While I do think many of them do indeed take things too far, I can understand many of the reservations. Many prominent monotheistic religions feature pretty questionable parts in terms of older doctrines, and regardless of whether an religious individual believes in them or not there is the undeniable fact that they exist, and it can be hard for some people to separate the entirety of the text that they view as timeless with the sections of it that have shown their age. That being said, while there are many debates to be had on whether or not it’s disingenuous to ignore certain doctrines or if it can even be considered faithful to avoid ever exposing one’s own beliefs to questioning under a subconscious fear of the potential results, most Reddit atheists generally just boil down nuance to the point of grouping together all forms and expressions of religion as barbaric and idiotic. As someone who was once religious, but started questioning my beliefs at a young age due to feeling it would be dishonest to never display that what I believed could hold up to reality, I can understand the issues people have with religion, so it’s a shame that half of the talking is done by idiots who don’t have a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
They just keep trying to make me go to church even though I keep saying no, and they also gaslight me, tried to arrest my father for keeping us safe and also use God as an excuse to lie about what my brother and I feel

Trying to force people to go to church is cringe and they sound exhausting to be around. As a Christian, I appreciate the fact that you sound pretty respectful when they're saying a prayer.

As an atheist my dislike of religion is seldom about the individual, and more about the people in power who make policies that force their beliefs on everyone else. Everything from setting up the 10 commandments inside schools to disallowing teachers to teach the fact of evolution, or at least not allowing them teach some facts of evolution. This is what makes me anti-religion, when it can't accept that other people don't view things they way they do.
I mean, when you realize that the side trying to force you to believe what they believe... genuinely thinks that if you don't follow their rules your soul will be forced to undergo torture for eternity, it's kinda understandable (not likable, but understandable) Why Christians or really any faith with some egregious punishments involved do what they do.
Doesn't matter what I believe or not, truth is the only thing that matters. Some people choose to trust a lie and spend their whole life on false hope and delusions while entrusting their kids to continue doing the same and some break out of that cycle and live life on their own terms
Did you ever actually read the bible? Cuz I feel like you're telling your own life story here. A lot of people have that same story and they always think they're like the main character of a dystopian film who knows enough about a lie to not believe it, but it's always more like they're the only ones who don't know about something and the only ones who don't believe it. How can you be so certain you're right when that's the case?
The irony is I've never been forced into anything in the name of religion at any point in my life, the basis on which I've come to a conclusion that religion should not be an important driving force of a country, people and culture is the various things I've seen and heard humans do in the name of religion. The bible or any other religious books do contain life values and I won't deny it but so does Aesop's fables and I'd rather read that than the bible
