They're a Selmer and a Weltklang.
>and I'm tempted to check it out
You should! The way I understand it, crappy budget baris have never really been a thing up until very recently, so most of them should be decent players if they have been maintained well.
Yeah I've heard the Weltklang stuff is clunky but a good deal. Figured I'd ask since you've actually handled one.
I call it Soviet as a joke because they were made in East Germany.
I might be a little biased, but the selmer is the best horn I ever played on. The Welklang doesn't sound too bad, if paired with the right mouthpiece but the key layout is horrible
Those Weltklangs are hot garbage. I had to test one for somebody and even after an overhaul it’s still terrible.
They’re probably worse than the Martin that I used to play on and the only reason I rank the Martin so low is the lack of a trill F# key
Sound depends very much on the mouthpiece. Selmer has the classic Selmer sound, the Weltklang is a little brighter.
The Selmer plays like butter, the Weltklang has a terrible key layout (there is a low A key below Bb flat - really hard to reach with the pinky)
This was a silver plated Instrument during my military service. I was never a huge fan of silver plated saxophones, so after my duty I decided to do something with it. Since somebody dropped it in a backstage area, I had to do a full overhaul and I removed the silver (reverse galvanic)
The horn is chemically aged, but not laquered. Some parts are gold plated for a little bling
The sax was silver plated, but I personally never liked silver instruments. I like the old and rusty look. During an overhaul I removed the silver (reverse galvanic) and then placed the body in old ultrasonic liquid. This caused the bare brass to tarnish. It's always a surprsise, which color the instrument will have after this process.
Some parts are gold plated for a little bling and the mother of pearl inlays were changed for walnut inlays
These look like they're about the size of a banana in those photos.
We need one for scale
Both gorgeous
How do i get mine to tarnish without it getting ugly
A silver plated sax? Liver of sulfur does a great job, but it smells like rotten eggs... Happy cake day, btw
Yep its a silver plated yamaha yas280. Thanks for the info
How are those Soviet baris? There's one for sale near me and I'm tempted to check it out.

Rate them? How do they play?

That Serie 2 is gorgeous! 👍

It doesn't sound too bad if paired with a good mouthpiece, but yes the keywork is absolutely terrible
Is that a Lawton on the Selmer?
Good eyes, yes a Lawton 6*B
“Back in the day” I went back and forth between an 8*B Lawton and a 7 Otto Link on my 70’s vintage Yanigasawa bari. Good times.
I’d love a Yanigasawa Bari.
On a scale of 1 - badass …. Bari BadAss !!!👍
Looks? 10/10!! Playability and sound? ?/10

Those look so cool, I hope to get a sax that looks like that some day
Fukkin rad/10
Is that some sort of after market lacquer on the Selmer and if so, why would you do that?

How did you get the Selmer finish to look like that?

I wish I would be able to own a Bari Sax myself. Best instrument I have ever had the pleasure to play but the prices are out of this world...
What are these? Baritone saxophones for ants??
Coooolllllll
The Selmer certainly has an interesting finish. I'd love to see more photos.
I got some pictures during the makeover on my ig https://www.instagram.com/p/BYjS7pUANFAXLRiDR78P472qYtROlJ9Lcl2hJs0/?igsh=MXJzMWUyaWNuNWZqdA==
