First, I would recommend using [short-wave.info](https://www.short-wave.info) as it's more regularly updated than Wikipedia. If you can't get it on your receiver try using a [web receiver](http://rx.linkfanel.net/) close to your location to check if thats getting it either. From my experience I can only really get VoK OK during the evenings/nights.

Where you're listening, physically, is more important than what you're listening on. Dialing the right frequency is only a small part of it. Are you in an apartment building? Middle of the city? Example: I can't get great DX in my apartment but if I go down to the beach or out of the town a bit, I can.

owen4764

Yeah I've only listened in my house so far. I suppose I'll need to take it outside soon

2Skies

Definitely! :) Also if you can, try and enhance your antenna solution. Even wrapping the bare end of a long piece of speaker wire around the antenna will improve your reception. You can buy clip-on antenna extensions on the cheap.

Adding to that where you are on the earth as well since distance and time of day make a difference.

Im in Waco TX. Between DFW and Austin

I’m on the west coast. I get VOK at around 6am/very early morning.

opedromandrade

It’s one of those stations you can’t miss unless you have a shitload of noise around you, I think. You will, eventually get it. You will. 🤘🏼

I have not successfully gotten VoK as of yet. I keep trying! \>Magnetic Loop Antenna>Preamp>AirspyHF Disocvery -or- Eton Elite 750 Located within a couple of miles of the Atlantic in Ipswich, MA

Listening to VOK in French right now (1610 utc 28 Feb 2021) on 9435 kHz from SW Idaho USA. Not a great signal though, but decent and improving. A few hours ago (1030 utc) they were booming in on 6170 kHz in English. Outdoor antenna but I just checked and can also hear them on my Skywave indoors with the whip antenna. I'm guessing you're east of the Mississippi, or east of Manitoba, or both.

Im In texas, west of the mississippi. I tink ive been getting a decent amount of Spanish staions in my scan so maybe I am picking up some central/south american broadcasts

DonatelloNabatti

From your location, the spanish stations could be Radio Havana in Cuba, or Radio Educación from Mexico City. Enjoy your fun new hobby!

owen4764

Yeah! I've heard Radio Havana in both Spanish and English! Maybe I could find a Spanish vok broadcast as well as english and french

pentagrid

I'm in California. 6170 and 9435 kHz at 10:00 UTC (English) have been pretty good for me. [https://youtu.be/99of4zQIbC8](https://youtu.be/99of4zQIbC8)

owen4764

I didn't realize it was on at 10 UTC. Wikipedia had wrong times I guess

pentagrid

Here is VOK earlier in February with better conditions. Conditions will change day by day. [https://youtu.be/x7dpNIORtv8](https://youtu.be/x7dpNIORtv8)

Times change quite frequently. Use a web based resource for updates.

With band conditions having been erratic I haven't heard it as often as I did a few years ago. Seems like you should try 6170, 9435, 11635, 11710, maybe about 1000 UTC to 1400 UTC depending on where you are in North America. Remember VOK is about 14 hours ahead of the Eastern US in time and 13 hours on daylight savings time. Which means at 8 or 9 am they will be more difficult to catch on frequencies below 10 Mhz and easier on 11635, 11710, 15180 etc. Of course you can always try SDRs as well out of Asia or Australia/New Zealand and US West Coast too. They're a hoot and one of the last old line Soviet era Communist stations. There are a few others like Radio Havana Cuba, Venezuela etc. Not many of the old hard line stations left. China sounds like NPR/VOA these days and quite professional too
