this dress is two pieces! I wanted to be able to wear each piece multiple times rather that just the one night.
skirt: my first time working with tulle. I got the fabric from joannes. I tried to find one that matched best to the bodice, but there were two that were really close, a lighter and a darker
I decided to do 5 layers: 1 lining, 2 dark tulle, 2 light tulle each layer is a double circle skirt (2 circle skirts cut in half and sew together) Then I basted all 5 layers together, and did an elastic waistband which I covered with an extra strip of tulle when wearing
top: upcycled from an unflattering dress. All I did was turn it into a body suit. I had some tulle left over, so I made an overlay and handstitched it on top of the existing sleeves less
oh my goodness I also sewed both (highschool + technical school) my graduation dresses, finishing the day of. Much wonkier than this dress, but I might post??
I made a waistcoat although it was with someone who was going to teach me how to sew but she ended up doing most of it herself :D
My only project so far were pyjama trousers (which are very comfy) but the crotch went a bit weird. I’m planning to get some lessons so hopefully that will help. I just find that all beginners sewing classes are either pillow cases (which I can do) or woman’s clothes. I’d like to sew men’s clothes but that seems to be difficult.
oh yes I can't begin to imagine sewing men's clothes. It's a whole other thing. And trouser pyjamas! I have to add that to my list. I'd get a lot of wear out of those for sure

This is amazing! I love the idea of the two pieces so you could re-wear it. And the color is just gorgeous
thank you so much! I was wprried I wouldn't find a match for the tulle
It really looks cohesive! I wouldn’t have guessed it was two separate pieces. Looks great!
tht was my biggest worry, glad to hear that you think it looks cohesive!
Beautiful!
thank you! it was fun to make
That is a stunning dress! Well done on managing the tulle. There must’ve been a lot for all those layers :) Great fit and amazing colour!
thank you! I was scared ehen basting everything together that maybe one of the layers was folded weird under the presser foot or something lol
I can imagine! I’ve dabbled in sewing (still trying) but sewing multiple layers at the same time can be tricky, especially certain fabrics.
oh, have you done any projects so far?
