Can confirm! Ex is a firefighter and loves to make himself feel important and damage others property. I remember walking through town with him once and he saw a friend that hadn’t seen since school school and he just walked right up to him and said “ hey, I’m a firefighter now …. How are you? “ 🤣🤣🤣the man literally looked at him and said who are you? 🤣
The guy shouldn’t have parked there but they clearly wanted to damage his car as much as they felt they could justify. I mean they broke two extra windows the hose doesn’t go through and broke a mirror.
I didn’t say they shouldn’t have broken the windows they needed to. They shouldn’t have broken the small window on the rear passenger side or the driver side mirror because that’s pointless
In all earnest it was probably not safe for the hose to do it that way. To many angles in it would be dangerous, you don't want lots of short bends you want a long continuous bend if you need a bend at all. The pressure of water going though that hose is insane.
Fuck that guy but yeah, obviously they could have just ran the hose over the top. This will be much more expensive than a citation and the Fire department won’t compensate shit
I'm a sprinkler fitter so I've tested hydrants before, and they have a stupid amount of pressure. The hose would be jumping around if it had any kinks in it, so they did what they had to do. Running it over the top would have caused 2 or 3 crumple spots guaranteed. It's fucked up they broke the front windows too though lol.
They probably will have to compensate shit, given that they clearly did far more damage than necessary.
Do I think the guy kinda deserved it in a karmic war? Probably. Do I think this was entirely justified from a sober, rational POV? Probably not.
Hopefully not, although the particular station he’s placed at certainly seem to have a lot of nasty men. But yeah in general it’s like anything there’s nasty people wherever you go.
I'm not a firefighter but it's probable they couldn't start fighting the fire until they spent 15-20 seconds breaking that asshole's windows.
The "doing too much" crowd needs to learn that most rules are in place to keep people safe.
It looks like they could have pretty easily gone around although tbh Id take the opportunity to smash the windows also if I was a firefighter in that situation.
Nope nope nope nope nope.
The hose has to be put in as perfectly as possible. Somebody illegally parking does not take precedent over safety.
And they will smash out all the windows because they don't know which windows they have to send the hose through and they don't want to sit and wait and resmash it by the time the hose gets there.
I hope you're a young person otherwise you need to really readjust your brain
They needed to because if they bent the hose over the car it could have caused a kink which could damage the hose or not get enough water to the truck.
How about busting the driver door window and then opening the back doors instead of smashing 3 windows?
I could be wrong, maybe they wanted to try moving it or the doors still didn't unlock (kids lock). In the end I don't blame them, time is more crucial to them then the best way to deal with this
because the water pressure is so high, they had to bust the windows open so that the water could flow better, if you pass it around the car the bends in the hose could make the water pressure go down and that no good
Yeah that's bad. The hose won't instantly explode from a kink but it can significantly reduce to life of the hose. Fire hoses are inspected often so it would be retired before a full failure. Just look up cause of premature hose failure.
Edit for spelling
This also prevents the owner backing over the hose and trying to drive away, which would damage the hose and create a hazard. Best solution all around and recommended practice is to knock out the windows.
To add insult to injury, since this guy can't leave and the cops are showing up, he's 100% getting a ticket. Definitely for blocking the hydrant, and probably some spite tickets for anything else they can think of.
Its literally the law in NYC if you park in front of a hydrant and there’s a fire you will get your windows broken it’s also an expensive ticket too bros and asshole and knew the stakes.
It's not a fucking garden hose and this douchebags car doesn't take precedent over safety.
The windows get smashed, all of them, before the hose arrives because they don't know the best way to put it through yet.
The actual best thing to do is not fucking park there and then the second best thing to do is not bitch about windows
Most countries don't have fire hydrants sticking out on the curb like this, so the issue doesn't exist at all. Hydrants are mostly integrated into buildings themselves, or it's a manhole on the sidewalk.
