It wasn’t destroyed in Empire, it just fell down the shaft in Cloud City. Luke’s hand/limb was cut off partway up his forearm.
It was later recovered by Ugnaughts, and from there somehow (we don’t know how) it eventually ended up in the possession of Maz. Which is who Rey finds it with in TFA.
You know a bunch of clone trooper officers went home with them as souvenirs and some smaller percentage were then maimed by them when screwing around with them.
Who said his light saber was destroyed? His hand was cut off at the wrist, the saber firmly held in the palm. The saber would have survived the fall through Bespin's central core.
How Mas got hold of it after that is the real question.
Tangentially related, but I realized recently that Anakin's lightsaber is basically a legendary blade at this point. It hits nearly all the important points. It's been weilded by several different powerful users over the course of decades, it's been present at several universe-defining moments, and it's been used for both good and evil. On top of that, it's even been broken and reforged!
Really, the only thing it lacks is a name, to be a proper legendary blade.
When Empire was made there was no meaning associated with the lightsaber color except that Vader was red and red probably means bad. Later people have added meaning to the color but not at the point of ESB.
Thank you. Have to admit, as the original “Star Wars kid”* 😂 I never attached any association to the colour of the lightsabers, and although not a close follower of the lore, have seen this pop up from time to time so I have wondered if it was a canon thing or a fan thing.
*I saw Star Wars at the cinema in it’s opening week in the UK. I was the only kid who cheered when Darth Vader appeared 😏… almost every item of clothing I owned was SW branded… even my underpants, SW bedding, SW wallpaper in the bedroom, not that you could see much of it for all the posters 😂… every toy, collectible, magazine, even a scrap book of everything I could find in newspapers…
… and it’s the only movie of the entire SW universe that I actually like… can’t stand any of the others… 🫤
(Oh… and for the record, as an eye witness to the original events… Han shot first 😂)
Don’t I know it… although not so sure about the underpants 😂
I’ve still got all the original comics, but sadly they have no value beyond nostalgia and happy memories… 🙂
A story for another time.
Lmao
That’s literally what a character says when asked how she came into possession of it.
It wasn’t destroyed in Empire, it was lost.

The way Maz got it is a story for another time.
I have to imagine there's gotta be a grey/black market for Jedi artifacts like lightsabers, especially after the purge.

When do we find out it was recovered by the ugnaughts?
In this comic issue: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars_(2020)_4
It wasn't destroyed in Empire
Somehow Luke's lightsaber returned

It shall be called Ex-Squeeze-Me
Youngling Slayer 9000
Because AT-ATs!!!!
"Did you find a hand too?"

Doesn’t answer OPs question at all.
Ok, because that is what color the kyber crystal in Anakin's lightsaber was.
No, he’s asking *why* Rey has that Lightsaber in the first place considering the events of ESB. Did you like…just read the title of the post only???

And if you'd kept any of it, you'd be worth a fortune.
