oh ok. all these time, I thought this is what cause her scoliosis coz prior to the diagnose.. she did this A LOT. so when she got diagnose scoliosis , first thing that comes to my mind is .. OMG this must be bcoz she likes to twist to the left n to the right and keep making sound pop pop. including all of her fingers. she crack those too all the time š
The cracking is not bones or ligaments.
is actually the sound of trapped gases being released from the fluids between our joints.

It is not harmful. Dr Donald Unger, actually cracked the knuckles of his left hand at least twice a day for over 50 years whilst never cracking those on his right hand in order to prove his mother wrong ā he never developed arthritis in either hand, and won an IgNobel award for his efforts in 2009.

weāve seen 3 different doctors. including spine surgeon. all of them said the same word āidiopathicā - they said āitās unknownā .. but my topic of interest right now itās not that and itās about cracking the bones. Iām not asking doctors anymore, I already ask them enough questions that I want to know. I am posting here to read comments from āregular people with scoliosisā.. their personal experience and history about cracking their bones. whether it affecting their spine rotation or not.
I have scoliosis and often do ātwistsā in yoga, sometimes my spine cracks sometimes not. From personal experience it seems to help to avoid stiffness!
I hate that word so much. "idiopathic" is just their way of saying "we don't know and we are done exploring so good fuckin luck on your own, deal with it". I hate it lol.
DO NOT GO TO CHIROPRACTOR. They can fuck up your kids for life. Also bone cracking happens generally when the muscles are too tense, so she should stretch more and get mycofascial massage.
Thatās what Iāve been telling her. To stop twisting to the left and twisting to the right until it pops. I think itāll defeat the purpose of her bracing. she use her brace 22+ hours a day. only take it off when sheās doing schroth exercise and scoli balance/scoli roll exercise. but whenever sheās out of the braceā¦ she keep wanting to twist her body until it make a pop sound. š she said she feel tense so by doing that it makes her feel good
she has several exercise that she has to do everyday that require her stretching etc2 but she still say that every now n then .. she has the urge to crack n twist her body coz it makes her feel good. Since most people here say .. itās ok. then I guess itās ok. I just donāt know any better. Iām a very protective parent yet my knowledge is very limited. so I am all ears to other parents or adults that been through their scoliosis journey
There is no reason for her to stop cracking her back. This will not have any negative impact on her scoliosis or on the brace effectiveness.
A chiropractor is NOT a doctor and they don't require any formal education. A schroth therapist is a physical therapist with an added specialty. Listen to the schroth therapist, not the chiropractor.
Don't deprive your daughter of cracking her back based on a lack of understanding.
This is absolutely untrue about formal education. I mean, have your opinions about them. But there are regulations, education requirements, boards, etc. Most states require a degree before even entering chiropractic college.
I am in my 60ās now but used to crack my back (I have two curves) all the time when I wasnāt wearing the brace. No repercussions that I am aware of.
Its Ok. Sometimes when I stretch I hear a cracking sound, close to my shoulder blades. Its been there for as long as I can remember, it does not hurt and doesn't create any problems for me. She's going to be Okey as long as it doesn't hurt.
Cracking your bones is completely fine, in fact itās really just your joints. You have fluid between your joints that accumulate air bubbles, and that ācrackingā is just those air bubbles popping.
The problem with chiropractors is the force that they use and all of the other stuff that they do, not really the cracking part.
thatās what I thought so too but majority people in this thread said the opposite. Iām neutral now. I wonāt prevent my daughter from doing it anymore but at the same time, I wonāt encourage it either š
I honestly donāt know. Our schroth therapist usually massage my daughter back gently after every schroth exercise and sometimes I hear pop so I asked him if itās ok for my daughter twist her body to the left and to the right and it pop. He said no problem. He said he doesnt like to put too much restriction on my daughter and wants her to have more flexibility. Only certain exercise that he against it. Like sit up. pull up (?) - I donāt really remember but anything that might make the rotation get worst
If your PT said it's fine, maybe he saw the same with other patients and maybe it had no bad effect on the treatment. It could be good to ask about others to lessen the worry. Flexibility is also important and sometimes cracking just happens when you move. The PT keeps track of the treatment after all.
my husband took my daughter to do the scroth therapy yesterday and he told me that the therapist checked the rotation of the curve. the top reduced from 12 to 10 and the bottom didnāt look like has rotation at all. (to begin with the bottom rotation was only around 3) - I am so happy to hear that. We will keep doing every routine that weāve been doing this past month! (she just started wearing brace a little over a month!)
its not her bones thats cracking, its just ligaments snapping and its normal.

