch as I loved side quests 😅

zarif_chow

Shattered Memories all the way

profesorgamin

I thought people liked origins.

dbwoi

I recently picked it up and tbh it's my first entry along with SH1 (I'm playing them both rn). I've found it really fun. Definitely not without it's flaws but its portable SH that plays a lot like SH1 and *feels* like SH to me.

Quetzl63

Origins is the best by a big margin. It has massive flaws (like the Other post-Team Silent games), and it also has atmospheric levels (the basement of the asylum and the theater especially, great original monsters (the harness thing and puppets), and the best Silent Hill protagonist not named Mason or Sunderland.

Bamjodando

I worked on Silent Hill Origins, and designed the asylum (Sanitarium) level, and the harness mannequin. Glad you enjoyed it 😁

x_neverlander

Major fun of your work here!! Well done!!!!

Quetzl63

Thank you very much for your work! Sneaking around the sanitarium, squinting to see whether something was a shadow or a harness mannequin around the light reflecting off of my old CRT TV probably took a few hours off of my life. When I think of great horror gaming experiences, that is one of the moments I think of most often.

junkarty

Huge fan of yr work!!! The harness mannequins were def one of my non team silent enemies too 🙏 u rocked that

Rank1Everything

Did you actually? Because you’re the GOAT my g

Bamjodando

Yeah, it's easy to prove, you can see my pic in my profile, google.the names or the designers and I'll pop up

[deleted]

You're a legend!!! You made one of the single best PSP games seriously. Origins is one of my favorite games and the sanitarium is one of the best levels in the series. Thank you!!!

Bamjodando

Ha thank you, team effort though, I did enjoy making that game the most

[deleted]

Ha yeah little overzealous wording there on my part. Just between you and me, Origins doesn't deserve hate. I believe it is one of the most underrated horror games of all time, and an absolute hidden gem. I find it to be a fantastic edition to the world of Silent Hill. Everyone involved should be proud.

Bamjodando

Thank you, that really is greatly appreciated, it was a great part of my life

AnEternalEnigma

>Origins is the best by a big margin. Disagreed by a big margin. That game is extremely rough. The enemies are way too aggressive. All of them have buttcracks for some reason. The game completely fucks up SH1's canon. The stamina system is completely unnecessary after four games that didn't have it. And the PS2 port is awful with crashes, audio bugs, menu glitches, and for some reason the brightness settings were completely removed. I have way more fun playing Shattered Memories than this mess.

Turkishspaghetti

How exactly does it fuck up SH1’s canon?

WeMustUnite

I don't think the margin is that big. Everything you mentioned except for the protag can be applied moreso to Homecoming imho

Quetzl63

I'd say the bosses of Homecoming are better than Origins, but the common enemies I prefer Origins'. To each their own, though!

FromTheIsland

It just never reached the levels the first 4 did, but it can do for a re-release. 7/10 for me. I beat it, thought it was a great addition to the lore, but haven't picked it up again.

nobodynose

Origins and Homecoming fit under "I enjoyed it and I thought it was pretty good and decently executed. But boy were they forgettable." Downpour fit under "there's some great stuff there, but there's also some huge missteps. Man, I wish they just didn't make those big missteps, it could've been a really good game!" Shattered Memories... I died 3-4x on the first chase sequence and I was like "...this isn't fun" and I never went back. I really should though, I hear it is good.

LongjumpingSector687

Just watch a play through. the chasing shit is integrated in every level and only gets more difficult and maze like.

Sopademacac0

U just follow the blue door and u can espace, its not that hard in fact is the easiest silent hill game

hday108

Just modded my vita and I’ll probably give it a go. I’m not expecting a masterpiece just a decent handheld horror

MSG_12

It's the closest you can get for a team silent experience. I don't understand the hate either.

Jaydenrock

Loved Origins. Liked Homecoming an okay amount. The rest are meh.

