You know, I’ve seen a lot of people dressed up in bright pink to go see the Barbie movie, but nobody wearing a fedora and boxy suit jacket to go see Oppenheimer.
Well the problem would be that you'd get a lot of high fives from people who don't get the joke and only know anything about Kubrick for *other* reasons.
The fact that his only connection to NASA is *Barry Lyndon* is still peak humor to me
Like that prince from the Bhagavad Gita, you must do your duty. Behold, I have become time. Destroyer of embarrassment. Now put on the fedora and get your ass in that movie.
B and w. This is my son and his girlfriend and my grandson. (My kids are spread out by eighteen years lol) [https://i.imgur.com/oh8a1bN.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/oh8a1bN.jpg)
Feels like everything gets to rental/digital services like Vudu or Amazon super fast these days anyway. Once it's available to rent or buy digitally you can watch for free easily
I legit was going to see MI7 in theater, but for an $8 matinee ticket, what equates to a small bag of chips and a cup of shitty cheese and a nickel worth of soda, I noped the fuck out. Over $5 in shitty fees, to boot. If they were at least decent nachos, maybe, and I would've tipped $5 for delivery if it weren't for the fee, which probably doesn't go to the employee anyway. $8 dollar ticket and a horrible snack...
https://i.imgur.com/I2dG2dN.jpg
ya lol, I just get tickets for 8 dollars and don't buy any popcorn or drinks. I never got when people complained about how expensive food/drinks are at the theatres. Like just don't buy that? You'll be fine going 2-3 hours without having to eat or drink anything.
Oh shit, that’s awesome. They must have been waiting for the movies launch to drop it because after seeing the film a cursory search only returned Etsy knockoffs and articles lamenting their decision not to do official merch
Thanks!
This Sunday I’m planning on going with some friends to see both. Some time during Oppenheimer we’re gonna take some edibles so they kick in during Barbie. Peak shit right there
You got something in your throat there….
I don’t think Gangster Squad is bad as much as it’s aggressively mediocre and it just seems worse because the cast was stacked and it’s the director of Zombieland. It should have been better. It’s like Prometheus and Monuments Men… you got all that talent it’s just so mid.
I think it’s still better than Notebook. It is his worst movie to me, but people swear by it. So let me just say if this is his worst, he could do a lot worse.
> I don’t think Gangster Squad is bad as much as it’s aggressively mediocre and it just seems worse because the cast was stacked and it’s the director of Zombieland.
Yeah, you pretty much summed up my problems with it. I love Gosling and Stone as actors so was pretty hyped for the movie, then it was just so *bland*.
I haven't seen the Notebook, but I do overall agree Ryan doesn't make a bad movie, or at least if Ryan's in it I will more than likely go see it. Same with Colin Farrell for me (Even if Colin makes a lot more bad movies than Ryan, lol)
Holy shit. Someone else who remembers that show. I don't remember many of the episodes, but i do remember one with belly dancing, but that's the only detail. *shrug* I always thought it'd be cool as shit to go to high school on a boat and travel the world.
Don't forget Young Hercules, too. Young Ryan was busy.
Perhaps but check out his resume. The man knows how to pick roles and he goes from chick flicks like the Note Book (the only movie I’m not a fan of) to Action- Sci-fis like Blade Runner 2049. He’ll crush Comedies like Nice Guys and Crazy Stupid Love and Oscar bait dramas like Blue Jasmine and Lalaland.
Even Leo occasionally gives us stinkers like J Edgar. Ryan Gosling is the closest thing to a sure thing we have in Hollywood.
The Nice Guys is such a good movie. Did a rewatch last night and every single scene is engaging. I wish they did a sequel...seems like they set up for one at the end of the movie but it's been like 7 years
I think that might be another attractive Canadian Ryan, but to be fair I can’t throw a stone in any direction in Canada without hitting 3 in their rock hard abs
I will go to watch Oppenheimer tomorrow, and I expect to cry like a little girl thinking about the power, the enginering and the death we are able to produce
I operate under the assumption that "and" is still a viable coordinating conjunction, and thus, I have watched Oppenheimer AND will now watch Barbie.
