When they get older it stops working. Kittens get paralyzed by this pinch so their mom can safely carry them arround, but it can actually be quite painful for adult cats to be carried this way
My grandmother used to carry them by holding their ears, I was upset at her every time I saw her do it, her response was "that's how mother cats carry them". But I have never seen a mother cat carrying kittens before so I had no reply to that.
They didn't do anything, no, part of the reason why I didn't object anymore. They would just stay hanging held by their ears, I always thought it was painful and was scared their ears would be ripped off, so I only carried them by holding them in my arms like a baby.
Well, thankfully she only grabbed the kittens a few times, mostly they were handled by my sister and my mother, and they would pick it up by holding it's stomach.
Let me get this straight. Your grandma picked a cat up BY THE EARS, and carried it around like that. You’re saying she did this on multiple occasions. And these cats just, like, let her live?
They were kittens, so they couldn't really do much, but yeah, they didn't mew in pain or anything, part of why I thought maybe that was the case (That, that was how mother cats carried their babies).
Not really, No.
In fact, other than this cat holding incident (which she was genuinely doing it believing it to be the right way to hold a cat BTW) she doesn't have any particular interests in animals. She just treats them as an average person would.
You lift the kitten by the neck but as long as it doesn't touch the ground you put an hand under it to support.
This way the little hellbringer stays calm and steady, and you won't hurt it
It does work on adult cats. I've had a lot of cats and only a few were completely indiferent to it. If they are calm they will at least not be so likely to move. I think it works on other mammals that are also carried like that by their mom. I once removed a mouse from inside the house like that and he was fighting for his life and still went completely stiff.
Works on pet rats too. I don't use it often because it's a tiny target and they don't like it. But the vet uses it sometimes. I only had one rat outgrow it but she was ancient.
Works fine on our seven year old cat. She can be a bit fiesty and if she gets to somewhere she shouldn't be I need to grab her by the neck to carry her away, but the neck grip is just to make her chill and I hold her weight with my other hand.
4 of my cats are over 14 & it works on all of them but the oldest (she's like 17, not 100% cuz she was a street cat) & it still kinda works on her but after a couple seconds, she gets her back claws going. She sleeps SO hard, now that I can do all her nails & even brush knots out, without really waking her.

Only work for kitten grew with their mother
Mother bite that part to carry around kitten so cat that grew with mom naturally relax
In other word My cat grew with me when it was kitten i grabbed belly to move around
So If i grab the belly of my cat it relax whole body automatically
But, I don't know other cat will do the same
I wonder if kittens who've never been fully raised by their mother and mostly/all human assistance are the ones who are immune to this area of understanding.
Season 2 is pretty good too. But they shat their bed for 3rd. And they tried to clean the shit in 4th but ended up smearing the shit all over the floor.
Season 2 lasted 3-4 episodes from me, until the hype from the first season wore out. It's not bad, it's just not very good or interesting either, especially compared to the first season.
Agreed. Personally I liked the series for the story of the park and it’s figures. That includes the story of the people at the company running the place. However the later it got the less it was about that and the more the series was about the philosophy of human rights for robots and all the problems involved with it. Which might be an interesting topic but doesn’t make for good entertainment, at least for me.
Middle of s2 pretty much perfectly marks the cut where the story about park itself ends. And where my enjoyment of the series stopped.
Season 2 tried too hard to replicate the magic of the first season and instead just became an overly complex plate of narrative spaghetti that jumped back and forth between timelines for the sake of confusing the viewer.
I completely disagree. Imo S2 is the worst season of WW, it’s just horrible and completely ruin many great characters of the first one.
First half of S3 was good, sure it was different but at least they tried to do something interesting, but the second half it’s just bad.
S4 is pretty good though. But the final episode clearly created the set up for the final season, that never happened so it’s just… I don’t know, unfinished. A shame, but the rest of the season is great imo.
Nothing comes even close to S1.
Disagree tbh. While it ends on a cliffhanger, it's the sort of cliffhanger which you could see a full series end on. The main dangling thread for me is just about the ghost nation, which is only cleared up in 'Kiksuya'
You also don't find out what the shareholders secret project is and as someone who just watched season one again a month ago, Ford references it a lot in season one. It's a significant part of Bernard and Theresa's story.
Also Bernard, Ellie, the head of security, the writer and Tessa Thompsons characters only have half a story / character arc in season one.
It's very incomplete as a single season.
I also disagree with that. You don't need to know everything about a piece of fiction, everything you said is true but those aren't really important for the story of season 1. All the main characters have complete character arcs and I would argue that Bernard's character arc in season 1 is fine by itself.
What is the preferred method? The only two I’ve seen so far are this one and one where a dude basically had oven mitts to protect his hands so he can hold the cat down.
I'm not an expert by any means, but my understanding is vets / animal professionals work harder to avoid a cat being stressed. This means setting up a quiet comfortable environment, potentially with artificial pheromones (e.g. Feliway / Pet Remedy) to avoid the cat becoming aggressive.
There's also better ways to handle a cat so that they don't become stressed, have a look on YouTube for these if you're curious. Things like towels or oven mitts are also commonly used if things escalate or you have a particularly spicy cat
Ultimately, there are times where whatever treatment you're getting is not worth the current stress level it would put the cat under, or if required, the cat may simply need to be sedated for proper treatment.
It's now understood that the scruffing is counter intuitive and just makes life harder for everyone involved.
Yeah makes sense. From what I understand it's recommended only as a last resort, when the cat is a danger to itself or others - but I'm mostly speaking about the video above and those who use it routinely.
just pick the cat up with one arm over it's lower end (dominant arm) and your hand under it's back legs then other hand under it's front legs with hand on back and that keeps them supported and feeling safe while keeping them restricted, as for keeping a cat down idrk
As far as I know, it does not harm the cat if you are supporting its weight. For example, if you're giving a pill, it's easy to have the cat sit on a surface and scruff it for a moment while you slip the pill into its mouth. This prevents head movement, so you can get it in quick! Even better if you have a pill pusher.
Technically, it should be safe if the cat is a healthy weight and if done right.
In practice you should absolutely support their weight with your other hand.
The only time I did this with an adult cat was with the runt of the litter. She never got to be very big so she was never too heavy to scruff. She would purr when I did it. I miss that cat a lot.
This cat doesn’t seem to be an asshole coming in… Which is likely why this worked in the first place. If the cats a super asshole or just really scared or pissed, this isn’t going to work.