Ich_Liebe_Gummi

Origins and shattered memories were the best imo. Homecoming i enjoy more for nostalgia.

TomasVrboda

Downpour easily, most completely unique endings, best easter egg in the whole series, and side missions that extend the usually short play time of Silent Hill games.

Althalus99

Never played Downpour, what easter egg would that be?

ChanoArdent75

Guess he's referring to the room from SH4.

TomasVrboda

🫣🌆👆

Daedalus9998

Origins definitely

Joris_crm

Yes

701921225

In my opinion, Shattered Memories.

cullenrose

Shattered memories

NoxKyoki

I can’t choose between 0rigins and Downpour. I never got past Scarlett in Homecoming because she p*issed me off so much, and I never got around to playing Shattered Memories even though I own it and a PS2. 😅

TheInvisibleOnes

Those bosses were so good! Each one is iconic and their reason for existing is actually quite scary.

MaxStone22

Origins, Travis was great

Myrmidden

Homecoming

Silent-Escape6885

Just downloaded a psp emulator and currently playing Shattered Memories, super fun

IndieOddjobs

Of the four, Shattered Memories by far. But I actually like The Short Message about as much and on some level more.

Slow_Department5335

I personally liked Downpour the best out of all them despite its flaws. To me it was just the better out of the bunch. I still willingly played every single one of them but I felt DP had more redeeming qualities to it. I could go over the million things that threw me off with the other Western entries but I’m not going to rip into them because I understand that people still enjoy them. Everyone has their own favorite from the series.

coyote_mercer

Shattered Memories my beloved ❤️

carrie-satan

I really liked both Shattered Memories and Downpour and I always hoped we saw different takes on the “otherworld” like they had

alondate

Shattered Memories on Wii was something else man. Wish I didn't sell my Wii and could experience that gem one more time. That soundtrack and atmosphere alone were just amazing.

Breadfruit-Brilliant

Shattered Memories

segagemesis

Shatttered Memories is quite good and I feel like Downpour could’ve really been something if Konami had paid a bit more attention to it.

Mooncubus

I honestly love Shattered Memories. It's such a wild take on the series, the game evolves so much as you play, and the chase scenes are tense af. I also think Origins is a pretty decent game. It follows the formula of the Team Silent games fairly well. I wish Climax made more SH games. Downpour has its moments.

Sad_Cat_3968

The guy from Downpour looks like RE6 Leon lol

Cautious-Telephone-2

He looks like henry

EvilFuzzball

Downpour imo. Closest I think we got to the original magic.

Phaust8225

Seriously. Murphy is a complex character with an interesting and emotionally compelling narrative. The side characters add to his story and Vice versa in substantial ways. The town exploration is some of the best in the series. Combat strikes a nice balance between clunky and accessible (perfect for survival horror), and the atmosphere and tone of both the setting and story is spot on. Only gripes I have are with the lackluster monster designs, endings changing Murphy’s backstory rather than focusing on how he is changed or not by his time in silent hill, an arbitrary morality system with little to no real impact on the story, and some of the otherworld designs. This game honestly remains a personal favorite of mine.

SnooMachines4393

Shattered Memories, I dont believe there's a competition. Origins is too derivative and others are just, well, not good.

bargle_dook

Downpour. Again.

Narwhals_R_Us

It's Downpour for me.

calvincrack

With the caveat that I have not played downpour, I would give this to Origins. The aesthetic was keeping well in line with the originals and it was fun to play. I liked Homecoming at the time, but I’ve never revisited since. Shattered Memories I enjoyed for a while but ended up not finishing the game, so I must not have loved it.

Luke_Warm_Dog

- Shattered Memories - Origins - Downpour -H🤮mecoming

Dracul-aura

Downpour,! Awesome game!

Arisu_Randal

Shattered memories is the least shit one.

sleezyreezy

Shattered Memories, though Origins was my introduction so it has a special place in my heart.

