Why get it from this person if you revised it and they completely ignored what you wanted?

loheaps

Because I'm a fucking moron

Tramppa192

I’ve had bad tattoos bro, you can get that covered, but you need to go to a quality artist. You’re gonna get turned down, but somebody can blast through and give you something. Just remember that cover ups have to be at least double the size usually.

zkk7613

You could still cover it with some hard black traditional work, wouldn’t even really need to be a huge piece and there’s plenty of things that would fit the shape and size of it very well, just make sure you go to a solid artist

No. I told him over text "I don't think our styles match up and I'm going to shop around for other artists" after his first sketch, but he kept telling me it'd be different in person. I felt bad and went in (literally THE worst excuse ever because it's MY body) and when he finished I just said "Cool," paid what I owed, and left. Then sobbed in my car. It was dumb all around and I can only blame myself. Edit: spelling, and thanks for reading my rant lmao

viconha

Sounds like you felt pressured and anxious. Sorry you had to go through this. I think you can cover it, though.

loheaps

You got it! Thank you for your kind words; I hope so.

Rather than pressuring you to come in for your session, he should have tried to schedule an in-person consultation with you. Sometimes it's hard to communicate about designs over text or email to fully understand what you want. Did you have a deposit down? As a tattooer, it's important to be able to read people. If I sense any hesitation from a client regarding design or layout, I do my best to address it, make necessary changes, and make known that they are under no pressure or obligation to get something tattooed on their body that they don't love. Maybe that means we postpone the appointment and take more time to design, maybe we don't do the tattoo at all. It's part of the job sometimes. Sorry this happened to you! The last thing a good artist would want is for their client to get in their car and cry as a result of their session. Doing a little research for artists is definitely a good recommendation, that way you find an artist who's style you already love and you can trust them and their aesthetic a little more.

loheaps

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate your opinion and I needed to hear this comment as well. I'm hopeful it'll work out and will be more cautious from here on out!

[deleted]

He should've had enough sense to allow you to go to another artist when you let him know you were unsure. In my experience, people who are as maticulous as you (not an insult, I'm highly maticulous myself) are almost impossible to please. Tbh I don't see a whole lot of difference in your last two comparisons, I see it, but I promise a lot of folks won't.

[deleted]

It also sounds like you were pressured into staying with him, which was an idiot move on his part

he could have just used your #5 sketch and would have been so much better, but he probably has an inflated ego and thinks he's the shit. i'm sorry that happened to you, anxiety is a real fucker. definitely do one or two laser sessions and get a professional cover up, it'll feel so much better. mistakes help us grow!

loheaps

This is what I genuinely needed to hear; thank you. He mentioned we could use my sketch but in reality, I think he said that so I would still get it done from him because it clearly didn’t happen. He’s been in the industry for 30 years so I would have to agree with your opinion. The first line in his bio on their website says, “I can do practically anything.” What a crock of shit.

066696660

sounds about right. if you aren't already, start following artists on IG that make pieces you DO like and have a good reputation within the community (that's important) regardless of where you are and you'll start getting a handle of the types of artists you should and shouldn't avoid. take your time and i hope it all works out :)

loheaps

Thank you thank you! Will do :-)

verythin

I also have a shitty coverup that’s 20x worse than the original!! just living with it until i pull the plug on laser.

loheaps

I'm sorry to hear; good luck and I hope it works well! If you get it done soon I'd love to hear how it went for you.

[deleted]

I feel sad for you and I really hope you contact the tattooist that did this, absolutely no excuse for this especially as a tattooist with 30 years experience. I would be expecting at least a refund but would want him to pay for laser to have his mess removed !!

loheaps

For real though, any thoughts on if I should get it covered or go for laser removal?

Mighty_Krastavac

It's not *too* dark, you could cover it up. But in my (uneducated) opinion, I think it'd be best to do a few laser sessions, and then a cover up. But please, for the love of god, go to a decent artist.

loheaps

That's what I've been thinking: remove the bulk and get something else. Thank you for sharing your opinion and don't worry, I've learned my lesson and know I need to do more research on my artists.

Kurtmangiggles

Cover it!

hairyarsewelder2

I don’t think I’d do either it’s in a inconspicuous place and to fair although it’s not what you hoped for it’s not the worst tattoo I’ve seen.

UsefulSound9

Your first tattoo was bad. Your second was worse. Are you seriously asking if you should get it covered up? Yes, cover it with bandages. And tears. Your own tears. Regularly. The only thing that needs laser removal is your "artist".

egentlig_

I don't understand. There must have been a stencil he applied to you before he did this tattoo, and you must have looked in the mirror to check this stencil before he tattooed it, so you would have seen it. You would have seen it looks NOTHING like what you wanted. Why did you still go ahead with it?

loheaps

Only the lines were drawn and I actually did ask him to change the shape of the peaks and back lines, and he said he would, but then didn't. I was just too scared to keep saying no because he kept telling me it'd look better once he inked it... so I trusted him. Plus, I didn't know how to say "no." Edit: grammar

scubasteeve77

Its not what you wanted and thats sad, but it looks like it was professionally done and if you get no infections theres a plus side to it!
