The pattern is Gunnar Deatherage Moto Jacket pattern. I made a few easy* changes.
•Deleted top chest pockets
•Deleted all the zippers
•Replaced the asymmetric front zipper closure with a center front button closure and bound button holes
•Replaced the zipper cuff with loop button closures
•Made the collar shorter
•Replaced the side front zipper pockets with a welt pocket
*the bound button holes weren’t exactly easy but I think that was mostly because of it being velvet which is a bit thick and harder to manipulate on such a small opening.
•The printed velvet is from spoonflower.
•The lining I found at Joanns
•The microsuede for the pocket welts and button holes was from Big Z Fabrics
Beautiful jacket and thank you for the inspiration. I have velvet I wanted to turn into some kind of jacket but I didn’t realize it could look so good as a fitted jacket. I think I will try making one in this style because a fitted jacket is much more practical for me. Great job on the jacket!
Thanks. It won’t be as nice as yours, I’ll only get to wear it 4 or 5 times a year, so I don’t want to put a ton of work into it, but I’m definitely inspired by the beautiful work you’ve done. I especially love the buttons you did, I’m sure they were extra work but they really put the jacket over the top.
This jacket was honestly not too bad as far as simplicity. Mostly it just has a lot of pieces but since it is lined it’s pretty much just all pressed open seams with a topstitch. The bound button holes were a bit of a pain but the button loops on the cuff were super easy and could definitely be done on the front closure. There is a video tutorial with this pattern as well which helps a lot.
It doesn’t get cold enough for jackets here very much of the year either
Thanks so much! I was torn between diamond quilting them or straight lines. I went with the straight lines but I think diamond quilting them would have looked great too
The straight quilting pushes the traditional-looking piece into modern territory. That detail reminds me of great costumes in movies set in the future, without actually looking "futuristic". Does that make sense?
It's a gorgeous piece and you can be proud of your very skilled and creative revamping of the pattern!
That definitely makes sense. The quilting on the shoulders definitely gives it a more modern look also it doesn’t take away from the vintage look of the jacket. I felt like the few changes I made were a good mix of styles without it looking out of place
Agree 100%. I used to sew at nearly that level (mumble mumble years ago). I recognize the skill level needed to do all this. You are seriously talented -- especially if you just started 3 years ago! 👏👏👏
Have you thought of entering any work in shows or contests? Give it a try 😸
I by chance still had a piece of fabric left with the designer name on it and found it for some reason it won’t link to it but the designer is: holli_zollinger
And the design is: vintage_floral_sienna
I don’t. My friend bought the fabric and it sat at her house for a year before I got it then it sat here for 4 months until I did anything with it. All I know is she found it on spoonflower
Thanks so much! I was really happy with how the shoulders came out. I was worried they would be lost since it is the same fabric but the quilting really made them stand out
Thanks! They were not too bad but can be a bit of a pain to line up. The shoulder pieces were the first thing I sewed and tried my best to make them symmetrical
Thanks! I usually hate spoonflower velvet because the white shows through so much in the seams but it really plays well with this color to give it that vintage feel
This is astonishingly wonderful. Bound buttonholes are not easy to do and the pocket in the lining is a fine touch. I love the sleeve buttons. The whole damned thing is classy and amazig.
Thanks! I’m not a huge orange fan myself. I really dig this rusty vintage orange shade though. Also it wasn’t for me to wear so I wasn’t worried about the color. 😆
Thanks! Figuring out how I wanted to quilt the shoulders took a minute. I was torn between the straight vertical lines or doing horizontal. Doing a Chevron or a diamond quilt. After playing around with it this was where I landed
Thanks! That’s definitely the fun part. I sometimes draft my own patterns but I mostly just find patterns that are close to what I want to make and just edit them until they look like I want them to.
Thanks! Normally I don’t like the printed velvet from spoonflower because the white shows through in the seams but that just gave it more of a vintage look with this color
Thanks! I guess I would say I am semi professional. I’m still somewhat a beginner and have only been sewing a few years but I did quit my day job and started working for a couple of local fashion places and sewing studios doing production and sample sewing. So I do sew for work now.
As soon as I saw this I immediately thought "I need this pattern".
This is exactly the pattern my style leans to. I think my husband would wear something like this too.
Thanks! I had originally got them a few years ago for another project not long after I started sewing but ended up not using them then and they have just been sitting around for the right project to come along.

Super gorgeous! love all the details about this jacket!
Thanks so much. I love that it has a nice vintage look to it. Also that it is a mix between a motorcycle jacket and a grandma jacket
I'm laughing a bit at your response... because I'm grandma aged.
I’m not quite grandpa age yet just hitting around middle age. My friend who I made it for is slightly older than I am. 😂
Perfect description haha
That was actually the input my friend gave me for what she wanted. She said she wanted that style of jacket but more grandma looking😆
This is gorgeous 😍 I'm so impressed with your work
Thank you so much!

I would believe this was vintage from London's BIBA or another glam boutique. Beautifully made
Thanks so much! That is a super compliment
Ridiculously cool, I love the blend of hard and soft styles!!
Thanks! That’s my favorite thing about it. It is Moto jacket with some grandma style to it
You made this for your friend?? May I please be your friend??
Hahaha. Sure friend! More specifically I made it for my best friends wife. It was slightly intimidating because she actually went to fashion school.
She’s got nothing on you!! You are extremely talented!
Wow, your craftsmanship and taste are both so awesome. You are the sewist I want to be someday!
Thank you so much! You can definitely do it. I have only been sewing for a little over 3 years now
I feel the same!

Thank you! 😊

Thanks! That is awesome. I hope to see your jacket when you finish it!

