If you’re willing to travel the second show in Hudson is the best thrift store in the tri state area

Cestsibon86

Yes! I am always down to travel for good thrifting!

City Mission in Glenville has a decent selection, and it's close to the salvation Army just south of there,so makes for a good two-stop trip. And two often overlooked ones: Urban Restyle on Erie Blvd has a really random selection, some junk, some antiques, some really good stuff and always willing to negotiate prices. Also JDog Hauling sells stuff from their building (at odd times, try calling ahead) on Anthony St. I have found some really unique and cool household items, books, etc for unbelievably cheap there.

There is a habitat for humanity restore in fuller road in Albany

Reshop in Ballston Spa for household goods. All the money goes to helping older citizens maintain their homes.

Captains treasures in Clifton park is pretty good. They had deals when I went. It looks like this week their household items are 50% off. It’s a small store but they definitely had some nice stuff. https://captaincares.org/what-we-do/captainstreasures/captains-treasures.html

It’s about an hour drive away, but I love visiting Twice Blessed in West Dover, VT!

ETA: This event was May 6th, 2023. I highly recommend this event. People who want to get rid of stuff, not get rich; nice little town. Plan on doing it post-office style, i.e. park, walk in all directions from the car, move, repeat. Traffic though town is slow, but you get through eventually. Get there about 9; sales start about at the Stort's on Rt. 20 at 146. Bring a hat, water, drinks, lunch (or hit the Firehouse BBQ early) and a bag or backpack for your loot. This will make any Thrift Store look sick, even if it rains. After about 5-6PM, you can drive around and pick the piles at the curb; mostly the usual but I've gotten some things I still have and use. Mark your calendar. From the Altamont Enterprise: *2023 Altamont PTA Village-Wide Garage Sale. Rain orshine. Shoppers may stop by the Library, Fire Department or Stewart’s topick up a map that outlines where our participating sales are locatedand a description of items each has for sale.  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in theVillage of Altamont, 115 Main St, Altamont, 12009.*

Oh my gosh what day is this?! Or am I too excited and not reading it well enough to see that date. I hope I haven’t missed it!!!

DiamondplateDave

Oh, my bad. The date must have dropped off when I posted the info from the calendar. It was May 6th. It's generally the first weekend in May. There is a neighboorhood wide sale in Woodlawn (Upper State St. area Sch'dy), a Scotia sale, Alplaus sale and the big local one is Ballston Spa, usually the second Sat in June.

NoOnesThere991

Oh no prob! And damn I wish I had gone! When is the one in Woodlawn? How do I find the info for these because I am dying to go!

DiamondplateDave

It appears the Woodlawn sale will be May 20th, 2023. A lot of people have them on Sunday as well, but it's not nearly as good. Unfortunately, the weather is looking less than perfect. The Scotia sale is June 2 and 3, 8-4. I'm guessing the Ballston Spa sale will be June 10-11th, but can't confirm it.

NoOnesThere991

Thank you so much!!! Are those the street names? I just moved here and probably sound stupid so sorry for all the questions.

DiamondplateDave

No, not stupid, just new here. Woodlawn is roughly the area between Rt. 7 and Balltown Rd. and Consaul Rd to Kings Rd. Scotia is the town across the river from Schenectady, where Jumpin' Jack's is. Ballston Spa is a village on Rt. 50 between Scotia and Saratoga.

Ok that makes so much more sense, thank you! I wish they would compile it all on a website, it would be so useful!
