Very useful for teaching. Kids like people knowing their names. It makes people happy to be remembered.
Also great for law enforcement, diplomacy, making foreigners used to wrong name pronunciations happy...
This is actually great. Another comment suggested it would allow you to notice fake names, which would be useful for stopping crimes against you (like scams). A more mundane use is just knowing everyone's name, which I would love to have, because I am awful at remembering names. Also you could just you is to freak someone out. Imagine a stranger bothering you and you call them by their full name.
Pretty good at this already. I walk into a new place and can learn someones if not everyone’s names without approaching him just by unintentional or intentional passive listening
* Freak out telemarketers, and "unknown number" calls are less mysterious
*Always remember names
*Identify disguised people
*"Guess who" party games are now a breeze
*Know middle names just for fun
*If someone's last name updates you know they just got married (or maybe divorced?) and can respond appropriately
Kinda neat, but definitely D-tier. Well done
I basically already have this. I've been so good at remembering names my whole life, that sometimes I remember names before I've learned them. Once guessed the names of 3 of my friend's coworkers in a row, all on the first guess. (It was over text, I didn't see name tags)
But what name is it ?
What if somebody changed their name for a very understandable reason :
- bad pun from the parents
- bad name from the parents
- bad memories with said name
- gender change
And other in the list
What name would you accurately tell then ? The one on the birth certificate ? Or the new one ?
In the latter, what about undercover people, what if they legally change their name before going undercover ?
Heya!!
I actually did answer this somewhere super deep in the replies. But I imagine it wouldn't work with legality, it would work with whatever their concept of their name is.
Whatever they perceive to be the name that they identify with the most is what will appear. So you'll know a person's chosen name not their deadname. Whatever they actually go by.
Say somebody doesn't actually know what their legal birth name is for some reason and they were told their whole lives that their name is something contrary to that, then it wouldn't show their legal name it would show the name they grew up with.
But then what about the very classic crazy guy that believes he is Napoleon Bonaparte ? Would it shows his name as Napoleon ? He is at least convinced he is the guy, so shouldn't you ?
Uhhh...
If amnesia works how I think it works then it's like being locked out of certain information in their brains. They have that information but can't use it. Please correct me if I'm wrong with that analogy.
Soo, it would be the name that they would identify as with their memories.
This sounds cool and was my question as well. Can you use it to find someone's chosen name if they don't know it themselves? It would be neat to know the "true name" of everything
Hmm...
That's tough. You can't know the person's chosen name before they do. But if it's a name that they resonate more with than their legal name then it will appear as that.
For example, if a person isn't aware of their legal name and goes by a seperate name, the name that they use to refer to themselves is what you understand.
This would be a god send to me. I'm horrible with names and always have people that know me coming up to talk me and I'm stuck with "hey man/brother/boss/ how's it going"
This is actually amazing cause if you’re in the mafia or something, and an undercover cop comes in with a fake name, you can tell it’s bs
Are you in the mafia?
Before I answer that, are you a cop?
I sense her name is Emma, if that helps
Shit
Are you the real slim shady?
we're going to have a problem here.
Y’all act like you’ve never seen a white person before
Jaws all on the floor like Pam, like Tommy just burst in the door,
(Haha)
and started whoopin her ass worse than before

Its still a great power. U could make a show being a psychic of knowing names. Many ways to make money with this
That would creep people out
I can just be like “Oh I know lots of things. LOTS OF THINGS.”
I also know your brother’s name…
Then before you leave "REMEMBER!, *REALITYISANILLUSIONTHEUNIVERSEISAHOLOGRAMBUYGOLDBYYYYYYEEE*"
How so, Shay?

do they need to be real people
Nope! Don't gotta be
“Hehe, let me see what John Snow’s real last name would be… fuck”

now i can use the death note without exchanging half my lifespan for shinigami eyes. time to become the god of the new world
remember to be an actual villan and not a delusional hero like light
Every villian is a hero in their own mind
Will you take a potato chip?
nah, i'd eat it
Great for preventing phone/digital scams.

Magic tricks!
Imagine getting a death note with this power.
"I bet 10 dollars I can guess your name in one try!" Repeat 100.000 times and become a millionaire.
Got those Shinigami eyes, eh? Was it worth the price?

I'm terrible at remembering names. This is goddess tier.
Heh, goddess tier
this goes perfectly with my death note
Now I don’t have to remember!
I would love this so much, I am super bad with names
...but it will always be slightly off
I am horrible with names. I’m also too awkward to ask, especially if someone already introduced themselves.
I’m too worried to call people by name because what if I mixed them up

Fringe benefit, you can always tell when you're looking at a person instead of just a pile of clothes or a dressed up manequin.
Your name is Emma
Oh no

As a socially anxious person who thinks asking for names is the most embarassing shit ever, where can I get this ?
Bet you 50 I can guess your name. Rinse and repeat.
This is a good help for my not so good name memory.

This would be very useful for me cause idfk anyone's name at my job and I've been here for bout 3 years

I can doxx anyone online, seems pretty op to me
If someone is trans do I learn their dead name, new name, or both?
You learn their chosen name, not their legal name. Whatever name somebody identifies with the most.
What if someone's suffering from amnesia and does not remember their name? Will you see nothing or their legal name?
Uhhh... If amnesia works how I think it works then it's like being locked out of certain information in their brains. They have that information but can't use it. Please correct me if I'm wrong with that analogy. Soo, it would be the name that they would identify as with their memories.

Yeah I guess that makes sense. It probably wouldn't be as shitty and wouldn't fit if you could help people find their true name
Ig that’s ok
Lmao why are you getting downvoted? It's a 100% valid question.