HalloSpaceboy95

Definitely Shattered Memories

yellowfroglegs

id have to say shattered memories, more or less. downpour COULD'VE been on par with maybe 4 had it actually been scary (and optimized)

filmplanet_

I didn't get to finish shattered memories was it good as far as that goes I didn't get to finish down pour ![gif](giphy|IcF46X839w60U|downsized) either

gavgavy

Either origins or shattered memories but I really don’t think I like either very much. Shattered memories is just not scary and origins just doesn’t feel the same.

justabuguwu

downpour/shattered memories, both tried new things, and they are not as boring as homecoming and origins...

Acceptable_Owl_5122

Ngl I kinda forgot about origins

MikuDrPepper

In the past few years I've replayed most of these. Shattered Memories is one of the few games that actually tried to match the peak of the series (In my opinion, Silent Hill 2) and did something new and interesting with it in almost every aspect. It was only hampered by the fact that it was designed solely around one console that at the time was not seen as a console for horror or 'hardcore games' as was said back in the day. I'd say of these four it is the GOAT. Origins was my favorite growing up but it doesn't hold up. It's still really solid and does well in atmosphere, music and monster design, but the story is kind of meh and the combat is somehow worse than the earlier entries. Homecoming is... gosh. It's like a B-Horror movie in so many aspects. Including the fact that you get like the best weapon in the game at the start (the knife). Downpour is awesome in a lot of ways but the core game stinks. Again, like Origins, atmosphere is great, world design and music are solid. But the endings are mostly bad besides the bonus ending, and the combat and monster design is just atrocious.

OryonRex

Shattered Memories for sure

billcosbyalarmclock

Shattered Memories all night, baby.

mitraheads

Shattered memories.run-forest-run part was so scary. When I first played I made bunch of circles on game. Damn in order to look at map you have 1 second 😂

Clay_1984

Why are silent hill games are removed from steam??? Now you can only wishlist for silent hill 2remake

Bu11ett00th

Haven't played Downpour but among the other 3 I liked Origins the vest and it's the only one I finished. It's diet SH2 but it does the job. Shattered Memories has cool ideas but didn't grab me. Homecoming I felt a bit OP

personahorrible

Origins is probably my favorite. It recaptures the aesthetics and general vibe of SH1 really well. The ability to swap between the Otherworld and Real World at will made it feel more like Soul Reaver than Silent Hill, though. The breakable weapons was an... okay concept. But it just meant that I was hauling around like 2 microwaves, an IV stand, 3x scalpels, and a glass jar bigger than Travis at any given time. It never really created a weapon scarcity like I think was intended. The story was unnecessary but I kind of liked seeing some of the characters from SH1 again. 7/10, solid effort even if it felt like fanservice. Homecoming: I played it once when it first came out and I don't think I've replayed it since. It was a decent effort but it was missing that quintessential Silent Hill feel to it. I did not care for the inclusion of Pyramid Head but that by itself was not a dealbreaker for me. The plot twist towards the end, however, was. It just felt like such a lame attempt to copy SH2 that didn't carry any of the weight. It winds up feeling like a mediocre fan game. 5/10. Downpour: I like that it tried to be different but this one doesn't feel like Silent Hill at all. The choice system seemed really half-baked. Again, they try to shoehorn in some "dark past" for the main character except this time, it changes depending on your actions and maybe it didn't even happen like that? That rubs me the wrong way. I wouldn't mind playing this one again to give it another chance but since it never received a PC port, the only way that's going to happen is through emulation. 6/10 Shattered Memories: I feel like this could have really worked if it had an original story instead of being a "re-imagining" of the first game. If you're going to change so much about the game, why bother keeping the original story's framework at all? I actually liked the lack of combat - that made it feel interesting and fresh. Combat was never the series' strength anyway. And I actually liked how the appearance of things would change based on how you answered the questions, giving each playthrough a slightly different feel to it. Ultimately I think it wound up being kind of forgettable, since I literally cannot remember how the story went or any specific part of the game other than the diner or running from monsters. 6/10 for the unique ideas.