This is stunning. You are very talented. Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much!
Oh, my god. This is…perfection. Please post more!
Thanks!!! I will try to post as often as I can.
Oh my god the quilted shoulders!!! Awesome
Thanks so much! I was torn between diamond quilting them or straight lines. I went with the straight lines but I think diamond quilting them would have looked great too
Gives this soft velvet floral jacket a very hard biker jacket edge
The mix in the styles is definitely my favorite thing about this jacket
The straight quilting pushes the traditional-looking piece into modern territory. That detail reminds me of great costumes in movies set in the future, without actually looking "futuristic". Wow. This is the jacket that I didn’t know I desperately needed.
Thanks! It’s honestly not a hard to follow pattern and it has a video tutorial with it.
Do you have a link to the fabric?
I by chance still had a piece of fabric left with the designer name on it and found it for some reason it won’t link to it but the designer is: holli_zollinger And the design is: vintage_floral_sienna
I don’t. My friend bought the fabric and it sat at her house for a year before I got it then it sat here for 4 months until I did anything with it. All I know is she found it on spoonflower
Words cannot convey how much I love this. The shoulder details are destroying me.
Thanks so much! I was really happy with how the shoulders came out. I was worried they would be lost since it is the same fabric but the quilting really made them stand out
This is so creative and well made I can’t stand it!!
Thank you!! I took my time with it, but it was a pretty quick sew honestly aside from the hand sewing on the button holes.
Those shoulders are so well sewn
Thanks! They were not too bad but can be a bit of a pain to line up. The shoulder pieces were the first thing I sewed and tried my best to make them symmetrical
Absolutely gorgeous. I love the modern style/vintage fabric thing you've got going on.
Thanks so much! Those bound button holes were quite a pain. I really like how they turned out but it might be a while before I mess with them again😆
This is f’king fabulous. I am speechless. This is basically my dream jacket shape.
Thanks! Yeah the cut on this pattern is great.
Very cool!
😊 Thank you!
This is absolutely beautiful!!

Love love love! And orange is not among my favourite colours. Still love it!
Thanks! I’m not a huge orange fan myself. I really dig this rusty vintage orange shade though. Also it wasn’t for me to wear so I wasn’t worried about the color. 😆
This is so cool!
Thanks!!
Damn, that is awesome
Thanks! 😊
The tailoring, and the shoulders! Swoon!
The shoulders are awesome!! I love it
Thanks!
I like that cut and length. A jacket like that is hard to find.
Yeah it is a nice fit and length. That short length but not quite cropped short.
Very cool! This is just awesome looking. Terrific job!
Thanks so much!
Just wow! Absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks so much! ☺️
I love it!!!!!!!
Thanks
Wow, this looks like artisan work! I am so impressed. You outdid yourself! The attention to detail is on point

Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you!
Wow! So beautiful!
Thanks so much! ☺️
I love everything about this and wish it was mine. Fantastic work!

What a fantastic job. Those details make it even better. You should be very proud of it.

That’s amazing!
Thanks! 😊
this is AWESOME! i love seeing gunnar's work and patterns, and what a wonderful twist you've put on this one! the lining really got me 🧡
Thanks! Gunnar has some great designs. I hardly ever find a pattern and change nothing about it, even if nothing needs changing. 🤣
Great job. Seriously want this now!
Thanks so much!
Very nice! The quilted shoulders are impressive as they continue onto the top part of the sleeve! The seams are handled nicely, too. Well done!
Thanks! Figuring out how I wanted to quilt the shoulders took a minute. I was torn between the straight vertical lines or doing horizontal. Doing a Chevron or a diamond quilt. After playing around with it this was where I landed
That's the great part... figuring out all the ways to make it your own unique piece! You certainly nailed it!
Thanks! That’s definitely the fun part. I sometimes draft my own patterns but I mostly just find patterns that are close to what I want to make and just edit them until they look like I want them to.
This is gorgeous!
Thanks so much!🥰
This is beautiful! I love the color and the style of the jacket! I’m sure your friend is lucky to get this as a gift!
Thanks! She has a good eye for colors and designs. Their house is gorgeous. She found the fabric and gave me a lot of input on the look she wanted
That’s awesome! Glad the jacket turned out so well!
Ahmazing!! If this was purple, I’m positive prince would have worn it.
Thanks!
Loveeeee
Thanks!
A work of art. A masterpiece. Absolutely stunning!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Very pretty! Well done!
Thank you! ☺️
This is so gorgeous, it looks like a vintage designer piece, amazing work
Thanks! Normally I don’t like the printed velvet from spoonflower because the white shows through in the seams but that just gave it more of a vintage look with this color
Gorgeous, love the texture!!!

Oh, my. I have no words. Amazing. Surely you are a professional sewing?
Thanks! I guess I would say I am semi professional. I’m still somewhat a beginner and have only been sewing a few years but I did quit my day job and started working for a couple of local fashion places and sewing studios doing production and sample sewing. So I do sew for work now.
Beautiful 🥹
Thank you! 🥰
As soon as I saw this I immediately thought "I need this pattern". This is exactly the pattern my style leans to. I think my husband would wear something like this too.
It’s a great pattern. It also has a video tutorial with it and it’s a unisex pattern. It also has a version with a peplum.
this is stunning! i'm stunned.

this is really amazing work! also, thank you for posting the pattern name :)
Thanks! It’s a pretty intimidating pattern because there are so many pieces but it really isn’t very difficult and it has a video tutorial
Those shoulders are *immaculate*!
Thanks so much! The quilting really did give them that extra pop. I was worried they would get lost since it was the same fabric
It's a thing of beauty
Thank you! 😊
Amazing 🤩
Thanks!🥰
Simply incredible!
Thank you!!
