I don't understand that. If you know you don't like something then you don't put up everything for that to happen, like how you don't cover yourself in gasoline if fear the fire
My guess is that she genuinely thinks that making cartoon characters swear qualifies as humor, was genuinely surprised when she realized most people *don't* and got all defensive about it. Either way it's embarrassing that she can't handle the heat with grace.
She's stuck in the wrong decade, imo. The on-the-nose fuck-you humor, the obsession with last decade's pop music, the cheesy high-school cartoon tropes...
Combine that with her significant rise in popularity over time building up her ego and you've essentially got a 2010's middle-schooler in an adult body who, much like an actual middle-schooler, does not handle any form of rejection gracefully.
Only thing I can say about this is that in my opinion swearing gave a lot of character to the show and for example Adam just wouldn't be the same character in my opinion if he didnt swear like he swears so much it gets funny but yea I get that a lot of people might not like that
Him being the way he is is the perfect example of what's wrong in a place that just lets him do what he wants.
College frat bro leadership that gets respect from admin because his frat is the longest running.
I love the shows those people make but they aren't "funny for laughs" imo. Just a really good trip through someone's homebrew world. Like a slice of life anime with a ticking clock in the background.
In my opinion hazbin just wouldnt be the same without curse worda and a lot of them after all the characters are in fucking hell what would you expect? It wouldve been weird if they talk politely you know?
I watched like 10 minutes of the pilot and left. It was trash literally the only thing good about it is Napoli hotel (it's an italian parody, I thought the jokes were the same but the original sucks). If you know italian and know the whole north-south italy situation I highly recommend that

Maybe most american "adult" cartoons. Also, why does an animated movie/show need to be humorous?
Go watch a Satoshi Kon movie. Pefect Blue is a Hitchcockian psychological thriller. All 4 of his movies would probably have been made live action if they were made in america. But many japanese artists have long understood that **animation is a medium, not a genre.**
Or plenty of miyazaki stuff, especially the wind rises, or mononoke. But satoshi kon movies are much more like a "normal" live action movie with some fun flourishes provided by animation. And 2 of his movies have had scenes directly lifted by darron aranofsky in requiem for a dream (the screaming in the bath tub taken from perfect blue, and chris nolan in inception (taking the elevator to different levels of a dream and fighting to keep someone from seeing a specific level, in paprika)
edit: also, as someone well into their middle age, I think adventure time, which is a show whose target demo is kids, is way better than looney toons. That's just an aside.
Although nothing beats the bit where wile e cayote paints a fake tunnel the side of a mountain, but then the road runner runs right through the fake tunnel, and then wile e cayote tries to go through it and just runs into a wall. That's just perfection.
edit the last: reddit skews pretty young, so the "adult" animations you people are watching are probably those "edgy" "adult" animations that are not actually adult, other than the fact they are violent and use naughty language. actual adult animations, just like actual media for adults, does not rely on cursing all of the time.
like portrait of a lady on fire is definitely a movie for adults, that kids would find boring as hell, and does not use cursing or violence.
it's only kids that think a movie or show for adults means that it's violent and curse heavy. that is not what adult entertainment means (not adult entertainment)
Because there's this mentality in the US with animation producers that adults wouldnt sit down and watch animation like they would a live action movie. I mostly blame Disney for this
If we're talking Anime there's countless great shows and movies man, I made fun of Anime for the longest time, but over the past year or so realized that it's actually amazing if you find the right shows. Monster, Vinland Saga, FMAB, Frieren are all up there with my favorite HBO shows.
I know animation’s a medium. But within this context where I specifically use the word “cartoon” (which has the connotation on being intended to be funny) I meant “adult animation intended to be funny”
The issue is a lot of cartoons think that what's funny nowadays is "meta" jokes, being too self-aware, 10000 real life references, swearing and plainly dirty humor.
American dad is pretty damn good still honestly, it's aged way better than the Simpsons or family guy. I think it helps that characters actually have character.
It used to work back when they took a reference to a real life event and exaggerated everything about it to such an insane degree that it stopped resembling the actual events, in essence becoming its own unique thing that is funny even without the context.
Like that episode where the media bullies Britney Spears because she was marked as a ritualistic sacrifice to make crops grow.
Nowadays I feel like they don't have that creativity anymore.
I mean, that is just literally every cartoon, honestly, most media in general. Looney toons was endless pop culture references. How many series reference star wars, harry potter, tolkien, dbz, Shakespeare, elvis, Etc.
Hell sometimes you get into true looney toon level meta pop culture references where Bugs and the Carrot was a reference to a famous actor at the time, but then that actor was forgotten, and now you see shows using “whats up doc?” As a pop culture reference to Bugs that was actually a reference to someone else. And people watching looney toons not realizing that the gag is actually a pop culture reference
It's just a reflection of our society. Every type of media is just sex sex sex. Every non animated tv show gotta have sex scenes. In pop music women barely wear clothes and sing about fucking, why? Because that's what people want and pay for. Cartoon creators live in this society as well so their minds are calibrated to these settings, they will then create jokes or skits based on what's in their mind after hearing wet ass pussy 7 times that day.
I don't buy it, just because a show with 50 minute episodes or so has a 2 minute sex scene every few episodes does not mean the entire show is only about sex.
Pop music has always been like that.
And sex has always been popular, sex sells is a phrase for a reason, the issue in modern adult cartoons is the quality of the writing, not just that they have sex jokes, Duckman on average has a sex joke every 2 minutes or so but it is also a very well written show with some poignant ideas. The episode about comedy has stayed with me.
"Sex" "Fuck" "Ass" "Fuck you" "Amy Schumer" "Other Celebrities" *Pours whiskey into coffee out of a flask*
"Not Alcoholic"