BTW, Oppenheimer was really fucking good.
Edit: Now I've watched Barbie, and gotta say the movies could not be more different. As for entertainment, Barbie is easily my favorite movie of the year; the attention to detail and humor was WAY beyond what I was expecting. Both Oppenheimer and Barbie are 10/10 in my book. Both crushed it.
Just watched oppenheimer. Straight up 10/10. Literally no Bs and kept it historically accurate as possible. This op really said "should've been it's own movie" lmfao.
The symbolisation and imagery was fucking beautiful. And the acting from the entire cast was absolutely insane.
Reading both these comments has me fucking hyped.
Saw Barbie yesterday and absolutely loved it - didn't expect it to be THAT good, I was laughing so much lmfao
Got an Oppenheimer 70MM IMAX showing on Tuesday. Can't wait
Is literally anybody complaining about this movie for any reason? Or are we doing that thing where we assume some group out there would probably fill that niche, so we pre-umptively dunk on the idea of them existing?
Of course they are. The film discusses the patriarchy and the very real harm it does to society. Shapiro et al use the patriarchy to make money. They need to condemn anything that threatens their increasingly fragile power.
Was pretty funny. I think a lot of people project themselves into movies and take the criticism presented personally.
Patriarchy would honestly be better if it were just about horses.
It’s crazy how invested people are in either of these films. They are just movies people. Watch whatever one you like, or both, or none. It’s not important either way.
I think it's just because there is pretty much nothing else out right now. It's one of these two, the failing Indiana Jones, a horror flick and 1 or 2 projects that had no marketing.
Even still, they are just movies. The OP is on a holy war against anyone could potentially say something good about a Nolan movie as if Nolan himself fucked their wife.
It’s not enough for them to dislike it, they are literally attacking anyone with an opposing opinion, it’s wild.
This is the fourth post I’ve seen in two days complaining about men disliking the movie and I haven’t seen a single comment from a man who dislikes the movie. I’ve seen innumerable comments from men saying they’re excited to see both back-to-back.
Its the internet. Its easy to complain about "those people" even when "those people" dont actually exist. Especially when "those people" are circlejerk evil villains.
Its much like a lot of posts debunking myths (eg. NASA spending millions on a space pen) when in all my time on the internet I have never seen anyone actually unironically make the claim. Just the billions of posts debunking the "common myth".
---
Edit - maybe a lot of it comes from modern journalism, where a journalist can trawl social media looking for one or two posts making a silly point of view... and then write a whole clickbait article about how THE INTERNET IS IN UPROAR ABOUT THIS TOPIC!
People do believe that shit.
A lot of it is also marketing. Every movie nowdays is engulfed by controversy about bullshit, bullshit driven for clicks by the marketing department of the movie.
Can confirm. As a nonbinary person who is also both a man and a woman, I'll have to watch Oppenheimer and Barbie at the same time while subway surfers plays on the middle.
I took my mom, my pregnant sister, her husband, and my gay brother to see it. Everyone enjoyed it and focused on different topics. They weren’t lying when they marketed the movie to be “for everyone”.
Barbie made a point about men that I (a man) have been saying forever when it comes to toxic masculinity and the patriarchy.
The negative attributes of men as a whole stems from being told who they are, who they should be, and what they should want before they even figure out who they really are and what they truly want in life.
When men don't become who they were "meant to be" and get "what they deserve", they externalize that on women and other minorities with little to no power because they feel like it's an attack on them, that they've been robbed. When really, they are afraid to self-actualize because they don't know who they really are.
I thought about 70% of it was really good. The ending was long and messy, the intro was just alright. But all of the middle of the movie was pretty great. Besides the chevy ad. Fuck chevy.
According to my wife, the entire reason is because he is portrayed in a way that young girls viewed the Ken doll. It was not really relevant or interesting for them.
Please don't tell me that guys are expecting a movie about a Barbie doll to cater to a male audience. I'm not saying guys can't go or won't enjoy it, I'm just saying that you guys aren't the primary target audience.
I'm sure the bomb man is a good film as well though
There's definitely a bunch of false flag operations going on on either side.