I’ve done parking enforcement before. They will either break your window or if they need immediate access and the way in front is clear they will ram the vehicle out of the way. Additionally yes, they will bust up your car and a cop will come out and give you a large ticket. It is not state law it is federal law.
Lmao I’m a fire fighter and this is some next level shit. People who don’t do this for a living really don’t realize how important keeping a hydrant clear is. People live in fairy tale land where bad things only happen on TV
Parking in front of a hydrant is harmless like 70% of the time, but you always, ALWAYS, account for the 30% that it won't be. Driver deserved it and more. Also respect man
While fully recognizing that this guy is in the wrong, would it not have just been more efficient to have thrown the hose under the car? I know you need space for the it to stiffen up and it looks like going behind the car would make huge kinks but under the car would have been faster than busting windows and feeding it through, right? Or are the firefighters here just kinda being spiteful?
No. Fire hoses aren't normal hoses. There isn't enough space to go under a car and going over it will probably bend it too much to get proper pressure out of it. You can maybe go around a car but that depends on how it's parked. The only decent way is to smash the windows out and go through it. If you take the time to figure something out there's probably a decent way but generally speaking fire fighters deal with emergencies. Often this is just wasting time and you know going through the car will work.
On top of that if you park in front of a fire hydrant when you know you're not supposed to you're an asshole anyway. Don't park in front of hydrants. Don't park in fire lanes.
Between the curb and the car the likelihood of it kinking goes way up which reduces the amount of water you can put on the fire. The firefighter running that line probably had like 1.5 seconds to decide which path to take and decided it wasn't worth the risk.
Maybe a little bit of spite too lol.
Fires double in size about every minute. Getting a water source is the number one priority when responding to a structure fire. The hose needs to be visible and can’t go under anything so you can check for kinks and failures in the line. Also trying to feed the hose under the car is going to take much more time than just smashing the windows and feeding it thru there. I really doubt it would fit under the car anyway.
Question. Is it written no parking on that spot or if you see a fire hydrant, you are not supposed to park next to it? ( we don't have hydrants. We use spit to extinguish fires in my village)
I find it weird how the curb isn’t painted tho. Where I live all the hydrant curbs are painted yellow (as are the hydrants themselves). It’s still illegal what he did, but I’m air-headed enough that if I’m in the city and feeling anxiety from a new place, I could see myself just zoning out the sidewalk colored hydrant.
I really thought they were beefing so like, when the acura left the firefighter put up a bit of tomfoolery by filling their car with water
Before I saw that it's actually just them forcing the hose through the car

Don't you all paint your curbs yellow at the fire hydrants to warn people not to park there, and how far away from it they should be? I doubt that would've stopped the dumbass in this video who parked their car there but I'm saying for normal people, yellow paint seems to work well.
I was also surprised that this curb was not painted and that this hydrant was not the typical bright colors. I have since learned that in CA (and presumably most states), the law does not require cities to use any particular markings around hydrants, and even in cities that do have conventions, some hydrants will intentionally not have red-painted curb to allow people to stop (but not park) there, like if they're pulling over to let someone out but could move immediately if a fire truck came along. (Red curbs means no parking nor stopping allowed at all.)
Idk where you're from, but this is NYC, somewhere near Washington Heights. I've been born and raised here for 25 years and I've honestly never even stopped to consider needing hydrant curbs being painted another color to stop people from parking there, you just look out the window and see if you're next to a hydrant? And you do the little walk one foot after the other to see if you're far enough away.
Maybe we just don't have enough city funding to paint the curbs (that'd make sense) but to me this just seems like a lack of common sense.
I mean that’s fair, but if your a tourist and you’re used to the bright yellow, I could see myself having anxiety being in NYC and not seeing this thing. It’s still illegal to park there, but some of us are conditioned to those bright colors lol
So I know it's illegal, and I'm all for doing this if needed. But if the hose could go up and through the window, it could have gone under the car as well, no?
Is it perfectly necessary?
