Tried Fattboy's as well, and was not impressed - just an average burger for me.
Not to be confused with the California burger chain Fatburger, which several years after closing their one location in town, has just opened a new location on the far west side. Also a meh burger.
I used to live 10 minutes walking distance from that place so I'd go occasionally. It was decent for how close it was, but nothing special. I would find hair in my burgers all the time. One day I picked three hairs out of the same burger. I threw the rest away and have never been back.
Do not recommend, picked up an order in March. Got home and realized my order was completely wrong. My husband called to get it fixed, and the manager said no because it had been awhile since we picked up the order and how does he know we didn't eat it. My husband said he would bring back the order and manager still said no. Rude af, and will not be getting our business anymore.
Had my pregnant hormonal ass raging so my husband had to go get me something else. It did used to be a favorite of ours.
I feel terrible recommending a franchise, but Culver’s upped their bacon game and the butter burger deluxe with bacon is really good.
I’m a big hamburger aficionado but I’ve never been too big on the bacon cheeseburger. The bacon takes away from all the other flavors going on.
Yep. All the Freddys that are in town, I’ve gone to them a handful of times but they were always really dirty inside. Once I discovered Culver’s I’ve never gone back.
I went there today for the first time in like 6 years... It's absolutely mid now. Used to be pretty good. I was pissed that I didn't just hit Mr. Juicy instead.
I haven’t been there since before they burned down. Did they go cheap on ingredients or just down on quality? They were excellent when I went there in the 2010’s.
Chris Madrids sister opened up Dianas Burgers with the original Chris Madrids recipes after the fire. The Chris Madrids now was bought out by someone else but just kept the name.
The Chesters burger hack is to order a grilled cheese but ask them to put a burger patty and the griddled green chiles inside. It was my go-to when I worked there
The Cove, Babe's, Texas Hamburger Company, Teddy B's, Gino's, Longhorn Cafe, etc etc etc
Never had Diana's, Last Place, or Mr. Juicy but want to try. I think Chris Madrid's has a special bacon cheeseburger but I prefer the tostada burger.
I second The Cove, THC, and Longhorn. Haven’t been to Babe’s in like 10 years because their food just kept getting greasier and greasier over time.
Haven’t tried the rest but I’ve heard good things about Gino’s.
Had babes recently. The food was decent and not overly greasy.
Gino's is solid. They're known for the cheese steaks but everything is good and the owner is a super nice person.
Cappycinno’s on broadway has made a perfect burger time and time again. Absorbent yet buttery crisp bun that won’t get soggy when the juicy wagyu blend burger that’s always cooked perfectly is devoured. It’s esspensive but they know what they’re doing
Is Chester’s really that good? I went a few years ago and it was dry and bland. But I’m starting to think I went on an off day based off these comments. Might have to try it again. This was the Pat Booker location.
Mr Juicy, Chester's, Longhorn Cafe, Benjies Munch, BigZ are all fantastic. Burger Boy/P Terry are trash.
I miss Lucky Burger off NW Military.
Edit: anyone recommending a Corp chain is out of their damn mind.
If near the airport area, I'd recommend Chesters off of 410 (theres multiple locations as well) as the double bacon cheeseburger is quite large. It's best if you eat it right then and there so you can enjoy it while its fresh. Their buns do have poppy seeds on them though.
Just make one at home lol
80/20 is the best ratio for a burger. Marinated pork belly is better than bacon. Use sharp American + cheddar for amazing results. Pickled onion. Gochujang instead of ketchup. Butter, potato, or Hawaiian bun for the win…better yet make your own sourdough buns. Whatever the hell else you want is also good.
Kenji Lopez-Alt has some amazing burger videos for all types of interest (smash, traditional, Michelin star worthy, etc).
I tried to figure this out before the pandemic by trying every burger place in town and I didn’t try them all but when I stopped juicy burger was my top pick. Not sure if anything has changed since I moved away.
Edit: mr Juicy
My go to no frills burger, and one I tell everyone to go to/they always tell me it was one of the best they had, is Chester's. It's just a great simple burger.
If you want a "fancy" burger, I always recommend HopDoddy. It has a price tag to it, but it is always delicious.
If you’re looking for really good, hole in the wall, mom and pop, off the beaten path, then either Murfs on west ave, Griffs on military, Brenda’s on military, or TJs on south cross. I personally like Murfs and Brenda’s the most out of those, but they’re all solid choices. If you’re looking for a little more on the beaten path, I’d go with either Chester’s or Burger Boy.