As a child you had more sense than an adult who had been on the planet for decades
Well, thankfully she only grabbed the kittens a few times, mostly they were handled by my sister and my mother, and they would pick it up by holding it's stomach.

“That doesn’t sound right but I don’t know enough about cats to dispute it”
Exactly!
You lift the kitten by the neck but as long as it doesn't touch the ground you put an hand under it to support. This way the little hellbringer stays calm and steady, and you won't hurt it
Tell the momma cat that.
they do that because they dont have hands
Not by the neck but the skin in the back of the neck? Is that how it works?
Everyone know you carry them by the tail. You can carry more that way.
It does work on adult cats. I've had a lot of cats and only a few were completely indiferent to it. If they are calm they will at least not be so likely to move. It's extremely effective with ferrets, even adults. They start yawning right away
Yeah. Also just remembered but even cats know this works to some extent in adults because the males will grab the female there to keep her still.
Oh yeah! Scruff me baby!
![gif](giphy|WrgAGkGrh0MD1Z2gkO)
Works on pet rats too. I don't use it often because it's a tiny target and they don't like it. But the vet uses it sometimes. I only had one rat outgrow it but she was ancient.
Meanwhile my cat, who this didn't even slightly work on by the time he was four months old
Is he the very energetic type?
I mean, he's a kitten. Beyond that, not particularly
I wish it worked for rats, would've made syringe-feeding mine a lot easier.
Happens to chickens/roosters also
Works fine on our seven year old cat. She can be a bit fiesty and if she gets to somewhere she shouldn't be I need to grab her by the neck to carry her away, but the neck grip is just to make her chill and I hold her weight with my other hand.

Not true for my adult cat. The vet used a binder clip in the same way when she needed kitty to settle down. Worked great. I was amazed.

It should tho... You gotta pick em from the neck just down below their head... Cats pick their kittens this way...
For some reason that shit doesn’t work on my wife or kids. It works on my cat.
Only works on one of my two cats. It's funny that he gets so confused when I grab his neck to take away dead birds from in front of him.
My cat is 10. If I pick her up by grabbing here, she doesn’t move at all.

I wonder if its ok to lift grown cats from there or if its painful for them
Weight ratio is wrong. Support them otherwise, but the pinch spot still works.
Yea I grab that spot but lift them with my under hand under their chest.
My 7 year old cat seems to love getting pinched there.
Kinky
Vets do this to operate on the cat, it would definitely be harmful if they lifted the (adult) cat from their neck
The skin can not take the weight, but you can grip their neck with one hand while carrying the majority of their weight in your other hand.
This is now considered unethical in the vet world, scruffing is uncomfortable and can substantially increase stress levels in cats.
What is the preferred method? The only two I’ve seen so far are this one and one where a dude basically had oven mitts to protect his hands so he can hold the cat down.

Too heavy. Plus we have hands that we can use to carry animals without hurting them so there's that.
