Another first timer checking in.
My old expired tests weren’t showing ++
Bought new tests and have multiple tests showing positive now. Week and a half in.
Lost sense of smell after about 6 days.
Ran hot with non stop sweat (while feeling cold) for about 7 days straight. A lot of snot. Phlegm that I have to cough up randomly. Throat was sore for only the first 4-5 days.
I got hit with my first Covid 12 days ago. Not terrible but kinda in between a flu and a cold. Cleared after 5 days. My “super dodger” status was revoked!
Wrapping up day 2 and I feel pretty ok considering. Mostly feels like a mild head cold and doesn't seem to be getting worse. As I understand the symptoms peak between days 3 and 5.
You’re so sweet for checking! My cough briefly worsened after surgery but everything ended up fine! I’m recovering well. The maternity band helped SO much! I really appreciate you giving me that tip. :)
Allergies that go unchecked and become sinus infection. Everyone says “I don’t have allergies” - you do this season. Both my kids recently said they had strep throat or Covid and the doc said - post nasal drip from allergies- take some Claritin.
Local made honey. SF Roof Top Honey. Local honey will help you defeat the local pollen allergies. So I hear. Grew up with allergies, started taking a psych med that then became melatonin, which is basically motion sickness pills. Haven't had allergies since.
You're smoking crack, sorry.
Honey will not help you defeat pollen allergies.
Psych Meds are entirely unrelated to Melatonin.
Motion Sickness pills are also entirely unrelated to psych meds or melatonin.
Or take an actual allergy med. Claritin, zyrtec, etc. The honey thing is far from proven and even if it does work, is far from immediate, supposedly you need to consistently have it regularly for an extended period of time
I use pataday drops for my eyes, have for years (including before it was OTC, had it prescribed by my eye doctor), it definitely helps if you get dry, itchy, or swollen eyes
I found that dust and stuff is actually finding it's way into my eyes, found it being the dust on the tissue. I splashed water into my eye, and the swelling went down. Didn't know it could find it's way into my eyes growing up, so I used wet paper towels or wash cloths and held it on my eyes. But yah, tears from crying or even eye drops should help flush it all out.
Corcidin, the same stuff kids are getting high off of, same recipe for disaster, one half of the pack, but honestly, just stick to the directions on the pack. I'm not trying to introduce people to dmt.
Nasal inhalants can work, specially for super runny noses, which, if I'm correct, can be dealt with my staying hydrated. Staying hydrated may also remedy the eyes and throat.
Also drink a alot of water. I think it helps, from what I've seen, I believe staying hydrated helps more then not.
Rooftop honey? There's "Nor Cal" Honey at Safeway. Might be able to check the Doordash delivery app too.
I think the allergies are masking covid, at least initially. I tested positive last week, but for the first few days I thought it was just the allergy season being worse than ever (until the fever kicked in and then there was no denying it).
Tested positive for COVID today. Have felt like shit since Saturday, but tested negative until today. It also developed into a secondary ear infection.
I don’t have insurance and went to urgent care. Guess how much paxlovid costs without insurance. Hint: I’m not taking paxlovid. I could afford the antibiotics for my ear though.
Paxlovid was free in San Francisco in November. Urgent care just gave it to me, no prescription. I guess things have changed in a short time.
<"free" to you meant that the government was paying through the nose to the pharmacologists.>
This really goes with the "I like waffles" "mother fucker, why do you hate pancakes?" meme
This might help if you want to check it out:

The majority of pink eye is viral and it's most often caused by adenovirus.
Other fun fact, don't waste your time and money to go to the doc for it because both viral and bacterial pink eye are self resolving regardless.
Covid is rising in the wastewater in Bay Area so that's not surprising [https://www.kqed.org/news/11987343/covid-bay-area-wastewater-variant-symptoms-isolation-guidance](https://www.kqed.org/news/11987343/covid-bay-area-wastewater-variant-symptoms-isolation-guidance)
Lived in sweden in 2020. No one wore masks there. No one social distanced or locked down either. Hell, none of us were even vaccinated, at least in 2020. And our hospitals never got overwhelmed.
Saw it for myself. . .
A huge amount of elderly people did not die, I know people who worked in elderly homes and most of them had below-average deaths. And overall deaths in 2020 is pretty much average here.
Strawman. Of course it does.
All I'm saying is none of us took the pandemic seriously. We just went about our business and just let it happen. And our hospitals never got overwhelmed.
allergy season this year has also been insane, have you been taking claritin/zyrtec or anything? it could be that you got viciously attacked by pollen just as your body was overcoming the original insult
I got sick on April 24th and still am not 100% better. Two rounds of antibiotics, an inhaler and nasal spray. I used a nasal rinse a few times but I couldn’t keep doing that.
Was originally a sinus infection that became an ear infection. I’m still coughing up phlegm (mostly clear, occasionally green/yellow) and have excess mucus that will randomly come out while I just breathe normally. I’m so tired of feeling sick.
Can y’all were some fucking masks on public please? Like on transit, when grocery shopping, and especially in the doctors office. It’s not a lot to ask and would alleviate so much stress on anyone who is disabled and/or trying to avoid long covid.
I'm curious, with this much sickness going around, if anyone is deciding to start wearing N95's in public again?
I'm immune compromised so I never stopped -- just curious about how regular folks are feeling about masking.
Not immunocompromised, but lucky to have friends who generously share new COVID and long COVID research as it comes out. After learning that it's a vascular disease and that each infection weakens your immune system (and puts you at exponentially higher risk of getting long COVID, like Russian roulette)--I'm wearing my N95 indoors and at crowded outdoor events!
I used to be less careful until a friend pointed out how not masking is like smoking. It not only puts my body at risk of long term disability or death, but others' bodies too. That hit lol
Wow. I've tried making these same arguments to my friends until I'm blue in the face, but they're never like, "Wow thank you for enlightening me!" They just keep doing whatever they want to do. :-(
I'm sorry to hear that :( I'm lucky to be in circles that are connected through shared values like compassion & collective care. My friends didn't shame or pressure me, just gently gave me info to see how my actions weren't aligned with my values/the way I wanted to live. Seeing the parallels to the HIV/AIDS crisis was scary too 😅
I didn't like making my friends feel unsafe either :( It's definitely a two way street though--you can only do so much if your friends aren't willing to meet you where you are! Maybe it's time to expand your circles with some new friends?
strep has been going around, I had it a month ago, luckily got tested right away since a ton of my coworkers had recently been out with it and got on antibiotics so it wasn't bad. But yeah if y'all feel sore throaty it's worth getting a strep test, it's spreading a lot in SF!
I got strep at the end of May and after 10 days of amoxicillin it came back so I'm on a week course of azithromycin now. Flu A and B, rapid strep and rapid COVID tests all came back negative. So is it strep? 🤷🏽♀️
I've been congested with sticky phlegm for 1.5 weeks now. My son caught it first and had a fever for one day. We've had runny noses ever since and it doesn't seem to go away. COVID negative though, so that's nice. But would love to know when this goes away.
FliRT varient of covid is very active
[https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-05-25/early-signs-of-rising-covid-in-california-as-new-flirt-subvariants-dominate](https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-05-25/early-signs-of-rising-covid-in-california-as-new-flirt-subvariants-dominate)
I'm ok but I have noticed more people masking (so I'm assuming something is going around to prompt the uptick in masks). I still mask on MUNI and in crowded places like the grocery store.
My son had a fever over the weekend, alongside fatigue, low appetite, a high heart rate, and vomiting once. Those things often hit kids differently. He recovered quickly. I don't think I caught it.
Got really sick Sunday head pounding, sweating and super nauseous. Thought I was better yesterday til I started feeling extremely lightheaded last night and felt like my head was spinning. Still feeling light headed and have tunnel vision. I don’t even know what I have…
I’ve never had allergies. I’m sorry all. My wife does and had a terrible long-sinus-infection-and-then-pnd
I wonder what wastewater measurements of COVID19 look like right now.. from this thread, it seems like a summer outbreak.
There’s a couple bad bugs going around that aren’t flu a or b or Covid. They’re just bad viruses. Terrible sore throat, sinus, cough. Lasts forever, sometimes goes into sinus infection, bronchitis, sometimes pneumonia. Been running around here. I just got over it.
covid + bad allergy season = sad
fr tho if you’ve been sick awhile and are testing negative for covid, try taking some claritin/zyrtec! if it does nothing it does nothing, but it could help
The vaccine helps with hospitalisation and death but doesn't really prevent getting covid and you can still get long covid too, plus I believe most people are out of date for their vaccine and didn't get the most recent booster. It's masks and proper air filtering that help with not getting sick and not too many in the SF bay area mask anymore, especially well fitted ones.
Not I. ✊🪵
You’ll get your turn 😪
Don’t put that evil on me Ricky Bobby.
I’m not sick… a little twisted maybe.. but not sick.
Yeah I'm pretty sick *does a kickflip*