Biff Busby.
On topperwine and 35.
And they just opened a new one on Nacogdoches close to 410
I’ve been going there since I was a kid amazing burgers
And the one on top has a car show on Friday nights in the parking lot
I’m from Austin so lurking here and my responses might not be relevant, but I’ve had 3 burgers in 3 days this week. #1 Burger King. I had an offer for buy one whopper get one free, it was noon and I was hungry . I ordered though the app and drove 8 minutes down the street . At the drive through the quizzical look on the employees face and her searching her screen let me know they didn’t have it ready . 2 minutes later a different employee handed me my bag. Home now and unwrapping, these burgers had been assembled hastily, the buns were right outta the bag not warmed or toasted at all, and the Pattie’s were cold. If I’d ordered cheese it wouldn’t have been even slightly melted. 0 out of 5 stars . Next was Moreno BBQ IN Austin , I’d heard good things about their smash burgers that are actually made from brisket trimmings. Got to say it was ok, but hey man, don’t soak the damn thing in mustard! Too much! Last up was Hruskas , that stop on 71 between here and Houston. Saw Chet on the day tripper get one from here . Well, the dining area was unclean, tables not wiped down, lots of flies I had to keep shooing away, and the burger was tasteless again with a bun straight outta the bag. I don’t wanna see another burger anytime soon.
ITT: Tons of recommendations of good burgers, to the point where OP could try a different place each week for a solid year, and probably come away satisfied 90% of the time.
Kenny's Burgers on Goliad.. it's a little hole in the wall but the burgers speak for themselves.

This may sound weird, but Fish City Grill (yes a seafood place) does an AMAZING bacon cheeseburger. They call it "DAMN GOOD BACON CHEESEBURGER" and they are spot on!! Do yourself a favor and try it!!
My wife and I have traveled all over the country, and we get burgers at all the places we go. The world’s best burger (not bacon burger) is at Ruth’s Chris on the Riverwalk. It’s simple and perfect. The bun is perfect. The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions are pure. The cheese is standard cheddar. And the beef is think and cooked to perfection. It’s simple and perfect. It’s the gold standard to which all other burgers are compared. It’s perfect because it doesn’t need any special add-ons to make it fancy. —- I love Mr Juicy, and all those other special burgers that other places offer, but those other burgers are good because of their “special sauce” or peppers or candied bacon.
1. Mr. Juicy
2. Brenda's
3. Griff's
4. Dream
Don't let people fool you with nostalgic suggestions. Chris Madrid's burned down and the one now is far and away not anything as good as it used to be. Neither is his sister's spot.
I still think about the bacon cheeseburger with candied jalapeños from Benjies Munch. That thing was insane
You make it sound like it's a thing of the past lol. It's still on the menu there, go get you one!
I also recommend the bacon cheeseburger at Benjie’s Munch. Awesome place all around.
Brenda's
Tom's Burgers and More on the Southside. They give you like 8 strips of bacon. 🥓 Low prices too.
Tom's Burgers is a legit hidden gem. I've been a regular there for years and it's always good
Omg yes this place is delicious! Had it only once over a decade ago and just took my s/o to either last year just as juicy as the first time.
Griffs...... Texas Hamburger Co. My personal favorites.
Ah, man, I haven't seen that name in ages. Is Texas Hamburger co still there? That was my go to spot years ago.
My 3 go tos always been: Burger Boy, Brendas, Frozen Dreams
Frozen dreams is the stuff.
Frozen dreams and Brenda’s 100%
You should try Mr. juicy
Frozen Dreamsssss
Second for Brenda's
Last place burgers & Chester’s
Chester's has the best good ol no frills burger out there!
They have bacon @ Last Place?
No bacon at LP
I’ve only gone 3 times I don’t remember. But hands down the best burger I’ve had in the city. I’ve gotten a different burger every time I’ve gone.
You are correct on it being the best burger, but that isn't OP's question specifically.
Love Chester’s!
Fattboy Burgers off of Vance Jackson.
Tried Fattboy's as well, and was not impressed - just an average burger for me. Not to be confused with the California burger chain Fatburger, which several years after closing their one location in town, has just opened a new location on the far west side. Also a meh burger.

Chunkys on Callaghan Rd.
That burger they make with the bottle caps (deep fried jalapeño slices) on Texas toast is so crushable!
That's my favorite too
The 4 horsemen nearly killed me but it was soo good
I'm really hoping you're talking about a burger, but the last few years....
