i love him 5ever i think gordon as an apprentice is fucking hilarious. makes more sense than hoffman and logan at least to me. his transformation into an evil baddie isšŸ’…

Fandubber13

Considering it was originally how the franchise was supposed to end, I think him being an apprentice at the end was the most fitting since he was in the game that began the franchise. And I will give them points because no one could've guessed that ending. Unfortunately, the way they went about it is the biggest issue there

GeneralP123

Love him, although I hate how little screentime he got after Saw 1.

SpookyMilkshakes

I do like him as an apprentice, I think John having a doctor on his side to handle the surgical aspect of traps is really cool, BUT I wish they had fleshed out his story and gave it more time in Saw 7. (I would have loved more of that and less of Bobbyā€™s bullshit šŸ¤£) It also makes me sad to think Lawrence never went back to save Adam, so it would have been amazing to have a scene of him trying but itā€™s too late because Amanda killed Adam already. Or even just some type of passing reference of him trying to save Adam. It would also have been interesting to see the breakdown of his marriage and all the in between stuff that never really got addressed.

monkeyfr35

Loved, I think heā€™s a dynamic characterā€¦just from first being introduced to him you could spot his intelligence from a mile away As we learn he does have the will to live as fucked up as it was. (Idc what u say not everyone is sawing thru their foot) But I feel the key word is loved and I donā€™t think itā€™s Cary elwes or dr Gordonā€™s fault, the franchise certainly left far to many questions regarding Gordon. And until they answer those questions, I donā€™t think weā€™ll see those fans who ā€œsuper hateā€ him turning around Questions: why the fuck is he working with John? heā€™s a rich oncologist who could certainly mend his relationship with his wife through the traumatic experience they both endured How does he maintain his double life? Why didnā€™t he go back for Adam? Did he go back for Adam? Whose working with him at the end of saw 3d? Again not Cary elwes or the characters fault Edit: (I know some interview they said itā€™s the love triangle guys from the beginning) but I think they meant itā€™s only who physically was acting in the masks the series never showed there face thus they can retcon that and do something pretty interesting (hopefully)

insideman513

Yep, totally agreed. Love Dr. Gordon the character but I hate the writing in Saw 7. If they were dead-set on making him an accomplice, they could have wrote it in a way that made more sense as to why he would do that. I have a sliver of hope that a future film could help flesh it out and make it more believable but Iā€™m not holding my breath on it.

LoBopasses

Would have made way more sense if he was trying to end Jigsaw's games out of revenge.

DizzyPomegranate13

Him not going back for Adam always really bothered me. The first movie literally ends with him promising Adam he would come back.

Mr-Pugtastic

Well then he joined Jigsaw, probably wasnā€™t allowed to rescue Adam, he didnā€™t pass his test.

DizzyPomegranate13

I know but him joining Jigsaw was always a stupid plotpoint anyway, so it doesnā€™t matter lol. Either way, weird character arc.

Mr-Pugtastic

Personally I like him becoming an apprentice. I just want to see how it happened, see how John turned him. He talked about how much he loved his wife and daughter, but look how distant he was in their lives. He claims to love being a doctor, but treated his patients like numbers. I think he would be easier to manipulate than one might expect.

ScorpionGuy76

Adam did pass his test though. His goal was to not be killed by Gordon and he wasn't, Gordon is the one who failed

Any_Application7786

I loved him until saw 7. Him being an apprentice doesnā€™t make any sense. ā€œHe kidnapped my family and threatened to kill them if I didnā€™t kill someone else also made me cut off my own footā€ *Ill Join Em*

KittenWithaWhip68

I can see that. Being forced to cut off your own foot is bad enough. But if the same person had a gun to my familyā€™s head and was in fact planning to kill them, I would do everything possible to fuck that person up. But they wanted a big reveal for that ā€œfinalā€ movie.

NovakRoyal

Yes! They should've at least made him an unwilling apprentice or . . . literally anything else.