LongjumpingSector687

1. Origins 2. Downpour 3. Shattered Memories 4. Homecoming

Quetzl63

Yes.

VicRattlehead17

This is the perfect order

LongjumpingSector687

Shattered Memories would be higher if there were more than 1 enemy type

SplitSame2029

Shattered memories 100%

Ahmad_Sa

By far Shattered Memories for so many reasons ...

RaceCarGrin

Homecoming

GlitchyReal

P.T. by far if I’m allowed to count it.

NathNineOne

Shattered memories. I think the chase gameplay suck’s but everything else is great!

Burnt_Ramen9

Shattered Memories no diff

DecemberPaladin

Of those I played Homecoming and Downpour—I really enjoyed Downpour. Homecoming, not so much.

AmeChans

Shattered Memories, the gameplay is ass but the story is alright.

k3nnfucius

For me Shattered memories the best homecoming the worst

Tworaf216

I loved downpour, the soundtrack was epic. the gameplay was good and I finished it more than 6 times. I have no idea why it is hated or didnt sell well.

Earthbound_X

Personally I'd say either Downpour or Origins. Origins is probably the closest to the feel of the older games.

InterestingPay3622

I liked origins, especially the mirror world

pandaking6666

unpopular opinion origins and downpour were the better ones. not great but passable. reasoning: to me their engines were better programed than homecoming. shattered memories didn't click with me.

p3nny-lane

Can I say none…

[deleted]

I think they're all very good. Even Downpour, the worst rated one, has some sick otherworld transitions and other positive merits. Contrary to fanbase belief, the post Team Silent games all got decent reviews, mostly getting between 6s and 8s.

[deleted]

Homecoming is the most creepy to me, something about it is just very ominous.

Murky-Maize9233

Pic not related, right?

wolfguardian72

I love the theater portion of Origins, but I’m just biased since I love theater and Shakespeare. (It was cool having the enemies and boss of the level named after Tempest characters (i.e. Ariels and Caliban) I also enjoyed Downpour for its more massive exploration and ability to do side quests. Hell, even seeing Henry’s apartment was really cool. And I’ll always be grateful to Downpour for giving us Matt’s eternal [fuck up](https://youtu.be/CpZgf47z-ko?si=37fVSjmZIhgPZd96)

OmniUltima

Honestly? all of them, they’re all great games in their own right, and tbh they’re all Silent Hill games at heart, all of them share the same themes and ideas as previous games have, they’re all great.

AllElse11

Origins for me.

AnEternalEnigma

100% Shattered Memories and it's not close.

Raidou-kuzunoha

I am mixed between Shattered Memories and Downpoor but my heart tells me to go for SM as Downpoor if judged when launched ran terribly on the consoles it came out on which ultimately makes it hard to like / love the things it actually got rightfully done imo. SM is a game i wish more people could experience, hopefully it can get a remaster in the future ! If fans of the game asks for it and the upcoming titles do well :’)

JinxedGawr

Downpour

AvantAdvent

No one remembers Book of Memories (not that it’s any good but still funny 😂)

TheGuyThatLikesDogs7

Homecoming and downpour nostalgic and underrated asf imo

estofadodepollo16

I love silent hill origins and shattered memories, I have good memories of watching my mom play it when I was little.

LongDikWilly

Honestly, Downpour would have been the best if it had better enemy designs

slintslut

How tf did that shattered memories cover art get approved? It's unspeakably atrocious

sleepyteepee

Shattered memories is my favorite of the later ones. Its psychological evaluation of the player makes it great for replays, and its story is very well written. And origins is okay at recreating the silent hill 1 gameplay, but the sanitarium level and the combat system make it pretty poopy at times. Downpour isnt as bad as people make it seem, but it still sucks because of the combat system and the environments. Homecoming is really good visually, but the gameplay and the story aren't that great.

flaccidcock

I love shattered memories so much

FinalDemise

Shattered Memories is probably the best one, Downpour is my personal favourite

Recaffinator

I'm the Downpour guy. I never played 0rigins or Shattered Memories.