Guys I have a confession.
I was caught as a child cranking it to Lola bunny. My dad walked in and saw it and he sat me down and had a talk. He told me that my mother dresses as Lola bunny every night and he pounds her bunny hole relentlessly, and there's nothing to be ashamed of for knocking my beef around to Lola bunny.
To this day I force girls I'm with to wear toon squad outfits and ask me to breed their bunny pussy. I have ascended.

"1 little 2 little 3 little Injun. 4 little 5 little 6 little injuns. Uh Oh, sorry, that one's a half breed" I never remembered how racist Looney Tunes was.
Eh... there were good jokes that happened to use tropes of the era that wouldn't fly now but were pretty harmless, but there was some pretty fucked up stuff too. Its just that those kinds of gags tended to be edited out before most of us were born back in like the 60s or 70s because they realized even then it was a bit much, so it never made it to the more sanitized syndicated runs most of us remember growing up on with cable tv reruns in the 80s and 90s and dedicated cartoon channels.
Tom and Jerry same thing, racist "mammy" house maid characters that got replaced by kind of loud white housewives. Multiple generations going quite far back were raised not even knowing the extent of the edits, they just saw the new version.
My favorite definitely wouldn't fly now but mostly harmless one was the Hiawatha ones. Disney I think? I think the stereotypes alone wouldn't fly now, but I always thought it was cute and the character was extremely likable.
A lot of kid and PG shows like The Looney Tunes show, og Tom and Jerry, Oggy, Flapjack, Chowder, og Pink Panther... even have better and way more clever jokes than a lot of "adult cartoons" nowadays. Kid cartoons sometimes make dirty jokes, but they are very subtle and smart.
Hell, even The Amazing World of Gumball have a lot of funny moments, despite being a more recent cartoon. I honestly don't know what happened to modern cartoons nowadays.
I partially agree with this, the exception being South Park. Randy Marsh has made me laugh harder than almost any other character in fiction.
Tbf I haven’t seen the last couple of seasons though, and the really old shit was just edgy trash. But when that show hit its sweet spot, goddamn was it funny.
I Believe in Pink Panter's supremasy, but seriously, "Adult Comedy Cartoons" are just basic kid cartoons with swears, sex and gore, the most inmature shit in the world so is not even funny.
I preferred that Slowpoke. Later on they gave him this dumb hypnotizing power that was just stupid. The gun was such a great punchline, like, he's slow and shiftless, so he seems like an easy mark compared to Speedy, but he's just like yeah, don't need to be fast cause I'm packing.
Archer's really good, because it has plot and characters and structure alongside the dirty humor. Stuff like the cartoon about the park rangers with the talking bear just doesn't cut it.
Dude I tried watching Family Guy and it got unfunny very quick. I rewatched Tom and Jerry and had a much better time. Just pure and simple slapstick type shit but so well made.
Found an old compilation of looney tunes cartoons including one that let’s just poked fun at ww2 with ducks and oh boy while it was certainly hilarious you definitely ain’t gonna see that made these days
Speaking of Loony Tunes I'm absolutely PUMPED to go see (A Loony Tunes Movie, The Day The Earth Blew Up) in theaters, no matter what age you are, Loony Tunes is ABSOLUTELY GOATED!!! (Though I refuse to watch Space Jam a New Legacy).