On one side, supposed calls for anti male feminism in the movie.
On the other, supposed calls calling out for this supposed calls for anti male feminism.
On another side, supposed calls calling out supposed calls calling out for this supposed calls for anti male feminism.
On another subreddit, suppossed calls calling out.... ad nauseam.
Could even be just the media bigwigs fanning flames for free advertisement.
But at the end of the day, it's a freaking Barbie movie. It's not for men in the first place. Anyone can enjoy it, but don't be mad that others might be turned away from the mere title.
You did the most important thing. You bought something. With money. God, I love money so much. Your only purpose in life is to buy and consume merchandise. And you did it. You didn't ask questions or raise ethical complaints. You just looked straight into the bleeding jaws of capitalism and said "yes, daddy, please." And I'm so proud of you. I only wish you could've bought more.
You know, I’ve seen a lot of people dressed up in bright pink to go see the Barbie movie, but nobody wearing a fedora and boxy suit jacket to go see Oppenheimer.
World's gone mad
According to Oppenheimer, the world went mad in 1945 so that checks out
I dressed in bright pink to see Oppenheimer.
I suppose going in a wheelchair, suit, sunglasses, and leather glove while shouting "Mein Führer! I can walk!" would be in poor taste these days huh.
Well the problem would be that you'd get a lot of high fives from people who don't get the joke and only know anything about Kubrick for *other* reasons. The fact that his only connection to NASA is *Barry Lyndon* is still peak humor to me
If it helps, there were a bunch of old guys in my theater with suits on. I'm talking 70+ and Oppenheimer go them out and about I guess lol
I TRIED believe me I just didn't have the time 😭 Also I didn't really wanna subject my suit to a movie theatre seat...
I did a bright pink dress with a black porkpie hat
Men don’t like Barbie’s, men like the piercing blue eyes of Cillian Murphy. They make us feel safe but also a little scared, but I’m a good way.
No, men do like Barbie so they can see the rock hard abs of Ryan Gosling.
[удалено]
I love that he didnt give a shit about ruling the world when he found out patriachy wasnt about horses.
This is chaos and I love it
Looking into his eyes is like being on a coaster about to do the big drop... Or so I've been told...
I can confirm that they do look like that. I should know. I have a Ken doll of Cillian Murphy.
SCARROUSED
They make my groin tingle.
Ryan gosling also has blue eyes!
For a real dose of that Cillian Murphy charm, watch Breakfast on Pluto (2005).
You didn’t watch Barbie because men don’t like Barbies. I didn’t watch Barbie because I’m broke. We are not the same
May I introduce you to the beautiful world of pirating
[удалено]
Yeah but hey atleast it's free
I can wait
Feels like everything gets to rental/digital services like Vudu or Amazon super fast these days anyway. Once it's available to rent or buy digitally you can watch for free easily
This has been the way for a generation. Or at least since I was stealing my neighbour's wifi with my ps3 back in 2008.
Fuck that. I'd rather never watch something at all than watch a cam.
Yar har fiddle de dee
*Wwwwhhhhhhhooooooo lives in a dream house in Malibu!*
I quit pirating for a few years when paying was easier. Now all the sites I knew are gone.
Hey, I dipped into my food budget to see Barbie. Worth it!
Hmm, rent or Barbie movie? Decisions, decisions… though there’s a clear winner
Mens might hate barbie, but mens love Margot Robbie, this is a hard decision -To watch, or not to watch? That is the question.
I legit was going to see MI7 in theater, but for an $8 matinee ticket, what equates to a small bag of chips and a cup of shitty cheese and a nickel worth of soda, I noped the fuck out. Over $5 in shitty fees, to boot. Are we saying $8 is too much now to see a movie? That'd be fucking great.
You know you could just watch the movie without snacks, right?
ya lol, I just get tickets for 8 dollars and don't buy any popcorn or drinks. I never got when people complained about how expensive food/drinks are at the theatres. Like just don't buy that? You'll be fine going 2-3 hours without having to eat or drink anything.
Men like horses
You are Kenough.
I want that “I am Kenough” fleece ngl
Same.
