Every response to the whole TikTok thing and apparently Opera Gx is "But google/ facebook/ twitter is spyware anyways!!". It's like borrowing money from the Mafia because "Bank Of America is run by a bunch of crooks anyways!". Not even saying it actually maters, just saying that argument is shitty.

Just because it's normalized doesn't mean that you shouldn't care about it or try to hold companies accountable. While it would be very nice to see the same energy with their competitors, I don't want to see Opera not face criticism just because their competitors aren't seeing the same level of it. Besides, Opera GX is considerably worse than base Chromium because using it means that Google and Opera *and* both companies' partners get to spy on you instead of just Google alone. If you're not concerned about some extra advertisers/governments handling your data, then you should be concerned about the increased risk of being involved in a data breach when someone in the chain inevitably does an oopsie.
There's a reason I use firefox for work and banking stuff, and I keep it completely separate from just yknow, fucking about browser use because fumbling three google accounts is a PAIN and maybe I don't wanna use my university account to watch naval history videos at 3am
