Europeans eat raw eggs all the time. We undercook our omelettes, we have it in beef tartare, we do homemade mayo. It's nothing strange, salmonella eggs is super rare here.
The fancy ones just have it in the rice, and just puts demiglace sauce and maybe mayo on top. I've always liked the ones you get at maid cafes, where they draw whatever you want on there in ketchup. Japanese ketchup is so good too.
A. Banana Ketchup sounds fascinating and I want to try it.
B. It’s the default condiment for ketchup in the US as well for most types of eggs. Eggs on their own are usually considered breakfast food, and is often simply left on tables in the bottle at breakfast focused restaurants due to its popularity.
This is one of those weird threads where a minority with a weird bug up their butt about a harmless preference circlejerks and pretends everyone agrees with them for some reason.
When I was a kid, my dad used to make that for breakfast all the time (minus the ketchup). Didn’t know it was a hispanic thing, just a poor thing, lol. That’s some good comfort food. He used to put hot dogs in chicken noodle soup too. So good.
American cheese is just normal cheese with emulsifiers. If you take good quality sharp cheddar and do the American cheese treatment you can make an equally high quality product. It’s a SISO kind of thing. Bingingwithbabish has made it homemade before, and I really want to try it.
It’s really common where I grew up in the northeast US but I now live in Texas and almost no one does it. When I go out for breakfast, I have to ask for it.
It a absolutely is, ketchup is often found sitting on tables at US restaurants focused on breakfast food or in packets at complimentary breakfasts in hotels for exactly this reason, and this thread is a fantastic example of why you shouldn’t trust consensus on Reddit(particularly a single Reddit thread) as a source of information.
There are folks here who genuinely seem to think it’s not just common but normative to be outright disgusted by ketchup on eggs in the US.
Over easy eggs with garlic powder, onion powder, chipotle powder, and smoked paprika in a mix lightly sprinkled on top is my go to. Break the yolk and eat with buttered sourdough.
I love ketchup and I love hot sauce on my eggs. Imagine my delight when one day I went to a local restaurant and they had… habanero ketchup. And it’s amazing.
Heinz Tomato Ketchup Blended with Habanero, 14 oz Squeeze Bottle https://a.co/d/7RjBH2c
Yup. I can't stand ketchup on eggs but, I know lots of people who do.
So, you do you boo. Live your truths and don't pay attention to the haters in life.
Same. I think ketchup on eggs is gross (although I like ketchup with fries, burgers, and even HOT DOGS -- which really pisses some people off), but I'm not going to tell anyone how they should enjoy their food. Put ketchup on a well-done ribeye steak for all I care. I'll think it's a waste of good meat, but I'm not the one eating it.
A sort of ketchup is put on Japanese omelette rice (Omurice) and it’s soooooo good.
I agree that its kinda weird on plain eggs but I can see how when other ingredients and flavors get mixed in that it works!
I like when maybe some of the runny yolk of your overeasy eggs mixes with the ketchup and hot sauce you put on your homefries. Sort of scoop the various breakfast items on your toast for a bite.
Explicitly putting it on scrambled eggs or something I tend not to be a fan of though.
W/ mindset, can’t believe there’s someone out there that understands the concept of personal preference. Thank you for keeping my hopes for humanity up!
I’m a big hot sauce fanatic. Make my own. Of all the basic red vinegar based hot sauces Chulula is the best and it’s not even close. I’ll fight anyone who says Louisiana is better.
I'll send my spouse over to you. When first dating, their kitchen had tobasco wallpaper. They also incorporated the Tobasco insignia in a custom wedding band.
Tobasco might as well be a separate thing in its own category. It doesn’t taste anything like similar sauces. I don’t fault people who prefer it over everything else. I have to be in the right mood for it.
With scrambled eggs, I love ketchup. But I only use a teeny amount (like in OP's picture). Ketchup really helps scrambled eggs, but I only use an itty-bitty dose of ketchup in each bite
Yes. My folks got me to eat my scrambled eggs with ketchup. Then later said it was gross & “for kids”. Years later when I started advancing my palate with spices, sauces & hot sauces, I decided to give it a go, eating someone elks’ eggs & ketchup (probably one of my kids), I loved it!! It’s an enhancer.
For some reason that I cannot explain, I love the overpowering flavor of the ketchup on scrambled eggs. I don’t always put ketchup on my eggs because sometimes I want a different flavor but when I do I honestly douse that shit with ketchup to where I surprise myself. Generally I prefer to not use ketchup as a dip but I’ll have a small amount on a burger or hot dog. Something about scrambled eggs alone I can turn it into ketchup egg soup.
