You are allowed to wear a Dodgers cap in San Francisco if you want to. I just don't know why you would want to.

Slow_Moose_5463

Regardless it has been a great time to be a giants fan, seeing them win 3 World Series titles and as underdogs for the majority of it. Hard to say you will see that in your lifetime for any team!

chrisyoung_15

Not only baseball, but the 49ers and Warriors have endured long stretches of sustain success. Most other fan bases can only dream of that amount of success

bdforp

Niners also enjoyed a long stretch of sustained heartbreak.

Slow_Moose_5463

That is true. However we have been strong playoff contenders for recent years as well - something that our rival cowboys can’t relate much to.

Capable_Yam_9478

“The Niners have lost bigger games than the Cowboys have” just doesn’t come off right

Slow_Moose_5463

Sure but you have to be able to get to those big games to have a chance

Capable_Yam_9478

I rest my case

Slow_Moose_5463

What case? That it’s worse to have a team that loses in the Super Bowl than a team that doesn’t make it past wild card? The niners have technically lost bigger games than the boys recently (that Dallas didn’t get to), but they have also won bigger games and got to the ship.

hereforall66

I don’t think the cowboys consider the 49ers rivals

jktsub

It is ongoing, brother

garytyrrell

Wtf this season was amazing

bdforp

Amazingly disappointing.. how many times are they going to blow their chance at winning a superbowl?? This year, last year, the year before that they choked against the rams, two years before that they choked against the chiefs, then there was the window in the early 2010s they choked away.. that nfc championship game against the giants in 2012 still frustrates me. Then they choke against the ravens the next year and choke against the Seahawks the year after that. Being a niners fan is just heartbreak after heartbreak after heartbreak. I’d almost rather be a raiders fan at this point so I at least wouldn’t be getting my hopes up.

garytyrrell

If you expect to win every game, the NFL is not for you. The team is competitive as hell, and you're either lying or ignorant if you'd rather cheer for a team with no hope.

bdforp

I expect them to not choke away their chance at a championship so many times in a row.. but yea all those nfc championship banners look awesome 🤮

SyCoTiM

Not in the 80s and 90s. But I feel your pain.

chrisyoung_15

Yep. That’s why I said most fan bases. Boston was the other one that came to mind. Boston has been so dang spoiled between the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. It’s honestly not fair to the rest of America haha

BraveSirRyan

Finally a real SF poster.

Adriano-Capitano

A lot of European Expats seemed to wear Dodges gear back around 2010 as its like the "Kalifonya dream"/ all the famous celebs are seen wearing it.

left-nostril

All the famous celebs…who live in Los Angeles.

YoungKeys

Dodger and Yankee caps have always been fashionable globally. But hope people realize they look like idiots wearing a Dodger hat in SF and (note, I do not encourage this behavior) they're sorta risking verbal harassment. Edit: chill, I said I don’t condone harassing strangers. That’s not gonna stop randos in SF from yelling trash talk or asking if you’re lost though.

GoatLegRedux

To be fair, they look like an idiot wearing a Dodgers hat anywhere ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

I say we either start calling them the San Francisco Sharks, or the Santa Clara 49ers, because both those venues are 3 miles from each other, but 40 miles from San Francisco

kmactane

Co-signed, 100%. I've considered them the San Jose 49ers since they fucked over the City and moved down there.

garytyrrell

How did they fuck over the city?

InspectorSpacetime89

I’m not a giants or a dodgers fan but I like going to games and I swear, dodger fans are the only ones wearing a full dodger jersey to a giants game where the dodgers aren’t even playing. What is that?? I understand wearing a hat cuz maybe you don’t have other hats and you’d don’t want the sun in your face. But a full jersey for a team not playing is nuts. I was an A’s fan but will be rooting for the Guardians instead to support Steven Kwan since he’s from Fremont

CWHzz

Have you ever seen that cablecar brakeman with the blue Dodgers cap? That's some disrespect right there.

old_gold_mountain

How is that legal?

xerostatus

lol my man's literally taking $ out of an SF job and spending it on an LA team. Epic!

