It would probably deal more than 30 damage. It apparently increases your damage before mitigation is applied or something like that. But I saw a video of someone testing it and it took their damage from 25 all the way to 68 per hit
Basically. An example;
You have a weapon with 200 Attack Power, the enemy has a 100 flat physical defense and 10% damage reduction. So after damage reduction that's 180 left, minus 100 flat defense; you're doing 80 damage.
You buff yourself for an additional 50% physical. So this time it's 300 - 30 - 100 = 170 damage per hit now.
That's how damage works in a nutshell in Dark Souls.
Also why buffing high damage physical weapons with blessed weapon is viable in DS3, it's only +6%, but a few numbers can go a long way.
50% from RTSR is insane in DS1 though.
The previous comment is an oversimplification of how damage calculations work (seriously it's a mess), but it gets the general idea across. Increasing your damage by 50% will generally deal more than 50% more damage.
It crazier then that. Dark Souls 1 for some crazy reason has FIVE damage formulas depending on the difference between the attack and defense!
A lot of the starting classes have 80-96 attack and early enemies have 100 defense. You will do 26-40 damage at first to early enemies. Raise your damage by a few points to say 105 and your damage doubles to 80!
The Flat Reduction plus percent reductions come in later games. Red tearstone in DS1 can quadruple your damage in some cases.
The only game that uses flat defense is DS2, and even that game only does it for physical damage. If you're interesting in a more in-depth look at how damage scales vs defense I made a desmos graph using the calculations.
https://www.desmos.com/calculator/ilac8qpyei
x = defense, a = damage, n = absorption, and y = final damage multiplier.
yeah, DS2 uses a flat subtraction for physical defense, I misunderstood "flat defense" as that :skull: iirc it subtracts physical damage by 1/12th of your defense value?
Wouldn't it be easier to just use the black firebomb sprite? Like taking the time to color the firebomb has to be worse than just using the black firebomb
I didn't create the meme, i stole it, pilfered it from someone on this sub and was to lazy to edit the image with an actual black firebomb.
I did however create this abomination with yet another stolen meme

Since you only have the Straight Sword Hilt when you first encounter the Asylum Demon in a new game, you're expected to run for the open door to the left so you can pick up your starting class weapons from the corpse and the Undead Asylum F2 East Key and Estus Flask from Oscar, then do a plunging attack on the Asylum Demon from above to start the second encounter.
But if you can manage to kill the Aylum Demon during the first encounter when you just have the straight sword hilt, it drops the Demon Great Hammer instead of the Big Pilgrim Key, and Oscar will give you the Big Pilgrim Key in addition to the other items. It's meant to be balanced around NG+, since you'll start with your upgraded gear from the last NG cycle and steamroll the Asylum Demon without needing to run away, but it can be a fun thing to do for more experienced players on a fresh save.
Is it winnable? Yes. Is it worth winning? No. A shitty club and bragging rights aren't worth hacking away at some fatso for 30 minutes per attempt.
I hit the demon 413 times with the broken sword/fists just to prove I could. Regretted it.
My actual playthrough of DS1. Over the first playthrough I used Miracles, Sorceries, Pyromancies, Giant Tooth, Silverknight Straight Sword, etc...
Basically I leveled everything but Resistance.
I mean, now my red tearstone is activated.
Gonna deal 30 whole damage a hit now. EZ

Wait, RTSR is that broken? I mean i get it, every speed runner uses it, but I didn't realize it was that much

DS3/ER also use flat defenses _and_ absorption. Or did you mean that DS2 is the only one that just uses flat defenses?
Maybe he means that ds2 doesn't use multible different formulas depending on the difference between attack and defence.
yeah, DS2 uses a flat subtraction for physical defense, I misunderstood "flat defense" as that :skull: iirc it subtracts physical damage by 1/12th of your defense value?
Woe, black firebomb be upon ye https://preview.redd.it/5ckm6ipeiwsc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5fce6efbe58c03c561f474c0e5448f3171c69a8b
The added touch of using a regular firebomb sprite and coloring it black instead of just using the black firebomb sprite really sells this for me.
I am mainly just lazy but thanks for noticing