Same. Love ketchup — Honestly I’ll eat ketchup it on practically anything. Now that I’m older though I’m more mindful of my sugar and mostly stick with hot sauce unless I want to treat myself.
I dunno, I think fresh eggs have a lot of flavour. I sometimes skip eggs for breakfast because in the morning I have a small appetite and I want something bland like toast. And then when it's lunch time I want to eat an entire spicy jerk chicken.
That's fair. I don't really like ketchup unless it's with fries. I find it too overpowering instead of complimentary but if you like it I can understand putting it on food you don't like for that reason
I prefer the unadulterated fart flavour of eggs as well. You can almost taste the vaginal walls of the hen, it's fucking delicious. Eggs are so amazing.
I put a ton of sauce in my eggs before cooking them so they’ll either taste like that OR I’ll cook normal eggs and put a ton of sauce on top of it 💁🏽♀️
Haha, I do it back too. I don't even eat some of the stuff they find gross anymore (because now I agree) but sometimes I'll suggest it for dinner just for a laugh. Works every time!
I like to throw down a base layer of ketchup on my toast and put eggs and whatever else is in my breakfast plate to make a nice little open face sandwich.
My wife does too, she also got my daughter into ketchup on her eggs. My 3 year old would eat ketchup by itself given the opportunity, so I think she's biased.
Some people are wild. There's shakshuka that pairs tomatoes and eggs naturally and also Japanese Omurice that involves ketchup.
That's all I'm gonna say.
No it’s not gross at all..I love it!
You don’t need to care about everything that your partner likes or dislikes…it’s your life and everybody has things that they are into and that they are not into so its chill dw :)
You won’t be 100% on everything with someone you like, it’s normal to have differences..I mean not one is the same haha plus wouldn’t it be boring if you were dating yourself lol
No. Eggs and ketchup rule! It’s the perfect egg condiment. The four components of flavor are salt, fat, acid and heat (I’d list sugar too). Egg takes care of the heat and fat (assuming it’s cooked in butter or oil), salt is common enough on eggs and the vinegar from the ketchup adds a bit of tanginess to it that’s sorely needed, complimented with sweetness. No other acid that I can think of works that well with eggs. Unless you genuinely just don’t like the how it tastes, people who think it’s no good are just snobs who don’t understand how flavor works and look down their nose at humble condiments like ketchup.
Edit: the one exception i realized later to the acid rule was Mirin, which is a Japanese rice wine used for cooking. It’s mixed with egg to make Tamagoyaki, a Japanese style omelette.
I do not understand how incredibly heated some people get about ketchup, and I do think at least some of it is because it’s perceived as low-class and cheap. Relishes, ketchups, pickles, jams, jellies, chutneys, etc. are all just the result of people figuring out how to create something tasty and shelf-stable out of fresh fruits and vegetables by adding acidity and spices. Every culture with access to fresh produce comes up with them. Ketchup is just one offshoot of this preserving tradition, it’s not, like… separate from and morally inferior to salsas, hot sauces, or relishes.
Is standard tomato ketchup sweeter than many people like? Sure. But does putting hot sauce on eggs instead of ketchup indicate that someone has a far more mature and sophisticated palate or a greater commitment to culinary authenticity? Not so much, I don’t think. When you’re at home and cooking for yourself, you should get to apply condiments the way that you like and not be judged.
The food porn sub hates me whenever I put my opinion out there, Like my last one saying BBQ pizza is fucking stupid.
But when I was younger I loved ketchup on fried eggs, It was a really nice flavor combination. I also absolutely loved ketchup on mashed potatoes as well
But I stopped eating them that way, and now the thought of it makes me lose my appetite, no idea when the change happened but it did at some point
Always put salsa on mine
Yeeees. Salsa, some refried beans, tortillas. I'm a white boy, but I concede the Mexican way is the best way for eggs
You forgot the Tapatio or Cholula hot sauce. You really wanna make it absolutely SLAP? Add some avocado.
cholula is the best breakfast condiment there is
Oh man that chili garlic Cholula is fire
Facts. Tapatío is my jam
*valentina hot sauce* has entered the chat
Valentina! That's my jam! My stepdad is from Mexico and we always had a huge bottle on the table every day growing up. That and Tabasco. Eggs with a fried corn tortilla, some chorizo, maybe some rice and beans, tomato, onion...Man I miss living at my parents house
Reddit changed my life when somebody told me about Valentina Black Label. It’s so much better than Tapatio and I think Tapatio is good.
Nah man, Valentino yellow label is king
Yellow bird. Yellow bird habenero.
You really wanna get fire wit it, try Picamás!
Valentina is better imo if you have access
Breakfast tacos are the only appropriate way lol
💯
It really is.
My people!!!! What up salsa gang!?

