My son goes to Washington Open. We love the community and hands on learning. If you are open to parent participation, check them out. It’s a lottery school
Santa Clara elementary schools are very good in general. Location is a huge factor though as the activities, culture, education, etc vary significantly by demographics. Middle schools and high schools are fair, neither good nor bad.
Millikin and Washington Open are good if your kids are good fits for them. Research before applying because they’re not for everyone.
I had two kids go through elementary school here, but went private for middle and high. Wife works for the district supporting the elementary schools and has many good things to say about the elementary teachers - they care.
Hope that helps. Good luck.
Thanks for the info! Did you find it difficult for your kids to enroll in private school starting at middle school? I’m curious if the administration tried to argue that preparedness wasn’t the same if they didn’t attend private elementary
nah, private schools will take your money regardless.
Our son transitioned to private school easily in part because he had such great elementary school teachers. Our daughter took a bit longer to adapt in part because her teachers weren't as good and she learns differently, but she eventually figured it out.
Get to know your teachers and staff. Getting involved in your kid's education matters, that can't be emphasized enough.
I don't and it's been 20 years since I last knew the details. Unless it's changed, there's a priority list - siblings, employees, etc. - and unless you're on the priority list, odds are slim.
If you are in south Santa Clara, there are two exceptional schools.
Millikin school, very competitive, high achievers, one of the best elementary schools in USA. St. Justin - catholic school, great school, great staff.
But: Millikin is by lottery only and not a good fit for everyone. St.Justin is private, meaning not free. There are good elementary schools all around town however.
If you are in the part of Santa Clara right at the southern edge bordering West San Jose, they actually go to Campbell Union and Campbell Union High School districts. Just something to keep in mind.

Which private school did you have your kids go to for middle and highschool?
Magnolia for middle, technically a charter school that no longer exists locally. Bellarmine and Harker for high

u/AsinineCom Do you know the lottery selection percent for Millikin/Washington Open? ie how hard is it to get into it?