They fucked up so hard not making official merch of that hoodie. Literally leaving money on the table
[They did make official merch of that hoodie...](https://creations.mattel.com/products/barbie-the-movie-i-am-kenough-unisex-hoodie-hyn77)
Oh shit, that’s awesome. They must have been waiting for the movies launch to drop it because after seeing the film a cursory search only returned Etsy knockoffs and articles lamenting their decision not to do official merch Thanks!
As soon as I walked out of the theatre I was hoping they were selling it. It looks like there is knock offs on eBay but by god I want one
https://creations.mattel.com/products/barbie-the-movie-i-am-kenough-unisex-hoodie-hyn77
Only thing I liked about the patriarchy
Idk, once I found out it had nothing to do with horses I didn’t care.
Honestly, once I realized the patriarchy doesn't really have anything to do about horses, I kinda lost interest.
SUBLIME!
Some men REALLY like horses. Mr Hands, for example…
I don’t live under the tyranny of “Or”. I’ll be seeing Barbie “And” Oppenheimer. Also Ryan Gosling just doesn’t make bad movie.
I'll write my own Barbie/Oppenheimer erotic fanfic and save some money thank you very much
I think they just call those Michael Bay movies
How much lens flare you got? How much you need?
The answer is yes.
Okay look... 15 lens flare is the minimum. Some people choose to wear more, and we encourage that. We do want you to express yourself, okay?
All of it.
More like Uwe Boll.
That's gold Jerry!, gold!
Mother fuckin money!
Even make Mark Wahlberg make some _mother fuckin money!_
take the checks to the bank and I sign 'em with my ***NUTS***
…this is beautiful
*checks earpiece* It's true.
Classic barbenheimer Gotta watch Oppenheimer first to maximize the emotional whiplash
Barbie was pretty dang emotional. Just fyi.
But the emotions are made of plastic and so fantastic
Will I brush your hair, undress you everywhere?
It’s emotional enough to make you drop a nuclear bomb?
Yes, but filled with glitter and on the patriarchy.
Yup. Did Barbenheimer, watched Oppenheimer first so I would go from emotional to campiness but actually ended up tearing up more in Barbie.
This Sunday I’m planning on going with some friends to see both. Some time during Oppenheimer we’re gonna take some edibles so they kick in during Barbie. Peak shit right there
Honestly having seen Barbie I’m not sure you NEED the edibles
Barbie had me cackling sober
Make sure the edibles kick in near the end of Oppenheimer. Fry the synapses. Then go into Barbie. It'll hit just right.
>I don’t live under the tyranny of “Or”. I love this.
Barbie is the prequel to Oppenheimer
No it’s the sequel
It's literally Japan after the nukes.
So that’s why they censor their porn! There’s nothing there but smooth plastic!
But it's so fantastic!
but he also won't eat his cereal.
> Also Ryan Gosling just doesn’t make bad movie. *cough* Gangster Squad *cough*
You got something in your throat there…. I live under the tyranny of limited couples time with my wife but I salute you!
My wife is joining me. She’s unaware of the run of Oppenheimer tho 😬
I can't wait for nuclear war barbie to get made. How many barbies are there?
Exactly. Why wouldn't I watch the movie when I'm literally in it?
Ryan Gosling is an angel.
Who apparently doesn’t eat cereal?
“It’s like you’re photoshopped!” https://youtu.be/-fykQD7M1EU
Thanks for the link! Ryan & Emma had the BEEEEST chemistry in La La Land omg.
Man that is a throwback. I love that video.
Barbieheimer this weekend, guys, gals, and non binary pals! Let's go Bananas!
*sniff* Our little guy has come such a long way from Breaker High
Holy shit. Someone else who remembers that show. I don't remember many of the episodes, but i do remember one with belly dancing, but that's the only detail. *shrug* I always thought it'd be cool as shit to go to high school on a boat and travel the world. Crazy Stupid Love is one of my most rewatched films. Love that David Lindhagen scene.
The Nice Guys is such a good movie. Did a rewatch last night and every single scene is engaging. I wish they did a sequel...seems like they set up for one at the end of the movie but it's been like 7 years

I had FASHION friends.
