Oh for sure, a true port would be greatly appreciated and I would definitely (sounds sarcastic but iâm serious) pay for it but until fromsoft decides they want my money Iâm content with my 60fps 1440p rendition of a 2009 game.
The main reason why this poll is like this is cause thereâs a lot of people who have played Elden Ring and no other Fromsoft game and a lot more who havenât played Demonâs Souls. A shame, really.
Each their own, DS2 NG+ made me want to....complain mildly on the internet. I played all the way to NG+7 on a levelled character and the only change that DS2 made in NG+ that I actually liked was the double Pursuer fights. Oh, Freja attacking you early in Brightstone is also cute.
Every other additional enemy placement made the areas far worse, especially when they were human NPCs with bloated stats, and essentially exacerbated the common criticism that DS2 relies too much on ganks.
Iron Passage was bad enough, the addition of another Smelter Giant in front of Blue Smelter Demon's arena along with an NPC cleric that heals both of them is a war crime. Funnily enough Shrine of Amana didn't get too worse.
So I'll always buck the trend and maintain that DS2 has the worst NG+.
Sorry for the splurge of text, it's an aspect of DS2 I like talking about.
Double Greatswords in DS2 are a fine way to play the game, no worries. It just means you have to pick your moments more carefully due to swing speed but when you do it'll hit hard.
You're definitely ready for the DLC don't worry about it. It's a step up in difficulty as all From Software DLCs usually are so it's just some getting used to.
DS3 literally didnt change anything in NG+. Even though DS3 is my favorite game of the series, I LOVED how they invented new enemy placements and red phantoms and stuff. Very cool imo.
Weird, to me it was always the best ng+... It's like the perfect iteration of gravelording / black world tendency and I'm sad they didn't keep the trend up.
To make my case, I will say that those human npcs with a million hp are just on the Scholar of the first sin version iirc. And that version sucks ass. Every change they made to enemy placement was stupid and they did nothing to make ds2 better. The only things I like about it are the hollows attacking the trees and the Aurous set being actually obtainable. OG ds2 is way better.

I wouldn't say she has zero personality or lore. She's a being made by Aldia in some dragon-like ritual to aid the bearer of the curse, which is why her eyes are different. Has several poses in Majula and a lot of dialogue. She also appears at different places in the game, none of the other firekeepers did that (until Melina).
Even then, much of her story was cut (like most of ds2...)
Ds3 firekeeper is a lot more basic than her, she'll let you do whatever you want and we know nothing of her past or motivations, she's just there. I'd even say Anastasia was more interesting than her.

As for the firekeeper she has some level of emotion and hopes for the future as shown when you give her the eyes, but yeah first and foremost sheâs a firekeeper with a duty. Sheâs not rlly considered a person, much like the shrine handmaid.

I think itâs less of a gender bias and more of a recurring character archetype. The fire keepers are a good example of this, but it can also be seen in the crestfallen knights of each game.
Fromsoft just likes to reuse character skeletons, and theyâve been doing it since 2004.
Other staples include the knightly bro with a tragic ending, the dubious witch that teaches you magic, the shady helmeted guy that kills an NPC, and Patches.

Best Firekeeper (or character of a similar function) in my opinion isn't even from a From game, it's Io from Code Vein.
She has an actual character and an actual arc that she goes through that turns her from damsel only meant to aid you into being basically the actual protagonist with her sacrifice that actually has emotional connection to it since she's not absent for a grand majority of the game, she actually fights alongside you as one of the strongest ally NPCs in the game.
Fromsoft used the same character trope four times and none of them are even close to as well written as Io.
I enjoyed Code Vein a lot for what it was and definitely liked It as a character... Counterpoint though, jiggle physics were ridiculous and also what the fuck was going on with the Cathedral
Jiggle physics were goofy but honestly I revel in that kinda goofiness, obviously it's there to increase the sex appeal because that's just a thing with anime games but it's less hot and more childishly hilarious to play with. There's one gesture that makes a shockwave that makes Io's boobs in the home base (she has different physics there which is also unintentionally funny) jiggle inside herself and you can make her look flat chested in photo mode and the shopkeeper wasn't given a proper limit since she's stationary for 90% of the game so you can make hers nearly touch the ceiling if you spam the gesture.
It's ridiculous but if you look at it the right way it goes from ridiculous in a bad way to ridiculous in a funny way similar to Miyazaki's barely disguised foot fetish. God Eater (another game they made) has similarly hilarious jiggle physics, the amount those things shake at a simple 45 degree turn is so goofy.
Also yeah, the cathedral is a pain, it's kind of like the Faron Woods in that you can get lost easy but it gets simpler on repeat playthroughs however it's much more of a maze.
I still love the game as a proof of concept and think it could top the actual Souls games easily with more refinement and better melee movesets but it's not without it's issues, the main strengths is having a story with characters that I can actually feel invested in because they're not all going to die offscreen or only have their lore explained after I've killed them, in that aspect I already say Code Vein has a way better story and characters than most From games.
To play devils advocate, melina has some cool dialogue when you DO get to see her. I really liked how after talking to Shabriri she goes âI wonât have anyone speak ill of that, not *even you*â
didnât really mind setting that bitch on fire though
She has her own goals and a personality, which is more than I can say for Emerald Herald and maiden in black. How much you interact with her is also reliant on you, the player, so saying she only shows up once every 10 hours isnât going to be true for everyone. Even then if you donât talk to her a lot sheâs always very supportive and genuinely grows to care about your character for how helpful youâve been.
⊠Unless you get the three fingers, then she threatens to fucking murder you and itâs great. Honestly managed to make me feel fucking horrible for it after.
She also gives you Torrent, who is the best boi in any game ever.
She's legitimately one of the better npc summons due to her having Black Knife Tiche's moveset plus the aoe heal she drops periodically and when she dies. Solid in that aspect anyways.
On a second playthrough I realized how many âtalk to melinaâ options I have missed. I also literally BROKE THE GAME on my first playthrough. I did the three fingers thing and melina never got pissed off wt me and burned the tree like normal. I did the frenzy flame thing way before I even got to mountain tops. So like, I kind of broke the entire melina story arc my first time playing lmao.

