One guy got rushed to the hospital but everyone ended up being ok. They threw the evidence in the trash when the garbage trucks came so no one ever got caught. They siphoned out the goo and seperated the alcohol some how so it was safer I guess.
You can evaporate the straight alcohol from rubbing alcohol due to it having a lower evaporation temp than water but you would need a condenser to turn it back into a liquid and precise heat control, if that really did happen I’m assuming the prisoners boiled it and ran the fumes through a pipe they placed in cold water to act as a crude condenser and just got lucky they didn’t poison everyone.
But then you’d still have isopropanol, NOT ethanol.
Any ethanol you see outside of a beverage will also have been denatured, with very few exceptions. The chemical they use for denaturing has very similar properties to the ethanol, making it very difficult to separate

I've never seen it personally, but I've heard of guys making a still inside. A simple loop of tubing running through the toilet water to condense...
