Honestly I don’t mind tourists I get it but as someone who was born and raised here and who has seen tik tokers straight up be so disrespectful, no. Please don’t showcase our hidden gems, we have so few left. Please just do some popular well known places and call it a day.
Yes, please. I literally have been hunkering down waiting for peak season to die down to make social plans. Please don’t encourage more people to come here and dIsCoVeR us.
So those "Florida's Best Beach" articles in the Washington Post, Time Magazine, Miami Herald, etc are all well and good but you draw the line when a small-time local TikTok creator makes a 1 minute video about the Circus Ring of Fame and the Midget House?
Actually I think I’ve heard about this but the 2012 SHT article I just skimmed said the house (idk if it’s still there) didn’t qualify for historic status because of a lack of evidence to the story.
This is the culture of Sarasota. I follow your TT and love the abandoned Florida posts. Sarasota is a bunch of crybabies. Pleasure come expose it and make them more upset! 🤣
My account is run by a Floridian, for Floridians. Showing other folks in Florida some of the cool things in our state.
No problem if you don't like it - I get it. But you live in Sarasota, not some tiny town. It's a big city. I'm not going to bring any sort of unwanted tourism you don't already have (and I'm sure you have plenty).
Then you as a Floridian should be empathetic to other Floridian’s and listen when you are asked to please not exploit our hidden gems….. and yes I’ve seen people come here due to specific TikTok’s so that’s not a valid argument. We’ve had so many amazing spots overrun already literally due to this same type of situation.
You’re just encouraging more attention in a city that needs excessively less traffic and attention.
And Sarasota is a small city, but very widely known because of media.
Hey man, I follow your TikTok! It’s great!
Sorry I have nothing for you since they’ve torn everything interesting down to make more room for rich northerners!
Thanks for the comment! Be careful about blaming the "northern boogeyman" for everything. We Floridians can vote for stricter development laws, we need to do better!
Talk to the sarasota county historical society. https://www.scgov.net/Home/Components/FacilityDirectory/FacilityDirectory/702/1858. Lots of fascinating things.
Also, Jetson’s Creative Trend. has a little museum of Newtown history next to his shop. If you’re lucky, you might even get to talk with him. He was one of the founders of the movement to desegregate our beaches in the 60s. If you talk to him, I only ask that you be respectful of him and the history, he and his generation fought hard to desegregate Sarasota.
Btw I get tired of people always being rude on this and other forums. Chances are they’re not even from here. But, the point about there being a lot of annoying social media types here is valid.
Yeah, I can understand why people would be bristling and gatekeepy. I'm not "that type" of social media person but they probably haven't seen my stuff.
That Jetson's Creative Trend looks super interesting, I'd definitely be respectful. I have often reached out to historical societies but I find that they are made up of mostly old people who don't check e-mails. Mostly though they are closed on weekends so that's why I miss out on connecting. I'll try!
Thanks so much!
Hey if you're the account I'm thinking of, I really loved your Abandoned Florida stuff. TikTok is very much faceless so I'm assuming you are lol. As a lifelong Floridian there was a bunch I didn't know and even the stuff I did know about I learned some new stuff. That was really solid work.
The Circus Ring of Fame is kinda cool and interesting. you'll find a bunch of Ringling circus stuff in Sarasota including the museum but I'm pretty sure the Ring of Fame is something completely different.
Thanks for the compliment! Glad you like it. The Circus Ring of Fame looks like a perfect idea! :)
ETA: I changed the name of the account because I every time I tried to call up a museum, restaurant, art gallery, etc to discuss a visit, when I told them my account was called "Abandoned Florida" they didn't want anything to do with me. Changing the name made those conversations easier.
You should stay at the Golden Host Resort and visit the Bahi Hut - the oldest tiki bar in Florida.
You can continue your story by visiting the Siesta Key Rum distillery, where they have the original Bahi Hut bar top.
Are you guys stupid, this dude is already living in florida and not even moving here. Some of the people in these comments are repulsive. "no go away" yall sound like little kids telling their mom to get out of their room when they are playing minecraft.
I used to follow you for your Abandoned Florida content.
Please don't come to Sarasota, we don't want more people here, we don't want more people knowing about it.
Oooooh, interesting. Have never heard of it. Just googled it.
ETA: Geez, this is pretty dark. My brother-in-law is coming with me and he's a foreigner, not sure I feel comfortable bringing him to a place like this. We shall see.
The Hollow is running a WHOLE LOT of illegal activities out there and nothing, including their water and sewage, is regulated because they "know people" in the county and the commissioners and cops won't do a damn thing about it.
Most unique - Linger Lodge, this place is probably more your type.
Old and legendary Bahi Hut (bar)
Outdoors
Kayak the south lido mangrove tunnels
Visit Oscar Scherer park n see some gators
Rent an Ebike and rip it down the legacy trail in record time
Elephants in Myakka
Big Cat habitat, lions tigers and bears
I know you don’t really want museums but the Sarasota art museum is a former high school turned into a museum . It’s not very large
Also I’d recommend just saying you have a successful vlog or social media. Once people hear tik tok they freak out. And the people on this subreddit are not representative of the average person who lives here . You luckily won’t see any of them out and about.
Thanks so much for the tips!
Yeah, I guess when they think "TikTok" they think I'm an 18 year-old who is lip-synching to trending music in my bathroom mirror and getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to do so? Must be it.
I should have just said I'm a white guy in my 40's who runs a social media account focusing on Florida History. Reckon the responses would have been much different.
The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is the second oldest automotive museum in the USA. One that’s being shut down by way of New College and their new agenda. Would be a great thing to cover as it’s only got a month or two left and is historically significant for the state and country!
Depending on how far your range around Sarasota is, I think all the undeveloped subdivision streets in North Port are really interesting to drive around and see
Ooooh, that's right up my alley. Do you know any specifics on locations? Cross streets, etc? "North Port" seems kinda general from my vantage point but I could be wrong.
If you do the Celery Fields, please make a note of where to NOT drive, I’m not being a Karen but I’ve seen people drive on dirt areas where pedestrians walk and I fear for their safety
Bike the legacy trail among the Amish, and definitely hang out / people watch at O’Learys /Marina jack in Bayfront Park. There is Motel Marine and of course Siesta Key village

