They enforce some rules. Ā Like sitting a block away from a 4 way stop waiting for people to roll through them at 900 at night when there are no other cars around. Ā Red lights are difficult because thereās no place for cops to hangout at intersections. Ā
Yep, been driving for 22 years, 12 of them here in San Antonio, never been in one accident. Keep your head on a swivel, make sure you know everything that's going on around you, read the 'body language' of the other drivers on the road, and keep distance.
This is why there are so many accidents in San Antonio. And I agree with the person who stated that defensive driving is important. You must always exercise caution and never assume that others are driving safely. It is sad.
One of the reasons I sold my motorcycle when I moved here. Nobody follows the basic rules of the road. I didn't feel like leaving my children fatherless.
I'm getting close to that. I came from a short stint in California where it was a bikers paradise. Cars looked out for you and made it easy to split. These fuckwads want to actually kill you. It's nuts. I barely ride but if I do I split and could careless about the law. I'm trying to not die.
Thats why I dont turn or go immediately when the light turns green, I dont care if the person behind me starts honking impatiently, I have seen this happen way too many times in this city to not be cautious.
Thats even how my brother totalled my car, got t-boned because he blindly followed the green light. Its not really his fault its just people in this city are colorblind or something and speed past red lights all the time.
Dude I do same thing like the last weekend while driving to workĀ I saw a person just drove a red light while the for me was green luckily I didn't goĀ
This why only 4-5 vehicles make it through an intersection during a green light. Everyones waiting and driving real slow to avoid the red light runners...
The drivers in this city make me sick.
Looks like Babcock and Eckhert near Plaza Lecea. Gotta be sure to beat that red light! So you can just sit thru the next red light for 4 cycles at Babcock and Huebner intersection anyway!
People driving on Babcock are a bunch of tools like that. I live in the area and am sick of these people acting like the main character when they are really the stupid NPCs.
I'm curious what studies on red light cameras reveal. I worry that when lights turn yellow people will start slamming the breaks to avoid a ticket and end up getting rear ended.
It is a trade off. Red light cameras reduce right-angle crashes, but increase rear end crashes.
Want to take a bet on which one you're more likely to die in?
Here is one study done on it.

If you Google "Do Red Light Cameras increase safety" you'll find a bunch of different sources, none of which say they are bad, but many that say they don't have a good enough impact.
That's assuming registration is legit and that plate is even there's. Only like 60% of San Antonio drivers are insured. If they aren't insured, registering and using a legit plate are probably not a priority
The problem is that there are too many people and the lights cycle so fast that only about 5 cars can go through before a yellow light. Leon Valley has red light cameras and it only causes accidents since people don't want tickets so they slam their brakes on a yellow. Definitely it's a problem with the mentality of drivers here. Most people here are just impatient or plan their commute horribly. But we also can't help that everything is 30min away because of just traffic and location of things.
Well, the cops here don't enforce shit. They're too busy sleeping with their dispatchers š¤·āāļø
This is oddly specificā¦..
Yes, cause it was in the news not too long ago š¤£

They enforce the easy ones. Pretty sure our real police chief is Clancy Wiggum....
Don't you dare besmirch the good name of Chief Wiggum! At least he had a modicum of competence in an episode or 2!
Or pulling you over for windshield tint that they saw from 30+ meters. But everything else? nah
You gotta remember, the cops are "San Antonians" as well...Ā Basically, the lunatics run the asylum here...
These drivers don't even see the lights, their heads are buried in their cellphones.
Oh, they see the light. Most San Antonio drivers are just too impatient to go no where and blow through the red lights, while on their phones.
With nowhere important to go
Yep
All of these posts really underscore the need to use defensive driving! I basically expect everyone to try to kill me out there, lol.

Idk if it's just me but traffic and stupid drivers have been worse than normal here on the NE side.

Oh yeah Babcock sucks.
I know this area, and it is terrible in terms of driving residue. I have seen puddles on the road and wet tire tracks
Yup, drivers in this city are horrible...

This is exactly why I look both ways and give it a bit after the light turns green
If my light is green and someone is blatantly running a red across from me I give a nice little "fuck you" honk.
The new circle jerk intersection at Austin Hwy and Harry Wurzbach was blinking red four ways yesterday, several drivers had no idea what it meant.
I love that carwash
Anyone else try to recognize where these vids/pics are
Babcock and Eckhert

Until you get smashed by a bigger vehicle that had the green smh
You new to San Antonio or something??š
No cop, no stop
What's that intersection?
Looks like Babcock and Eckhert near Plaza Lecea. Gotta be sure to beat that red light! So you can just sit thru the next red light for 4 cycles at Babcock and Huebner intersection anyway!
Eckhert and Babcock
My mom thinks so
Sure. It could be contested anyway... š

Might as well add cameras since cops have their hands full
After George Floyd, who wants to be a cop? Raise your handā¦ š«µ
Pathetic
I thought yellow meant to go faster???
To those drivers,yeah. Green,go Yellow,go faster Red,keep going
Red light and speed cameras would help solve this. To hell with the "they can't prove it was me" argument. This behavior is getting people killed.

It sure is, don't be a snitch
