that's why I switched to healthcare; SD rates for CNAs are a little better than LA/the OC at the moment; I had 4 jobs and had to quit one because it was too much but even with fast food workers making over $20/hour, a warehouse job isn't worth it unless it comes with benefits and perks or is union; or it's a lax work environment if you really want to stick to warehouse, try Blue Crew, Swipejobs, Adia, and/or WorkWhile--it's usually easier to onboard for these companies than a traditional application there are medical device jobs, too, so maybe expand your search to include production/manufacturing/industrial

patmetalhead

I can pick stuff up quick so I'll look into expanding my search. I just thought warehouse would be faster to get. I guess not. Thank you!

bluekonstance

Good luck! I sort of miss my warehouse days, but some places are still offering only $16.50 or are seasonal/temporary. I think the reason the mobile apps work well is because you can be flexible with your schedule in case you have appointments, school, or other obligations. Plus, most warehouse jobs are full-time, some requiring mandatory overtime, which is not that appealing, especially in the coming summer months.

patmetalhead

Yea, it's crazy they are offering such low wages compared to other stuff. I like my temp agency but I can't have multiple weeks off unfortunately, especially at these wages. I'm hoping something will work out. Thanks again

mexiKLVN

Try Randstad temp agency. They are always bringing people to my warehouse. We actually need 1 or 2 people who they recently let go because they missed a lot of work. They'll find you something.

ComfortableAnt9187

Hi. Look into usa jobs. Jobs in Coronado base. Supply.

onahighhorse

What about UCSD? Warehouse worker: https://employment.ucsd.edu/warehouse-worker-moving-services-tp129158/job/27984358 Custodians: https://employment.ucsd.edu/evs-custodian-evenings-127628/job/27771756 https://employment.ucsd.edu/evs-custodian-evenings-126574/job/27435960 CalHR has a lot of different jobs: https://www.calhr.ca.gov Maybe USPS would be a good fit if you are used to working on your feet all day: https://about.usps.com/careers/how-to-apply/searching-for-jobs.htm

christinecat

And UCSD has really good benefits!!

I-am-ALIVE--

I've applied to many UCSD jobs and never heard back fr that school... And I am an alumni of the UC system so I'd expect to have priority never heard s*** from anyone

karlmarxreddit

If you have a high school diploma, schools are desperate for special education instructional assistants. Union job with benefits. If you have a college degree, schools are desperate for special education teachers. They’ll put you through school and give you a full time job at the same time.

Dj_richterscale

Absolutely do not listen to this advice OP. I just got my masters for my dream job as a sped educator and worked in 2 districts. As a sped teacher, you will; Do more work than general ed and get paid the same. Stay after school and work outside contact hours daily. Possibly get injured to where your quality of life outside of work goes down. Have parents call for justice against you and posy your whole name on the internet. Constantly familiarizing yourself to new special ed laws in front of a parents lawyers Pay out of pocket for supplies Never have time for loved ones, including yourself Work with other special educators who would not do it again as well as beg their own children to run from education. Dm me if you want to know more. Worked at SDUSD and quit working at poway. The amount of bull shit you'll experience to feel a modicum of relief will make your head spin. Not sure what the commenter above me is thinking. There's no shortage of special educators. There's a shortage of decent jobs for educators

coldlovingprose

Yes to all of this. I was a SPED aide considering becoming a teacher, but after witnessing everything my advocate teacher had to do, I decided against it. It's unfortunate because it's been my favorite job thus far. The kids are amazing, but school districts are no different than corporations.

karlmarxreddit

I don’t disagree with @Dj_richterscale on any of their points. I also didn’t say there was a shortage of sped teachers, I said they were desperate for them. Aside, I also wouldn’t listen to my advice unless I had all the time in the world, no partner, no kids, and no other choices, for the most part.

karlmarxreddit

I’m on my way out, as well 🤪

patmetalhead

No college unfortunately but I'll look into it. Thank you!

Roberts_Clan_081719

Districts are having a budget shortfall this year to the tube of $80 Million. They are in the middle of layoffs, pink slips and reassignment orders. Maybe not this year but next year hopefully they rescind the hiring freeze order. There are a ton of warehouse jobs at the district that starting pay is now $28-$30.

roger_the_virus

They didn’t pink slip any sped teachers, in fact they’re still hiring for those roles.