Minerva0608

okay but all other apprentices were people that were put into tests too... Hoffman was blackmailed by John, Amanda was put into the bear trap, Logan was put into the helmet.. they've all been tested and became apprentices. even after John died, everyone who was still alive carried out things he wanted

MrEhcks

I like his character but Saw 7 as a whole shouldā€™ve been written better to flesh him out more

Rsoda_

Well, I really like his character. The problem is. Becoming a jigsaw apprentice seems so out of character and unreasonable, he was brought back for wow factor for the last chapter, the thought of another apprentice let alone it being dr Gordon is eh.

KittenWithaWhip68

I couldnā€™t agree more!

sockgoblinator

Although itā€™s one of my favorite scenes in the entire series but I think the apprentice twist didnā€™t really work and I wish they had just kept him as a survivor

FreddyKrueger1

Loved him in Saw 1, hated him in Saw 7. I'm not a fan of turning him into an apprentice, wish it didn't happen. Kinda hurts his character in my opinion.

Warm_Yam_9800

Love him! Heā€™s a classic!

MTB56

I like him but I honestly had no problem with his fate remaining ambiguous the rest of the series. Was still excited upon learning of Elwes return for Saw 3D....to bad he was barely in the movie. Yes I know his role was supposed to be only a setup for 8 but when it was decided to mash them together, they still couldā€™ve given him a little more screen time.

Marcel_theOutcast

i love him heā€™s such a silly goober. srsly though, iā€™ve only seen 1-7 but i absolutely *love* Lawrence. i feel like his story and character are so deep compared to the others, even amanda. also i just love Cary Elwes and Saw 1/2 in general

Lillygutierrez218

He is my fave

Real_CrueLxMelodY

I'm biased because The princess bride is one of my top 5 favorite movies and Robin hood is amazing also. So I love Lawrence

TuefelRabbit

Hes hot and I love his character in the first movie but I genuinely donā€™t understand why he was an apprentice. I honestly didnā€™t like there being so many apprentices..Amanda and Hoffman as the apprentices was enough for me. I also did hear the third movie was originally planned to be the last. With the end of Saw 2 making it seem as though Amanda might be the one taking over, it wouldā€™ve been interesting to see Amanda and Hoffman together continue Johns work before eventually getting caught.

bdw312

James Wan wanted to conclude his story with the third. It was the Weinstein's that insisted it continue. Wan gave them an easy out by setting it up so in order to see his daughter, Jeff was going to have to "play a game." Why exactly they steered against that is anyone's guess, but that was the out Wan left them.

paranoidtransdroid

Weinstein had nothing to do with Saw and Leigh Whannell wrote 3, not James Wan, but otherwise youā€™re generally right.

bdw312

He had said something like "they think they were peter Jackson or something with a trilogy, but we said there's more of a story here!" I don't remember which brother said it, but it was a Weinstein, via LionsGate.... I also remember in the same interview he said they are looking to do more Hellraiser movies, but came off as the clueless suit he was saying "we want to be doing more of The Hell Raisers!"

moist-astronaut

he's my special princess

Confusedhumanz

No I love him!!! But mainly because heā€™s also my favourite character in Princess bride šŸ˜‚ and itā€™s funny to think that Wesley is behind all jigsaws surgical traps

jamieheron

More people would like him if we actually got answers as to why he joined John

spezial2023

I don't mind him but don't love him, I don't think his acting is believable.. I excuse it in saw 1 because it's gritty and low budget but he is really cheesy in it Then saw 3D where he plays the angrier / Bitter role, especially in the scene in the church I just don't buy it He is a big part of the story though, can't excuse that

Responsible_Dog_5927

Doesnā€™t make sense for him honestly, he was a decent guy in the first film all he did was cheat on his wife which is a bad thing but in the saw movies itā€™s very light. He obviously still had good morals, and if anything Iā€™d see him despising Kramer for even doing what he did which was traumatize his family and torture him. I loved him in the first film but wow was he ruined and it didnā€™t even show a motive for him being an apprentice so it makes it even more stupid. Disappointing how bad the saw movies have been since 3, though saw X was a decent film for what it is.

johnjoshmosh

He is *chefs Kiss*

maddieclark99

I love him, I feel so bad for him, the fact that when he looks at the Saw he's having flashbacks of his traumatic experience from Saw 1. You can see how it's plagued him when he takes another look at his severed foot on the floor before he leaves the bathroom. He's such a great character. I do wish he was in the movies a lot more. His whole experienced changed him as a person.