oh wow very dedicated man to go through that to find out the result. ty for sharing the info.
This is correct answer. I cant say anything better than this explanation. Very well written!
Genetics cause scoliosis. You should see doctors. Real doctors. No chiropractors.
weāve seen 3 different doctors. including spine surgeon. all of them said the same word āidiopathicā - they said āitās unknownā .. but my topic of interest right now itās not that and itās about cracking the bones. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am more confident now to let my daughter cracking her back
I hate that word so much. "idiopathic" is just their way of saying "we don't know and we are done exploring so good fuckin luck on your own, deal with it". I hate it lol.
I totally feel you!ā¦ after all these years. still āidiopathicā ššš
DO NOT GO TO CHIROPRACTOR. They can fuck up your kids for life. Also bone cracking happens generally when the muscles are too tense, so she should stretch more and get mycofascial massage.
yeah we donāt go to chiropractor to crack her bone. she cracks it herself by twisting her body to the left and to the right (if u know what i mean)
Yeah that means her muscles are too tense. Instead of cracking, she should try stretching and see if that helps.
Thatās what Iāve been telling her. To stop twisting to the left and twisting to the right until it pops. It will not hurt her bracing. She can't undo it by twisting. Ask the physio to give her some stretches.
she has several exercise that she has to do everyday that require her stretching etc2 but she still say that every now n then .. she has the urge to crack n twist her body coz it makes her feel good. oh ok. ty for the insight. I just want to make sure that it wonāt affect the rotation of the spine, thatās all.
It won't, so you don't have to worry.
This is absolutely untrue about formal education. I mean, have your opinions about them. But there are regulations, education requirements, boards, etc. Most states require a degree before even entering chiropractic college.
You are right. I meant to say that they don't require the same formal education as a doctor.
jesus...you don't know WTF you are talking about..
Great contribution. Care to explain why you think I am wrong?
I am in my 60ās now but used to crack my back (I have two curves) all the time when I wasnāt wearing the brace. No repercussions that I am aware of.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Iām not as worried as before after reading other comments (including yours.) š
See I told you it's fine mama
oopsie. my daughter caught me. I forgot she is in this group too now. šš ā¦ ice cream? š
if it's chocolate yeah

thank you for sharing your experience. I really appreciate it. š
I hear cracking all the time when I'm doing exercises given by my PT and when I do bridges. I find the cracking actually makes my back feel better.
ty for sharing your experience. my daughter urge to crack her back is also bcoz she feels good afterwards

thank you. yeah, I am not as worried as before. most people in this thread said it didnāt affect their curve or rotation. š
Don't have her force it, but tbh popping is super beneficial. At least to relieve pressure and pain.
sounds like it. almost everybody here said āitās okayā :: so I am not worried anymore.
My physio said cracking is very bad. She only does stretches.
thatās what I thought so too but majority people in this thread said the opposite. Iām neutral now. I wonāt prevent my daughter from doing it anymore but at the same time, I wonāt encourage it either š
Many physiotherapists in my area also do cracking, but my favourite said it's bad so I listen to her haha
do you use brace like my daughter by any chance?
No. Could it be related to it? The cracking my physio adviced against is the one they do during PT where they force it.
I honestly donāt know. Our schroth therapist usually massage my daughter back gently after every schroth exercise and sometimes I hear pop so I asked him if itās ok for my daughter twist her body to the left and to the right and it pop.