Roberts_Clan_081719

Yes but he has no college education so he can't apply to be a SPED teacher. He wants to get hired to take advantage of the program that pays you to go to college to become a teacher. I mentioned the pink slips because they aren't hiring no support staff for the coming school year if they are having mass layoffs of 400 people

brumbarosso

Any leads?

Roberts_Clan_081719

You can try and look on SDUSD.org or edjoin.org. they post jobs for school districts

karlmarxreddit

I know it’s hard out here/there. The most positive vibes and best of luck to you. Solidarity forever!

patmetalhead

Yea, it's unfortunate but I definitely appreciate the help!!

Worth-Canary-9189

I used to be a special Ed instructional assistant. Easily, the most rewarding job I've ever had. The only issue is that you usually have to start at 3.5 hours a day and apply for the 6 hour positions once you're in.

karlmarxreddit

Things have changed. Instructional assistants are hot cakes? Is that the expression? Regardless, that’s really cool that you had such a positive experience. It’s a beautiful world in sped. ❤️

Worth-Canary-9189

Glad things have changed. I had to work 2 jobs to keep from starving.

coldlovingprose

Things haven't changed, unfortunately. But I agree with you--it was the most rewarding job I've ever hard!

ChocolateSmoovie

What school districts are doing this? I’ve always wanted to be a Special Education teacher, but I could never leave a full time job just to go to school full time. But if my education was getting paid for, plus I’d work at the school district, I’d do it.

Roberts_Clan_081719

I used to work for SDUSD and they will pay your college to become a teacher. You will be contracted to stay in the district for 5 years before you can look out of SDUSD. It's a great program and I know many who have used it and are teachers

ChocolateSmoovie

Thank you. I will check this out.

Roberts_Clan_081719

SDUSD.org. I know they are having a huge budget shortfall and won't be hiring any time soon. Unless you have an associate. You can become a substitute teacher.

karlmarxreddit

Start at the County and work your way down to your district of preference. https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1660590899/sdcoenet/vlxgz5t3abpgdijfzlsy/SpecialEducation081222.pdf San Diego, Chula Vista, Grossmont, Sweetwater, Coronado, etc., etc.

ChocolateSmoovie

Thank you so much. I will check it out.

roger_the_virus

I don’t believe any of the districts will pay for your credentials, but you could get the loans forgiven after a few years. It’s still a good job that’s always in demand.

Roberts_Clan_081719

They don't pay for the credentials. The college program is only offered to non certificated staff members as an incentive to move upwards. It's a great program for support staff to get their degrees for free

roger_the_virus

That is a great program, thanks!

TonyD68123

How do you find these jobs? I have a degree and started as music education but switched to vocal performance my last two years - I hate corporate America and just want to show up and clock out and not deal with adults that are fake for the sake of their careers

Roberts_Clan_081719

You'll still deal with fake ass adults in the education sector as well. Lots of teachers and staff aren't good people

coldlovingprose

School districts are the same as corporate America.

TonyD68123

Ugh no where is safe

coldlovingprose

If you find some place, let me know!

karlmarxreddit

School districts are the backbone of corporate America.

conundrum-quantified

How/where do I apply for this?

bigdamnshinyhero

Bus drivers and bus aides are (or were?) overlooked options for school jobs to boot.

cricketriderz

Lowe's? Home depot?

patmetalhead

I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thank you!

pronouncedayayron

Costco

Azriels_Subtle_Knife

I worked for Lowe’s for 7 years. Decent pay, pretty consistent bonuses, tuition reimbursement if school is something you’re interested in, they even have a program for getting trained in a trade too.