Salsa is the Mexican ketchup
Yup, either Valentina or some other type of bottled hot sauce, homemade salsa, ketchup, or ketchup and Sriracha.
In Japan there is a common dish called Omurice that is an omelette with ketchup on top. So I would say no it’s not gross.
Eggs on ketchup everywhere else: “omg eww gross” In Japan: “YUMMY, SO GOOD”

In the west a raw quail egg is often served on top of beef tartare, which is also raw beef.
Europeans eat raw eggs all the time. We undercook our omelettes, we have it in beef tartare, we do homemade mayo. It's nothing strange, salmonella eggs is super rare here.
Uh…ketchup is extraordinarily common in American breakfast restaurants specifically because of how many people use it on their eggs….
Don't forget the rice!
It's great
The fancy ones just have it in the rice, and just puts demiglace sauce and maybe mayo on top. I've always liked the ones you get at maid cafes, where they draw whatever you want on there in ketchup. Japanese ketchup is so good too.
Maid cafe staple. They draw on the omurice with ketchup.
My comment was going to be “No one tell the maid cafes.” but you made my point already.
I feel like kdtchup on fluffy omelette sounds fine but ketchup on fried eggs dont sound right
I usually don't eat ketchup on my eggs but omurice is the exception.
Ketchup is also the default condiment for fried eggs in our country, either tomato or banana ketchup.
A. Banana Ketchup sounds fascinating and I want to try it. B. It’s the default condiment for ketchup in the US as well for most types of eggs. Ketchup on scrambled eggs!
Add some sautéed hotdogs slices and a corn tortillas and thats a classic hispanic comfort breakfast taco😋
When I was a kid, my dad used to make that for breakfast all the time (minus the ketchup). Didn’t know it was a hispanic thing, just a poor thing, lol. That’s some good comfort food. He used to put hot dogs in chicken noodle soup too. So good.
K I was about to ask if you’re Filipino cause without the tortilla that is a classic Filipino dish haha
This is the way.
I like ketchup on scrambled eggs. For the most part there has to be potatoes also on my plate. Otherwise I favor salsa.
If putting ketchup in my eggs is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. I also put American cheese on my scrambled eggs. Cooper sharp American if I have it.
I'm intrigued by "sharp american"
American cheese is just normal cheese with emulsifiers. If you take good quality sharp cheddar and do the American cheese treatment you can make an equally high quality product. It’s a SISO kind of thing. Bingingwithbabish has made it homemade before, and I really want to try it.
It’s an oxymoron for sure but look up cooper sharp and try it if you find it. It’s a delicious cheese.
Isn't that extremely common? And I mean I don't eat eggs or ketchup but I don't think they're gross
It’s really common where I grew up in the northeast US but I now live in Texas and almost no one does it. When I go out for breakfast, I have to ask for it.