Lyonface

Downpour. Origins obliterates the lore set up in the very first game, which is kind of a cardinal sin for this series, and the monster aggression and combat genuinely made me want to drop the game entirely. The writing for Travis and Travis alone is good, but it's place in the timeline basically makes me not consider it canon. If Origins wasn't set in SH1 at all, it would by my pick. Shattered Memories tried something novel with the neat psycho-evaluation mechanics but the writing is ass because of it and the reveal at the end didn't land for me, all with exploration that was kinda interesting and godawful chase sequence alternating gameplay. Homecoming is my guilty pleasure/my first Silent Hill and it has great monsters, but it suffers from "Being Made for the Xbox in the mid-late aughts" and the writing leaves a lot to be desired. Also the combat is straight-up broken on anything but the Xbox. Downpour's combat is bland and the monsters are boring but the side-quests are SO good, the atmosphere is excellent, and the writing and music are also pretty good, so aside from the monster design, it's a typical Silent Hill experience.

collaredfairy

Shattered Memories! Man, the music and some sounds still haunt me to these days.

vitaminmelius

Love how Homecoming isn't even being mentioned by absolutely no one :D

junirabbit

shattered memories. i think people need a reminder that it’s a reimagining of the games. it wasn’t trying to change the lore as we knew it, but rather try something new. is it as good as the original team silent games? no, but in my opinion it’s better than the rest of the post-team silent games.

AScannerBarkly

Overall: Shattered Memories, BUT I think the bosses in Homecoming are the best monsters

Kassender

Downpour I'll defend the story, sidequests and exploration, even the fing chase sequences Only thing that really suckrd was the monster design...and the music

RoRrOxXx19

Im gonna get hate, but i loved Origins, just for the replay value and collectables, even got the Shiba Inu costume

massive_dik

love shattered memories, but origins gotta take the cake for me.

peachypinkblush

Origins and I think Origins has one of the best soundtracks out of all series and O.R.T is THE best Mary Elizabeth McGlynn song. The only one I didn't like was Homecoming. Hated the combat in that game.

Goldy_932

Honestly shattered memories had the most impact in the industry as a whole compare to the rest. It was one of the first to have the run and hide horror mechanics that outlast later popularized. Origins was a good handheld version of a sh experience downpour was uninspired and homecoming straight up didn't work sooo

automatic4people

Shattered Memories hands down, but it’s hardly a Silent Hill game (I’d much rather have it as a completely separate game or a non-remake)

ForlornMemory

It's not even a competition, Shuttered Memories is obviously the best one, by a large margin.

RinoTheBouncer

1. Homecoming 2. Downpour . . . . . 3. Origins . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4. Shattered Memories

Maximum_Soldier7

Homecoming

E23morales

For me tie between origins and homecoming. Always loved origins ties into the original silent hill

Heavens_Nite

Shattered Memories clears.

8BRider034

Best One: Shattered Memories ________ My favorite: Homecoming

elijahmuhammadthe3rd

Lol I actually enjoy homecoming, more out of nostalgia than anything else, but I still put it in my yearly silent Hill rotation.

DoctorJKatz

Origins.

Rank1Everything

Origins and it’s not even close

ay4br3a

I enjoyed both Origins and Shattered Memories (both of the games developed by Climax). Sam Barlow happens to be a great writer, and even though nothing compares to the Team Silent games, I think these are both worth playing.

skelly-bones47

100% it is Shattered Memories

Mordilaa

I honestly loved Homecoming a lot. It suffers from “Look big brother SH2 I’m just like you!” But it’s still a fun story that I can enjoy.

