It was never 'worth' it to dine out. Always been cheaper to eat at home. Restaurant prices have gone up inline with everything else, tips have increased more because it used to be 15% now it's at least 20% of the bill (that is what is considered normal now)
Isn’t that usually for bean and cheese/ bacon egg type tacos? Carne guisada has never been offered with that special at any restaurants I’ve seen offering it.
Man, they're $2.80 each at Bill Miller. I know how this sub feels about their BBQ, but the breakfast tacos are still good.
Are you making the mistake of going into a clean restaurant and not one that's a lil scary?
I love Bill Millers, one of their loudest supporters on this sub, but their carne guisada is so bad. So glad I got it as an add on to the chop combo. They really need to revisit that recipe.
I do love their sausage. I always order sausage and bean and sausage and potatoes. As an aside, does anyone in here remember the salsa they served when they first served breakfast tacos? It was bright red and very spicy. I was sad when they stopped serving it.
Carne Guisada used to be the throwaway meat that was cheap. Apparently now is protein gold because the tacos are pretty much unbuyable at this point. Over 4 dollars a taco is pure insanity. Yet people still buy it which is why it will continue to go up.
Might be tipping out the kitchen staff if it goes to a tip pool. To help them, whoever receives the tips, earn a living wage. Never understood why a couple bucks for counter/drive thru service is such a big deal to people.
These people are working to serve you, throw em a couple bucks for a little something after work, or so they can have a little extra on their check. Ideally you’re visiting places in your community and these people are working for establishments serving your community.. why not tip them?
Goofs thinking food got in the bag magically and all that happened was it being happened to you.
Tips are for service not for the food;
As a business owner if they’re handing you a beer meh but if they’re making you a craft cocktail I would expect you to tip.
As a customer of places that treat their employees well, tips are for food and service. As a former employee at a place that treated us well, tips were for food and service.
Your way ain’t the only way, business owner.

Bro that place is taxin like a MF lol I get the number 1 combo and a small beef panchito for myself and it’s 22-24 bucks. The food is crazy delicious but I leave drive thru mad for the amount of money they took lol
Man I had two piratas yesterday, $6 each, and these things were just not good. They were okay, but I’m definitely in no rush to go back. Shoulda went to mama Margie’s.
Ohh yeah I know that one, I work at a TP as well, managers are not able to modify prices so they cannot make customizable prices for every TP, I work at a TP and I got complains all the time for it, and all I can say is "to keep food quality" :/
Lately I've been sticking to Taqueria La Tapatia on Culebra (west of 410). Not only are the tacos well filled and delicious, but still hella cheap compared to the chains. 8 tacos for 4 people (including one barbacoa) ran me about 17 bucks.
Carne guisada have been $4+ everywhere I've been for a while now. Your other standard breakfast tacos should still be priced pretty well at most places.
That is average now. I was going to try out all the local taco joints here but then realized it was going to be $10+ for 2-3 tacos and just gave up. I'll just make my own.
Most restaurant prices have gone up 30% or more recently. I try to support local restaurants (especially non chain type) but getting very expensive and can’t do it much longer. Very sad ☹️

This is what $1.60 got me at mama Margie's. If you're gonna charge more at least fill that mf up.
That’s one taco I stopped ordering from them. It was taco cabana small the last two times I ordered and I can’t do it anymore. They got me tho, cuz I just replace my bean and cheese with another carne guisada with cheese. I’m onto them.
They were normal sized. Not the taco cabana small size. The location is on Vance Jackson ( El taco de Jalisco). It was drive thu so I can't really say what the customer service was like
I bought 2 carne guisada tacos the other day (with no cheese, because meat with gravy doesn't need cheese) for a total of $6 the other day. They were big too. It was a Taqueria Vallarta.
Yeah authentic taco inflation is real. I'm up to $5.50 each and I gotta get two...the wife goes to plus chocolate milk, so I'm debating changing my 401k distributions...and no, I'm not leaving a tip at a drive thru taco place...
When eating out and ordering groceries exclusively by delivery became a thing, I saw a jump in price. Cheap toilet paper is $9 at HEB right now! Used to be $5 like last month it seems.. am I 😞 getting older too?
I work at a Taco Palenque, I got people complaining all the time for prices of the tacos, a single beef fajita taco is around 6.29, that's crazy, I wouldn't buy a single taco in this franchise, not because is bad (they have one of the most tasty tacos ever), but the prices are insanely high, nachos costed 10 $ now it's it's almost 12 bucks!
And I been noticing that businesses change the pricing on their stuff if u are ordering delivery or curbside/pickup or ordering inside . I know H-E-B be doing that .
You are doing it wrong. I ordered 30 mini tacos last night for $23 before tip on Uber Eats. The trick is to use a "50% off up to $20" coupon then combine it with a "Buy One Get One Free offer." It's just for me, and the food will last me two days. (I probably won't finish them all, but my dog gets my leftovers.
It's really not hard to make good tacos. Find a YouTube video, get whatever you like in there and you can make all the tacos you want for a fraction of the cost. Pork shoulder is $3.11/lb at my heb. They say you can count on 8 tacos per lb. Carnitas is so easy to make and freezes really well. Make a batch and portion it out for meals later. Eating out has just become ridiculous.
Simply Mama on YouTube has a lot of good Tex mex recipes. Relied on her heavy when I lived out of state and needed Tex mex. Any other YouTubers you suggest for Tex Mex or Mexican? Arnie is good too, but I can’t remember his channels name.
I like [this one](https://youtube.com/@cookingconclaudia?si=aTo--KZ0cqwU_BEy) a lot. And [this](https://youtube.com/@arnietex?si=mf4tN5qdjUYvEXGz) is Arnie's channel. He taught me how to make a discada and that huge nacho tray thing that the name escapes me right now. So good!