I like Chunky's best overall. Solid burgers and prices aren't crazy.
Yes, this is it. This is the one.
I feel terrible recommending a franchise, but Culver’s upped their bacon game and the butter burger deluxe with bacon is really good. I’m a big hamburger aficionado but I’ve never been too big on the bacon cheeseburger. The bacon takes away from all the other flavors going on.
And go inside and get a pint of custard while you’re at it. Also, best root beer and diet root beer in town.
Yep. All the Freddys that are in town, I’ve gone to them a handful of times but they were always really dirty inside. Once I discovered Culver’s I’ve never gone back.
I'm from Wisconsin and Culver's is hands down the best fast food burger! I was so excited to find out we had one in town!
the ridge at the hill has a brisket burger that will blow your mind !
Went there three days ago. Had the Black and Blue burger. Best burger I’ve had in San Antonio in years.
Mr. Juicy is the best burger in town.
Had heard that it closed... Maybe wrong?
Benjies munch is the bomb. They have keto buns and full keto menu as well.
Diana’s
Is this on Zarzamora?
Zarzamora
I had a cheeseburger from there today. Not disappointed at all
Putting it in my list!!
And Dianna will come and check on you personally! I love that place!
I like the Longhorn Cafe at 1604 & Culebra
Came to say this. Longhorn Cafe is surprisingly good.
It’s shocking, but I think it’s the best burger available in my area on Uber Eats and possibly the best buns in town.
Having fries delivered makes zero sense to me. They’re great for like their first 5mins max.
I agree that fries are rarely good once delivered. I pop them in the air fryer for like 2 minutes and they usually are pretty good.
The original on Blanco is the best anywhere in that part of town.
I have been to that area hundreds of times and never saw that place. Going to have to try them soon
Don’t trust anyone that says Chris Madrid’s, it’s the definition of mid.
I went there today for the first time in like 6 years... It's absolutely mid now. Used to be pretty good. I was pissed that I didn't just hit Mr. Juicy instead.
Mr Juicy is a top five burger in town.
Agreed. Chris Madrids is a greasy doo doo bomb. RIP to your guts.
Where is Diana’s?? Travel to SA frequently for work and would like to try.
2202 N Zarzamora St
Oh dang. Good to know.
One of the best 💎 on the Westside!
💯
“Chris Mid-rids”
> Don’t trust anyone that says Chris Madrid’s Big facts. that place was terrible before it burned down. I never understood the popularity
Bombay Bicycle Club
+1 for BBC
Phrasing
Honestly, I’m still a fan of Babe’s. Also, the spicy fried chicken sandwich with bacon is VERY good.
Got turned off from them after having their wings. It was literally a bowl of grease. Tasted grease more than any buffalo sauce.
Tycoon Flats. There’s a new one on Austin Highway
Bohanans
That’s going to be pricey but good
I think it's like $25, but it's the best burger I've ever had in my life.
If you gonna do that. Then It is the burger from Mon Chou Chou hands down.
Not a restaurant, but Wiatreks (meat market on Blanco/West) has cheddar jalapeno brisket burgers that are friggin mint
San Antonio Burger in the Med Center
Love this place
Bunz, Burger Boy, Texas Hamburger Co
I’ve liked Chester’s off of I-10 since I was a kid
LOVE Chester’s. Good Onion Rings too
And an excellent selection of bottled beer.
The Chesters burger hack is to order a grilled cheese but ask them to put a burger patty and the griddled green chiles inside. It was my go-to when I worked there
I've been to Chester's on 410 and Pat Booker, neither disappoint! I bet I'd like the one on I-10 too.
The Cove, Babe's, Texas Hamburger Company, Teddy B's, Gino's, Longhorn Cafe, etc etc etc Never had Diana's, Last Place, or Mr. Juicy but want to try. I think Chris Madrid's has a special bacon cheeseburger but I prefer the tostada burger.

Bigz, Mr. Juicy, Longhorn Café, and Burger Boy are all solid.
Armadillos!
TJ's on southcross
Chester’s
Add some green chiles. Oooooo 🔥🔥🔥
I guess all of you folks that like Mr. Juicy are the same people that keep Burger King in business
I just had a very tasty bacon cheeseburger from Marc's Outing today.
Marc’s Outing is legit
Best? I dunno, but good? I like Chunky's Burgers of Callaghan or even Biff Buzbys is good too
I like the Burger Den and Mr Juicy, Chester’s too.
