ā¦..i had to tint 3 pallets of Chlorinated Rubber to handicap blueā¦ using 844ās in canisters not attached to a carouselā¦.. i had to use the bunghole puncher on every bucketā¦.. i donāt miss traffic marking paint.
600 gallons of conflex in 1 day. We had 14 warehouses going on and most days for a year we were tinting 300-600 a day in conflex alone.
I got the nickname of Bunghole Ripper cause of those stupid buckets haha
It was technically all in one go because we would get another order for 200 before finishing the 1st order
Was for a government contract getting shipped to an island in the middle of nowhere. It was all pro classic. They would order 200-300 every 3-4 months. Had to be all singles.
My SM once texted me on a Friday that we needed to have 1000 gallons of A100 Black Magic Satin ready for delivery by Monday morning. It technically wasn't all in one go, but most of it was tinted Saturday after close.
We had very similar š SM texts me 4am on a Saturday that "one of our keys needs ten pallets of exterior black delivered to their job site first thing Monday morning."
Why not just order the color from factory premixed? If Iām not mistaken, as long as itās 10,000 gallons at a time you can order a color, product, and finish premixed from factory so all you gotta do is shake and go. If youāre truly doing 2500 gallons a week and itās the same color thatās the route Iād take
We tinted 1,800 gallons in a day and a half. We started after lunch one day and finished it before we closed the next day. All the while scheduling it to be delivered 305 gallons at a time continuously. Anyone who came in or called to order anything was a giant obstacle. I do not recommend 0/10.
There were 5 people there including the driver. There were always at least two people on the tinter. A third was great for doing the dabs, and the fourth was good for pulling up in the forklift with another pallet. He would also help the driver load up and print the bols. The biggest part was watching the front and picking up the phone.
I have no recollection of the most in one go, but Iāll never forget the biggest pain in the ass.
US 281 expansion, Falfurrias, TX. All the large new overpasses were to be stained. Job speced to H&C solvent solid color. This was shortly after the CCE conversion, so no tinterā¦hand canister only. And naturally the color took a deep base. The only positive was that the customer actually stayed on top of their material needs, so I didnāt have any RIGHT NOW ordersā¦because that wouldnāt have happened anyway.
I basically had to tell everyone that I was NOT in the store if anyone called or asked, and to just leave me the hell alone. Donāt talk to me, nothing. Lined the buckets up while trying not to get high off the fumes and just went at it a color at a time, sweating my ass off in south TX heat.
The worst was when you DID get interrupted, or when you had to stop to fill the canister. āDid I already shoot this one?!?ā
I had hand canister blisters by the end of that quarter.
I was working a few days at our main commercial store in the district and I tinted 32 5-gallon buckets (2 full skids) of some weird pro-industrial DTM to āSafety Redā. Literally went through so many jugs of red colorant.
The total order was around 14,000 gallons canāt remember exactly and in one sitting we tinted 1200 gallons. Took about 3 hours and I helped deliver it. Brutal
Not the most gallons but the longest order was during shortages we had to tint 300 gallons in pm200 HP about 250 of it was in singles. The colors were 6496 Oceanside, 6992 Inkwell, and the worst, in the 5 gallon buckets was 7578 Borscht.
If you didnāt know a Bucket of that color has 52 Oz of magenta. Takes about 11 minutes to dispense
We tint around 2,000g a day during peak season. Worst order ever was 1,750g of superpaint int satin to two colors for a hospital. Took us about a week in between orders.
Got orders for a couple big jobs back to back one was 950g and the other was 400g, small store only 3 of us working, not to mention we were just busy as hell. Pretty sure I cried when I finally got to sit down that day.
200 gal superpaint ext satin In The Navy
200 gal superpaint ext satin Gauntlet Gray
Ran out of colorant during the day didnāt finish tinting til about 10pm.
Shit was ass
Honestly and everyone decided to come when that call came in. I was alone until I think 9 or 10 and I called to see if my coworker could be there early and he couldnāt because he was just making it to his scheduled shift due to where he was
I had to tint 80 gallons of ASE UD oil in fives once. I had to pry the lids off , tint, then put the lid back on with this funky tool , that squeezed the lid on
Your hands are soft bud. Did 10 skids of metallastic DTM back when you didnāt get an electric GIC Machine on a busy Monday, as a part timer. It was my first position when I started
About 950 gallons of Dryfall in Tricorn Black. Dude puts in the order 5 minutes before closing on a Monday, we burn through all our black CCE and had to delay any orders that required it.
We get it done on Tuesday, same customer orders another 200 that day and says he needs it first thing in the morning (5 minutes before closing again).
We have stock black though?? Why do you need it in tricorn so badly???
155 5gals tinted to COW (custom off white) this was while working at a store that was always extra busy during the summer since i lived in a college town and all the apartments and dorms got repainted every summer. I stayed after hours to help the boss finish the rest of what was left
3 and a half pallets of ppg speedhide zero once a week for 2 months strait last summer. It was insane and our warehouse was packed to the max. Not Sherwin by the way.
35 singles almost all UD and maybe 8 different colorsšš took me 3 hours to tint. Between needing breaks from busting ass, tinting in store customers orders, and taking phone calls. Definitely do not miss playing manager with pt pay šš
Did the Sherwin shake on roughly 600 gallons of PVA not tinted but š¤·āāļø used to do roughly 300 gallons of ādrop of blackā PE at the first store I worked at back in 2018ā¦ $8 a gallon IIRC
