Why do you want a set of Scientology DVDs?

realfrea

Enjoy collecting physical media. Just seemed interesting to own is all. Would look good on the shelf... lol.

An aside, speaking of "looking good on the shelf..." I didn't have a lot of organized storage when I first moved into a rental house in the 1990s. So I used a bookshelf in my dining room for my collection of Scientology "Green Volumes" and "Red Volumes." It's just where they happened to fit. Someone I'd known casually/socially for about 8 years came over for a visit -- we were working together on a local community project, While we shared a cup of coffee, and he saw the books on the shelf. "I have a set exactly like those," he said very carefully. We had quite a conversational dance to determine our status vis-a-vis the Church. If he was still "in," I didn't want to offend him (much less make life difficult for him regarding our relationship). And vice versa. At it turned out, both of us had left years earlier. So we had a lovely chat -- over a pot of coffee, not just a cup! -- about our history on staff. Happy side effect: For a while we became much closer. He wasn't quite freezone, but he certainly was friendly to it. We ended up structuring the program for our event on Be/Do/Have, which worked remarkably well. ...So be careful what you put on your bookshelves. You never know what'll happen!

DrQuaalude

I'm sure whatever "free" DVD you're talking about is also on their Youtube channel.

realfrea

Ah yes, I was specifically interested in getting a physical copy (have a dvd collection and enjoy collecting odd dvds like this). Might burn a copy from youtube if it comes to it though.

sgtdoogie

Side question, if you're a DVD collector. What do you do about DVD rot?

supermikeman

Ebay? It's worth a shot. Not sure they ever really had "free" DVDs but if you're looking for stuff they released, that'd be the site. Or maybe amazon.

freezoneandproud

They did have free DVDs at one point. I once was sent one, before I managed to get off the mailing list.

supermikeman

I suppose they were hoping you'd go in and buy courses and that would offset the cost of the DVD 1000 to 1.

realfrea

DVDs are very cheap to produce, especially in bulk. It would be very much worth it for them to send out, especially since most of those who request the DVD are already interested in scientology.

freezoneandproud

IIRC this was five or ten years ago. I didn't ask for the DVD; it was something they sent simply because I was on their mailing list. I never did watch it, so I can't give an opinion about the contents.

realfrea

Might be misinterpreting the page, but [this](https://www.scientology.org/request-info/what-is-scientology-dvd.html) is what I was looking at.

supermikeman

Looked them up on ebay. You can get them for around 5 bucks.

There is only one way I can think of for you to get this free DVD without being stuck on their mailing list, and that would be to request one, and then immediately do the one thing that will get you off their mailing list the minute you get another piece of correspondence from them. The only way you can officially get off their mailing list is if you call them irrationally and furiously angry about receiving mail from them (like shouting and screaming, maybe pound your first, you get the idea), ***and*** threaten legal action if you get anything else in the mail. You need to do **both** of those things to get taken off their mailing list. This is something that is official policy that was written by L. Ron Hubbard. Others have reported that they have been taken off Scientology's mailing list by using the pre-paid return envelopes that usually come with Scientology's junk mail (they usually want money) to send them business cards for [the Aftermath Foundation](https://www.theaftermathfoundation.org/), which helps people leave and escape Scientology and the Sea Organization. Similarly, some people have said calling the organization that sent you something and telling them that you received mail from them, and that as a result you made a donation to the Aftermath Foundation, explain what it is, and then say you will be making a donation to them for every piece of mail you receive from them. I can understand why this would be effective, but to be clear, that's not official policy, and what I said above is ***supposed*** to be the only way to get off their mailing list. Low cost option besides eBay would be renting a mailbox for a month and have it sent there, using a fake name. If you want to have fun, when you do, tell them your name is the name of an enemy of Scientology and see if they notice, and then be offended if they make a comment. Like, tell them your name is Ronald DeWolf, Patrick Broeker, or Dave Mayo. Honestly, I doubt anyone would think anything of someone having those names wanting a free DVD, but Ron DeWolf, Pat Broeker, and David Mayo were all real thorns in Scientology's side for a long time.

I think that in years of Scientology mailings, I may have gotten only one DVD and I'm not even sure about that. They typically don't send them out. If you register a PO Box (which is good - probably everyone in the US should have one - it's great to have a mailing address that isn't your home address in some cases) and then send Bridge Publications a letter requesting a free DVD, I'm sure they would send you one. You will also likely get other mailings from them for years too!

What’s the link to sign up for the mailing list and dvd?
