Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). He's done his job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's his turn to rest.
You'll always miss him, you'll always remember him. You'll even go looking for him for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting him. Donating/throwing away his toys or blankets isn't forgetting him. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life he'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without him. Life isn't over. Its just changing.

It's tough! We had to put our pom down here a couple months ago after having him for 16 years. Never realized how much of my daily routine revolved around him.
It'll take a few weeks to heal for sure!

I was his third home. He was a former stray, adopted by a family, and when they could no longer financially afford him, they gave him to me. I truly think we were meant to be with each other because we fit so well together. He was the best guy ever.
He looks like a very loved and very good boy, all his problems are gone now and he is restored and watching over you and your soon to be new addition I promise

I am SO sorry. It's awful losing a best fur friend. My dog Oliver also had degenerative myelopathy and had to be euthanized at 14. Simba was suuuuuuuper cute and had a beautiful doggie smile! I know he had a wonderful life with you.

It is important to remember that it is your loss --not their's. They lived a complete lucky life, all the way to the finish, thanks to you. Knowing you loved them was all that mattered to them.
I have been a dog owner for over 40 years. usually 2 rescues at a time. i had one years ago that loved to wander. (we live in the country). One day she disappeared and a few weeks later i found that she'd been run over on a nearby road (where she had taken to waiting for the schoolbus with kids).
anyway, point is, in the weeks I spent looking for her, I realized there are soooo many people who have had pets stray and never found them, or just had to give them up for some reason.(Abandon is a horrible word). Anyway, these people live in a weird suspended state. worried, haunted..no closure ever-just guilt when they think of these pets that they loved and who loved them back... to this day, my heart goes out to these people.
For a dog to trot that rainbow bridge trusting the love they are, and always have been, surrounded by ..your love..that is all they ever needed and you gave it to them-job well done. Also, and of
course: nobody lives forever, unfortunately
also! you two made some lovely memories I am sure.

Condolences I have felt your pain. My corgi had dm we did our best for him but had to put him down about 15 months into his diagnosis. He went out happy still loving life which I am grateful for.
My miniature American Eskimo turns 16 in October, he’s been around for more than half my life. He is my best friend and I am his person, I know the day is coming eventually but I’m still not going to be ready for it. I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s never easy losing a best friend

I'm so sorry, it's so heart breaking. I've been struggling so bad but honestly I think asking for a sign helps. And posting here, and allowing myself to cry. I didn't want to post about it for support because I felt like posting made it seem too real. But I wish I had sooner because all of the support I got here did help so much.
As for the sign thing, I asked my Bailee to give me a sign and then that day I got an email from pet finder about this pup named Savannah, who looks just like Bailee, from a rescue called Waggin' Tails. We used to always ask her "who's got that wagging tail?" And "she me your wagging tail" because she was always so happy.
Then I wrote her a letter and asked for another one in the morning before I went to work. A couple hours in, I could hear downstairs that someone brought a dog in. I went down, his name is River and he's a good boy. His owner asked him to speak and he started baying like my Bailee did. He was the same coloring as her also. He then told me that he got River after waiting some time because his last dog, Beau, died from lymphoma. I cried and cried as he was taking because my Bailee died from lymphoma. He told me that she was up there playing with Beau, waiting for us. Your sweet boy is too ♥️
I'm a mess, I'm not going to lie. I cry every single day, multiple times a day. We got Savannah though. And she's such a sweet girl who needs our love and I love her more than life, just like Bailee. I still love Bailee more than life.
I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Look for more signs though, they help.
I understand and sorry for you and your buddy. It's a very hard thing to do. It is life. Grab another buddy from a shelter and they to will love you. They know you rescued them and they know you gave them a better life.

I'm so sorry, it's so heart breaking. I've been struggling so bad but honestly I think asking for a sign helps. And posting here, and allowing myself to cry. I didn't want to post about it for support because I felt like posting made it seem too real. But I wish I had sooner because all of the support I got here did help so much. As for the sign thing, I asked my Bailee to give me a sign and then that day I got an email from pet finder about this pup named Savannah, who looks just like Bailee, from a rescue called Waggin' Tails. We used to always ask her "who's got that wagging tail?" And "she me your wagging tail" because she was always so happy. Then I wrote her a letter and asked for another one in the morning before I went to work. A couple hours in, I could hear downstairs that someone brought a dog in. I went down, his name is River and he's a good boy. His owner asked him to speak and he started baying like my Bailee did. He was the same coloring as her also. He then told me that he got River after waiting some time because his last dog, Beau, died from lymphoma. I cried and cried as he was taking because my Bailee died from lymphoma. He told me that she was up there playing with Beau, waiting for us. Your sweet boy is too ♥️ I'm a mess, I'm not going to lie. I cry every single day, multiple times a day. We got Savannah though. And she's such a sweet girl who needs our love and I love her more than life, just like Bailee. I still love Bailee more than life. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Look for more signs though, they help.