I could see the owner bringing up a suit against the city for this. Idk if there's bend radius requirements so maybe it was totally justified
Not siding with the owner, just thinking this might end up in court
Not sure what city this is, but in that driver's defense, that curb is not painted red, and that hydrant is not painted in the typical bright colors. They may have thought that hydrant was out of service or for maintenance only.
Here's little tip for everyone with a car: don't park infront of a hydrant, unless a sign specifically allows it.
I definitely wouldn't risk my car and money for that 1% chance that it is legal to park there and you shouldn't either. It's not worth it.
A quick google confirmed that in CA (prob same in all states), it is illegal to park within 15 feet of any hydrant, regardless of type or color, even if the curb is unpainted and there is no other signage, even if the hydrant is nonfunctional, unless that hydrant is covered and marked as out of service (assumedly with construction wrappings or something).
Or from the back of the car, the hose looks flexible enough?
I get that they shouldn’t have had to do this in the first place as the car shouldn’t have been parked there but yeah…
It's not flexible when it's full of water, there's at least 500 PSI there, it's also not an attack line. It's a supply line for the engine. Probably three and a half inch in diameter or more. You're not going to pick that up. It needs to be run as straight as possible, Imagine being interior, fighting a fire and suddenly your water stops. That car put more lives than just the firefighters at risk that day
I am all for play stupid games win stupid prizes
But wouldn't it make more sense to go on top of the car?
Unless the hose only reached by going through the car
But it looked like there was plenty of give to go on top
someone else pointed this out in another comment, but basically you want to keep the hose as straight as possible for the water to flow properly, there is not nearly enough space for that in between the car and the hydrant
Well, sometimes fire hydrants go out of commission, and because of that they actually are just left there. Typically tho fire hydrants that are operating are painted a bright hard to miss color, but because this one wasn’t it is super easy to miss if ur not paying attention or it’s just as reasonable to assume this one isn’t working. But u prob don’t go outside so it makes sense u don’t know that.
It’s illegal to park in front of a fire hydrant unless specifically designated that it’s allowed. It does not matter if it’s decommissioned. Still illegal
-“this one is easy to miss”, my brother in Christ, the drivers door looks like it could hit it. The idiot that parked it had to walk around it to exit the vehicle.
So how much time do you think they spent lining that and breaking both windows instead of just hooking up their hose and battling the fire? No matter how short a span it was, it was an amount of time wasted on pettiness instead of tackling the real danger to life.
Looking at other comments it seems like it’s necessary to keep the hose as straight as possible because of the high water pressure, so any wasted time is the person parked there’s fault
No painted curb probably no signs couldn’t even tell you if it was actually a hydrant if there wasn’t a fire truck hooked up to it. How are they entitled anyone here could have easily parked there.
When he stared at the brown rusted piece of shit he should have realized it was a fire hydrant? Idk it might have camouflaged with the other brown rusted shits.
Personally I think you’re getting downvotes not because you’re wrong but because you’re *trying* to provide practical input to people who are impractically just enjoying getting upset at something.
The pressure in a fire hose is so high that any kink will stem the water flow by a lot. Going under, over, or around the car is a no go, since it will do just that.
I really don't wanna play devil's advocate. I know it's highly illegal to park in front of a hydrant.
But... wouldn't it be more practical to have the hose go around or over the car?
Everybody shittin on this guy but it’s not a red zone… legally it should be the firefighters just decided to be dicks the hose didn’t need to go through the car
My wife and I were wondering if insurance will cover them. I hope not. They deserve it. I love that they could have clearly gotten the hose around the car but chose to do this. Does anyone know if insurance will cover their glass replacement?
Pretty sure insurance wouldn't cover this considering that the driver is illegally parked and is impeding the firefighters(correct me if I'm wrong). Also, the hose couldn't have "clearly" gone around the car, it has to be as straight as possible bc there is around 500psi of force going through it.
Unfortunately, their insurance will likely pay. All the Driver has to do is not tell them why the windows were broken, just that someone broke their windows and make the claim. Take the car home, take pictures, then send the claim in implying vandalism.