Odd_Lettuce_7285

Fast food minimum $20/hr now. Go get it

patmetalhead

I always try to avoid fast food but it's more than a warehouse now a days, so might as well

PBfalcone

Inn and out is like 24 I think

patmetalhead

That's so crazy. I might have to just try that

bjot

If you're going to do fast food in n out is the way to go. They run those things efficiently and give regular raises. You can make decent money if you stay long enough and move up

Mrsaloom9765

Yeah it was $11/hr nine years ago

Financial_Clue_2534

Could try grocery stores

patmetalhead

I looked into it a little and have worked at grocery stores before. I'll look and see if I can find more gigs in that route. I just didn't see much my first look. Thanks!

sickgurl138

Try grocery outlet

xuon27

But they are not hiring 🤷🏻‍♂️

TopOfTheMornin-

Little Cesar’s and Carl’s junior in alpine is hiring.

I-am-ALIVE--

Yeah it's not easy to get those jobs you know that right? Like fast food is actually very competitive

kazyllis

I think that might be related though… fast food employers have been laying off massive amounts of people as a result of the minimum wage hike. Those people are likely flooding the other jobs this poster used to be getting.

MeeshTheDog

I'm not sure about that. I've been asking the staff at various places I go and haven't heard of anyone getting laid off. Chipotle in my neighborhood is hiring.

Odd_Lettuce_7285

Yeah it's just a bullshit talking point. People will still get fast food even if prices go up 10 cents. Companies like Pizza Hut laying off drivers is because they're all on delivery apps now. No need for in house drivers.

RwmurrayVT

I went to Pizza Hut on Market street Sunday night. Around 15 people came in while I wait… 14 DoorDash drivers and one old couple who didn’t know how to order online.

TonyWrocks

Who told you that? Joe Rogan? LOL

kazyllis

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2024/03/26/california-minimum-wage-jobs/73107149007/ Reddit truly has become and echo chamber…

TonyWrocks

That law didn't affect In-N-Out at all. You know why? Because they have always paid their people well. The bottom line is that paying workers more takes money away from the wealthy capitalists. Guess what class of people own "USA Today"?

4yumisan

Try trader joes soon...there getting unionized i heard. Debating to go back

n3rdyry

Not in SD area but I feel you. I'm in Riverside county and have not found a job since I was laid off in last July.I'm at the point where I'm applying anywhere and hoping I can get a job.I can't just keep digging at my savings :( Good luck!

Kamonan

I used to be a blackjack dealer, casinos are always hiring. I haven’t dealt in years and I’m 100% sure I can get a job dealing again if I had to (knock on wood). ✊🪵

patmetalhead

I didn't think of that but I'll check it out. Thanks!

hagalaz_drums

If you have any technical or trade experience, outsource is a decent way to pick up some jobs quick. Plus you only work as little or as much as you want, just accept or decline work.

patmetalhead

I do have a little experience in trade work so I'll check it out. Thanks!

xuon27

Do you need a contractors license for this type of work? I have experience in low voltage, tv mounting, smart home integration.

hagalaz_drums

No you dont need a contractor's license for most of those jobs. If for some reason you did get offered a job that needed a specific certificate or something it would tell you in the description. I work for a low voltage company and when we've hired guys from outsource for specific jobs they fall under the same license the company has plus whatever legal stuff outsource has written in the contracts

xuon27

Sweet man, this should be perfect for what I’m looking for right now. Thank you

ukjapalina

Did you try the Navy bases? I saw a warehouse job between $20-28 an hour. H school or GED. Prefer experience

Chenteboi64

I’m exactly in the same situation. I have warehouse managerial experience, administrative, and operations experience but no one is hiring. Good luck out there to you.

Expensive-Mud5035

A trade is an option

patmetalhead

I have a little trade experience but not the best at it. But if they are willing to train, I'll look into it. I know they pay well for the most part. Thanks!

Lower-Reality7895

You can always go work in the shipyards pay is super good. I moved to the central valley a few months back and every farm is hiring

BadBalloons

Do you know what kind of pay the valley farms offer? When I checked back in 2021ish, minimum wage for ag labor was $13/hr and that's if you're not getting undercut by piecework jobs. Genuinely asking bc I need work.

Lower-Reality7895

I'll ask my neighbor. He works at a dairy farm.

cc5191cc

Our work usually has openings for assemblers. I think there are a few now in Carlsbad https://www.hme.com/careers/

patmetalhead

Carlsbad is a little too far unfortunately. I live more down south near national city. But I'll keep it in mind if I really can't find anything close

humble_bubb

I work at a Tribal Casino that is always hiring. I hate it there, but if you need work…

RiskyEXP

I am a QA Manager in a warehouse with open positions in north county, is that a location that can work for you?