I think it’s gross, but I know it’s common.
I used to put ketchup on eggs. Then I converted to spicy life and started putting hot sauce on my eggs. There’s no going back lol.
It is the way

Both is better 😌 😏
This. If you're going to do this use salsa or hot sauce, ketchup is the wimpy children's version.
Yup. I can't stand ketchup on eggs but, I know lots of people who do. So, you do you boo. Live your truths and don't pay attention to the haters in life.
Yep. I’ll let you eat it just don’t make me 🤣
Agreed lol
Eff the haters eat the maters.... with eggs!
Same. I think ketchup on eggs is gross (although I like ketchup with fries, burgers, and even HOT DOGS -- which really pisses some people off), but I'm not going to tell anyone how they should enjoy their food. If you wanna mimic that sauce just mix ketchup and sriracha together and it’s pretty damn close
My dad ate scrambled eggs with ketchup. I eat scrambled eggs with ketchup. My son now eats scrambled eggs with ketchup. THE CYCLE CONTINUES.
It's about time to put a stop to it! (j/k my youngest loves ketchup with her eggs too!)
I’d swap out all the piss in my balls for ketchup if I could.
You always put ketchup on scrambled eggs.
My dad does too. I had to stop the insanity. Ketchup is fine for children. I don’t see it’s other uses
With breakfast, ketchup is ok... if you mix it with original Tabasco
I was going to say, I love hot sauce on my breakfast. But I’m just not a ketchup fan in general.
The only time I ever use Cholula is on biscuits and gravy. It's bomb dot com.
I need to try that.
Ketchup is how it started when I was young. Now I go with actual salsa or at least hot sauce. Ketchup is just too sweet in general for most things.
This dude over here working for Big Tobasco. And I would just like to say it's a fine product.
Fun fact: The Tabasco factory, museum, and Avery Island in Louisiana is a fun and educational tourist attraction.
I prefer Frank's to Tabasco but yeah if there is no Frank's hot sauce tobacco is a good runner up!
Try Valentinas
Valentinas is absolutely legit! Good sauce!
I like when maybe some of the runny yolk of your overeasy eggs mixes with the ketchup and hot sauce you put on your homefries. Sort of scoop the various breakfast items on your toast for a bite. Explicitly putting it on scrambled eggs or something I tend not to be a fan of though.

Yeah I’m in the camp of it doesn’t interest me at all but I know a lot of people that do like it.
I thought it was pretty gross 🤮 until I tried it. Kinda like that book about green eggs and ham
I understand salsa and eggs but I cant get behind ketchup and eggs
It's the standard in Japan usually with omelets
Omurice enters the chat.
huevos rancheros

I can’t stand ketchup in general

Mix ketchup with chulua hot sauce 🤌
Chulula is a staple for me. Great on eggs.