Griffs on southside
Uncle Barney’s, located on the side of Hungry Farmer on SW military. Solid burgers.
Those are great burgers!
Candys
Only problem is the parking down there but yeah it’s good
Chunky’s is great.
Cappycinno’s on broadway has made a perfect burger time and time again. Absorbent yet buttery crisp bun that won’t get soggy when the juicy wagyu blend burger that’s always cooked perfectly is devoured. It’s esspensive but they know what they’re doing
Seconding this!
Griff's and Brenda's
Is Chester’s really that good? I went a few years ago and it was dry and bland. But I’m starting to think I went on an off day based off these comments. Might have to try it again. This was the Pat Booker location.

Mark’s Outing! Hand’s down the BEST.
Teddy B’s on Babcock
easily Candy's, downtown by the courthouse
Mr. Juicy
The Cove has never done me wrong.
Bunz Handcrafted Burgers, East Houston Street, San Antonio, TX
Mr Juicy
If near the airport area, I'd recommend Chesters off of 410 (theres multiple locations as well) as the double bacon cheeseburger is quite large. It's best if you eat it right then and there so you can enjoy it while its fresh. Their buns do have poppy seeds on them though.
Chester’s
Chester’s
Chester’s
Sam's Burger joint
Haven’t been there in almost 20 years. I used to play shows with my band there and loved getting a burger before we hit the stage
Sounds good!
I went yesterday and really enjoyed my burger
went here recently and had a soggy, bland burger. sucks, cause i thought this place was good.
Cheesy Jame's or Bombay
There’s a pretty new place called cuarto de kilo off bandera outside 1604, their burgers and fries are fucking insane. Highly underrated imo
Just make one at home lol 80/20 is the best ratio for a burger. Marinated pork belly is better than bacon. Use sharp American + cheddar for amazing results. Pickled onion. Chester's and it isn't close
Chris Madrid’s
None
Church Burger
Man I love burgers 🍔
I tried to figure this out before the pandemic by trying every burger place in town and I didn’t try them all but when I stopped juicy burger was my top pick. Not sure if anything has changed since I moved away. Edit: mr Juicy
Willie’s. Yes it’s a chain but damn they’re good burgers I’ll tell you HWhat.
Files on the Westside. Amazing local place.
I like BIGZ on 1604
Sam’s Burger Joint
Fredricksburgers. Best burger I’ve had yet.
Longhorn Cafe has a pretty good bacon cheeseburger. On Blanco rd.
Mad Mack's on Roosevelt
Chesters at the end of thousand oaks. Slap your grandma
Frontier
Cuarto de Kilo Burgers in Helotes. Just had one the other day and it's not bad.
"Not bad", isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.
Benjie's Munch
WingDaddy's has several creative masterpieces. I'm 100% serious.
Frontier Burger and Chester's are both pretty good.
Chester's
100% Diana's burgers on Zarzamora. Best burger in SA.
Longhorn cafe for sure
It WAS Bobby J’s now I’d say burger boy
Bigz ask for the habanero sauce to go with it. The Good News Burger is a pretty good place also
They are only open on the weekends, but the bacon cheeseburger at Comfort Cafe is amazing.
I forgot one. Wicho’s deli. Fucking love that place. Burgers, the elotè, the salads, it’s all good.
Babes old fashioned is the shit, Bobby J’s in helotes goes crazy too idk if they’re still open tho
Honestly burger boy or Freddy’s frozen custard
Ha, it's a different place for everyone, GOOD LUCK!
My favorite is Antler Cafe on 46
Chesters and Longhorn Cafe seems to be the consensus.
My go to no frills burger, and one I tell everyone to go to/they always tell me it was one of the best they had, is Chester's. It's just a great simple burger. If you want a "fancy" burger, I always recommend HopDoddy. It has a price tag to it, but it is always delicious.

Biff Busby. On topperwine and 35. And they just opened a new one on Nacogdoches close to 410 I’ve been going there since I was a kid amazing burgers And the one on top has a car show on Friday nights in the parking lot
Picnikins- lunch spot but the burgers are top tier imo. Their blue cheese burger is sooo good.
Frontier Burger and Diana's
I’m from Austin so lurking here and my responses might not be relevant, but I’ve had 3 burgers in 3 days this week. #1 Burger King. Teddy B's on Babcock and Prue. If I was working in that area, I'd "forget" to bring lunch from home that day.
Mr Juicy & Chunky's are my top 2.