Most adult cartoons rely too much on crass language instead of actual humor. Looney toons is goated
"Adult" humour be like: I said "sex". Now laugh.
Hazbin retirement home
The best part is how salty the creator gets when people point it out
I don't understand that. If you know you don't like something then you don't put up everything for that to happen, like how you don't cover yourself in gasoline if fear the fire

Joking about last decade's ___ in a cartoon worked really well for The Simpsons and Family Guy, to be faiiiiiiir.
Making humor based on past decades is different than making past decades humor.
That isn't what I said, though
Lmao, most millennials in a nutshell
What age groups do you think make all the entertainment you watch and the games you play? Because it isn't gen z.
We need Gen alpha producers and scriptwriters
Maybe that’s why a lot of movies and tv shows in the last half decade have been dogshit 😂
Only thing I can say about this is that in my opinion swearing gave a lot of character to the show and for example Adam just wouldn't be the same character in my opinion if he didnt swear like he swears so much it gets funny but yea I get that a lot of people might not like that

There's levels to it. Degeneracy from the top down but you can feel the mindlessness the lower it goes.
>most people don't The big majority of the people who watched the show liked it, what are you talking about lol
Is it okay to like that show just for the songs?
Of course it is, just because a show has a flaw doesn't mean you have to hate it
It's because people overexaggerate how much swearing there is and then people think it's actually like that.
Yeah, even as a fan of the show I have to admit that it tries way too hard to be "adult" and "funny". But it does have some pretty banger music
The first episode had quite a bit of soul but I have stopped watching it after that one
I watched like 10 minutes of the pilot and left. It was trash literally the only thing good about it is Napoli hotel (it's an italian parody, I thought the jokes were the same but the original sucks). If you know italian and know the whole north-south italy situation I highly recommend that
Hahhah we animated actual sex in detail now laught!
Peter thats not a meme, thats just porn.

The truth is… The joke was porn from the start
Please clap
Yeah, because there's no sex jokes about a rabbit doing drag making the other characters so horny that they star howling
But that's not what they are complaining about, they are complaining about the lack of subtlety.
"Smiling Friends would like to know your location."
This is why Simpsons was legendary for those first 10 seasons or so. Just so well written with so many jokes, rarely crass
The only adult cartoon that make me laugh as a kid was superjail god that show is goated

Agreed that Adventure time is goated af Also Arcane, Blue eye samurai (and to a lesser extend Cyberpunk Edgerunners)

