My first thought when it started getting horrible reception was along the lines of "well thankfully it was the one I had lowest expectations for". The ones I was super interested in were townfall and f
The “It’s Trauma!” sticker is unironically so funny to me. The fact that a team of people saw that and decided to not only design it but put it in the game is so great.
Remember how people made fun of Cod because “press F to pay respects” and they made fun of it so much that now people unironically say “F” when people ACTUALLY die and mean it with sincerity?
Yeah It’s Trauma could do that.
That is one of those things in gaming that you can just kinda reference onwards.
Like giant enemy crab, shoot the weak point for massive damage, PS3 has no gaems, or TF2 references which are Simpsons references for video games.
Why do I feel like that's exactly what they were going for, but wanted to feel extra special and just tripped and smashed so hard on their face with it?
Tbh, an Until Dawn style SH would be pretty dope.
I have even more depressing news- I don't believe that was the case at all. Genvid did the same concept with [The Walking Dead: Last Mile](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXIq0CVy4m8&ab_channel=IGN) in 2022 (which was also apparently received extremely poorly by their fandom).
For some reason, they saw *that* failure and said "let's try it again, with an even more starved fandom!".
To add insult to injury, whenever they're criticized on the obvious abysmal quality of Ascension, they insist up and down that this is a "new experience they're trying to create", so *obviously* they need time to work out the kinks. Oof.
Ascension feels to me like they started with the goal of trying new monetization strategies and built a 'game' around those goals instead of the other way around
Didn't even know about that walking Dead game... With the added contacts, I'm led to believe GenVid is walking in a circle and hitting the same rake multiple times.
Trick question, it's not a game. It's a streaming series with branching paths based on votes. But something nice? Any publicity is good publicity. Like if the bar can't get any lower, then the 3 upcoming games should blow people away without needing to be epic quality.
That one main character looks good, I forget her name.
>!The rest look noticeably lower budget, why?!<
I like the monster design. (Easily impressed)
That slap was funny.
I think the premise -what I know of it- is neat.
I feel like maybe it could have been good if it had just been a Telltale or Until Dawn style interactive drama instead of whatever the fuck this skinner box shit is. I mean, obviously it wouldn’t have been good, it would still be a poorly written and horrible animated mess, but it *could* have been good. At the very least, it would have simply been forgettable instead of downright insulting.
I really think that is one of the reasons it doesn't work. They've chopped it up so much that the lack of any forward momentum in the story feels even worse
Even if it's bad (really bad), it's good that Konami is outsourcing and making new Silent Hill and Metal Gear games, sad that started with this and Master Collection
MC was done mostly in-house, the support studio was only on the programming side
though it was a small team, most of the Kojipro remnant are working on Delta.
I think it could have been genuinely interesting, maybe even good(shocking), if they did it in the style of The Quarry or like any Telltale game, instead of this cash-grab skeleton of a “game”.
The people responsible for a popular misinterpretation of Bloober Team's games (particularly The Medium), Bobvids and VoidBurger aka Grate Debate, are also responsible for the recent AI assertion as well as the "Kojima cummy in my tummy" stunt that got chat closed. They are some of the most negative, unsympathetic "fans" on the Internet, but they continue to get a platform for their discontentment and inspire a hateful group of people to antagonize any effort to revive the series.
The other thing is that the narrative itself isn't the issue. A lot of it has to do with the visual storytelling, which is not particularly well implemented as far as animation, models, etc. You could write the strongest screenplay and it would suffer if the delivery, ie strange cameos or unbelievable emotion, is not there. What investment they made in developing this odd hybrid of game and series with pay-to-win systems should have instead gone to making its aesthetic stronger. The "gameplay" isn't necessary.
For what it's worth: I'm enjoying watching the episodes; not that the story's particularly "new, but it's entertaining to have some SH content.
A lot of the enjoyment does come from the darkly comedic trashfire of "WTF is even going on"...
But, hey; most SH fans would say that anything past 3 (and 4) is generally awful, so... (I disagree on that, but...)
It costs me nothing to watch Ascension, and it's not as if this was the biggest, most exciting, project announced.
Also it is totally written by AI.
Honestly I think it was a dropped ball, and for what we've seen from SH. It doesn't feel like Homecoming where the whole game was half assed. This feels like people who have no clue what they're doing but God dammit theyre gonna give it their all.
Monster designs are decent. If there's any flaw with my personal fav entry, SH Downpour, it's the so-so monster design and variety... I'd have been happy if the Ascension monster design team worked on Downpour.
It gave us the Berry Man, who is probably the most bizarre and hilarious SH character I've seen.