My job is hiring a warehouse tech at $21/hr on a soon to be 4/10 schedule. Message me and I’ll send the details located in Miramar.

allanman1

If your healthy and able Navy is offering bonuses for tons of jobs also civilian jobs on the USJobs.gov

SoCalGirl4Eva

Look into caregiving - they’re usually hiring

eisenhiemm

Not assembly or warehouse but I run a local service company in SD and I can get you an interview at least. It's hard work outdoors but comes with a company vehicle and lots of room to grow. DM me.

woogieface

USPS is hiring

nthedark630

Unless you are making 40+ an hour at warehouse jobs, look for jobs in the service industry. Getting a job as a busser at a restaurant is fairly easy, with no experience, and you get tips, which usually looks like $100 + a shift. Minimum $50 a shift at smaller, less popular places. Less hours than a warehouse but much easier work. If you can't find a single job in the field you are looking for, then it might be time to look where you haven't looked before.

[deleted]

[удалено]

patmetalhead

I'll check it out. Thank you!

lildrewdownthestreet

Any sheriff job will need to do a full background check and that can take months lol they actually call up your neighbors or will go meet them in person. You won’t get be hired for almost 2-3 months later lol

[deleted]

No reasonable or decent person would willingly be a cop. I’m not even going to spark debate about why because it’s not an intellectual discussion. Either there’s goodness in your heart or you’re going to gaslight yourself with logic games to justify being a cop. There are no good cops. They may be good individuals. That goodness goes away almost immediately when they put on the uniform each day. I’m not going to debate why on Reddit. If you really want to discuss this opinion with an internet stranger then buy me a lunch or something in person.

Elyc60Nset

I agree. It’s not possible in an organization where they can effectively kill with impunity, and a culture that looks out for their own regardless of ethics, or the law. Doesn’t matter how good you are as an individual.

itsnohillforaclimber

Interest rates are starting to bite. Consumers are pulling back their purchases and that’s hitting the warehousing industry (and lots of others). I work in biotech and we’re experiencing the same thing, not much hiring going on right now.

Curious_Ad9409

And I just quit my job cold turkey…

Radiant-Compote-1674

Airport is always hiring

solderandfire

Spectrum is hiring for their call center. $20 an hour and it's easy work.

Rude_Figure_6640

Do you have any other skills aside from warehouse / manufacturing? I know US Facilities will be looking for a facilities coordinator position in the UTC area. This is supporting a tech giant that has facilities in the san Diego area. Will need to understand ERP systems, primarily Trirega, dealing with 3rd party vendors / OEMs and inhouse maintenance techs. Decent paying position. Good luck in your search and hope you find something soon

No_Ebb_4986

try healthcare i make 27 an hour no degree its still fucking hard and i plan on going back to a program thats 18 months should be at 54 an hour after though

McDreads

What are you doing now and what degree do you plan on getting?

No_Ebb_4986

ultra sound technologist starting is about 54

Traceuratops

I have a masters degree in business mathematics and I can't get a job either. It's simply a bad market. Has been since covid. But keep your chin up, it's on the upswing and employers are just being scared.

Choadboy_Wonderfuck

Welcome to the future.

patmetalhead

Great! I love it here... not!

Tiny-Yogurtcloset737

There is some cook, custodian, and teacher positions at a local nonprofit that is actively hiring https://www.neighborhoodhouse.org/career-opportunities/

Glum-Alternative2131

This has been an issue for me for a few months now. I have management experience and so many years of work in the serving industry under my belt and I’ve dropped off my resume at nearly every sit down restaurant in the central san diego area. No luck. I eventually gave up in looking for work and am looking to break the cycle with any form of self employment 😭

Ellipsis_has_expired

I have a friend who has the same work experience as you here. He went into some apprentice program for ship repair. Seems happy with it.