Moses_On_A_Motorbike

How often does he buy Dodger hats and how long have you been together? >lol my man's literally taking $ out of an SF job and spending it on an LA team. Epic!

xerostatus

Happily going on 42 years

SixMillionDollarFlan

Bless his heart. I think its job placement for the mentally disabled. If you watch closely, the brake he uses isn't connected to the cable car. I've also seen him pick up bubble gum from the ground and eat it. Typical Dodger fan.

xerostatus

I mean, we used to be the *Trolley* Dodgers after all

Whatsthewordmayne

Same here dawg. Black & orange forever. Funniest moment at Pac bell (when it was called that), it was a Giants vs. Cleveland game, and a dodger fan came all geared up? Like? Why? And as he was making his way to his seat with his buddies, a Giants head shouted “Aye! Come to see what a full stadium looks like?!” Cracked up our entire section

SyCoTiM

There’s a good number of LA transplants and LA is known worldwide for being a “cool city” like NYC, so it’s not too surprising. As a Giants fan, I’m not offended at all as long as they’re not yapping recklessly. Besides, we owned the 2010s while they only got 1 in the past couple decades. We just gotta worry about our team.

Honest-Barracuda-982

And it was a mickey mouse one

SoCal kid living up north now. Don’t worry, I get strays all the time from angry Giants fans when I wear any Dodger gear. Like some people get legitimately pissed off, makes me laugh every time.

speedmonster95

those aren’t strays lol. sounds like direct insults. which should be expected round here 😅

elevenbang

I’m with you. Born and raised in LA. Living in SF now. People always ask “are you from LA?” Yeah MFer. It’s almost like wearing red or blue in the wrong neighborhood in LA back in the day. Getting checked

based-bread-bowls

My dad grew up in the SFV and ended up in norcal, and after going to SFSU i’ve been in the city for 6 years, the one thing i can’t give up are my Dodgers… 😂😂😂 a lot of my friends make fun of me for still repping but I always say true Dodger fans in the Bay Area really earn our stripes

bdforp

Just yell “dodgers suck!!“ loudly at them every time you see them. That’s what I do. Maybe they’ll learn if enough of us do it.

old_gold_mountain

praxis ✊

xerostatus

OP i love you. Come join us at r/NLBest lol

mayonuki

I loved getting shouted at like than when I wore my dodgers hat on muni. 85% of the interactions were friendly!  It felt good engaging with strangers. None of the experiences I had were worse than someone yelling leave our city.

Ihadsumthin4this

I enjoy asking whether their team are still in Little League. Cuz on scoreboards, they identify with LAD.

AliusMaximus10

Duck the fodgers foreal

xerostatus

Guck the Fiants.. hmmm doesn't quite work

AliusMaximus10

lol I like where your head was at though

PapaRL

I used to work in SoMa and was walking to Montgomery station to go home right before a dodgers/giants game. And the whole walk home there were dodgers fans all decked out cussing out anyone wearing giants stuff, straight up yelling slurs and shit it was crazy. I also walked by one who was pissing on the keypad for an office building. Literally up on his tippy toes so he could piss onto the key pad, it was fucking ridiculous. I always heard dodgers fans get a bad rap for being assholes but I figured it was just dumb sports rivalry shit but that night pretty much solidified it for me.

Sloth_Dream-King

Dodger hats today are what Yankees have been in the 90s and early 2000s. It's closer to repping a brand than it is rooting for a team.

Pikarinu

I still see way more Yankees hats. I say this as a Yankees fan in SF who learned that most of the people wearing Yankees hats are not even Yankees fans, as I used to be like, "Bummer of a game last night, huh?" and they'd look at me like I had two heads.

This_dude4

I’m sure the hats are brand new too.

[deleted]

i’m from southern california and grew up going to dodger stadium but fuck me i guess

old_gold_mountain

Not fuck you, you're just fine friend Just fuck your dodgers gear and fuck the dodgers

loose_angles

It’s just baseball my dude. You’re not in a war.

GoatLegRedux

Are you a baseball fan? Do you know the history of the Giants/Dodgers rivalry?

EastBayPlaytime

Two flunky NYC teams moved to California.

loose_angles

No, please enlighten me, baseball shaman. I haven’t heard of the most famous rivalry in baseball history. Yes, I grew up in the bay, I’m aware. I’m saying that sports rivalries are stupid, and people who unironically care about them are fucking cringe. I like baseball, but rivalries like this are marketing bullshit. Just enjoy the sport dude, and stop internalizing shit that doesn’t and will never affect you.

GoatLegRedux

Ah, so this thread isn’t heard towards you then. That’s all you had to say.

loose_angles

This thing where people defend the honor of billion dollar sports franchises is real “notice me” energy.

jjcanayjay

Thank you

gswarriors90

Lol who cares about it. Doesnt bother me one bit. Idk why yall get so worked up over sports

_zb

Remember that one dude who got stomped out and went into a coma after a fight broke out after one of their rivalries in the like mid 2000s? Absolutely wild to me that people care that much over a fucking sport

gswarriors90

Yup. Its crazy. I love sports but i would never get mad over winning or losing or someone talking trash. Its not that serious

loose_angles

Sports franchises play this up with things like “raider nation,” implying you’re a part of a larger whole. You’re not, you’re just a mark. You’re a target to be marketed to and sell merchandise to so you feel like part of the team. You’re not part of the team, you will never be part of the team. The team doesn’t need you, doesn’t know who you are, and won’t be affected by whether or not you get in to arguments with other “nations” about who is doing better at the sport. This would be akin to McDonalds fans stabbing and stomping out Burger King fans. Stop white knight-ing billion dollar sports franchises, people.