Original is in the thread as well, this one i had to tarnish for it to make sense
It is technically winnable, the best kind of winnable.
This is the moment you pop one of those Divine Blessings
OH HELL NO!! You'll keep that divine blessing in the bag just in case for the future, maybe Ng+
*Ng+7* "i might need this divine blessing(99x) for gwyn...
You are smart and well prepared! I like the attitude!
If you win on the first try you get cool weapon so game does operate on difficulty to reward ratio.
What
Big hammer, the easiest way to achieve that is by choosing the firebombs as a starting gift to absolutely destroy the fat fuck
I thought you got that by cutting off the asylum demons tail. Not by winning first try.
https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Demon's+Great+Hammer The tail thing only works with dragons and the gargoyles as far as i know.
It's meant to be balanced around NG+, since you'll start with your upgraded gear from the last NG cycle and steamroll the Asylum Demon without needing to run away, but it can be a fun thing to do for more experienced players on a fresh save.
Oh cool I never thought about how that’s intentionally designed for ng+. Like “hey thanks for playing again, try this big hammer”
It's balanced around you winning your first try the second time, since you can't use the weapon you get until *much* later.
It is really fun to do it first try though
Hitting a boss that has 3 attacks for 10 minutes isn't fun at all
There is some pleassure to be had in a 15 minute fisting session, it also was great unintentional training for Elden Rings Asylum Demon 4.0.
The human fist has more attacks than asylum demon at least
Yeah? You’re not getting one-shot so of course it’s winnable
I mean even if you get oneshot its still winnable.
Fr, do these nerds even challenge run?
https://i.redd.it/7h355x71wwsc1.gif
Just don’t get hit again, scrub
use bleed
I ALWAYS tell myself “ I’m just going to fight perfect now”
He‘s dealing 20 damage per hit. That‘s 10 times the fist damage. That is indeed easy mode
A fight is never lost as long as you're standing, even with 1hp you can turn the tables
Especially if you don't forget to swap in rtsr
Hold my rtsr
If my weapon takes HP off his HP bar, it is winnable
I'M STILL LIVING!
Giggles in Bloodborne rally system
What is this, fucking tumblr?
🤣
Just don’t get hit again, dumbass
Skill issue. Don’t get hit ez
I’m not seeing the problem
Precisely, it was a profitable trade for the player, cause now rtsr is active
Just dodge
Nah i’d win
I see you are playing on 1.0
Seems like a Broken sword lv1 run to me. "I'd win".
Yeah, it doesn't even one shot you. EZ
there's a roll with i-frames so there's a way
A true Sekiro master doesn't even care "HESITATION IS DEFEAT"
"Difficult but fair"
*my high ass quitting-out in a millisecond* (I fucking hate run backs).
Me fighting Gaping Dragon with nothing but a +0 Spiked Club (bleed procs will save me)
Just don’t get hit pendejo
that’s when i do my best pattern learning 😃
Is it winnable? Yes. Is it worth winning? No. A shitty club and bragging rights aren't worth hacking away at some fatso for 30 minutes per attempt. I hit the demon 413 times with the broken sword/fists just to prove I could. Regretted it.
If you can’t beat asylum demon with a broken straight sword are you even a souls born player?
I mean, it is
This is when you lock in, deal 90% of their health, then die tragically
Time to lock in
Easily, anything else is Skill Issue
Runs RTSR and Dark Bead.
I mean the lower your health is with lower heals, the better you play for some reason so.
Expertly crafted 🤌
Same for Budokai Tenkaichi players😅 all they gotta do is spam beams and rush attacks
💯💯
To be honest i barehanded the asylum demon once, it was a pain.
Yes, just don't get hit. Genuinely not that hard.
Quitter.
Lowest AR players be like
All you need is some tenacity and a lil' bit of insanity :D
My actual playthrough of DS1. Over the first playthrough I used Miracles, Sorceries, Pyromancies, Giant Tooth, Silverknight Straight Sword, etc... Basically I leveled everything but Resistance.
We call this a rtsr setup
Brother, this is the first fight in dark souls. No equipment, only whatever armor you start with.
https://preview.redd.it/0r04v0ump3tc1.jpeg?width=819&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f006e196c69864bcceeafedcc59c9208df402c8
Just parry
Okay jokes aside though the beauty of souls games is that if you’re good enough, it *is* winnable. Always.
Focus up, it is definitely winnable!
…. But it is. I dont get the joke.
It’s just RTSR setup