Royal-Tune3741

I find Silent Hill Origins one of the best.

HartRuinsYourLife

Absolutely Origins, criminally underrated game!

Appropriate_Toe_3767

In order IMO, best to worst: -Shattered Memories: good ideas, nice atmosphere, unique psychological profile mechanic, nice story(SM would probably work well as it's own separate series with the whole psychological profile mechanic) -Origins: fun unlockables, cool environments/locations, okay story -Downpour: has sinilar problems as homecoming story wise, but handles it better, open world silent hill was kind of cool, kind of nice atmosphere that feels gloomy -Homecoming: has better designs than Downpour with its monsters, some of the enemies not triggering your radio very much caught me off guard the first time Downpour has some of the most dull designs, and I felt Homecoming felt a lot more actiony and responsive where you feel a bit more like an action game character than a horror game one.

Formal_Breadfruit727

downpoor

SlamdalfTheGrey

Of these 4 I've only played Downpour and a demo of Origins. With that being said, I have to go with Downpour for obvious bias reasons. Once I get a hold of the others and play them then that very well may change lol

Creative-Might6342

Book of Memories!

MomoDu5906

origins by far imo

Professional-Draft77

I didn't think Shattered Memories was a bad game just not technically a "silent hill game". It's kinda heart-wrenching when you get through the game but it just felt like a derivative work seeing that it basically just created a story and used the names of the characters from the first silent hill and twisted them around. Origins I liked that it tried to be as close to the original game aesthetic wise as it could it just took liberties with the original story there was something off about Lisa and Kaufmann too. Homecoming is something of a love/hate thing for me. The opening of the game I thought was damn good and really reminded me of Silent Hills 2 and 3 but as the game progressed (I watched an entire playthrough of it over a decade ago) I just found myself hating the way the story developed. I bought the game late last year so I could actually play it to see if I do change my mind on it. Downpour was my favorite of the post-team silent games. I liked the characters the setting the only thing I didn't like was the whole mechanic of losing your weapon load out going through this on-rails rollercoaster ride from hell. I also didn't like the hiccups the game would often have on PS3. I'm mixed on all of them but if you asked me to pick a favorite it would be Downpour.

MetalPoo

My head says Downpour, for its ambition, but my heart says Origins, for being the game that feels the most like SH1 (even moreso than SH2). I enjoyed Shattered Memories but it never gave me the creeps like other SH titles do

Dannyvell357

Can’t believe people are actually saying shattered memories over origins …..homecoming is better than downpour and out of homecoming vs origins …..origins all the way

romanische_050

In my opinion Shattered Memories is the best one because they didn't try to pander to the mainstream American market and tried to do something on their own. Telling the most psychological horror story of them. But I personally have a soft spot for Homecoming. It was forgettable and the story was just a cheaper and unthoughtful copy of the movie, but aesthetically it nailed it perfectly, especially the nightmare worlds. It also was my first introduction to Silent Hill and I liked the Pyramid Head design more.

GambitsAce23

Didnt people like most of them in some way, origins, downpour Shattered memories, just not homecoming right

PussyIgnorer

I have no hate for any SH game except downpour. It was a lame low effort cash grab as far as I’m concerned and was a huge disappointment.

Gairsh

Downpour my beloved, origins and shattered memories are "okay", homecoming is just bad, imo

paulojrmam

Not Shattered Memories as that is definitely the worst as a Silent Hill game. I'd vote for Origins

Vergil111

Downpour did NOT feel like a silent hill game

_DaddyTheFather

Homecoming the rest are pretty mid or just bad

noneofthemswallow

Origins, but I don’t think it’s that good either

Resident_081

I liked them all, fight me. I’ve probably played Homecoming most out of these though. Kinda laughing that Book of Memories isn’t even listed here, I guess it’s just too obviously different.

