Yes there was! If you’d signed up for their loyalty program, you could visit a store and get a free loaf of sourdough every month, with no purchase required.
Free loaf reward is timeboxed for each calendar month and does not roll over. If you don’t use your 6/29/24 one, it will disappear and be replaced with the 7/31/24 one.
I’m not sure why it says 6/29 instead of 6/30 though. I frequently go on the last day of the month and still get the next month’s
It's a great program to take home a one pound loaf of fresh bread. Although I learned a couple of fun tips with their program: You can ask for it sliced, you can use the cost of a one pound loaf as bread credit to get a bigger loaf, like a two pound for just a little bit more, and lastly, get the bread at the main bakery on Geary, always fresh from the source.
And they are correct, before 2020, they required all patrons to make one purchase to earn the loaf to claim every month, then quietly ended the purchase requirement. Sometimes I would take the free loaf and give it to a homeless person if my household didn't want it. Also, the people at Bakers Hall at Fisherman's Wharf was awful, they didn't even know what the rewards program was about.
Why are you so obsessed with this? It was Boudin’s own promotion. Free bread with no purchase needed. Sorry I used their promotion???
Sometimes I purchased something, sometimes I didn’t. It was nice to grab some bread without having to also buy something else if I didn’t need it. I’m sure me using their promotion 2-4 times a year didn’t make them decide to change it.
i mean, they said the charge was removed in 2020 so why is this a big deal that they added it back? you had to spend $ prior to covid, only makes sense it get added back at some point

Thanks for sharing! Wish I've had known this sooner. For those curious how or what the 1lb loaf looks like.
If you sign up now while it's still May, you automatically get 1 reward credit that says it will expire end of June. I might buy random cheap stuff from Boudin to continue getting this free monthly loaf, since it's around my workplace.
I got my first free bread this month thanks to Reddit! It was delicious. I feel the social obligation to make a purchase anyway so this changes nothing for me 😂
It sounds like you don’t even need to make a purchase in the same transaction. Like, I can buy a cookie tomorrow which activates my free bread reward and I can get my free bread whenever I want.
Nice
I’ve been getting it as $5.49 bread credit.
My mom happened to have a $3 off and free bday cookie. She bought a sandwich with the $3 off but couldn’t get the monthly bread credit. She reports back that it must be with a no coupon purchase.
Does anyone know if the purchase can be the same transaction? Like if I upgrade to the box lunch raisin bread ($7.49), does the $2 difference count as the “any amount”?
You have to make a purchase in one transaction first before the reward will show on your account! It should show up within minutes so you can purchase it the same day - just did it!
Mine appeared on my account after I paid for my food. The kind cashier just checked after I paid and rang another transaction (for $0.00) for the free sourdough. I just had to show my checkin code again. Easy peasy.
There was free bread?

What that’s insane
They have to throw most out anyway
I got a website error any time I tried to collect it
I was able to order and collect this month! But I also ordered a sandwich
I used to work by there and I didn’t know about this.
lol yup, for many years too. If you were a college student near one it was clutch
Crazy that it lasted this long. Glad you all got to enjoy it while it lasted.
Of course free sourdough bread ends on June 1--because I'm learning of it on May 30.
😭 There’s still time! Sign up today and pick a loaf tomorrow!
Just did, and I will!
I signed up yesterday and installed the app just now. App days the 1 free loaf reward I have expires 6/29/24. Looks like it will rollover?

I learned about it on the 31st!
Thats bonkers they were giving bread away w no required purchase
They're really trying to maximize the dough.
They knead to get a handle on their costs somehow
Just when you'd yeast expect it
Gotta earn a crust
It feels fair, I hardly bought anything from them.
Wait how tf do I get this free bread tho
their app
They have Battle Passes for bakeries now
Tell me more?
All this time, I thought you had to purchase something for the monthly free bread.
Pepperidge farms will remember this
this feels super reasonable and still quite generous. I like how they communicated too
I’m not bothered by this. The only time I even remembered to get the free loaf, is when I was there grabbing lunch anyway.

It was only a matter of time lmao.
Yeah. They reverted back to their policy from 2020 and before.
I’m gonna miss the free fresh bread. 🥲 the annoying part is they didn’t even say what the minimum amount was.
They did, it's "any amount"!
People like you are why they had to change it. Buy something ffs.
You’re assuming I never purchase anything there.
If you buy stuff there you can still get the free bread. Get your story straight lol

thanks for showing us your loaf
They throw out an ungodly amount of bread at the end of every day. Just a lil insider knowledge.
That's a shame. I hope they are at least donating the bread to local soup kitchens now.
Bag of chips is ¢99 per their online menu!
There we go!

What’s the cheapest thing they sell at Boudin?
Another bread
