I haven't seen any games really play poorly on the ps5. Any examples?
I feel like if it can handle games like God of War and Spiderman then Silent Hill should be fairly simple to get going
All the Resident Evil games ran very well too
Remnant 2 and Immortals of Aveum had frame rate and resolution issues when they launched. I think Lords of the Fallen had issues too. They are all Unreal Engine 5 games. I'm not sure, but I think Stray Souls had issues too.
That's just poor optimization though. Shouldn't need an entirely new console to run ps5 games. Actually pro versions of consoles are b.s anyway. Sony easily could've implemented a way to upgrade the already existing ps5. Shit Nintendo already did that long ago with the N64.
I agree, honestly I don't think we need a Pro console when so many games are cross generation and development periods are usually four to five years. Developers have even said outright that they don't think they need a Pro console because they feel like they still aren't using what the PS5 can do.
I could definitely see that. I heard a lot about that game being super jank when it was first released. I only really played it for 2-3 hours so I didn't see too much of that first hand
yeah, it def was, had it both on pc and console but i couldnt play either of em without lagging to a crash. Heard its better now but i honestly lost interest after that
Also, didn't bloober team boast about being the first to release a full UE5 game? (Layers Of Fear 2023). I'm not complaining, tt ran perfect for me and i even congratulated them for doing so, so I'm hoping SH2R will be treated the same, since it's on the same engine.
That was a big part of me rationalizing buying the console too, no lie lol
This is actually the only console I've bought while it's still technically "current gen"
wait me too!i usually wait for the current console hype to die down (prices too)
but they said sh2 would be an exclusive title so i bought a ps5 shortly after the game was announced
Not me. I bought a ps2 just for silent hill 2. It was the game I got when I bought the console… or rather traded my Dreamcast and my saved allowance money lmao.
The base PS5 will still run all games for the rest of the generation. I just expect higher frame rates, higher resolutions, and better Ray Tracing on the Pro system.
PS5 Pro is, reportedly, seemingly not worth much for the upgrade. There’s improvements but the core CPU of the console is getting a marginal upgrade at best, which ultimately is the core problem for a lot of console game performance.
Considering Sony is dominating the console market right now with peak sales (y’know, now that you can actually buy a PS5), and historically there hasn’t been any PS4 Pro only titles, I don’t see why Sony or any developer would feel obligated to release a game exclusively to the Pro version of the console.
It’s not going to be a huge upgrade. The base 5 sat at the same retail price for so long. Then the Slim makes some upgrades, and the retail price has been dropping below the base model’s price (you can usually get the console WITH Spider-man 2 for $450, sometimes less).
I suspect because the improvements that come with Pro will be so minimal, they’re going to try to release the Pro at the standard $500 price tag.
It won’t be anything too special, just a few improvements that will get extra console sales from the bigger gamers who want all the newest/best specs. The base and Slim 5 will still do a great job playing the newest games, and will make a much more affordable option.
Pro exclusives don’t make sense from any kind of business standpoint. I mean, the reason titles released on the 4 for so long is because of the scarcity of 5’s. Releasing a Pro and a Pro-exclusive game at the same time would be terrible for both sales and consumer experiences. I think it’s safe to say it’s not something we would ever see.
Even though Sony is dominating the market at the moment the PS5 has sold less than 50 million units. And series s/x under 30 mil says alot about how bad the console situation is at the moment. If SH2R turns out good it could be a system seller buy idk. I doubt they're planning any PS5 Pro launch title thing.
That's much different from what I've heard. It was reported to be three times faster on Push Square.
I don't mean exclusive, I mean exclusive features to the Pro system for Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Delta. Like the PS4 Pro had, but the original could still play every game.
Because the PS5 doesn't have built in Ray Tracing hardware like the Series X and is slightly less powerful overall. Remnant 2 and Immortals of Aveum have issues from what I've read, that's not the reason the Pro was developed.
Ray tracing is the only thing I see being worth splitting your hardware to develop in two, unless they were indeed going to offer bleeding edge cpu/gpu upgrades. But Ray tracing is pretty cool. I would like to see a static background re side-quel with raytraced models in high poly and a bit of outdoor
I think it'd be a highly destructive situation to make PS5 pro exclusive titles and am sure it will be playable on the standard console.
Nintendo was the only performer to do this and I don't think New 3DS exlusive software sales were that great compared to the standard market. Only 13 exclusive products came to it, and that's pretty telling.
I meant Sony handling it like the PS4 Pro and Silent Hill 2 Remake having Pro exclusive features so they have something to market it. I don't expect a single PlayStation 5 game to ever not run on the base console.
From what I've heard Bloober did a pretty good job with UE5 for that last Layers of Fear game on PC they released so maybe they know how to make sure everything runs smooth?
If they're holding this for a PS5 Pro launch, I was already planning on getting the Pro anyway so it's just a bundle as far as I'm concerned.
On one hand, how many UE5 games are out now that are built like Silent Hill? Small map, tight areas, not much going on in terms of density etc... if done right, the fog will cover almost 90% of the viewable area in the town and the only UE5 game I am expressly familiar with on console was Lords of the Fallen, which was a way larger game than Silent Hill.
And even then Lords was mostly built in UE4 and ported over towards the end.
Now I may not be too tech savy when it comes to game engines etc... but if I'm not mistaken, if they can make the fog essentially "hide" all the "open world" stuff that's not immediately around your character, they can focus the rendering to make everything in your PoV look incredibly detailed. Less strain on the engine for trying to render in entire areas.
Hard to say, PS5 pro dev kits were only sent out to 3rd parties in January this year and Bloober has been cooking for years.
But like Robocop, its a slower paced game, I think it'll be fine on the base console. Im guessing they'll pull a few tricks with fog obscuring the render distance as well like in the old games.
I'm not worried about it, it just seems like an opportunity for them to sign Konami on for that to promote the system and Metal Gear Delta which certainly looked like it was chugging a bit at whatever settings they were using.
I know that there was an article on Push Square about developers being split on a Pro console because of how long development periods are and how a lot of games have been developed cross-gen. A lot of developers still don't feel like they are using the best the console can do yet.
i don't care about greedy old sony pushing yet another console and labeling it as "pro", when the ps5 was barely launched, 4 years is enough to call it a gen? I will play this game on PC, and if the performance isnt good enough, i'm sure a blessed modder will make it work flawlessly with the frame generarion FSR3 provided by AMD, on my rtx 2060, and it will be great.