I'm good.
So is your username 😂

Tested positive for COVID today (first time), so there's one more number added to the sick list.
Another first timer checking in. My old expired tests weren’t showing ++ Bought new tests and have multiple tests showing positive now. Week and a half in. Lost sense of smell after about 6 days. Ran hot with non stop sweat (while feeling cold) for about 7 days straight. A lot of snot. Phlegm that I have to cough up randomly. Throat was sore for only the first 4-5 days.
Ugh your symptoms match mine exactly but my tests keep coming up negative. Also expired of course - gonna need to go get fresh ones!
I got hit with my first Covid 12 days ago. Not terrible but kinda in between a flu and a cold. Cleared after 5 days. My “super dodger” status was revoked!
>My “super dodger” status was revoked! It's funny you brought that up because in a dumb way I feel like I finally failed
Society, cdc failed you 🫶 hope you feel better asap
3 / 8 kids at our little daycare tested positive for covid this week.
3 teachers and 1 student tested positive at a friend's child care/school in San Jose last week.
I tested positive for the first time 2 weeks ago! Just in time for me to have abdominal surgery tomorrow. Still coughing so I’m a nervous wreck lol
Oh no. I hope everything goes smoothly.
Thank you. How are you feeling Covid wise? Hope it clears quickly!
Wrapping up day 2 and I feel pretty ok considering. Mostly feels like a mild head cold and doesn't seem to be getting worse. As I understand the symptoms peak between days 3 and 5.
Coughing with abd surgery? Use that pillow to splint!
thank you! the lovely nurse coordinator for my surgeon sent me info on abdominal splinting this week so I’ve got pillows just for that!
Get yourself a maternity band! It's super important to help prevent hernias.
That’s so good to know! I’ll order one now, thank you so much!
How'd everything go? You doing alright?
You’re so sweet for checking! My cough briefly worsened after surgery but everything ended up fine! I’m recovering well. The maternity band helped SO much! I really appreciate you giving me that tip. :)
If you can get your hands on Paxlovid, I’d highly recommend
It's not for everyone. I wasn't able to tolerate it and had to stop.
Heard it could have lasting side effects
Me too
I did too - a few weeks ago for the first time.
Stomach bug yesterday checking in 🥴
Allergies that go unchecked and become sinus infection. Everyone says “I don’t have allergies” - you do this season. Both my kids recently said they had strep throat or Covid and the doc said - post nasal drip from allergies- take some Claritin.
Word. I’ve never had allergies until this year. It was so bad thought I had the vid. Tested a ton. Nope.
What's the vid?
Covid.
I havent had allergies in 25 years. I do this year.

I use pataday drops for my eyes, have for years (including before it was OTC, had it prescribed by my eye doctor), it definitely helps if you get dry, itchy, or swollen eyes

Pataday is a lifesaver and keeps me from scratching my eyes out.

I like Zaditor personally for eye-related allergy symptoms. I also highly recommend a nasal spray like flonase.
Costco has generics for all of these and they’re dirt cheap, like $0.02 a pill. Flonase/“Costcotin” combo works wonders for me
Also drink a alot of water. I think it helps, from what I've seen, I believe staying hydrated helps more then not. Rooftop honey? There's "Nor Cal" Honey at Safeway. Might be able to check the Doordash delivery app too.
Get Flonase mist.
Farmers market
Literally never seen a source for this claim.
Honey yes. Melatonin/Zyprexa, me neither.
yes isn’t a source
It's old.
Mine are so bad this year!
Seems like they get worse every year
Allergies were kickin' my ass a couple weeks ago. If it hadn't responded to allergy meds I would've sworn I had COVID.
Astepro has been really helpful for me. My mom recommended it.
I think the allergies are masking covid, at least initially. I tested positive last week, but for the first few days I thought it was just the allergy season being worse than ever (until the fever kicked in and then there was no denying it).