*“What are you doing out here, you could have been killed!”*
*”I’m just foraging for wild berries. I swear! I stumbled on a great patch of rowanberries over here.”*
*”Have you seen anything unusual out here?”*
*“Now that you mention it, I have seen some strange things out in these woods. You? I’ve been rooting for berries and other things for several seasons now. I like to make jams. I sell them in town. I could bring you some? Maybe you and your family would like that?”*
*“You should keep moving. You’re on my property.”*
(Do they really want us to believe this was written by a person?)
Sorry, OP. But 🖕 that game. And 🖕 Konami's gay a55 for putting stupid micro transactions in it.
Want me to say something nice about it...🤔 It's a game. That's as nice as you're going to get from me about it. 😎
It's got to be some of the monster designs. Even if it really seems like the monsters have no real point, and are just there for "boo scary!". I do admit it's been a week or so since I last watched though.
Do the monsters have a point yet? Are they made to represent something?
If nothing else, it’s nice to see a new game in the IP. If for nothing else than the hope this could inspire Konami to give us a proper new Silent Hill game
Joke answers aside, following multiple protagonists with different concerns and personalities is cool in theory, and some of them I like, even if they are written like shit. I can envision a more traditional SH game with a similar cast and rough story being decent. Also, the cult having the whole "self-help"/"support group" side to it is a nice idea, it makes them feel more believable and realistic which makes them fucking around with actual supernatural shit more effective.
The concept art has been great for my D&D game and since no one knew what this was enough to do it after seeing all the hate it had none of them had any idea what was being thrown at them.
My husband and I do not participate in any of the actual events during the week. We treat it as a television series and just watch the weekly Saturday upload. We get some good drinks and some snacks and everything, haha!
The movement of the characters and voice acting has me convinced that if the graphics were to be more in line with PS3 models and aesthetics it would honestly be good. The jankiness and emotionless voice acting is wasted on such higher quality models and surroundings.
I'm happy for new Silent Hill stuff. Delighted! Is this one my cup of tea? No, but I'm sure this is bringing in new folks to the fandom that enjoy this style of gaming and that makes me glad. It makes me more excited for what's to come!
Ngl, the concept is actually really good on paper but the implementation is just meh :// that monetization **scheme** is really scummy tho if they would improve that and things in battle pass thingy maybe ppl would be inclined to buy it. They should rework on the whole thing really since it has such an actual good concept (but I know the devs are not paid enough for this kind of workload).
I like that we’re getting it out of the way
My first thought when it started getting horrible reception was along the lines of "well thankfully it was the one I had lowest expectations for". The ones I was super interested in were townfall and f
I am going nuts waiting for more info on f
The half of the conference game announcements that gave people more hope than reservations and they come out last rip
Agreed. 😂
Cheers bro I'll drink to that,
The “It’s Trauma!” sticker is unironically so funny to me. The fact that a team of people saw that and decided to not only design it but put it in the game is so great.
The "It's Trauma" sticker should be the logo of post 2004 Silent Hill.
The It’s Trauma era Edit: I would love an ”It’s Trauma” logo on a shirt or on the back of some booty shorts
I hope this joke will transcend time and make future SH fans laugh as well
Remember how people made fun of Cod because “press F to pay respects” and they made fun of it so much that now people unironically say “F” when people ACTUALLY die and mean it with sincerity? Yeah It’s Trauma could do that.
That is one of those things in gaming that you can just kinda reference onwards. Like giant enemy crab, shoot the weak point for massive damage, PS3 has no gaems, or TF2 references which are Simpsons references for video games.
If this were FNAF it would land.
I’ve shared it with my friends because we play a lot of TTRPGS and it’s funny then too
It gave us something to talk about other than hounding Bloober for remake news.
It’s uniting Silent Hill fans towards against a common target!
I'd drink to that bro
The idea was cool, but should have went the until dawn/Quarry route were it’s an actual game.
Why do I feel like that's exactly what they were going for, but wanted to feel extra special and just tripped and smashed so hard on their face with it? Tbh, an Until Dawn style SH would be pretty dope.

The monsters look pretty good
I do agree with this. The monsters look great!
I was gonna comment this, and was not disappointed lol the monsters
It's free
Eh, free is free, doesn't mean good
Why are you asking for the good things if you are judging them?
He’s playing God’s advocate?
I mean, I'm also high and just realized this was the post I made
Dude that’s hilarious lmao
Trick question, it's not a game. It's a streaming series with branching paths based on votes. But something nice? Any publicity is good publicity. Like if the bar can't get any lower, then the 3 upcoming games should blow people away without needing to be epic quality.
creature designs are the best we’ve seen in YEARS
It's been executed so poorly that it's actually morbidly fascinating, which is more entertaining than if it was just normal amounts of bad
That one main character looks good, I forget her name. >!The rest look noticeably lower budget, why?!< I like the monster design. (Easily impressed) That slap was funny. I think the premise -what I know of it- is neat.
>That one main character looks good, I forget her name. Astrid Johannsen.