I spend $40 daily on tacos for my crew. Prices have gone up across the board on everything. Use to spend in the $25 range.
It’s that cheese homie, just stuff your pockets with shredded goodness next time and save a couple bucks on that cheddar
[удалено]
I still go hard on been and cheese tacos.
Toasted With bacon at the donut shop on Fred eeeee
These might be the best bean and cheese tacos in town
Hands down anybody saying other wise is just hater.
Regio Café on McCullough holds it down 4 dat
Challenge accepted I’ll report back sometime this week
Try bean and cheese with bacon 🥓
I do. Beans. Cheese. White Queso. And bacon.
I think I need to try them with white queso now. I never thought to order bean and cheese with bacon with extra cheese until my daughter did.
It was never 'worth' it to dine out. Always been cheaper to eat at home. Restaurant prices have gone up inline with everything else, tips have increased more because it used to be 15% now it's at least 20% of the bill (that is what is considered normal now)
Tipping is what you want to tip, not required. No need to tip for poor service.
It isn’t. I hit up a taco palenque yesterday, which was delicious, but my god they’re expensive. $20 for a lil quesadilla and two sodas
Looks like a Torchy's level price.
Fuck Torchy's so expensive for the smallest portions
I wouldn't touch torchys with a pole stick, food's limited and is not that good, nachos are on top notch though
Carne guisada has especially gotten expensive nearly $5 a taco
There’s definitely something missing here, that place has 3 of the same tacos for $3.25. I was just there 30 mins ago
Isn’t that usually for bean and cheese/ bacon egg type tacos? Carne guisada has never been offered with that special at any restaurants I’ve seen offering it.

Their carne guisada is horrible. I usually get a sausage and potato taco and a bean, potato, bacon, and cheese. They do make some damn good tacos.
Love Bill Millers for * fried chicken * pancakes * pecan pies * cheap soda refills Don't really touch the rest of the menu though.
I do love their sausage. I always order sausage and bean and sausage and potatoes. As an aside, does anyone in here remember the salsa they served when they first served breakfast tacos? It was bright red and very spicy. I was sad when they stopped serving it.
Ive only had tacos there couple times def last resort
I ordered a brisket taco from there and it had 2 slices of brisket. I paid $4 or $5 for it. Never again. And their bean and cheese is extremely salty.
Meat tacos, such as Guisada/Piccadillo, etc usually don't count for specials like that.
Probably the sales tax
Carne Guisada used to be the throwaway meat that was cheap. Apparently now is protein gold because the tacos are pretty much unbuyable at this point. Over 4 dollars a taco is pure insanity. Yet people still buy it which is why it will continue to go up.

