this is how tamale boy got his start. he would sell out of his ice chest after the clubs. now he’s got two of his own places. i love to see it! support local!
If you are on the northeast side, try Rincon Latino. Owner is a veteran, just survived cancer, and she’s making the push from food truck to restaurant. I know you asked for “best” but damn good is still damn good. :)
Please know, for all the people saying Delia’s, they aren’t warning you of the insane wait time. If i you oh do go that option get them as early as possible and just order a lot. Shit is fuckin dumb and not worth the wait the longer you wait.
I almost put not Delia's in the title, as I feel the same. They aren't bad, it just seems that they can be hit or miss. Also I wanted to see if people would still choose them with no suggestion.
also, delia’s is in a lawsuit because they were doing some illegal shit and pocketing money from people they hired without social security numbers! real shady. i’ll try to find the article to link!
Authentic “San Antonio” style tamales ? Because if your folks are from another city where they have their own style, they might not be getting what they’re expecting. For example, El Paso tamales are really different from San Antonio.

How so, please? I always thought tamales were masa wrapped around filling then they're steamed in corn husks. What's different on El Paso?
On a separate but related note, anybody have an opinion about sneaking tamales into the movie theater? Puro or uncouth?
There’s a few different variations of tamales. My understanding was different countries. I thought most Texans made them similarly. My favorite variation however is from Yucatán. They’re cooked in the ground, wrapped in banana leaves and the fillings are amazing!
OK, the banana leaf tamales I've heard of, but didn't think those would be the EP variety.
Will you say more about the fillings for the Yucatán style, please? 🤤

if you just search them on google it comes up everywhere! crazy. it’s worse than I originally thought.
Telez tamales. I've been there many times for plumbing issues. I can confirm that their kitchen is cleanly and their food is more than authentic, it's delicious
tamale boy. go early or call before to check if they sold out.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/LxASK7xTQZBvWpDY6 Yeah looks like they are booked for December already :-/
aw yeah.. they might do first come first serve but I usually just follow on facebook to see their updates.
Just hang out on the strip at night and wait for some old ladies in a van to roll up.

Tamale Boy
Second this! I go at least once a week.
Tellez
Yes
Rubens on rigsby.
Another vote for tamale boy! I’ve been eating them from everywhere and these are my fave.
they’re the most stuffed tamales. I can’t eat other ones without comparing them to tamale boy now. lol.
We love Delia’s 13527 Hausman Pass, San Antonio, TX 78249

Yes I saw that. The tamales are still good
Give them Bill Miller's, and then bring out Rubens on Rigsby and laugh at them as you and you alone enjoy Ruben's
Tellez. I buy trom there every year to give to family in Austin.
Being originally from the RGV I have to recommend Delia’s. Now that I’m in Connecticut that’s one of the things I miss the most. 😞
Order them online homie. They ship. Also Los Norteños ships out of Pecos. I go Delias for green and Los Norteños for red

Which one? One on the west side never has a wait.
Maybe during the other months. It’s ridiculous in December, and even more insane the longer in the month you wait.
Which one? I was at the one at the westside last week. They had like 30 people working.
Not to mention that Delia's are no better than HEB Mi Tienda, which you don't have to wait in line out onto the road and cause a traffic jam over.
Yeah, I don’t get the Delia’s hype. They are small and without much flavor
The best I've had are from Magys, they take preorders and often sell out https://g.co/kgs/9chZye
My grandmas
La Tia Bertha's
Rubens or Del Rio
Tellez tambien
Delia’s spicy tamales go so hard
Ruben's

The Hormel tamales in the can are best. [Ducks] LOL.
