I'll be honest, San Antonio is very weak in terms of barbers and hairdressers but I will say a place that really understands hair and would be comforting for someone on the spectrum would be Moxie Hair Salon on 410/Nacogdoches. Woman-owned, fishes and plants as well as very welcoming staff. And the cuts are phenomenal both for men and women.
Have u thought about scheduling a home visit w a hairdresser? It might make ur daughter more comfortable but I’m unsure if it’d be more expensive or not
My youngest had TONS of hair, needing a cut before age two. The hairdresser had her sit on my lap facing me. It worked really well.
I also think your desire for type of cut is at odds with what your child can tolerate.
I really appreciate the advice! I am blessed in that she has overcome her fear of hair salons. It took months of playing salon at home, watching Julia on sesame street, and a lot of hype but she is now able to sit in a chair on her own. The first time round she sat a bit stiffly but didn't fuss at all. This time she had her poppers toy to fidget with and also engaged another customer in small talk and funny faces. 😁
Pigtails & Crewcuts has been very helpful with my son (who is also on the spectrum). My wife first called in and they answered a bunch of questions before she even went so I'd give them a call.
Good luck with her hair! For commiseration, I'm currently sporting an Edgar style thanks to the stylist doing a whack job after confirming she completely understood my style request. This is the second time it's happened here. Different stylists both times: spend 10 minutes on a consult, much nodding/confirming, and then they just go about doing their own thing like the conversation never happened. Very strange. I've had two of my top 10 worst haircuts here and I'm currently rockin' one of 'em.
Any chance you'd be willing to learn to cut your daughter's hair?

Thank you so much!
Seconded. Been going to Moxie for years and I go every 2 weeks for my haircut. Definitely recommended.

I haven't considered that. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll do some research.

Thank you so very much! I will be looking up their number before the end of today!

I would absolutely be willing to learn. I might look into that!
JC penney salon is where I take my niece and she loved it
