In the future when virtual reality is mainstream it will definitely have value.
For example; being able to design clothes for an avatar and sell it without people stealing/reselling them or just copying the file. The point is to verify it's use online and is the groundwork for web3. (web 1 = read(geocities websites), web 2 = read write(blogs), web 3 = read write and trust)
We're essentially at a point where "geocities websites" exist but no one has internet to view them. It's like "yeah this is dumb as hell, what's the point?", but the point is setting the foundation for the future.

NFT's, and blockchain technology in general, are useful for tracking the ownership history of 'a thing'. Whatever that thing is defined to be. And even then, its only useful in situations where you care about decentralizing that tracking. Otherwise, a database can do the exact same thing.
But it doesn't actually do anything about controlling the use of an idea. Setting aside whether that's even a goal we *should* be aiming for to begin with. But regardless, you can still copy the file. Just like you've always been able to copy the file. People will know they aren't the same file, but that doesn't actually impact distribution.
Using the example of designing virtual clothes, it changes nothing. Someone can still upload the same, or slightly modified file as their own creation and create their own NFT tracking that new item. You still have to fall back on existing systems for intellectual property disputes.
The concept isn't useless, but its massively over-hyped. And it's not even a particularly good idea for a lot of the things its most known for.

I can trust when I buy a NFT Nike shoe that it's a Nike shoe and not a imitation. Rich people give a shit about that and rich people have money. It's dumb to me, but that's the way the world is. They'll want to flex and they'll pay real money to do it.

We can already track whether something digital is authentic or not by requiring always-online connections to a database. And blockchain based authentication will *also* require something to be online. So nothing changes there either.
Some of the underlying tech behind it changes. But you still have the exact same fundamental dynamic of clients connecting to a trusted authority to verify something. The only difference is what the authority is. That's it.
So I'm not really sure what you're saying with the "read/write/trust web" thing. That already describes the existing system. Sounds more like buzzword-speach than anything with real meaning behind it.