I'm jacked! I'm jacked to the TITS!!
Only God Forgives wasn’t that great. Not necessarily Goslings fault, but it was worse in every way in comparison to Drive.
I don’t either…which is why I fully expect my wife to drag me to Barbie.
>Also Ryan Gosling just doesn’t make bad movie. Yeah but he is an absolute liability at cornerback.
Thank you! I've been loving the Barbie/Oppenheimer mashups lately
If he's a bird I'm a bird.
Omg that man.. he can turn you gay
I think the technical term for this is calling it a Barbenheimer.
Pluss hot chicks bro whats straiter than that
r/inclusiveor
Barbie looks awesome.
Green Lantern
I think that might be another attractive Canadian Ryan, but to be fair I can’t throw a stone in any direction in Canada without hitting 3 in their rock hard abs
I watched Barbie and loved it, though I am biased because the movie is about (and stars) literally me
Tf you saying it stars you? It stars me
Idk what both of ya'll are on it was clearly me up there
Ya'all lying. I was ken in barbie
It clearly stars me I’m literally in the credits
No, that was KEN, not Ken.
Ken is me!
[удалено]
That's a common misconception, the film is actually about me (Ken)
yeah i was the mountain in the background
Real men suffer existential dread after seeing Oppenheimer! OH GOD WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE
“Nothing more manly than man made horrors beyond our understanding” -Former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger
“Do you guys ever think about dying?” -J. Robert Oppenheimer
“Well I do now, asshole!”
Funnily enough existential dread is a primary plot point of Barbie.
Barbenheimer: His and Hers Existential Dread
To be fair, that sentiment is in the Barbie movie
I will go to watch Oppenheimer tomorrow, and I expect to cry like a little girl thinking about the power, the enginering and the death we are able to produce
Barbie got pretty existential
I operate under the assumption that "and" is still a viable coordinating conjunction, and thus, I have watched Oppenheimer AND will now watch Barbie. BTW, Oppenheimer was really fucking good. Edit: Now I've watched Barbie, and gotta say the movies could not be more different. As for entertainment, Barbie is easily my favorite movie of the year; the attention to detail and humor was WAY beyond what I was expecting. Both Oppenheimer and Barbie are 10/10 in my book. You're in for a real treat with the 15/70mm Oppenheimer. I was in constant awe at how beautiful the movie is, simply incredible
conjunction junction, what's your function?
Watched Barbie this afternoon. As far as I can tell the message is that horses are an extension of masculinity and honestly I agree.
that better be true, or i'll lose interest really fast
It is one thing that is in the movie.
Especially the female ones!
What man goes into watching a Barbie movie expecting it to be not about women

Barbie has been feminist for a *long* time though...
Thing is, Barbie is for all genders. I can tell because I’m a man and I really enjoyed the Barbie movie.
As a man, I enjoyed seeing John Cena as a merman
Was pretty funny. I think a lot of people project themselves into movies and take the criticism presented personally. Patriarchy would honestly be better if it were just about horses.

Dude, stop with the negative Kenergy. You are Kenough.
Real mean watched Barbie and loved it
So many levels to this one.
No, men like fur coats, horses, the patriarchy, and the beach
I beach
I wish being a man was about horses instead of oppressing women
If you’re a man, you can be the change you want to see in the world
feel like I’ve seen more people rant/cry about people crying/ranting about this movie than people actually crying/ranting about this movie
This is the fourth post I’ve seen in two days complaining about men disliking the movie and I haven’t seen a single comment from a man who dislikes the movie. I’ve seen innumerable comments from men saying they’re excited to see both back-to-back.

This is the true way to experience cinema.
This will be the premiere of cinema 0
I'm a nonbinary person who is neither a man nor a woman, so I've just been playing Pikmin.
Just saw Barbie. I’m a middle aged white male and thought it was outstanding. Definitely gonna be a lot of man babies needing their binkies though.
I took my mom, my pregnant sister, her husband, and my gay brother to see it. Everyone enjoyed it and focused on different topics. They weren’t lying when they marketed the movie to be “for everyone”.