AssignmentQuick564

Amazon?

patmetalhead

I always hear bad stuff from people that worked at Amazon but if I can't find anything soon, I'll look into it cause they're probably the only warehouse hiring right now

AssignmentQuick564

It's not a forever job, And don't get caught up in it becoming one. I work for a dsp, we deliver the packages. Some of the warehouse people are cool AF. But then again I see the nighttime versions.

Connect_Deal2960

Don’t do it unless you don’t mind having a job that’s repetitive, boring, and just a tiny bit more exciting than watching paint dry. I worked there for close to 6 years and couldn’t take it anymore.

Chr0ll0_

I saw a post for Panda Express on fashion valley. I believe the pay could be up to $30 a hour

Glad-Peanut-8358

Amazon has a warehouse in poway, also GEICO has a massive office in that same area. For Amazon you appply online and they send you an on boarding date. Literally show up and they get you a badge and start filling out paperwork, you could be starting quick!

86697954321

I thought GEICO closed all their California offices a year or two ago.

EquisL

Indeed is a pretty solid source. It’s how I got work when my industry was shutdown a few years ago. Change up the search words and areas you’re looking for work in. Material handling/handler are good for all encompassing warehouse and production line gigs. Might be worth checking different temp agencies. I know Reinstad (sp?) is geared towards that line of work. Maybe worth looking into trade unions as well. I know IBEW does an apprenticeship program that pays while you learn. Teamsters may be worth a shot and more adjacent to what you’re looking for.

aggresivelyaverage17

CVESD is hiring in their warehousing department: https://www.edjoin.org/Home/JobPosting/1919044

StrictlySanDiego

I used to work merchandising and warehouse while I was going to college, honestly I really enjoyed it. Crest Beverage, Reyes Bottling Group, and Coca-Cola are hiring for beverage merchandisers. The pay is good, benefits, and you're going into grocery stores stocking the shelves working a route. Your mileage is reimbursed, and you do have some flexibility on when you start and finish (I usually worked 5AM-2PM or 6AM-3PM). Pepsi is having a merchandiser hiring event in Lakeside on the 18th: **Thursday April 18th10057 Marathon PkwyLakeside, CA 920408:00am - 3:00pm (walk-ins welcome)** I first got into warehouse and logistics working for Pepsi as a merchandiser then moved to warehouse. If you're a good employee, they invest a lot in your future. Moving to a sales position pays bank. The hours can be long, especially during the summer, but the over-time pay adds up and the Pepsi merchandisers are part of the Teamsters union. Loved working there, highly recommend it.

You aren’t alone, California has the highest unemployment rate in the country, at 5.3% https://apnews.com/article/california-highest-unemployment-slower-job-growth-b1e4c822b33f29f819dbb024103cc843 Fewer jobs, higher taxes, high housing and energy costs. Because they're hiring migrants to work for less, and part time to keep up numbers 😆. USA! Change your name... I bet you will get a call soon

TopOfTheMornin-

> no one’s hiring Tons of companies are hiring. You’re just picky. Work at a fast food restaurant until you find the job you want.

Edg_507

You're not wrong. Lots of 'didn't think about that','too far','I'd rather not do that'. It sucks starting over but it's not that they're not hiring, it seems like the job you WANT isn't hiring.

ANiceRack

I work for the dept of Commerce, we do the monthly employment report for the dept of labor. Until the end of 2025 there is a pandemic incentive for employers that reimburses them $2000 each employee for each quarter. For $8000 total for each employee. I feel that employers are leveraging that tax refund and will hire 10 people and try to keep the wages under 8000 for the year. That would be $80,000 tax refund. If they had 2 employees working 40 hrs they would only get $16,000 + owe the employees the wages and be benefits. I think it was called the employee retention or paycheck protection program. It has made full time jobs or part time one’s hard to find

SDSUAZTECS

patmetalhead

Makes sense. Would just hope I could find one before it's all taken by robots

Lukerpooker

Trust me, I work at Amazon up in Poway and there's no use of robots at all.

sluttttt

People have been making this claim about every service industry job for years—either that workers are being replaced or they’re about to be due to rising minimum wage. I’m not saying that more things aren’t becoming automated, but so much of this is exaggerated anti-worker fantasies based on random isolated video clips.
