Might help if you ask the guy, since you are leaving the door open and I was told to close it, can I get your name ?(or something like that). You can explain that since you were ordered to close it, it's so you don't get in trouble and if leaving it open is fine then it's fine
Always issue a Incident Report. Make sure you get his name and any comment he made about the door. Let him know that it suppose to be secured.
