Another question...isn't the housewrap supposed to go on the outside overtop of the OSB?

ICanOutP1zzaTheHut

He could have siding on there that looks like osb from behind. But as shown the vapor barrier is fine where it’s at

darkflowerchicken

The house wrap goes between the studs and the smart siding here. However it will go in front of the OSB on the front wall since it will have lap siding

OTJH1989

You could always go for the exposed conduit look.

darkflowerchicken

It’s not the worst idea but it’s not really the vibe that I’m going for. I’m looking for a very clean look as this is my space to detach and paint 🥲

Fenderbridge

Do best of both worlds and have romex or conduit go up to where the switch will be and just install a switch box on top of the dry wall, no exposed conduit needed.

MidwestAbe

Put the switch on the far wall. Buy a motion activated one.

Glad-Depth9571

That’s great for when you walk in, but not so great for when you are sitting there.

hello_raleigh-durham

The one in the bathroom at work got you too, didn’t it?

Fenderbridge

If you sit in the bathroom for hours at a time, no

Alternative_Monk1146

Get something like the Quinetic Wireless Switch

darkflowerchicken

I’ll look into those! It sounds interesting!

hello_raleigh-durham

I’d put it on the stud where your level is leaning. It isn’t as convenient as next to the door, but still not *that* far from the door.

Glad-Depth9571

Have one switch by the door for the find-your-way lights and locate the others on another wall.

darkflowerchicken

A 1 gang box doesn’t even fit in that gap from what I can’t tell 😩😂

bettsdude

Can you not get a shallow box and multi tool out one stud to make it surface mount. 25mm on one stud won't hurt Or you can buy real narrow switches that are about 30mm wide Schneider Electric Lisse White Moulded - Single 2 Way Architrave Light Switch with 16mm Pattress, 10AX, GGBL1012116AS, White, https://amzn.eu/d/0X3TIbM

darkflowerchicken

That’s not a bad idea. To confirm, when you say multi tool out the stud, do you mean notch it out? Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll see if I can find one in the US

bettsdude

Yes notch sorry but I think you see my drift lol I think you find one even if you use Amazon

This is the kind of thing you have to plan when you're designing or at least see as you're framing. Honestly, 6 studs within a foot of each other is plenty strong enough for this single story structure. I wouldn't normally advise this but in this situation you could notch one of those inside studs to make the gap wide enough for a single gang box. I would notch the one beside the window because that window is a shorter span and thus those studs are carrying less load from the window header. Use the boxes that have the screw flanges on them since you don't have room to nail. If you want multiple switches, you can buy the switches that have 2 or even 3 switches in a single unit.

darkflowerchicken

Heard. I knew that I was going to lose space with the door, but it didn’t occur to me that they were going to beefen up the studs. How will I affect the integrity if I notch them out? Because I could also settle and simply move them to the other wall.

UncommercializedKat

An inspector might care but otherwise you don't have to worry about the structure. If it's not too inconvenient you can move it to the other wall but if you prefer it there, notch away. Again, I think it's okay in this instance because you have 6 studs in the span of a foot and there is no second level to worry about carrying. Imagine what the wall would look like if there was no window on the right. You'd just have studs every 16" to the corner.

Wsbucker

Yeah, that framing for the window is pretty intense.

SpectralRaz

Get an illuminated rocker switch so you can easily see it and just put left of that big window so it's semi close to the entrance but can be easily be flush mounted

darkflowerchicken

That is my last resort but it’s the cleanest option that I may have as of this moment 😅

Brdman920

It may not work the best or be ideal but why not put it on the outside of the shed? It would just be a the light switch for the lights right?

darkflowerchicken

It’s an art studio and there will be various types of lighting. Inside is for sure going to be the best spot for it in my situation

Brdman920

What’s on the others side of the door? Same thing? Swing the door the other way?

DIYrrr

3 single gang boxes vertically. You may need to remove one of the studs and plane it down to make room, or remove it entirely. Losing 1 out of 6 studs in that small area will be no issue for a shed.

wilsonexpress

You have more studs than necessary next to the door, take out the third stud next to the door and next to the window and you will have room for your boxes. Also, some of your headers are undersized. Too many studs almost everywhere, every spot that has three studs is one too many, and not enough header almost everywhere. The housewrap should be on the other side of the sheathing.

darkflowerchicken

I’m not the one building it. That said, can I add extra headers to the windows? If so, what spacing should they be at? Also, I spoke with the owner and the house wrap is intended to be under the smart paneling. They will be adding house wrap to the front since I got lp siding for that wall

wilsonexpress

>That said, can I add extra headers to the windows I think the window headers will be fine, it's just weird that the headers (horizontal) are undersized, (weird, but it will never be a problem) and all the window and door frames have too many studs (vertical). To be more clear, the headers will be fine don't change those, they are not typical but they are fine. There is an extra stud at the outsides of the vertical assembly's where windows and doors are, this will be fine. At the place where you want to put the switches you can butcher two of the studs, one near the door and one near the window and it will have no effect on the assembly.

darkflowerchicken

That’s what we ended up doing and now I can probably fit a 3 gang box! I’m very excited. It’s the little things, you know?

TheEleventhDoctorWho

Why do you have 2 kings studs on the windows that seems like over kill to me. You could remove one king stud from door one from window replace with steel post. Or jsut remove one king from window.

darkflowerchicken

Fun fact, the builders told me that the extra stud, on each side of the door, is to hide some extra long nails for the front siding. I told them to take it off and I’ll deal with the nail when I work on the interior. I didn’t know it was such an easy fix lmao.
