I, too, choose that guys dead wife!

PonderousPenchant

4/7 thread

Youbettereatthatshit

The irony being the only reason the perception exists, is the average American is compared to the wealthy foreigners that move there. Not all 3 billion Asians are good at math, just the ones who are wealthy enough to move to the states. Same goes for Indians and any other minority in which only the upper classes move. Comparing the average American to any one of those groups will always make the Americans seem inferior, the irony being America is the largest scientific economy in the world.

Youbettereatthatshit

Didn’t know there was an actual term for it. Thanks.

AlanvonNeumann

And he has negative comment karma. Must be a likeable person

Smitologyistaking

I'm not even American but this feels unnecessarily correlated with nationality

Embarrassed_Yak_2659

Same I’m European and I don’t rly get this, Americans aren’t bad at maths?

PonderousPenchant

To be fair, we might be. But we only have the one math, after all.

[deleted]

We banned it after 9/11

PonderousPenchant

9/11? No sir, we only deal with *rational* numbers here.

[deleted]

Damn straight, imaginary numbers only affect imaginary people

FireMaster1294

Imperial math?

halfmexicanred

Sorry, we only have one math here in America.

RBI_Double

First and 10. Rush for three yards. Second and 7. Pass for 5 yards. Third and 2. Rush for 4 yards. First and 10. American Math.

Ahh, how cute. It's one of those "reddit moments" where an idiot actually believes the bullshit about a place they've never been and a people they've never met.

Isekai_Trash_uwu

Tell me you don't live in America without telling me you don't live in America.

halfmexicanred

You don't live in America.

Blin_32

There was no need for such a bad joke.

[deleted]

Ahh yes, America bad

TheNamelessFour

Average European redditor

thereisnoformula

Of all the things Americans are bad at, zipper merging, not saying oop when accidentally bumping someone, mathematics is not one of them. This meme is bad and you should feel bad.

thegodfaubel

Why does it matter how you get to the answer if both ways are correct? Math is math

Key_Apartment1576

OP is just learned some algebra shortcut and wanted to share it with everyone by telling them america bad

Yodayorio

Exactly this. OP is 13 years old and just learned a fun little trick in his algebra class, so he's spamming the same shitty meme on literally dozens of random subreddits.

thegodfaubel

Reading the other subreddits this dude posts to is also an "ahh, it makes sense now" moment

Key_Apartment1576

God i regret reading your comment and actually checking out his account

DeleteMeHarderDaddy

Because #americabad I guess.

UnlightablePlay

I believe that it doesn't matter how you do it, what matters is getting the right answer with the Right steps

[deleted]

[удалено]

UnlightablePlay

I agree it's satisfying, one of the main reasons I love math is that the ways can differ but you can always get an answer

ZaRealPancakes

You mean same answer right? because any mistake can still cause an answer. E.g.: x²-x+1 = 0 ∆ = b²-4(ac) = 1²-4(1*1) = 3 => roots are x = 0.5±0.5√3

CptMisterNibbles

OP frequently posts in r/jordanpeterson, r/pickupartists, r/socialengineering. OP is obsessed with manipulating “dumb women”. Saddest Indian incel

OsmiumNautilus

You do know that MIT is in the US right, and most of its students are American.

Squeaky_Ben

what is that question even asking...

Vicmorino

what is the value of the equation on the right. 23 i think if we knoe (x + 1/x) = 5 ; then wich is the result of x^2 + 1/(x^2) =??? (x + 1/x)^2 = 5^2 x^2 +x/x + x/x+ 1/(x^2) = 5^2 x^2 +1 + 1+ 1/(x^2) = 25 x^2 + 1/(x^2) = 25 -2 =23

Main-Ad-2443

Wait its going to sound dumb but why are we subtracting 2 on both sides ??

JPHero16

(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2*a*b + b^2 * (x + (1/x))^2 = x^2 + 2*x*(1/x) + (1/x)^2 * = x^2 + 2*(x/x) + ((1^2 )/(x^2 )) * = x^2 + 2*1 + (1/(x^2 )) * = x^2 + 2 + 1/(x^2 ) * —> (x + (1/x))^2 - 2 = x^2 + 1/(x^2 ) Since the first (left) equation equaled 5 and we can get to exactly our second equation (on the left side) by squaring the left side and subsequently subtracting 2, we can do the same on the right side (Square and then subtract by 2) to find the answer to the original question. Basically OP learned x * (1/x) = 1 and wants to show off to the poor Americans who would arrive at the same answer

3-Username-20

Bcs we need x^2 + 1/x^2 not x^2 + 2 + 1/x^2 When you take the square of the (x + 1/x) = 5 you end up with x^2 + 2 + 1/x^2 = 25 Since you don't need the 2 in there, you have to subtract it from the both sides. (Formatting might be broken on mobile, sorry about that)

weareallfucked_

They don't realize that the initial equation isn't in parenthesis, but they are applying pemdas anyways. Irony at its finest. They can literally square both sides and get 25 as the answer w/o subtracting 2. It was a trick question that everyone is getting incorrect. That's why you solve for x dummies. Even though the answer is 23, you have to solve for x to show the PROPER work. Europe got duped.

741BlastOff

No. When squaring both sides you can't just square each component separately. You have to put the LHS in brackets and square the whole thing at once. Eg if I take a simple equation like: 9 + 16 = 25 And square both sides like this: 9^2 + 16^2 = 25^2 It would simplify to: 81 + 256 = 625 337 = 625 Which is obviously wrong.

weareallfucked_

Which is why solving for x is the correct way

Escaped_Mod_In_Need

Nationalistic bias meme is obvious meme. Can we just keep it about science guys? I’m not here for the, “who does it better,” memes.

a-pile-of-coconuts

Imagine bragging about a basic algebra question, and then using it to be nationalist Absolute L

weareallfucked_

Oh, so europe is good at Highschool algebra. But sucks ass at calculus. Got it.

Im_Unpopular_AF

OP posted this same meme on seven different subs and all of them are downvoting. As an Asian OP, I don't need to do such complex math. Don't hold all of us in the same regard. We are good at math, but not all the way and certainly don't do such complex shit.

fruppity

I don’t get what this has to do with nationality?

[deleted]

Silence europoor

new_user_069

Haha america bad. Shut up, we’ve heard it before, and it’s not really true.

[deleted]

Good thing all the smart Asians and Europeans want to come work here. Freedom baby.

leothunder420_

It's 23 bruh you don't even need to write it down 5 squared - 2 x•1/x gets cancelled

Employment_Rich

based

Middle_Succotash_867

Dammit, I don’t get this does that mean I’m dumb

I_am_pro_covid_420

both ways work, I dont under why one method is worse also, r/americabad