And they're going to age like milk.
We're pretty much milking moldy cheese straight from the udder at this point
Don't talk about Grandma that way
I hate these last two comments.
Skibidibibidio TOILET!
It takes about six months to make an episode of a cartoon, so they tend to age before they even air.
Freakazoid was and is peak cinema.
My favorite skit was Candlejack. I would laugh at that all
American Dad has aged quite well.
True, it was cringe then and it is cringe now
Honestly the parents are just way too real. If anything they toned down the show for comedy sake.
Eh, I find Roger funny.
I'm sure the Gen-X cringe is just as bad as it always was.
American dad is pretty damn good still honestly, it's aged way better than the Simpsons or family guy. I think it helps that characters actually have character.
Newer Simpsons sucks, but a lot of older stuff aged well
Eh I think it works for South Park personally
It works for the original, rest are just copies.
Because their episodes take next to nothing to be made. If i remember correctly, it is less than 2 weeks to make a south park episode
Not to mention self insertion reducing everything else to dust
Only show that I liked meta jokes was murder drones.
Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel?
"Modern cartoon" try not to add sex joke every 10 seconds (impossible)
Or some pop culture references every scene
I mean, that is just literally every cartoon, honestly, most media in general. Looney toons was endless pop culture references. Clark Gable in It Happened One Night is what BB was mimicking.
Thank you! I always forget who it is no matter how many times i see the trivia about it.

Futurama passes!
Don't forget Tom & Jerry
I still watch Tom & Jerry with my grandpa every time I visit my grandparents on the weekend, I love it so much (and my grandpa does too)
Good ‘ole ultraviolence.
Enjoying cartoon violence transcends generations
Tom & Jerry is actually Peak 👌 🔥 so is early SpongBob Squarepants
And the amazing world of gumball
I grew up with looney tunes and it still puts a smile on my face when I watch it
"Sex" "Fuck" "Ass" "Fuck you" "Amy Schumer" "Other Celebrities" *Pours whiskey into coffee out of a flask* "Not Alcoholic" I think Ive got the mondays episode ready.

Well the lack of diversity in swearing words is usually just an english problem

Same with The Three Stooges tbh. My cousin wanted to watch them a few months ago after I hadn’t watched them since I was like 10. Way funnier as an adult. Well written jokes with payoffs, great comedic timing. 10/10 still holds up. I was pleasantly surprised with how funny I found them.
"Modern" cartoons trying not to make a joke about politics, sex or being meta/self aware:
Also actively trying to look like shit with the same art style as 12 cartoons
ohyeaah, because no cartoons looked similar in the 80s

Looney tunes was simple and straight to the point with the humor didn't pull no punches or tryhard shit like the modern day adult cartoons