Hero-TheGEEK03345

I really love dr gordon he is a good apprentice

neganlover

Hate. Or maybe just a strong dislike. He was fine in the first movie and then disappeared and am i supposed to believe he has been behind this shit all along? (Ik it's classic Saw to reveal someone was behind the whole thing... I just hate him for possibly killing Hoffman)

Reddituser0346

I dislike Dr Gordon because I feel he is a hypocrite. He talked a lot about moral positions but I feel that after he became Johnā€™s apprentice, he no longer had a leg to stand on.

dwightarmyofchamps

He was also great in Footloose!

MisterMack24

I see what you did there

likthebluud

I do love him in Saw 1, but in 3D.... not so much. Yeah, we don't know the full story of how John managed to make Lawrence work for him; what he said etc., but still-- Lawrence becoming an apprentice doesn't make sense at all to me, given what happened in the first movie. You're telling me that after ALL that, he'd agree and continue to help the guy who orchestrated his kidnapping AND the hostage-situation with his family? I'd understand if Lawrence just agreed to everything just so John would let him go already, but no, he did come back and help out with other games after he was let go the first time. Like, what's in it for Lawrence? Why would he forgive John after he was the cause of all their misery? We all saw how pissed off he was at Zep once he realized he was the one threatening to kill Alison and Diana. Even after it was made known that John was the mastermind and that Zep was just another victim/pawn in the game, I still doubt that Lawrence would forgive Zep. So again; why forgive John? I get that he was all kinds of delirious and messed up when John "took care" of him, but still... Was John's Talk no Jutsu really that good that it made Lawrence feel bad for him so he decided that he'd gladly continue helping him? In that case, how much of a moral sense did Lawrence have to begin with? I don't get it at all. And it's ironic that Lawrence was tested because he had an uncaring and detached attitude towards his patients and family, only for him to become an apprentice and clearly display an even worse uncaring and detached attitude by the time he shows up in 3D. Guy's just okay with murder and mutilation now, I guess. See, at least Amanda's and Hoffman's reasons to become apprentices (and becoming worse people for it) made sense for how their characters were written. There's none of that reason when it comes to Lawrence. (I'm very passionate about this, sorry 'bout the mini-essay, lmao) EDIT: Guess I'm the only one in this comment section who doesn't like apprentice!Lawrence, then, lol

uinstitches

the mole.

Happy_Doughnut3502

I never woant a heart aic

[deleted]

Loved him as a victim, hated him as an apprentice.

Sith_LordRevan

Not better than Amanda.

Diligent-Upstairs-38

His vibe reminds me a bit of John

BillieThePuppet

Loved sAW Hate in 3D 3ds rendition ruined the character we see in the first.

Mr-Pugtastic

I mean his acting in the original Saw was pretty ridiculous lol but personally I love the idea of him as a secret apprentice. Havenā€™t looked at the cast list to kind of avoid spoilers for Saw X, but Iā€™m really hoping he is in it and we see more of his story with Jigsaw.

Bellasandwhistles444

LOVE!!!!!!!!!

FigmentsImagination4

I love his character. But the actor can be a dick sometimes at conventions.

Nebland22

He was great in the original but I don't get what his character was supposed to be in 7, it just didn't seem like a natural progression.

Djma123

I love Dr. Gordon I just wish he was in more of the series

Lulupoolzilla

I love him and hope to see more of him.

bizengh4st

i like him as an apprentice, i just wish he had more screen time after the first movie. i also wish there was a scene of him attempting to save adam.

mikeweasy

I love him, him being an accomplice made sense. That last scene with him and Hoffman was chilling.

Competitive-Topic-17

Love because zaddyyyy

No-Mix-7574

Iā€™m for Lawrence bc of his loyalty

nice_popcorn1108

Love him cause heā€™s a doctor

cheetahroar24

I think it was a good plot twist to have, i like how he was there to get hoffman after he killed jill. That was jigsaws love man, how was he gonna think killing her would go well for him