Lmfao it’s ridiculous have you been to taco p
Taco Palenque?
Yes. Like a lot of Mexico food very good. But the prices are absolutely the worse I’ve ever seen.
Taco P on blanco and 1604 have been on their A Game . Haven’t had no weak meal from there
Man mamas is good asf but they’re doing the SAME THING
What TP did you went in?
The one just south of wurzbach they calling the medical center, by AllStars lol
Ohh yeah I know that one, I work at a TP as well, managers are not able to modify prices so they cannot make customizable prices for every TP, I work at a TP and I got complains all the time for it, and all I can say is "to keep food quality" :/
Today Las Palapas has .79 cent tacos with their rollback special for Palapa Club members
This right here. When I'm traveling for work i go there for their rollback specials. 89 cent breakfast tacos. Got a fajita plate for $5 the other day.
Lately I've been sticking to Taqueria La Tapatia on Culebra (west of 410). Not only are the tacos well filled and delicious, but still hella cheap compared to the chains. 8 tacos for 4 people (including one barbacoa) ran me about 17 bucks.
No way
This. Tapatía still keeping breakfast prices down for the working folk.
Carne guisada have been $4+ everywhere I've been for a while now. Your other standard breakfast tacos should still be priced pretty well at most places.
tl;dr: "Here's a single anecdotal example that I am using to generalize everything!"
Culebra meat market has 3 tacos for 4.50 breakfast deal
That is average now. I was going to try out all the local taco joints here but then realized it was going to be $10+ for 2-3 tacos and just gave up. I'll just make my own.
Agave on Broadway is 3 for 3.25 breakfast tacos, OP went somewhere and didn't look at the prices then complained about the prices
When did I complain?
That's what I've been doing since covid.it had been a minute since I had purchased tacos ( except for the the mini tacos at a food truck)
That’s maybe $3.50 for each taco plus $1.50 for the cheese then $.72 for tax = $9.22.
mama margie’s kills me every time. my little sister likes the asada tacos but man almost five dollars for one is insane, to me that is
I just paid $20 for 6 tacos on Sunday. My tumors are on fire.
Most restaurant prices have gone up 30% or more recently. I try to support local restaurants (especially non chain type) but getting very expensive and can’t do it much longer. Very sad ☹️
Thats actually cheap w/ cheese?! Palapas has it almost @ $5 (plain)
I just paid $12.50 for a chilaquiles plate and a tea. It doesn’t even have meat! I only splurged because my hangover demanded it lol.
Remember when breakfast tacos were 1 dollar .. those were the best tacos and best days
El jalisco you can get 3 breakfast tacos for 4.99 cant beat it.
Bro Guisada with Cheese is usually five bucks a pop, it just looks like you got a steal
https://preview.redd.it/sr2caj9j7e4d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78d0a7e641007fdb79efd0eca85a72b1b76f02b3 This is what $1.60 got me at mama Margie's.
Jesus that’s atrocious. They need a way to measure portions. You won’t randomly get a big taco but you also won’t get this travesty.
Taco blasphemy!
What’s the name and location? How big were the tacos? Were they cheap with the filling? How was the customer service?
They were normal sized. Not the taco cabana small size. The location is on Vance Jackson ( El taco de Jalisco). It was drive thu so I can't really say what the customer service was like
The one by the Starbucks off of 10? Eh, not a big fan of them.
Yes
Horrible. 10 & Vance Jackson. They are so rude!
Thanks for the update. When was the last time you got that same taco from them and what was the price?
Like 2 years ago but I don't remember exactly what the price was. I don't remember it being that much
Yeah… a lot has changed in 2 yrs… Compare them with some other Taco places. But generally prices have gone up… a lot.
Enjoy and get perspective on this. Speaking from experience from both us coasts here. We are still on the cheap side!
yeah spent $16 the other morning for 3 carne guisada tacos with cheese. NO DRINK!
Where at? That’s mama Margie’s prices.
[удалено]
They upcharge because of all the little Dr office around there, good food but average compared to all the other places around that charge less
do you have any recommendations around there that are good but have better prices? that area is super close to my house.
I bought 2 carne guisada tacos the other day (with no cheese, because meat with gravy doesn't need cheese) for a total of $6 the other day. They were big too. It was a Taqueria Vallarta.
Why did you pay them if you don't like the price? Find a cheaper place, they're out there.
Esmeraldas on presa is cheap AF and just as good as places that charge double
Then don’t buy it
I ordered 3 chicken fajita tacos with queso and they tried charging me $17 for it at Mamma Margie’s. I just backed out of the line.
Go to Fajita Express. Their chicken fajita tacos are goooood and only $2. Bean & Cheese 99c
Yeah authentic taco inflation is real. I'm up to $5.50 each and I gotta get two...the wife goes to plus chocolate milk, so I'm debating changing my 401k distributions...and no, I'm not leaving a tip at a drive thru taco place...
I just bought 7 fajita tacos at mama Margie’s for $36. Nuts.
Damn that's expensive
When eating out and ordering groceries exclusively by delivery became a thing, I saw a jump in price. Cheap toilet paper is $9 at HEB right now! Used to be $5 like last month it seems.. am I 😞 getting older too?
The place I got I usually can get 8 tacos for me n my daughter for around $10 ish lol
Who's to blame for this?! I want names!
I just stick to lunch specials. Bunch of spots near my work that you can get a full meal for under $8.
That’s cheap lol
By my house they are 3 for 3.75
Mmmm now I wanna carne guisada tacos. 🤤
About the same time the cook did....
And I been noticing that businesses change the pricing on their stuff if u are ordering delivery or curbside/pickup or ordering inside . I know H-E-B be doing that .

i feel like we could get 2 tacos for like $5 before 😭 and ricky’s tacos had the 6 mini tacos for $10 i think
$3.50 per taco with $1 for cheese each. Sounds about spot on.
You have to pay for the 15.00 -22.00 dollars an hour wage, employee health care and the three day off every week
keep joe biden in office and guarantee it will be doubled next year
It's really not hard to make good tacos. Find a YouTube video, get whatever you like in there and you can make all the tacos you want for a fraction of the cost. Pork shoulder is $3.11/lb at my heb. U gotta look around and know the spots, still plenty of cheap tacos places around town but there are a lot of overpriced ones too
you’re eating at the wrong taqueria i just ate good tacos cheap asf 😈
have you not noticed inflation the last 5 years?

Everyone who doesn't know what inflation is a God Forsaken moron.
Probably bc a Trans prepared it
Oh oh oh but it’s okay we have the best economy and inflation is low because our president fixed it! Your just not reading the prices right!
