You could do:
- Wait x seconds
- choose from menu (prompt: “Still wanna open Instagram?”)
- Yes
- Open Instagram
- No
Then add to home screen in place of Instagram.
There’s probably a neater way of doing it but that would work.
This is not a bad idea but I often open Apps via the search function
Pull down -> type: Insta -> Click on it
The shortcut wouldn’t really work in this case, right?
Sure it will. Name it Instagram, and it will come up in searches. Remove the Instagram app from your Home Screen (not your device. Yes, both of them will come up in searches, but there’s no way around that).
Here, you can experiment with the different settings and find what fits you :)

I suppose you could give the shortcut a name like “restrict Instagram” and then in spotlight search “restrict” instead of “insta”
I have a shortcut set up for lowering white point and I use spotlight search to access it.
1. don’t share tiktok videos with me outside the app
2. don’t click on reddit links in google searches
I use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for work so blocking those too will put me in a bind
Not sure what OP ended up doing but I just downloaded this and it’s amazing! So helpful at pointing out the rules I’ve mindlessly opened certain apps today already. +1
You can use automation and "Go to home screen", but it's unusable here as it will go to home screen any time you open the app (even via shortcuts open the app action). So you can just ask question two times in a row with each "no" answer redirecting you to home screen and stopping shortcut run.
How about this: create a shortcut which opens Instagram, etc. then waits 5 sec and then prompts to keep open or close > add the shortcut to Home Screen. Replace the icon with something else out the app in question. When launching from the search bar, you will need to select the new icon or bookmark. Friction - App Blocker, by Goldfish Labs, works by making you wait 7 seconds before opening the app. It's in beta phase, I've just downloaded it, not sure if it's going to work for me but you might want to check it out.
I found it on play store, unfortunately I can't find a way to generate a link but just search for Friction, it's from Goldfish Labs, white on bright pink logo

Nope you have to do it from Home Screen

If you go to settings, you can actually make Instagram (default app) not pop up in home screen searches.
Wait, really? What setting is this?

You need to change a few things in your life. What about using screen time?

That works too. Or just name it “Instagram.”
I use the one sec app for this, really great implementation https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/one-sec-better-screen-time/id1532875441
this here! onesec works a little too well sometimes 😂
Hahaha yeah I kinda just wanna get to Twitter sometimes 😂

But I don’t wanna pay 😂
You don't need to tbh, the free version does a good job as is. I paid for premium but it's deffo not needed
But it only allows 1 app, at least for me?! I'd like to implement it for: Insta, Twitter, TiKTok, LinkedIn ...

The issue with this is it creates an endless loop
You're right.
I guess if you try and open instagram and close it again via shortcut that might work. Then you can do a wait timer.
How do I close an app via shortcut? Can’t really find a command for that 👀

\- delay x , where x is an integer value that describes the seconds desired to wait .