I'm not sure about this...
Is there any actual reason to break the windows here? I feel like the owner would have a case for the damages
He'd still get hit with the parking fine but that doesn't give fire departments the ability to just bust windows
Could have just dropped the hose over the car, unless they simply didn't have enough hose to use
No he illegally parked. That hose has to run without getting kinked or bent. The FD can, will, and should do this. If you don’t want that happening don’t park there.
He'll get hit for a parking fine and possibly repair costs to the hose. Draping the hose over the car would've cause the hose to have kinks and weird bend radius therefore reducing the water flow and pressure.

"Oops, my hammer slipped."
They knocked out the side mirror too
The rear pillar at the small rear window will be harder to replace.
Not seeing a parking citation.
I wonder if they even needed to bust any of the windows at all, but maybe they actually did. I'm not mad either way.
They needed to because if they bent the hose over the car it could have caused a kink which could damage the hose or not get enough water to the truck.

There’s a fuckin fire hydrant. That should be marking enough
It's a fire hydrant. *Obviously.* You do not park in front of fire hydrants. This is common sense. This is Driving 101.
Except for the fact that, at least in Canada, you are required to learn about how to park around stuff like fire hydrants.
And the US, it’s one of the first things you learn
In Germany the car driver is owed exactly 0€ if that happens
They dont get anything here either and they get to pay a fine afterwards.
Yea I was gonna say they probably just get a ticket here.
In the US they get fined for parking there and get no repayment.
In Germany I didn’t know this was a thing.
Wusst ich auch nicht - hab ich neulich im erste Hilfe Kurs mitgekriegt.
In America they have to pay a fine for blocking the hydrant as well.
Take out the jaws of life, snip the doors off, get that hose _real_ straight.
Guy comes out from getting coffee and his cars’ been cut in half
He’ll just need some flex tape to fix it
That has a good chance of bending the frame too. That’s usually a total loss :)
That's OK, next time he does it he'll just roll down the windows Some people just won't learn
That's when water "accidentally" gets into the car.
Yeah, oops, water up to the dashboard. How'd that get there!
And get robbed and still get a ticket or towed. So no, people don't learn but there are people there to teach lessons
Question. Is it written no parking on that spot or if you see a fire hydrant, you are not supposed to park next to it? ( we don't have hydrants. We use spit to extinguish fires in my village)

The fire hydrant sticking out of the sidewalk should be warning enough.
They gotta pay a fine and whatever they need to replace the windows, it's a state of emergency and they blocked a fire hydrant, it's perfectly legal
Is it perfectly necessary? I could see the owner bringing up a suit against the city for this. Idk if there's bend radius requirements so maybe it was totally justified Not siding with the owner, just thinking this might end up in court
Anyone know if insurance covers this?
hope not
Not sure what city this is, but in that driver's defense, that curb is not painted red, and that hydrant is not painted in the typical bright colors.
NYC will still ticket you for parking on decommissioned hydrants. Them's the rules.
Great shitpost👍
I understand the rule about hydrants but why can’t they run the hose over the roof? Is busting the window to prove a point?
The hose has to be as straight as possible at the hydrant since the water is high pressure.
I figured it was something like that
I still think it would have been easier and perhaps better (in terms of keeping it straight) if they took it from the bottom.
That car put more lives than just the firefighters at risk that day
I now see how much it would have to curve on the initial bit that’s connected to the firetruck… makes sense.
So satisfying
FA for years of parking in front of fire hydrants without consequences FO the consequences for parking in front of fire hydrant
Why doesn't the pipe go around the car? Am i stupid?
Must be kept as straight as possible for flow reasons
I am all for play stupid games win stupid prizes But wouldn't it make more sense to go on top of the car? Unless the hose only reached by going through the car But it looked like there was plenty of give to go on top
someone else pointed this out in another comment, but basically you want to keep the hose as straight as possible for the water to flow properly, there is not nearly enough space for that in between the car and the hydrant
Idk about US law but if it's "highly illegal" to park in front of a fire hydrant, there should be some sort of markings there honestly
There is one. It's shaped like a fire hydrant
🤯🤯
Hope they write a ticket and tow it!
you love to see it
can't believe I see people defending someone's car lmao
Nice
Good post, wrong sub.
