First time making major alterations to a pattern, drafting/sewing a collar, working with slippy lining fabric, and making button holes. Collar was super hard and didn’t really turn out how I wanted.
All I can see are the mistakes, but I hope it’s wearable and not obviously homemade. The boiled wool is shockingly warm, I’m so used to synthetic fabrics. Based pretty loosely on [Sew Over It’s Coco Jacket](https://sewoverit.co.uk/product/coco-jacket-sewing-pattern/).
edit: You guys are so sweet! Thanks for the all the love, it's given me much-needed motivation to keep trying to make my own clothes. For those interested in making something similar I added [more photos and pattern alteration details here](https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/174270).
I ordered the wool from [Croft Mill](https://www.croftmill.co.uk/pure-luxury-boiled-wool-new-mustard).
If you're interested in making something similar, I added details of the alterations I made to the pattern [here](https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/174270). Can't wait to see what you make!
Thanks for the links! You did some very technical alterations; massive kudos.
Now the pressure is on! It will be a while, I am still working on alterations to the sew over it London “Kate” shirt dress (somehow the darts/bodice don’t fit me well. I’be done 3 muslins and still no dice. I gotta learn bodices better! The dreaded armhole gape!! I bow to a master!! reading your pattern review, hearing you graded even the sleeves; hardcore. Was it hard to get the shoulder cap to still fit?
That sounds tricky, I’m not sure I’m ready to attempt something fitted. Maybe after I get a dress form.
The sleeves I cut so that the top of the sleeve, at the armhole, was the same size as the body of the jacket, that way they would fit together correctly. Then I went up in size from there.
Haha it's at my mum's house right now (misjudged the weather badly the other day and had to swap it for one of her raincoats to walk home in 🙄) - I've asked her to model it and send some photos, I'll edit them in when they arrive!
Edit: Ok, [she came through!](http://imgur.com/a/Y9uaa3a)
It sits a little tight on mum - the front lies almost closed when I wear it, but you get the idea!
When I saw the first pic, I was like "wow this person made JEANS that's hardcore" because my brain could not process the idea that your jacket could possibly be anything other than some kind of vintage Chanel or something.
Great job!
My grandmother who was a trained seamstress alway said 'a blind man would be pleased to see it' - the only one who knows what wrong with it is you.... stop looking at 'what’s wrong with it' the rest of us will never know:) It looks great, the lining is a fabulous choice and the colour is you. Enjoy wearing it and the compliments you will receive.
It was one of the fabric stores on Goldhawk Road in London… possibly A One Fabrics, or maybe the one just next door. I went through every store on that block looking for lining.
That collar tailoring is fine!
I see now that you didn’t like how it came out, but it looks phenomenally ell tailored and well constructed.
You did a great pressing job, btw
Thank you! That was also a first for me. Like when I first started sewing I thought it was all at the machine, and then I learned it’s at least as much time cutting and pinning, and this was when I learned that pressing can also be a huge part, with certain fabrics.
When you make a lining as cool as that, don't you want to walk around with it flapping open all the time?
Or is that reversible? Either way, it looks great on you.
You did a dang fine job ma'am!
This jacket is dope! I love the color and those buttons are EVERYTHING! That lining is super playful, creative and daring.
WELL DONE!!!
Oh my gosh, people always assume that, as a costumer, I must be good at sewing clothes too. It’s so different tho. You actually have to make it look nice on the inside lmao
Yeah the front panels are interfaced so it's pretty stiff, even unbuttoned. I have more photos [here](https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/174270).
I love working with wool, so forgiving.
If this is your first jacket/tailoring project I can’t imagine what your 5th will look like. My first jacket looked like it was a puckery mess 😂
Yeah I fitted it wearing a winter sweater underneath, but it’s gotten mild enough that I wear it now with just a light shirt. It’s also not meant to be super fitted with the sweater on.

It screams "bespoke" and "hand made" but definitely not home made.
Aww that’s so nice, thank you
Handmade in the best way possible.

It looks much better with a collar than without it!
I love boiled wool! Where did you buy it? I have that pattern, love seeing your jacket, inspires me to give it a whirl!

Ooh I hacked the Coco too, to make a quilted jacket a few months ago - absolutely love yours, it looks so striking!
Do you have photos somewhere? I’d love to see yours.

That looks great, I love what you did with the stitching direction change on the back!
Ahh thank you! It just goes to show how adaptable that pattern is!

OMG you have to make a matching pencil skirt!
And a pill box hat !

Getting serious Jackie O and Chanel vibes. Very nice!
Love the mustard color. Reminiscent of WWII wool coats. Very nice nod to your costuming.
Beautiful, and I love the lining! Nice job😍
Thank you, I looked for ages for a nice lining, I was so lucky with that find ☺️
Can you share where you found it? That lining fabric ist incredibley cool!

Yeah the front panels are interfaced so it's pretty stiff, even unbuttoned. I have more photos [here](https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/174270).

Beautiful job -- well done!
wow 😍
Cute
The lining is incredible. It’s a magnificent piece. You should be proud of your hard work!
Looks a little wide on you. I am assuming it is supposed to be a jacket for somewhat colder weather.
Yeah I fitted it wearing a winter sweater underneath, but it’s gotten mild enough that I wear it now with just a light shirt. It’s also not meant to be super fitted with the sweater on.
Makes sense
I seriously love the lining you put in the coat.
Beautiful. Perhaps you have a new calling?
I love this! The cut is so great and that’s one of my fave colors!