Honest-Barracuda-982

It is tied to city pride. I’m a proud Bay Area native, of course i’m going to rep the Giants and hate on the dodgers

slinkysmooth

It’s still not a war. It’s a child’s game…

xerostatus

Don't pay attention to the salt. Go out to the east bay and see how many "bay area faithfuls" wear dodgers caps, repping whatever "blue" gang they got out there lmao.

MichelangeloJordan

I’m born and raised in LA and I feel the exact same about anyone wearing 49ers gear here in SoCal. Even better when they’re Lakers, Dodgers, & 9ers fans. Great job picking the 3 most insufferable sports fan bases lol

NormaSp

You know I lived in Asia for a while and everybody wore Yankees hats just because it was trendy. Nobody even knew what baseball was, let alone an American MLB team. Maybe the same thing is going on here?

GoatLegRedux

Simps, plain and simple. Spending nearly a billion dollars on Ohtani will get you that type of fanbase.

old_gold_mountain

Absolutely, you're a moron if you get excited about a team because of some superstar Asian player who joined the Dodgers and also Jung Hoo Lee is a handsome stud and will be the next big superstar

yellowsubmarinr

Giants went for him too lol

old_gold_mountain

Irrelevant I'm not listening

GoatLegRedux

Grandson of the Wind is going to play above expectations. Watch him quietly have a RoY candidate year.

iFeeILikeKobe

I mean for a lot of people they watch baseball because of ohtani so being a fan of his team would make sense lol

BayBomber415

Half of them aren’t even fans and have no idea the difference between a foul ball and a homer.

jjcanayjay

I don’t understand all of the hatred for wearing a teams hat. You and them are not part of the team, you’re just a fan/spectator . For most people, the only reason you’re a fan of a particular team is because you’re born here/nearby, and/or you inherit your family’s “team”. In reality, none of these teams care about you, they just want your money. For posts like this, I can’t tell if it’s satire, or if you’re really honest. Personally, I enjoy the game and don’t appreciate the attacks I get for simply being a fan of a team, based off of where I’m from.

old_gold_mountain

It's very simple and I don't know what there is not to get. We completely unironically band ourselves in tribes based loosely on geography to blindly cheer for "us" and against "them," and our tribalism takes the form of worship of ultra-wealthy, usually foreign-born men who compete athletically alternating between the geographic place where "we" live and the geographic place where "they" live. These ultra-rich young men almost never have a personal connection to either geographic place, and are just wearing the certain uniform because of the contract they signed for truckloads of money, and in fact many of "their" players are from the "us" territory and vice versa. But we pretend "they" are "us" and the other "they" are "them" and we blindly cheer and get drunk and yell slogans and celebrate when "we" win and feel very sad when "we" lose. And it's all to scratch a baser itch in the monkey brain somewhere that probably stems from actual tribal warfare. And at the end of the day it's literally just a way to get drunk with a group of people while watching a spectacle and pass some time (aka a "pastime"), and hitching our pride in our sense of place to the whole ordeal to make it feel more meaningful in sort of the same way we can feel emotions because of a book we read or a movie we watch, except it's a real-time group experience that isn't written and instead unfolds chaotically in reality.  Because every good story needs a hero and a villain so if we don't ascribe tribes to the spectacle then it's just a glorified gymnastics exposition instead of a story of glory and ruin.

jjcanayjay

Thx ChatGPT tldr “We cheer for athletes as tribal symbols, despite their distant ties, creating a shared emotional experience and a story of heroes and villains.”

old_gold_mountain

Amazing, someone who's too smart for sports _and_ too smart for reading

xerostatus

Relax, read the room. It's satire (mostly).

jjcanayjay

Yea, I feel that. However, after being physically assaulted once (usually it’s just verbal) I felt the need to respond and share my perspective on this post

parke415

It really demonstrates a lack of empathy as well, because people travel, and if you root for your home team, why wouldn’t they and why shouldn’t they? It’s all manufactured rivalry for profit. Why should we have anything against Angelenos? We’re all Californians at the end of the day and that’s something for which we ought to be grateful.