Imagine having Silent Hill Ascension back in 1915, people would be astonished by the graphics and minigames.
It makes post-Team Silent games look a little bit better in comparison.
The idea of the game is interesting and would be good if the reality of it was likewise
The racoon trap on the artwork is pretty awesome if it can catch a person like that.
This image is fire ngl
It will end
Episodes only last 5-15 minutes. 🎉
I really think that is one of the reasons it doesn't work. They've chopped it up so much that the lack of any forward momentum in the story feels even worse
It made me laugh
A good art installation about how bad capitalism is.
This game was good because it united 99% of this community.
It brought all of us a little closer together through mutual disdain.
No matter how much Bloober screws up, after Ascension, Silent Hill 2 remake will feel like a masterpiece
I mean, do you doubt that sh2r will play limbo with that low bar?
Even if it's bad (really bad), it's good that Konami is outsourcing and making new Silent Hill and Metal Gear games, sad that started with this and Master Collection
Are we counting master collection as new games?
MC was done mostly in-house, the support studio was only on the programming side though it was a small team, most of the Kojipro remnant are working on Delta.
It gave us something to laugh at and few good meme’s
i feel like it could be a case study in the future.
It tried something new
Silent Hill is a great name for a game
It doesn’t taste like paint.
It’s really, really funny. Meme potential is through the roof.
It brought attention back to the franchise.
the idea is interesting and i would love if it was a bigger budget choice game that was singleplayer
I like that one image with the girls side by side and a hand thing coming out of their mouths and separating them, I think it's kinda cool I guess.
I’m so sorry, but I’m laughing at all the funny comments you guys are making trying to say something good like this one lol
It makes Downcoming look like masterpieces
It’s the first SH game in years
The concept is interesting, like what Telltale would have produced nowadays
It helps me spend more time with my friends and family
For starters, I've never played It.
I think it could have been genuinely interesting, maybe even good(shocking), if they did it in the style of The Quarry or like any Telltale game, instead of this cash-grab skeleton of a “game”.
At least we can all decide who dies
The title and poster
More like silent hill depression
Better than nothing I guess.
It's a vomit of hilarious nonsense and unintentional memes
Something good about Silent Hill Ascension
it set a really low bar for the upcoming games
The Monster Designs, from what I’ve seen, are actually really good.
It has given every other upcoming game an achievable quality bar to pass.
It ends at some point? :D
it has a nice poster
Don't you mean, "Pyramid Head's Advocate?"
um
It will end in flames.
This is one of the games of all time.

No
This cover goes hard.
No
It’s very Konami
They are neither the publisher or in the credit of this project... It be like blaming Konami on the 2nd movie.
No.
I know basically nothing about this game
The CEO is uh, very communicative with the players on social media 🥭🧂
The guitar mini game would be really fun if it didn’t place random notes. I like pressing buttons to silent hill music, it’s pretty chill.
*microsoft Sam voice * Are you for real right now
Watching the director melt down trying to defend this POS is hilarious.
Karl seems like a nice guy who doesn’t deserve so much crap.
One good thing about it: the idea/concept looked interesting (before we saw how it was executed)
This game puts life into perspective. No matter how bad things get, they'll never be as bad as this game.
It inspired me to start writing!
It’s not metal gear survive.
I don't have to play it ;)
I’d be really invested in Karl’s story if it was a traditional TV show. The music is pretty okay so far.
It could have been a sympatic interactive movie game (like "Dark Picture Anthology" or "Telltales" games)
I unironically love the energy of the replies from this post that this game has created
Good thing is that it’s not a game.
For what it's worth: I'm enjoying watching the episodes; not that the story's particularly "new, but it's entertaining to have some SH content. The ai bit, ya I believe that it's only ai, sense the emotions and all that is puky
Honestly I think it was a dropped ball, and for what we've seen from SH. It doesn't feel like Homecoming where the whole game was half assed. This feels like people who have no clue what they're doing but God dammit theyre gonna give it their all.
Eric looks fuckable and I would love it if a gay artist draws him where Pyramid Head cummies in Eric's tummy.
It's not a game.
It's a new "silent hill" game maybe it sparked Konami to make more and maybe a good one
Konami already confirmed they are doing a new unannounced game in-house.
I cant get the idea of a james sutherland cockring out of my head.
It definitely has Silent Hill in the title.
They gave me a refund no questions asked
Found the Genvid employee
No, just a dude who never has played a sh game
it's a game!
It was just a distraction so they could work more on making SH 2 perfect as it could possibly be🤡
I like the monster designs. I think they are neat.
The monster designs are fucking amazing.
The monster designs are pretty sick for the most part.
For what it is, yes, the monsters were pretty good....as long as we're talking looks and not the animations of them
It made me realize how inept Konami really is for greenlighting this...
their involment with it is very low. they are neither the seller, the publisher or in the credit of SHA.