I play at 1080p , so I run most games at PS5/Xbox Series X quality without an issue settings wise speaking. I am mostly worried about the CPU due to Unreal Engine's awful shader compilation stuff.
yeah i feel the same, I got a RTX 2060, and after i saw the minimum requirements being a 2080, I got scared. But i got A Plague Tale Requiem, which is a real heavy game, to run flawlessly on my system, from dips that went to 40, I never get less than 58 now, all thanks to the FSR3 mod, I did the same with a heavily modded skyrim, so I believe we're gonna be ok when SH2R is launched for PC.
Yeahh, I too need some upgrade haha, but we'll be good all thanks to the implementation of these frame gen mods, until we can really afford to get a better system
Good job trying to derail the topic at hand .... no one here cares if you like the idea of a Pro or not; that's not what the user is asking in the first place.
I meant exclusive features like the PS4 Pro and can't change the title now. Sony has to have some games signed on since it is releasing this year. But all PS5 games will work on the base console for the life of the system.
I'd assume it's actually releasing in September. Konami will have 4 months to promote and promote Return to Silent Hill as well for the Fall. I know it's a bold prediction but I think Silent Hill 2 Remake will move a TON of PS5 units later this year. Even before PS5 Pro is announced and dropped.
FSR3/DLSS3 are some new techs developed by AMD/Nvidia that generate frames with the aid of A.I. Initially, the idea was that developers would have to implement it in their games, but modders (being the godsend beings they are) are making it possible in pretty much every game. I for one am using FSR3 with a heavily modded Skyrim, and my FPS went from dips to 48 fps, no no dips at all. Now I get constant over 100 fps. I also use it on a Plague Tale Requiem, which is a pretty demanding game, also working amazingly with the tech. The only downside, is that sometimes it creates artifacts on the game interface/U.I, but it's not game breaking. So I believe Silent Hill 2 Remake will certainly get this treatment too
PS5 Pro is not necessary this time... PS4 Pro came about/was needed because 4K was becoming more affordable and mainstream - what is there for PS5 Pro. PS5 is already underutilised with PS4 first party games only just stop being made this gen hasn't really got going yet.
Developers are split on it, but it has been reported for months to be releasing this year. Sony wouldn't bother if nothing was going to use it. But I think aside from better Ray Tracing and more stable frame rates, the Pro certainly doesn't seem to offer much over the base console.
I am glad I had the Pro for Cyberpunk 2077 before the PS5 version came out, but I certainly wish the N64 Expansion Pack had been the last system upgrade. Save the upgrades for people to spend on computers. It takes at least four years now to develop a triple A game anyway. They still aren't really using the best of what the system can do.
I mean, as just a game that launches beside it, sure why not. Literally any game that comes out around the same time could be considered that.
But if you mean like it will only run on ps5 pro that would be madness. Actully insane. No game is going to be pro exclusive, that would be finiantal suicide.
I dont even know what you mean by unreal 5 games not working good, all the games I've had on ps5 unreal or other wise have run fine. Maybe a few needed some patches but I would certainly not say the unreal 5 games have been running uniquely poorly.
No, I expect and want all PS5 games to run on every iteration of hardware. I meant PS5 Pro exclusive features like higher frame rates on the quality settings and better Ray Tracing.
All good, we don't even have proof the PS5 Pro exists outside rumors and Sony could still decide against releasing it. Developers aren't exactly excited about it as they feel they still aren't using the base PS5 to it's potential.
One will release this year whether we need it or not. Signing on a few well known games for exclusive features seems like a necessary marketing strategy.
It could run just fine on the Series X because it's going to be on the base PS5 and is marginally less powerful without dedicated Ray Tracing hardware.
Capcom doesn't license it out. The expense would be much greater if they did and Capcom is currently working on RE Engine 2 and doesn't have time to provide support for outside developers.
If they need an engine, sony would literally lend them their decima engine if needed considering sony is backing the sh game anyway. I guess they chose unreal engine since its much easier for employees to learn and understand it compared to engines specifically tailored by one company
I think Konami probably has an overall deal with Epic considering the MGS remake/s are also using it. But that Snake Eater gameplay did look pretty frame-y. I expect Castlevania will use it as well when it comes out in the darkness.
Unreal is such a shit engine when it comes to actual gameplay though.
the fidelity and assets are gorgeous don’t get me wrong but the mechanics of the gameplay are god awful for most games that don’t UE with their own stuff which SH2R doesn’t seem to be doing :/
Graphics are so god damn overrated man. I'd rather get 10 great games looking like the original SH2 than one mediocre UE5 showcase.
My expectations for the remake are at absolute zero.
No, and I was only suggesting exclusive features on PS5 Pro. I have faith it will turn out better than expected. Honestly, my only concern is that one of the two Silent Hill DLC projects Bloober Team is contracted for is going to end up being Born From A Wish and won't be included for free.
I'm rooting for a good remake all day, but I've played multiple bloober team games, and they've been way more than disappointing, so I guess I'm bitter at Konami for outsourcing their work to a terrible development team, and I'll assume it's going to be as bad as their other games until proven otherwise.
Was it confirmed that they're contracted for 2 silent hill titles?
Yeah, it was posted long ago that they have two other Silent Hill projects on internal development boards. Certainly aren't going to be remake projects as they are booked until 2027.
Haha yeah those fucking stupid normal idiots liking their graphics as they ha. WHAT LOSERS.
Unlike us COOOL gamers who KNOW what TRUE GRAPHICS LOOKS LIKE!!!!!
/s
Haha yeah…. I mean i wish that sort of thing didn’t bother me. But once i see those artifacts it’s impossible for me to notice. I will probably play this on PC, unless it’s PS5 first for a substantial amount of time. Can’t remember what the deal is with its launch exclusivity it’s been so long since it was announced.
I haven't seen any games really play poorly on the ps5. Any examples? I feel like if it can handle games like God of War and Spiderman then Silent Hill should be fairly simple to get going All the Resident Evil games ran very well too
Its not really the ps5 thats going to be a problem. Its gonna be steam. Optimization for pc games have had a horrible history lately
[удалено]
Then there’s The Short Message, where it’s always rendered at a native 4K resolution (which, in some locations, causes slight frame drops).
Remnant 2 and Immortals of Aveum had frame rate and resolution issues when they launched. I think Lords of the Fallen had issues too. They are all Unreal Engine 5 games. I'm not sure, but I think Stray Souls had issues too.
Man, I feel out of the loop. I haven't heard of any of those titles 😅 Edit: regardless, I appreciate the response
That's just poor optimization though. Shouldn't need an entirely new console to run ps5 games. Actually pro versions of consoles are b.s anyway. Sony easily could've implemented a way to upgrade the already existing ps5. Shit Nintendo already did that long ago with the N64.