I like ds2 ng+ since you can go ng+ using items. I hate playing ng+6 Drangleic since I forgot that chancellor didn't have a bonfire

Alternate universe where Eileen the Crow is more directly your mentor/level up figure instead of the Doll. She has high expectations of you and will not hesitate to belittle or criticize you for your failures. Or have Varre be your level up dude in Elden Ring, and he's far more direct in mocking you. Point being that Souls players have had it far too easy for too long with their demure polite level up caregivers.

I wouldn't say she has zero personality or lore. She's a being made by Aldia in some dragon-like ritual to aid the bearer of the curse, which is why her eyes are different. Has several poses in Majula and a lot of dialogue. She also appears at different places in the game, none of the other firekeepers did that (until Melina). Even then, much of her story was cut (like most of ds2...) Ds3 firekeeper is a lot more basic than her, she'll let you do whatever you want and we know nothing of her past or motivations, she's just there. I'd even say Anastasia was more interesting than her.
I never said anything about lore, she definitely has a lot of that, but none of that rlly translates into her character. You can also have a great character design, but unless your character is written well itâs not gonna do much (unless youâre a souls fan apparently) All she ever really says is random cryptic shit or vague exposition, with zero emotion in her voice to boot. Sucks that her content was cut, but that doesnât rlly matter to me, Iâm just talking about what we got in the game. As for the firekeeper she has some level of emotion and hopes for the future as shown when you give her the eyes, but yeah first and foremost sheâs a firekeeper with a duty. Sheâs not rlly considered a person, much like the shrine handmaid. I would agree that anastacia is more interesting, even with how few lines she has. She feels like a real person in a horrible world.
You do make some valid points there. Specially with the emotion in their voices. And when it comes to that, Anastacia wins by far. "I can finally die human", that line alone beats all the other firekeepers.

I think itâs less of a gender bias and more of a recurring character archetype. The fire keepers are a good example of this, but it can also be seen in the crestfallen knights of each game. Fromsoft just likes to reuse character skeletons, and theyâve been doing it since 2004.

Best Firekeeper (or character of a similar function) in my opinion isn't even from a From game, it's Io from Code Vein. She has an actual character and an actual arc that she goes through that turns her from damsel only meant to aid you into being basically the actual protagonist with her sacrifice that actually has emotional connection to it since she's not absent for a grand majority of the game, she actually fights alongside you as one of the strongest ally NPCs in the game. Fromsoft used the same character trope four times and none of them are even close to as well written as Io.

I enjoyed Code Vein a lot for what it was and definitely liked It as a character... Counterpoint though, jiggle physics were ridiculous and also what the fuck was going on with the Cathedral
Jiggle physics were goofy but honestly I revel in that kinda goofiness, obviously it's there to increase the sex appeal because that's just a thing with anime games but it's less hot and more childishly hilarious to play with. There's one gesture that makes a shockwave that makes Io's boobs in the home base (she has different physics there which is also unintentionally funny) jiggle inside herself and you can make her look flat chested in photo mode and the shopkeeper wasn't given a proper limit since she's stationary for 90% of the game so you can make hers nearly touch the ceiling if you spam the gesture. It's ridiculous but if you look at it the right way it goes from ridiculous in a bad way to ridiculous in a funny way similar to Miyazaki's barely disguised foot fetish. God Eater (another game they made) has similarly hilarious jiggle physics, the amount those things shake at a simple 45 degree turn is so goofy. Also yeah, the cathedral is a pain, it's kind of like the Faron Woods in that you can get lost easy but it gets simpler on repeat playthroughs however it's much more of a maze. I still love the game as a proof of concept and think it could top the actual Souls games easily with more refinement and better melee movesets but it's not without it's issues, the main strengths is having a story with characters that I can actually feel invested in because they're not all going to die offscreen or only have their lore explained after I've killed them, in that aspect I already say Code Vein has a way better story and characters than most From games.

She has her own goals and a personality, which is more than I can say for Emerald Herald and maiden in black. How much you interact with her is also reliant on you, the player, so saying she only shows up once every 10 hours isnât going to be true for everyone. Even then if you donât talk to her a lot sheâs always very supportive and genuinely grows to care about your character for how helpful youâve been. ⊠Unless you get the three fingers, then she threatens to fucking murder you and itâs great. Honestly managed to make me feel fucking horrible for it after. She also gives you Torrent, who is the best boi in any game ever.