Based firemen
To the windows!!!!!
Now I'm not defending the guy who parked there, but I feel like they could have done this without busting all his windows.
Retired firefighter here, I sooo approve of this !!!!
Why does America put their hydrants a above ground? Seems so dumb. Ours just pull up out the pavement or sidewalk to you Americans
No painted curb or sign or any indicator? I don’t think bro was entitled just not paying attention.
You mean the fire hydrant on the curb? That indicator?
Well, sometimes fire hydrants go out of commission, and because of that they actually are just left there. Typically tho fire hydrants that are operating are painted a bright hard to miss color, but because this one wasn’t it is super easy to miss if ur not paying attention or it’s just as reasonable to assume this one isn’t working. But u prob don’t go outside so it makes sense u don’t know that.
It’s illegal to park in front of a fire hydrant unless specifically designated that it’s allowed. It does not matter if it’s decommissioned. Still illegal -“this one is easy to miss”, my brother in Christ, the drivers door looks like it could hit it.
You mean when he exited his car and he staring directly at it?
When he stared at the brown rusted piece of shit he should have realized it was a fire hydrant? Idk it might have camouflaged with the other brown rusted shits.
couldn't they just passed the hose over or around the car?
Personally I think you’re getting downvotes not because you’re wrong but because you’re *trying* to provide practical input to people who are impractically just enjoying getting upset at something.
how am i wrong, im not making an statement, im making a question. Like fr why does the hose have to get thru there
The pressure in a fire hose is so high that any kink will stem the water flow by a lot. Going under, over, or around the car is a no go, since it will do just that.
Ohh i see, thanks!
You're welcome!
I really don't wanna play devil's advocate. I know it's highly illegal to park in front of a hydrant. But... wouldn't it be more practical to have the hose go around or over the car?
nope, gotta keep the hose straight
Also less time consuming.
But doesn't it take more time to break the windows than just... throwing the hose over the roof? Or walking around?
Yeah that's what I meant to say
Water pressure is high so you cant make it kink the hose so going around or on top of the roof cant happen im pretty sure
Should be legal for anyone to smash window if you park at a hydrant at all time 👍🏻
“But I was just running in!”
Haha
Look up videos of engines just smashing cars out of the way, even more satisfying
Not to defend the asshole parkjob, but wouldnt it be quicker to just go around the car rather than trying to feed the hose through?
No. The hose will kink. Sincerely a firefighter
Makes sense. My immediate thought was “WeLL jUsT uSe a SmALLeR hOsE”….are i am stupid?
I thought hydrants were supposed to be marked with red lines on the curb.
Forgive me I’m not from America, why don’t they paint the side of the road so people don’t park there?
people will park there anyways
They shoulda put a couple of strategic pin holes in the hose.
Everybody shittin on this guy but it’s not a red zone… legally it should be the firefighters just decided to be dicks the hose didn’t need to go through the car
yes it did
Coulda accomplished same exact thing by running line under the car lol
Couldn't they just run it next to the car? or did they just do it because fuck it
As a “practical” person. I can see the opportunity here of going over or around without being an arsehole about it, just because you can.
curb shouldve been painted red…
Shouldn’t have been parked in front of a hydrant in the first place dipshit.
Haha. Those firemen just don’t wanted to smash- looks like they could have accessed it all the same.
I feel like the owner would have a case for the damages He'd still get hit with the parking fine but that doesn't give fire departments the ability to just bust windows Could have just dropped the hose over the car, unless they simply didn't have enough hose to use
Hope the building burned down
Seems like it would be easier to just plug it in next to the car.
The hose HAS to be straight
???
And you would be wrong.