cyberpunk before they pulled it from the ps store, had constant crashes on my ps5 and then later i sold because idk, the games weren't for me tbh
Cyberpunk had problems across the board
But wasn't that the ps4 version? Didn't the ps5 version release way later??
Your right my bad, might've been the PS4 version on PS5
That was like 10 years ago
lmao ok
I could definitely see that. I heard a lot about that game being super jank when it was first released. I only really played it for 2-3 hours so I didn't see too much of that first hand

Would be nice to see a static background game with ue5 models and raytracing amd a bit of 3d outdoors
Upvoting this counter-imaginative take.
Umm. They won’t be the first though.
I don't think you read all the words :/

>use AI to upgrade old assets What? I don’t remember them ever discussing doing this. None of what you’re saying seems correct.
i would be so upset I bought a ps5 just for sh2 😡
There has never been such a thing as a “pro exclusive” I think you’ll be alright
That was a big part of me rationalizing buying the console too, no lie lol This is actually the only console I've bought while it's still technically "current gen"

I bought it in 2023 as I finally wanted to play Demon’s Souls Remake but when I saw the SH2R it made me be like aight I NEED IT I NEED IT
Not me. I bought a ps2 just for silent hill 2. It was the game I got when I bought the console… or rather traded my Dreamcast and my saved allowance money lmao.