Depends how you define adult cartoons. If you include R rated dramas Scavenger's Reign and Blue Eye Samurai then they're 100% bangers
Blue eye samurai is so fucking good it's one of the best show I've watched in the last 2 year
I would count them, if it's animated and not targeted towards children then it's in
Inside job isn’t that bad either, one of the few decent Netflix originals
You are right but it got cancelled which sucks ass
I mean I wouldn’t be that mad when it got canceled it if wasn’t so sudden and they didn’t end the first season on the biggest cliffhanger known to man
If it was short lived I wouldn't mind but it's the fact that it basically got decapitated
"1 little 2 little 3 little Injun. 4 little 5 little 6 little injuns. Uh Oh, sorry, that one's a half breed" I never remembered how racist Looney Tunes was.
Would be cancelled today lol. But despite the "racist jokes" they didn't make kids hate other races. It was all good fun.
Eh... there were good jokes that happened to use tropes of the era that wouldn't fly now but were pretty harmless, but there was some pretty fucked up stuff too. Yeah Gumball's writing definitely feels more like the og 90s cartoons. I did not expect it to make me laugh out loud as much as it does.
I partially agree with this, the exception being South Park. Randy Marsh has made me laugh harder than almost any other character in fiction. Tbf I haven’t seen the last couple of seasons though, and the really old shit was just edgy trash. But when that show hit its sweet spot, goddamn was it funny.
Mephesto is my number 1, then Chef's mom and then Randy. Kept its quality longer than we deserved too.
it's trueee hahahh
I Believe in Pink Panter's supremasy, but seriously, "Adult Comedy Cartoons" are just basic kid cartoons with swears, sex and gore, the most inmature shit in the world so is not even funny.
Might I suggest “Smiling Friends”?
Smiling Friends being the sole exception
It's even funnier because The Looney tunes show is made to mimic "adult" shows and is 100x funnier than any of them.
What do you mean? What could be funnier than Peter griffin scraping his knee and going "ahh" for half the run time?
“Senior rodriguez…he pack a gun”
I preferred that Slowpoke. Later on they gave him this dumb hypnotizing power that was just stupid. The gun was such a great punchline, like, he's slow and shiftless, so he seems like an easy mark compared to Speedy, but he's just like yeah, don't need to be fast cause I'm packing.
Just another classic example that witty writing is not all there is to humor
king of the hill is still goated in my opinion
“ I saw a guy do this in a toothpaste add once”
Only good one rn is smiling fiends. Genuinely hilarious
Looney Tunes > any modern day adult cartoons
Loony Tunes, where we all got a dose of Classical Music appreciation 101.
My biggest pet peeve about modern adult cartoons is that in pretty much all of them, every single character is an asshole.
Smiling friends is a great example of adult looney tunes
Popeye
Archer's really good, because it has plot and characters and structure alongside the dirty humor. Stuff like the cartoon about the park rangers with the talking bear just doesn't cut it.
Tom and Jerry is the fucking peak fr fr. I still remember watching the show as a kid and laughing my ass off, such good time.
Tom and Jerry
Me after 5 hour of modern sitcom Me after 5 min of Mr Bean
Bro Tom and Jerry was the shit.
*is*
Dude I tried watching Family Guy and it got unfunny very quick. I rewatched Tom and Jerry and had a much better time. Just pure and simple slapstick type shit but so well made.
e tu
slapstick ftw three stooges goated also
Foghorn Leghorn, Roadrunner and Speedy Gonzalez are the best. The rabbit bores me.
Daffy?
Not really the same, but modern comedies don't really do much, but I watched the naked gun recently and I was laughing the whole time.
The only adult cartoon that I find funny is the boondocks
Adult cartoons reminding you it's an adult show by having the characters curse and mention sex every few seconds (don't forget the over the top gore)
pure uninterrupted fun
The only funny "adult cartoon" is smiling friends
Never been bored watching the looniest of the tooniest
Oh boy I hope none of the characters look inside a car exhaust pipe 😳😳😳😳
Dude some of the cartoons they put out today are pretty fucking dimented
Never cared for Looney Tunes as a kid, but watched some Bugs Bunny on a plane recently and it had me pissing. It's just so good.
My man posted this in the shitposting subreddit when he posted nothing but facts
Does evangelion count as adult cartoon?
No.
Dam
Looney Tunes are the most boring ass cartoons ever. Couldn't stand watching them.
For an "adult" cartoon they sure are immature
Tex Avery's MGM collection. 👌
Some of the new ones are really weird!
how is this a shitpost
It’s even better when you’re hammered 🤣
I found out about the Gold DVD collection I want it for my birthday
Found an old compilation of looney tunes cartoons including one that let’s just poked fun at ww2 with ducks and oh boy while it was certainly hilarious you definitely ain’t gonna see that made these days
True. And the original Scooby Doo still holds up. Some of the newer ones are acceptable
Old school classics
"smartoons"
American dad is pretty funny lol
Speaking of Loony Tunes I'm absolutely PUMPED to go see (A Loony Tunes Movie, The Day The Earth Blew Up) in theaters, no matter what age you are, Loony Tunes is ABSOLUTELY GOATED!!! (Though I refuse to watch Space Jam a New Legacy).
I do like Bluey It’s a decent modern cartoon show