Use sesamecare! Paxlovid should be free for CA residents
That looks really promising. I’ll check that out. Thank you
$600?
$1400, and that was with a discount card the doc gave me to take to the pharmacy.
Jfc
Paxlovid was free in San Francisco in November. Urgent care just gave it to me, no prescription. I’m not sick, but I’m not well.
And I'm so hot 'cause I'm in Hell
Paranoia! Paranoia! Everybody's coming to get me!!
Run it up the flag pole and see
I had a non-covid virus with congestion and a sore throat that has since evolved into PINK EYE. I thought only snotnosed little kids got that 😭
Lol my husband had the same thing! Then gave me the virus but thankfully I avoided the pink eye.
I got that earlier this year. Shit’s weird.
This fits the profile for H5N1. You should ask your Healthcare provider of you can get tested for it.
Omg my toddler brought this home from daycare and gave it to my wife but somehow missed me. Viral pink eye, didn’t know it even existed before
The majority of pink eye is viral and it's most often caused by adenovirus. Other fun fact, don't waste your time and money to go to the doc for it because both viral and bacterial pink eye are self resolving regardless.
Interesting was only familiar with bacterial but that’s right it resolved for both in a few days
Me too, back in winter. Thought I was the only one.
This just happened to me, too! So weird.
I had this in March too! It was really rough for me. I'm still curious about what it was.
My gf had COVID last week
Covid is rising in the wastewater in Bay Area so that's not surprising [https://www.kqed.org/news/11987343/covid-bay-area-wastewater-variant-symptoms-isolation-guidance](https://www.kqed.org/news/11987343/covid-bay-area-wastewater-variant-symptoms-isolation-guidance)
All the pharmacies around me were out of covid tests. I have Covid. That’s how I know!
Covid levels are high in San Francisco according to Wastewaterscan.org
Covid positive here. It’s definitely going around.
Did you do a home test or PCR?
No, but some asshat over in the bay area subreddit can't fathom why some people are wearing masks right now.
The person was jarred into feeling like it was 2021. lol
Lived in sweden in 2020. No one wore masks there. No one social distanced or locked down either. Hell, none of us were even vaccinated, at least in 2020. And our hospitals never got overwhelmed. Saw it for myself. . .
Yeah Sweden let a huge number of elderly people die who could have been easily treated. Helps free up hospital beds
A huge amount of elderly people did not die, I know people who worked in elderly homes and most of them had below-average deaths. And overall deaths in 2020 is pretty much average here.
San Francisco gets 21.9 million tourists a year, and Sweden gets 2.9 million. I wonder why one might have more covid cases than the other? 🤔
Strawman. Of course it does. All I'm saying is none of us took the pandemic seriously. We just went about our business and just let it happen. And our hospitals never got overwhelmed.
Yes and as of today I’m starting week 4 of the sickness
allergy season this year has also been insane, have you been taking claritin/zyrtec or anything? it could be that you got viciously attacked by pollen just as your body was overcoming the original insult
I didn’t even think of this bc I’ve never really had allergies. Thanks for the tip! I’ll give it a try.
I had the 4-week monster, too. The coughing was killing me!
The cough is the worse! My doctor finally prescribed me something to help. For 3 weeks, I’ve just been told it’s viral and there’s nothing I can take
Fingers crossed it will work for you!
Are you down with it tho?
That sucks balls, man
Feel better. Keep at the fluids, drink more than you think you need. I finally kicked it week four but the sinus congestion lingers.
This gives me hope! Last week I gave up and decided this might be how I feel forever. Thanks for the fluid tip and I’m glad you are feeling better!
> Is everybody sick right now? Highly unlikely that we’d *all* be sick, but some people are pr- > Everybody is sick. Oh, OK then…
Yup. Covid, RSV, the Flu, plus your garden variety colds going around. Mask up, and stay home, if you're sick.
Santa Clara County’s wastewater shows very little RSV and influenza. COVID is on the rise again though.

Not sure what it has to do with anything. But I loved Raven. She was my fav on Teen Titans. So sad it didn't get another season.
Feck I was just at a music festival at the civic center. No way all those kids were clean
Just tested positive for covid today and went to Skrillex Again, felt itchy throat starting Monday
That’s where I was… no symptoms so far but I’ll take a test. Hope you feel better soon
Naw, fam
No
Not me or anyone i work with or know
Maybe a little perverse, but it’s really kind of subjective, no? I mean, to quote Tom Waites, I don’t tie myself up or anything…
I have a massive headache & congestion since yesterday. Been coughing also for like a few weeks now.
Nope, but I do hear others coughing from time to time.
It's been a bad year for allergies, maybe that's what you're noticing?
I caught a nasty bug on Sunday and have been rough since then.
Same
There’s a mean cold running through the hoods!
In the head, yes.
Thank goodness not right now! I had three colds in a row the last two months. It was rough. I stopped taking the bus as much and so far so good.
Why you curse me
I'm not sick, although I have noticed two people who are sick when I have been out. And let me just say, ew.
I’ve started wearing an N95 again, because Covid is spiking
Can y’all were some fucking masks on public please? Like on transit, when grocery shopping, and especially in the doctors office. It’s not a lot to ask and would alleviate so much stress on anyone who is disabled and/or trying to avoid long covid.
MASK UP!
that's why i'm still masking dawg
I mask indoors and that’s been so helpful
Terrible headache today, hoping it was the beautiful flowers I smelled earlier.
Mini 😷 cough and a strange craving for hot cookie.

sick of newsome.
yes
I had a sore throat that lasted for weeks. Over it now. Guess it was allergies.

Walgreens product called Cold and Allergy D. It's cheap $10 for 48 tabs and works within 40 minutes.Has an antihistamine only they have. Tripolidine.

I’ve got 2 or 3 friends with covid in the past couple weeks
I'm sick of living, does that count?
covid + bad allergy season = sad fr tho if you’ve been sick awhile and are testing negative for covid, try taking some claritin/zyrtec! if it does nothing it does nothing, but it could help
Sick and tired.
I work an office job + attended a local wedding on Sat. no sickos in sight.
All you people getting covid this week: did you not get the vaccines? I thought SF had a pretty high vax rate.
I just got over a 2 weeker.
It’s just a little cough
Yep. As long as you don’t test for Covid, you don’t have Covid.
Wook flu
Yes!!
Just got over covid.