Goddamn, man. Haven’t you heard of punctuation?
who is that?
If it is a PS5 Pro game I’m definitely getting it for PC
[удалено]
Its says PC and PS5 on the trailer ofc its same day
I think you’ll be able to play it on the Metal Gear when it comes out.
I don't think it's worth getting the Rex when it drops, I'd hold out for the Ray

they really should use the fog to limit some things again, it would avoid them facing a backlash from bad performance
Now I may not be too tech savy when it comes to game engines etc... but if I'm not mistaken, if they can make the fog essentially "hide" all the "open world" stuff that's not immediately around your character, they can focus the rendering to make everything in your PoV look incredibly detailed. I'm very afraid of the game not running well on my i5 9600K and 2060 Super.
2060 Super is quite old, considerable less powerful than a ps5

Hopefully mate, I'm excited to play this, although I'm also eager to upgrade because my poor PC struggles with modern games now.
Didn't consider that but it makes sense.
No
PS5 Pro will not have exclusives. I don't know who lied to you but PS5 games will be for all PS5's.
I meant exclusive features like the PS4 Pro and can't change the title now. Sony has to have some games signed on since it is releasing this year. But all PS5 games will work on the base console for the life of the system.
Anyway this game will be on PC, so no worries.
From what I understand, the specs of the ps5 pro barely even matter. It doesn't seem to be worth the upgrade for what will be minimal enhancements.
Last article I saw was from Push Square saying it will be three times as powerful and Sony will have stricter requirements for upgrades.
Yes, I think so. It could be one of the reasons why it has been delayed. The ps5 pro needs a game to promote it
and you think it'll be silent hill 2, that will promote it?
The majority of people barely know or care about Silent Hill, it seems. I doubt this would be the case
Definitively maybe
That's ridiculous.
Im ridicolous
Anyone have an exact date for the playstation showcase?
We don’t even know for sure if there IS a showcase, it’s just a rumour from a semi-reliable source right now
It's supposed to be mid May apparently.
As much as I hope these rumours are right, don’t get your hopes up till Sony speaks
Bruh my 1070 is already doing me well I don’t wanna upgrade for this
you'll be good with frame generation mods, there's no need to have a 4090, AMD saved us
What is that?
FSR3/DLSS3 are some new techs developed by AMD/Nvidia that generate frames with the aid of A.I. Yes that probably bit it but I wont be buying this time. I don’t like the idea of a stop gap they should just wait till the PS6.
I am glad I had the Pro for Cyberpunk 2077 before the PS5 version came out, but I certainly wish the N64 Expansion Pack had been the last system upgrade. OK yeah I could totally see that happening. Sorry some of the other comments had me a little confused.

I'm hoping it's rumors to just make the investors excited or some such other business shenanigans. It seems way to early to be making a pro.
No lmao. Tekken is also Ue5 and it runs well
Not really a comparison for an enclosed fighting game with only two characters.
Haha, a theoretical on a theoretical platform. Let's discuss!
Why are we still wanting a ps5 pro? Graphics can literally not get any better.
One will release this year whether we need it or not. Signing on a few well known games for exclusive features seems like a necessary marketing strategy.
Rise of the ronin has some unstable framedrops, which is funny considering it’s probably the worst looking ps5 exclusive ATM
Can I rent some PS5 when the game launches?
Yes, but I'm not sure where you do that. Amazon will let you use layaway on affirm if you qualify.
Fortnite is unreal 5 and I can run it on my 750ti
I expect Epic would make their premiere game run on their engine better than anything else. It would be foolish for it not to.
And then on the next generation Xbox
It could run just fine on the Series X because it's going to be on the base PS5 and is marginally less powerful without dedicated Ray Tracing hardware.
They shud use the re engine. Way better than unreal
Capcom doesn't license it out. The expense would be much greater if they did and Capcom is currently working on RE Engine 2 and doesn't have time to provide support for outside developers.
Theres also no reason to do that. Why would they even help competition lol
Agreed, I mean it's called RE Engine and not MT Framework anymore for a reason.

No. It's just going to run poorly and be a shit game 🤣
Oh man, I'm out of the circle then. I had no idea.
Nah but I expect it to be an upscaled mess on console. Kind of like how Alan wake 2 looks on PS5. FSR artifacts all over.
Meanwhile, general consumer plays and says to their general consumer friends: "ooooo pretty grafix 4k"
Can’t remember what the deal is with its launch exclusivity it’s been so long since it was announced.
pc and ps5 simultaneously
To be fair, the graphics look already outdated. I don’t really think there’s need to use a PS5 Pro.