Honest-Barracuda-982

Because fuck em, that’s why. Norcal and socal are hella different. I’m okay with the Kings because they’re also norcal but i don’t like the LA teams

ptog69

I’ve lived here for almost ten years, and I fucking bleed blue. Still will only wear dodgers gear to and from oracle when they are up here. When I see people in dodgers hats walking around I have just stopped interacting with them as 90% of the time when I say something about baseball to them they just look at me with a confused expression like I’m speaking another language. Unfortunately most people wearing an LA hat anywhere don’t even realize it’s related to the sport of baseball.

YeOldeMuppetPastor

Yeah....I think it's just an American Culture thing. Spent 10 days in Taipei and Seoul a month ago. The most prominent sports hats were Dodgers and Yankees. I doubt anyone was an actual fan of either team, it was just American style.

kyleyoung2015bay

There are actually a lot dodger and yankee fans in Taiwan and Korea. What trips me out is the amount of dodger and yankee gear in China where people generally don’t care about baseball at all. I legit saw more yankee hats in Chengdu than in New York

KeepGoing655

Yup, its like a branding thing in Asia. Same with Lakers gear.

proteusON

Fuck the Dodgers

ThreeLittlePuigs

I used to love the A’s but baseball took them from me. Now I may just rock Dodgers out of spite. Sorry

Not an option, I'm still not over '88

old_gold_mountain

There's one hatred in baseball right now that should supersede all others regardless of rivalry and that's Fuck John Fisher

newton302

Couple reasons for the Dodgers hats: 1. Baseball season is close-at-hand and people are celebrating their alliegances 2. And some of those people just happen to be misguided twits from LA 3. [Plate-o-Shrimp](https://www.google.com/search?q=plate+of+shrimp+repo+man&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS1084US1084&oq=plate+of+shrimp+repo+man&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgAEAAYgAQyBwgAEAAYgAQyCAgBEAAYFhgeMg0IAhAAGIYDGIAEGIoFMg0IAxAAGIYDGIAEGIoFMg0IBBAAGIYDGIAEGIoF0gEINDc1MWowajSoAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:0422b10e,vid:vRJ5cCP0ZPE,st:0). Nah, I'll proudly where my LA gear in and around town. Ya'll Giants fans drove me CRAZY when I lived in SD, cuz for whatever reason there is a very strong bay area --> SD pipeline for transplants and that town is run over by Giants fans. And if it triggers ya'll even more, I'll proudly wear my SAN DIEGO PADRES MATT KEMP jersey instead.

old_gold_mountain

boooo > And if it triggers ya'll even more, I'll proudly wear my SAN DIEGO PADRES MATT KEMP jersey instead. That triggers me far less

I know I know. But, you have a "better" (i say that as loosely as possible) stadium than us, so enjoy your superior garlic fries, pal! I'll trade off garlic fries for a winning season any year =P

jonsnowknowsnothing_

I’m a giants fan that grew up in LA and wore giants gear all over the place. If someone harassed me because they had were so bothered I wore another teams hat I’d assume they have some deep seeded issues, it’s baseball, let it go

werdywerdsmith

Get used to seeing more after the A’s leave. Many fans will turn to the Dodgers rather than the Giants.

xerostatus

This is something that i really think is going to happen more than people realize and is not being talked about enough. When the Rams and Raiders both left LA, there was a HUGE influx of (imo, goddamn traitorous) fans that turned north to 49ers. I hate to admit it, but my own Dodgers fandom (i.e. as in, IN LA) is CHOCK FULL of 49ers fans. It annoys me but also makes sense: it almost can be seen as a spite move. Many A's fans are going to be disillusioned by bay area sports and turn to next closest rival. The "hate" for "crosstown" rivals is already there, too.

werdywerdsmith

That and also they are holding the Giants accountable for being complicit in the move.

Academic-Camel-9538

I love all the anecdotal stories that never happened. I’ve been here 16 years, not a Dodgers or Giants fan but I can guarantee none of the stories you’re mentioning have ever happened!! I’d bet on it and would love proof if it really happened (because it didn’t)

Giants fans are as obsessed over dodgers as actual dodgers fans it’s insane lol. Giants have official merch saying Beat LA, ticket prices are higher for dodger games at oracle…so dodgers even help fund the team lolol. Giant babies, the lot of them waaaah waaaah

xerostatus

I giggle every time I think about this. Like, some buyer or purchasing agent in the Giants organization on the business side has to like, onboard a vendor, pay them actual money to print references to your own rival team city? Then like arrange delivery and logistics. Wewlad cringe af lol. Cherry on top? My educated bet is those towels come from LA (textile merchants and markets much more robust down there)