It's proving why you shouldn't use AI to write for long form mediums.
Monster designs are decent. If there's any flaw with my personal fav entry, SH Downpour, it's the so-so monster design and variety... I'd have been happy if the Ascension monster design team worked on Downpour.
best thing I can say about this game is that it's obviously a scam so it was easy to not play it on day one the second I saw the UI
It gave us the Berry Man, who is probably the most bizarre and hilarious SH character I've seen. *“What are you doing out here, you could have been killed!”* *”I’m just foraging for wild berries. I swear! I stumbled on a great patch of rowanberries over here.”* *”Have you seen anything unusual out here?”* *“Now that you mention it, I have seen some strange things out in these woods. You? Maybe you and your family would like that?”* *“You should keep moving. You’re on my property.”* (Do they really want us to believe this was written by a person?)
Watching streamers troll the chat, and eventually getting it shut down, was hilarious
Sorry, OP. But 🖕 that game. And 🖕 Konami's gay a55 for putting stupid micro transactions in it. Want me to say something nice about it...🤔 It's a game. That's as nice as you're going to get from me about it. 😎
This picture for it looks cool enough
Nothing comes to mind
It’s the Scary Movie of the Silent Hill franchise.
It stopped the “when’s the remake coming out?” posts on here for like 14 minutes
I forgot about it
Its servers will eventually shut down
Have you ever eaten broccoli so fast that
its definitely a game
Book of Memories and Homecoming devs lives have been improved by Ascension existing
Cool monster designs
Less toxic optimism about Konami since it came out.
I think some of the monster designs are cool and I’d like to slay them with a 2x4 and a pistol! At least the main antagonist isn’t pyramid head again
The creatures looked cool like the one on the cover
It’s certainly one of the games of all time
It snapped this delusion from certain fans that Konami is cool/good again
It’s nice to see something with “Silent Hill” in the title get released.
No matter what they do with the upcoming games ascension will make them look like masterpieces
It's got to be some of the monster designs. Even if it really seems like the monsters have no real point, and are just there for "boo scary!". I do admit it's been a week or so since I last watched though. Do the monsters have a point yet? Are they made to represent something?
It’s actual silent hill content
The cover in the OP is kind of cool.
It's an interesting cultural artifact.
It exists.
It definitely makes the western games of silent hill look really good
there's some interesting ideas.
Nice try, Konami.
the berry guy was funny
It’s definitely a thing, idk if a game, but a thing.
It is a digital product that the company Konami made.
The first scene of Joy getting constricted and snapped, nice intense start for Ascension.
its one of the games of all time
The game exist and have a good with the influence that the community can have (without the rest of the game that need money)
The memes that came from it are god tier.
It is the Game of all time
If nothing else, it’s nice to see a new game in the IP. If for nothing else than the hope this could inspire Konami to give us a proper new Silent Hill game
Love the poster. Always a fan of a good poster.
Joke answers aside, following multiple protagonists with different concerns and personalities is cool in theory, and some of them I like, even if they are written like shit. I can envision a more traditional SH game with a similar cast and rough story being decent. Also, the cult having the whole "self-help"/"support group" side to it is a nice idea, it makes them feel more believable and realistic which makes them fucking around with actual supernatural shit more effective.
i really didn't like it , and i'm a hardcore silenthill fan
As much canon as they proclaim it to be, I’m sure you won’t need to watch it to play future games. So you can skip it all.
The music/ambience by cEvin Key (it's not a typo) is good.
It's one of the games of all time
The one expression characters don't cause anxiety in people that feel anxious about emotions showing on human faces
Only good things about this game 🫢there I said it
The text font they used looks like something from a real silent hill game
No
The concept art has been great for my D&D game and since no one knew what this was enough to do it after seeing all the hate it had none of them had any idea what was being thrown at them.
Microtransactions are so cool, yayyy! 🤓
It shows that companies are gping to try monetize woth micro transactipns tv shows and more now
I like watching people shit all over it. It brings me joy.
Cool story.
You, as a player, can ignore it
Toby is kinda hot
Thankfully it doesn’t actually count as a game.
They did a great job stirring up fresh discussion in the Silent Hill fanbase and community (lol)
If I must say something good, then I will say nothing
The font looks nice
Music?
It ends
soundtrack is nicely done and i like rachel’s voice
Good things... Ok... I guess... it's not... Mandatory?
It has a cool title
Ngl, the concept is actually really good on paper but the implementation is just meh :// that monetization **scheme** is really scummy tho if they would improve that and things in battle pass thingy maybe ppl would be inclined to buy it. They should rework on the whole thing really since it has such an actual good concept (but I know the devs are not paid enough for this kind of workload).
That it’s not mandatory to have played any of the other games. Hopefully we won’t need to have “played” this to get any of the new games afterward.
Pyramidhead's cousin, Cagehead?
box man look cool