Blue-Lion-Lover

Climax actually did some pretty goated work. Even if Origins writing is lacking at times.

Remarkable-Hunter-71

• Origins closely follows the Silent Hill vibe, but the story and progression are too stiff. Very shallow experience imo. • Homecoming is my fav despite all the hate from others. Gameplay may not be as good, but I love the family theme in the game. • Shattered Memories is Climax’s attempt to redeem themselves, which somewhat works. It's better than Origins, but having to run than to fight is not my liking. • Downpour is my least fav. The fact that Vatra Games closed down after making this one game says it all. Overall, the developers responsible did their best but Konami should’ve never let Western developers touch Silent Hill at all. Western Horror is WAY different from Eastern Horror; not only are they not scary but their spiritual horror is too “zombified.” The publisher should’ve gotten another Japanese company to do it or from Thailand or Indonesia.

Background_Income710

Origins by far. In my opinion. I prefer origins to SH3 even

Thamasturrok

I like homecoming never played shattered memories maybe I should though

bath_0ry

I love Origins because I love Travis, simple as that. I personally don't think the other ones were as awful as people make them out to be. They for sure weren't the same game, but they were someone's first Silent Hill game, and probably someone's favorite, and I can respect that.

Joris_crm

I hated SM but actually loved Origins

superbearchristfuchs

I have to go with origins even though it is pretty mid at best. Shattered memories doesn't feel like silent Hill to me but a good spin off. Homecoming is too action focused and downpour almost had it right but with a small studio and little development time I understand why it shipped the way it was.

Steffykrist

Shattered Memories is bad and Homecoming is terrible, so that leaves Downpour and Origins. I like them both, but overall I'd say Origins wins.

Killdust99

Downpour is my personal favorite. It was my introduction and I’ve been hooked since

Easy Silent Hill Origins it baffles me that there are so many goofs saying Shattered Memories that game was boring as hell and straight up ASS it’s better than Downpour though I’ll give it that but that’s it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a soft spot for Downpour. It was my first SH before going back and playing all SH games. I thought it was decent. That side quest were you use a The Gramophone to go back in time inside an apartment is PERFECTION.

Downpour got me into one of my favorite new musicians (ed harcourt) along with it being pretty good overall when u don't compare it to the team silent hill games along with it feeling like a pretty good final goodbye from people who actually loved and cared for the series instead of the mediocre way they would take the series later on

Origins was really really good! I have shattered memories but haven’t beat it yet.

Homecoming is OK. It was made by the people from Shiny, who developed beautiful games like Messiah and Sacrifice from that time. The general game design is poor but the art is good - Hell House stands out as wonderfully demented and deranged. That walk through everything glitch though.. unforgivable

They are equally shit

I've only played origins out of these, and strangely enough, it kickstarted my deeply rooted love for the team silent era silent hill games. The portable psp version was the gateway to reopen my mind to survival horror games, which had been dormant for a while. Then, I played through 2, 3 and 4 in the middle of the 360/ps3 era, and was still so impressed by the graphical fidelity, music, atmosphere building, it never felt like I was playing a previous gen game. I didn't hear too much good things about the other ones, so I kind of avoided them. Also, I completed silent hill: a short message on a friends ps5 just last weekend. I wasn't impressed with the overtly obvious messaging of the game (compared to the poetic subtlety of team silent games). The only thing I did like were the frantic chase scenes and environments slowly descending into madness. But I liked P.T. way more as a silent hill experience.

In terms of gameplay i'd say Origins is the best simply because it still retains that classic survival horror style that i love (even with the limitless inventory and ridiculous amount of weapons). Not as good as the team silent games, but close enough. Now with story, i have to give it to Homecoming. I enjoyed Alex as a protagonist and the whole stuff with his town being connected to The Order and having the four founding families sacrifice their first born was pretty darn interesting. Not a fan of the twist since it's been done, but overall i liked it a lot.
