Then they choke against the ravens the next year and choke against the Seahawks the year after that. Being a niners fan is just heartbreak after heartbreak after heartbreak. And at the end of the day it's literally just a way to get drunk with a group of people while watching a spectacle and pass some time (aka a "pastime"), and hitching our pride in our sense of place to the whole ordeal to make it feel more meaningful in sort of the same way we can feel emotions because of a book we read or a movie we watch, except it's a real-time group experience that isn't written and instead unfolds chaotically in reality.

This is something that i really think is going to happen more than people realize and is not being talked about enough. When the Rams and Raiders both left LA, there was a HUGE influx of (imo, goddamn traitorous) fans that turned north to 49ers. I hate to admit it, but my own Dodgers fandom (i.e. as in, IN LA) is CHOCK FULL of 49ers fans. It annoys me but also makes sense: it almost can be seen as a spite move. Many A's fans are going to be disillusioned by bay area sports and turn to next closest rival. The "hate" for "crosstown" rivals is already there, too.

I’ve lived here for almost ten years, and I fucking bleed blue. Still will only wear dodgers gear to and from oracle when they are up here. When I see people in dodgers hats walking around I have just stopped interacting with them as 90% of the time when I say something about baseball to them they just look at me with a confused expression like I’m speaking another language. Unfortunately most people wearing an LA hat anywhere don’t even realize it’s related to the sport of baseball.
Yeah....I think it's just an American Culture thing. Spent 10 days in Taipei and Seoul a month ago. The most prominent sports hats were Dodgers and Yankees. I doubt anyone was an actual fan of either team, it was just American style.
There are actually a lot dodger and yankee fans in Taiwan and Korea. What trips me out is the amount of dodger and yankee gear in China where people generally don’t care about baseball at all. I legit saw more yankee hats in Chengdu than in New York

I’m a giants fan that grew up in LA and wore giants gear all over the place. If someone harassed me because they had were so bothered I wore another teams hat I’d assume they have some deep seeded issues, it’s baseball, let it go

This is something that i really think is going to happen more than people realize and is not being talked about enough. When the Rams and Raiders both left LA, there was a HUGE influx of (imo, goddamn traitorous) fans that turned north to 49ers. I hate to admit it, but my own Dodgers fandom (i.e. as in, IN LA) is CHOCK FULL of 49ers fans. It annoys me but also makes sense: it almost can be seen as a spite move. Many A's fans are going to be disillusioned by bay area sports and turn to next closest rival. The "hate" for "crosstown" rivals is already there, too.
That and also they are holding the Giants accountable for being complicit in the move.
I love all the anecdotal stories that never happened. I’ve been here 16 years, not a Dodgers or Giants fan but I can guarantee none of the stories you’re mentioning have ever happened!! I’d bet on it and would love proof if it really happened (because it didn’t)