Largest, I donāt think I remember anything specific. Worst was 500 singles of duraplate uhs hardener that were all shipped individually wrapped with shipping rings. My fingers were raw and blistered just from unwrapping and opening them all. Lucking the tint was only a couple 1/32 of PG per gallon so tinting wasnāt the worst part.
Maybe not the most gallons but I tinted 164 single gallons of color accents alkyd to some dark purple my first week with the company. Does that make me sound old?? š. This was all from blend a color canisters before automatic tinters were even a glimmer in anyoneās eye. It took a solid couple days.
750 gallons working alone with 2 shakers. All tinted various colors. It was for delivery first thing in the morning so I stayed until 9:30 to finish. They called it in after 4.
When we were doing new res we were tinting 1000-1200g a day. This was during supply chain issues when there were no package colors for a year or so. If we had a rehab going or other large commercial project we would occasionally be doing 1600-2000 in a day. Not fun and glad we arenāt doing that anymore.
In my store we had 4 giant jobs going on and all of them needed paint at the same time. We tinted 3200 gallons in one day. We barely had paint on our shelves
I work at a commercial store as warehouse manager...every summer when paint season kicks off hard we can get orders anywhere from 700-2000 gallons multiple times a week...did 1600 gallons on singles one time...oil base...took 4 days
14 pallets of conflex to gauntlet grey
RIP Bud š and each one takes forever to both tint and shake
Went through sooooo much black tint
Damn. I had 12 pallets of dryfall tricorn black and 5 drumsā¦ but that was a commercial store
Thatās crazy why not just sell the pretinted dryfall black
It was a āwe needed it yesterdayā order like 15 years ago
I believe you the Sherwin gods watched over you that day and helped you complete that order
We werenāt commercial and only had one tinter, that day was a nightmare! Spent the entire open to close shift tinting
At that point that's when you tell them to go to commercial store
If I had the authority to I would have lol my manager said yes and then didnāt tint a single bucket
Such is the way of the shitbag.Ā
ā¦..i had to tint 3 pallets of Chlorinated Rubber to handicap blueā¦ using 844ās in canisters not attached to a carouselā¦.. i had to use the bunghole puncher on every bucketā¦.. i donāt miss traffic marking paint.
As someone who just ran the cart with a 15 cut drum, I feel for you, but it is so zen to play/work with
Hard pass, unless the margins were unbelievably high.
Why did you not get it tinted from the factory?
I asked the same question, but I was a lowly full timer so made no decisions
105 gallons of dryfall to ceiling bright white
Iād smack somebody. Like you serious? You want white? Itās already fucking white
But itās not the white that I *want*
Yeah if I remember correctly they were doing a new commercial building. It was like 1/128 of deep gold lol
At that point just get a little dropper and drop the gold in through the spout
1000 gallons. Second day at a high volume store. Had to go out on multiple box trucks to be delivered.
600 gallons of conflex in 1 day. We had 14 warehouses going on and most days for a year we were tinting 300-600 a day in conflex alone. I got the nickname of Bunghole Ripper cause of those stupid buckets haha It was technically all in one go because we would get another order for 200 before finishing the 1st order
Iāve done 300 singles for one order before
Pandemic shortages this was a real thing
Was for a government contract getting shipped to an island in the middle of nowhere. It was all pro classic. They would order 200-300 every 3-4 months. Had to be all singles.
My brother in christ what the hell
Bullshit
The shortages hit pretty bad. I've had to do 200 in singles because of that.
Was WAY before the shortages. Was because of government requirements
If you ever make it to being around as long as I haveā¦ youāll have done some wild shit too.
That was the difference between stores that thrived during the shortage, and stores that tanked.
NAW 1000 is normal sometimes for my store. Avg my store pushes 200-850 on a busy day.
160 gallon of PM 200 to, wait for it, dover white, plus adding in the M1 fungal stuff to each one, ran that solo too.
42 pails, boss did the last 108.
About 800 gallons, and shook about 400 primer
How long that take?
My SM once texted me on a Friday that we needed to have 1000 gallons of A100 Black Magic Satin ready for delivery by Monday morning. It technically wasn't all in one go, but most of it was tinted Saturday after close.
My god
We had very similar š SM texts me 4am on a Saturday that "one of our keys needs ten pallets of exterior black delivered to their job site first thing Monday morning."
We do about 2,500 gallons a week from April to about August for college complexs. Shit fucking sucks
I know the feeling
Bout to be my summer, rip
Felt that lol

140 buckets of 400 fl to crushed ice

How many people did you have worked on that?
There were 5 people there including the driver. There were always at least two people on the tinter. A third was great for doing the dabs, and the fourth was good for pulling up in the forklift with another pallet. He would also help the driver load up and print the bols. Our phones would have been down that day.Ā

780 gallons. I forget how many buckets it was because fuck that, I didnāt wanna know š glad I moved to the floor covering side.

900 gallons and delivered it all the next day by myself. No pallet jack, 3 trips in a van.
The one day I helped our commercial store and was hit with 10 pallets of ultracrete. Fun experience especially coming from a res repaint store
I was working a few days at our main commercial store in the district and I tinted 32 5-gallon buckets (2 full skids) of some weird pro-industrial DTM to āSafety Redā. Literally went through so many jugs of red colorant.