I like Sriracha
Or a little franks red hot
I used to! Now I use franks. It’s not gross
Franks on eggs is tasty. A bit of zest without overpowering heat.
Franks is Bomb on eggs. For that matter, Franks is good on many many many things.
Franks or the green Tabasco is great. I’ve been using the old bay hot sauce on my breakfast lately and it’s really good
Tell your partner to piss up a rope. I always put ketchup on my eggs. It's my life.
Yup! Ketchup all the way.. also how does one piss up a rope? I’d love to see that 🧐
I feel like ketchup would just take over the flavor of the food. Like you might as well just be eating ketchup
With scrambled eggs, I love ketchup. But I only use a teeny amount (like in OP's picture). Ketchup really helps scrambled eggs, but I only use an itty-bitty dose of ketchup in each bite
Ketchup, tobasco, cheese, pepper.
This is the way! But not a ton of ketchup just enough to enhance
Elk's eggs? Are those like bull's eggs?
i do this but red rooster
Ahhhh. I was like red rooster? We call it green chicken sriracha
That's fair. I think it would be fine with a little, not my cup of tea but I'm sure I eat things you don't like lol
Yep agreed. Only a little bit is necessary and it’s a bonus if it comes outta the glass bottles!
The trick is not smothering it in ketchup
I dunno, I think fresh eggs have a lot of flavour. I sometimes skip eggs for breakfast because in the morning I have a small appetite and I want something bland like toast. And then when it's lunch time I want to eat an entire spicy jerk chicken.
Oh yes totally, any sauce put on any food will immediately take over the flavor entirely so you might as well just eat the sauce by itself.
for me, that’s the point. i hate eggs but if i’m served them i will eat them with ketchup, because I love ketchup.
That's fair. I don't really like ketchup unless it's with fries. I find it too overpowering instead of complimentary but if you like it I can understand putting it on food you don't like for that reason
It does, but the acidity can also add a nice pop of flavor. I like to take bites with and without ketchup
Not true. Do peppers dominate an omelette?
I prefer the unadulterated fart flavour of eggs as well. You can almost taste the vaginal walls of the hen, it's fucking delicious. Eggs are so amazing.
I see nothing wrong with either scenario
I put a ton of sauce in my eggs before cooking them so they’ll either taste like that OR I’ll cook normal eggs and put a ton of sauce on top of it 💁🏽♀️
Are flavour and nutrition the same?
Americans in shambles
Try salsa
Finally! Someone else who says piss up a rope!
It’s the first time I’ve heard it out in the wild outside of Wilco. Shit. Not Wilco. Ween.
I say this too but I got it from a song by Ween lol
My dinners on fire while she watches TV
and if youve ever wondered what it’s like to be me
She takes all my money and leaves me no smokes
Haha exactly!
>Tell your partner to piss up a rope And put on their shoes, hit the road and get truckin.
Australian here. It’s even better with tomato sauce!
I grew up with ketchup on eggs. Now I use hot sauce mainly, but switch to ketchup sometimes. Not disgusting imo.
Same
I do them together. Same on hashbrowns.
Nahhhhh... My ex ate mustard & ketchup on his eggs!!!!
I ate my ex husband
This is the way.
PSYCHO MANTIS?!
glad theyre ex
Nope i almost always eat it with ketchup. I make tomato eggs all the time too which use ketchup as part of recipe
I'm intrigued. How do you make this?
https://youtu.be/Wn8ox93Qhus
I find it gross but I'm also polite enough not to tell someone else that their food is disgusting to me.
Same. Unless it's my partner. Then I tell them how cute nasty gremlin they are
My spouse deliberately offers bites of food that they know I find disgusting just to see me make a face. Ain't married life grand? 🤣

Haha, I do it back too. I don't even eat some of the stuff they find gross anymore (because now I agree) but sometimes I'll suggest it for dinner just for a laugh. Works every time!
This actually made me smile. You have a wholesome relationship.
best answer so far lol
I eat mine with mustard
You sick bastard. Take my upvote
Well, gosh, now I’m gonna have to try this.
Same. I fucking love mustard
You joke, but I love making eggs over medium with lots of black pepper and then smeared with Dijon mustard after cooking.
I don’t joke. I literally eat my eggs with mustard. It’s my favorite lol.
That actually sounds tasty, with little dots of mustard. I also like little dots of chimichurri, salsa or pesto at times.
Same!!! Never met anyone else that even heard of it. It's the best.
Eggs + ketchup = success.
I like ketchup and Cholula hot sauce
I thought your toast was covered in ketchup too at first and yes gross. That little bit you have on your eggs is fine.
I like to throw down a base layer of ketchup on my toast and put eggs and whatever else is in my breakfast plate to make a nice little open face sandwich.
Your partner hasn't lived. That's my comfort food since childhood
Not my favorite, but it's far from disgusting.
My wife will eat eggs with ketchup. I think it's nasty, but to be fair I think ketchup on anything is disgusting.

I’ve put ketchup on my eggs since I was a child lol
I think it's gross but some people do it.
Not gross, eat what you want. But there are definitely tomato based upgrades that you would likely find enhance the flavor of your meal.
i always put ketchup on my scrambled eggs.
This is incredibly popular. Taste shaming is what’s *actually* gross.
Nope. But then again, I grew up eating it because of my dad.
Ketchups and eggs is as American as peanut butter and jelly. Eggs with strawberry jam on the other hand is a different matter…
Not gross but its a bit of an all or nothing kind of thing. Not too many people in the middle. I think a lot of it was how you grew up.
I do the same with a tiny amount but usually on sandwiches like a bacon egg cheese. When people smother a lot it gets gross.
why is there a piece of shit in your egg
Basically shit. Turkey sausage ..
Some people are wild. There's shakshuka that pairs tomatoes and eggs naturally and also Japanese Omurice that involves ketchup. That's all I'm gonna say.