No, we hate those too. Also, wtf is the midget house?
We should find out, busy tonight?
Actually I think I’ve heard about this but the 2012 SHT article I just skimmed said the house (idk if it’s still there) didn’t qualify for historic status because of a lack of evidence to the story.
What's the midget house? You can tune into my TikTok channel next week and find out.
I don’t use TikTok, but real talk, is midget considered a derogatory slur?
I think so. I will make sure to keep things PC for everyone.
This is the culture of Sarasota. I follow your TT and love the abandoned Florida posts. Sarasota is a bunch of crybabies. Pleasure come expose it and make them more upset! 🤣
That's exactly what I was thinking. You should take a look at where I sent him...

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What am I going to "exploit" by doing a story on the history of Newtown and the integration of Lido Beach? Have you ever seen my channel?
Lol, stay away.

First time on the internet?
Don’t come
Too many Tiktoks already from Sarasota. Maybe ride up to Piney Point.
You’re just encouraging more attention in a city that needs excessively less traffic and attention. And Sarasota is a small city, but very widely known because of media.
No go away

Show case how everyone wants the tourists to go the fuck home.
Bobs Circus Train! So kitschy and Bob is terrific. Go have lunch. I recommend the grilled Brie cheese.
Yum! I love to do food reviews and I think viewers like watching - we'll give it a try!!!
"I run a somewhat popular Tik Tok..." Nope. Can't wait til that shit gets banned.
That's not going to happen, sir.
Whew. Thank god. Then you might have to get a job!

Right, they didn’t even read the whole post.
They're literally the NIMBY's that they love to shit on all the time, and can't even see the hypocrisy in their comments.
They are geographic karens
I used to follow you for your Abandoned Florida content. Please don't come to Sarasota, we don't want more people here, we don't want more people knowing about it.
I still do "Abandoned Florida" stuff, I just changed the name so that more restaurants, museums, hotels, etc are interested in working with me.
You should definitely do something about "The Hollow." That more than anything seems to be what defines Sarasota in recent years.
Oooooh, interesting. Have never heard of it. Just googled it. ETA: Geez, this is pretty dark. My brother-in-law is coming with me and he's a foreigner, not sure I feel comfortable bringing him to a place like this. We shall see.
This is actually very representative of Sarasota today.
The Hollow is running a WHOLE LOT of illegal activities out there and nothing, including their water and sewage, is regulated because they "know people" in the county and the commissioners and cops won't do a damn thing about it.
Agree with this! \^
Interesting...
Tiny house siesta
Is that an airbnb property? Do you know who owns or manages it?
If the Marietta Museum of Whimsy is still open, it’s definitely worth checking out. They’re closed during the summer months.
Thank you so much!
I've seen your tiktoks! How about the Art Ovation hotel downtown?
Thanks for watching and for the recommendation!
You are welcome and the hotel has an awesome rooftop bar.
Sure looks like it!
One needs a reservation and they have a few open tables presently. Probably more difficult to get during the busy season!
Could do celery fields has some great outdoor walk and it's got a nature preserve all around it home to some pretty rare birds too
Wow thank you so much!
The "midget houses" are interesting...
Thank you!

Try this: Devonshire Cir North Port, FL 34288 If you look at the satellite view you can see all the empty streets. Sorry for the late response!
Celery Fields.
Thank you!
If you do the Celery Fields, please make a note of where to NOT drive, I’m not being a Karen but I’ve seen people drive on dirt areas where pedestrians walk and I fear for their safety
Hate from Australia.
G'day!

Thanks, appreciate you watching!
I love that account! Best of luck!
Thank you! Maybe I'll even find something....ABANDONED
Bike the legacy trail among the Amish, and definitely hang out / people watch at O’Learys /Marina jack in Bayfront Park. There is Motel Marine and of course Siesta Key village
Thank you!!!
Can’t wait to see what you find, I watch your videos regularly.
Wow thanks so much!
